However, in today's society, it is easy to get caught up in the cycle of over-consumption. We are bombarded with messages that tell us we need the latest gadgets, the newest clothes, and the trendiest toys to live happy and fulfilled lives. But what if I told you that the power of creation is more fulfilling than all of that? When we create something, we tap

into our divine gifts, abilities and talents.

We use our hands and our minds to bring something new into the world. This act of creation is incredibly empowering.

Whether it's cooking a new recipe, painting a picture, or building a piece of furniture, creating something helps us to develop a sense of accomplishment and pride (the good kind.) The power of creation is a force to be reckoned with. Do you believe me?

Creation vs Consumption We live in a technological world that is designed for the specific act of consumption.

To consume is to take action. To bring something in, use it and seek for more. When we are in a state of consumption it is very easy to get stuck in a consumption cycle as our brain repeatedly receives little hits of dopamine and seeks for more. If we consume without noticing our thoughts, we can easily over-consume, buffer over our true emotions and easily slip into addictions. Our self-esteem takes a hit and we seek larger doses of dopamine to counter the defeat. We continue to consume in our search for dopamine. Addictions take hold without us really knowing it until we are far beyond our ‘safe,’ more manageable, level of consumption. While our physical world has been designed to drive consumption, deep within each of us is the divine desire to create. That desire serves a purpose. We need to create. We need to experience the joy that comes with creation. We grow, we develop and we experience fulfillment as we create. We experience expansion and progression. And so does society. This is the exact opposite of what we experience when we consume. If we are to increase the use of our creative power and decrease our rate of consumption, we must turn to the narrative we choose when we see the result of someone else’s creation. You know, the kinds of creation that are blasted all over social media. Do a little experiment the next time you scroll and see if one of these models comes into play.

Thief of Joy One of the biggest roadblocks on our journey to developing our light is the trap of comparison. When we compare ourselves to others, we often feel inadequate, discouraged, and treat ourselves as if we are in a lesser position. This mindset is reinforced by confirmation bias, which leads us to believe that others are better, perpetuating selfdeprecation. This podcast episode emphasizes the importance of watching our thoughts and narratives, as they can either bring us misery or pave the way for joy and confidence.

What is Success?

Success is a word that is often thrown around as if it were a tangible object or a destination that we can all arrive at if we just work hard enough. But what is success really? Is it the accumulation of wealth, fame, or power? Or is it something more? I believe that success is not found in the result line of the CTFAR model but rather the feeling line as we choose specific narratives about our lives, our choices and our relationships. The story we tell ourselves about our lives will determine whether or not we feel successful. This is why two people can experience the same circumstance and come away with completely different feelings of success or failure. The stories we choose to believe about ourselves and our lives can either empower us or hold us back. If we choose to see ourselves as victims of circumstance, we will never feel successful no matter what we achieve. On the other hand, if we choose to see ourselves as the creators of our own lives, we will feel successful no matter what obstacles we face. Success is also about the relationships we build. It’s not just about what we achieve, but who we become in the process. If we prioritize our relationships and treat others with kindness and respect, we can feel successful regardless of our material possessions.

Success is not a destination but a journey that we choose to embark on. It’s the stories we choose to believe about ourselves, our relationships, and our lives. I encourage you to explore empowering stories that help you feel successful no matter what circumstances you face. Remember, success is not about what you achieve, but who you become in the process.

Brooke Romney WRITER . SPEAKER . EDUCATOR

GROWTH Brooke Romney, a renowned writer, speaker, educator, and connector, is celebrated for her distinctive approach to motherhood and the online community she has built through her writing. But it didn’t happen over night and it wasn’t handed to her. Shortly after moving to a new city, Brooke wished for the same resources many of her friends back at home had access to when it came to exploring her new city. She wanted to know the in’s and out’s of her community. She wanted to know where kids ate for free, how to find the fun activities and events but there wasn’t a platform for mothers to easily find the information. As a result, she dusted off her writing skills and jumped into the online world sharing all the info through her new blog Mom Explores Michigan.

CONFIDENCE Brooke started writing things that felt safe, like which park to take your kids to or which restaurant to eat at. With time, Brooke felt the pull to share things on a more personal level. Writing things from the heart came naturally, but the fear of rejection almost kept her from publishing them.

Brooke found the courage and her first heartfelt piece went live on her blog. As a result, the Deseret News reprinted the article and it has now been read over a million times. This opened the door to both positive and negative feedback. Brooke has learned to process the feedback along the way and has now published several books. Her book, I Like Me Anyway, is available on Amazon. But that’s not where this story ends...

POSITIVE INTENT Brooke continues to write and has now authored three additional books in her series Modern Manners. The first two books focused on modern manners for teenagers and her most recent book focuses on modern manners for kids. These are valuable resources for families seeking to teach important values that seem to be lost in today’s society. Publishing continues to bring feedback and Brooke has adopted an attitude of assuming positive intent to prevent herself from getting lost in a sea of negativity and divisiveness. Brooke has learned the narrative that propels her forward while also understanding the thoughts and ideas of others.

THE BALANCE Brooke is like any other working mom as she seeks to find the balance at the intersection of home and work life. She has learned what works and doesn’t work. She knows the areas where she feels comfortable asking for help and she knows the areas where she wants to be the one to show up.

Connection continues to be the driving force. As a result, Brooke and her team are expanding the Modern Manners reach as they develop curriculum to be used in schools. Complete with videos, posters and other resources, the Modern Manners curriculum will lift communities. All of this is the result of Brooke trusting her heart, creating the space, and sharing her light.

Allow Discomfort As human beings, we are naturally inclined to avoid discomfort. It is our body's way of protecting us from harm.

However, when it comes to the creative process, discomfort can actually be a good thing. In fact, allowing for discomfort during the creation process can lead to incredible growth and breakthroughs. Many of us have experienced the frustration of hitting a creative block. We sit down to write, paint, or create, and nothing comes out. We feel stuck and helpless. It's in these moments that discomfort can be a powerful tool.

Instead of giving up or forcing ourselves to create something perfect, we can lean into the discomfort and the thoughts behind it. By doing this, we often uncover deeper thoughts.

Thoughts that need to be challenged and looked at. When we challenge these thoughts, we get to decide if they have a place in our lives and if they are useful for helping us move forward. The process lifts emotional burdens and creates space for creativity. We will make mistakes along the way, but each mistake is an opportunity to learn and improve. There is growth and expansion as you allow discomfort.

Dear Mothers As a mother, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind of parenting and forget about your own passions and talents.

You may feel like you don't have the time or energy to pursue your interests, but I'm here to tell you that it's more important than ever to develop your talents and share your light with the world. Developing your talents is a form of self-care.

When you make time for yourself and do something that you enjoy, you fill your own cup and reduce stress levels. This has a massive impact on your overall well-being, and in turn, the well-being of your family. Sharing your talents with others is a way to inspire and uplift those around you. As a mother, you have a unique perspective and set of experiences that can be valuable to others. Whether it's through writing, music, art, or another creative outlet, your talents have the potential to touch the lives of many. Developing your talents will serve as a powerful example to your children. By pursuing your passions and showing your children what’s possible you will encourage them to do the same. In her words...

As a mother of three daughters, a devoted pilot's wife, designer, wanderer, and dreamer, I've always had a passion for creating and exploring new things. For the last 13 years I’ve worked for Adobe as an interface and experience designer. Along the way we’ve had 3 girls to keep us busy and lots of travel adventures around the world.

One of our favorite trips was moving into an Airstream and traveling from Washington state to Tampa, Florida where we lived for a year before making our way back out West where we now live in Lehi, Utah. I’m excited to share this chapter with you.

SELF Lindsay has always loved art and creating. While attending college she took every art class possible. Everything from printmaking, bookmaking portrait drawing, ceramics to graphic design, and web design. She is a woman after my own creative heart. The opportunity to develop herself in these areas while growing up in a family of self-proclaimed ‘computer nerds’ has led to some pretty interesting opportunities. At the intersection of Lindsay’s creative capabilities and her family’s interest in computers, is Lindsay’s graphic design work at Adobe. The creative pursuits, graphic design talents, and previous ventures in jewelry making, recently melded together for Lindsay and her new jewelry line, Look, is now available.

FAMILY With the birth of Look, Lindsay has taken into account the full user experience as her clients view, order, receive and enjoy their new jewelry.

With her knowledge of sequential design, Lindsay has paid attention to the details and her daughters have been watching. As Lindsay develops her creative talents and shares them, her daughters have also caught the creativity bug. As part of a recent school project, Lindsay’s daughter was able to design, create and earn classroom dollars with her own jewelry.

Thinking she might only sell a couple pairs of earrings, they were blown away when her daughter sold 50 pairs! It gives me goosebumps thinking how the experience strengthened her daughter’s confidence in her own creative abilities. I imagine it was a boost to Lindsay as well.

COMMUNITY Oftentimes, when I interview mothers about their creative pursuits and how they are expanding them into businesses, we talk about finding the balance of home and work life. I always love to listen for the ways they invite other women into their lives to help support their work. Whether it’s helping within the home or within the business, it’s fun to see how it all plays out and how the women find exactly who they need. Lindsay shares a beautiful example of how she and her husband worked together to find the help they needed and then how they were able to pay that forward.
