How To Gain A Better Perspective On Your Questions of Faith When it comes to your faith, finding yourself in a place of doubt can be scary. Often when people have doubts, we hear it called a “faith crisis.” They think, “Oh my gosh, how could I be questioning that?”

But it’s not necessarily a crisis to have questions; it’s a natural part of life.

If you’re starting to doubt and not sure what to do, start by neutralizing the situation.

Labeling an experience as a “faith crisis” triggers panic, which makes it difficult to think clearly and act wisely.

Let’s calm down from “faith crisis.”

Our thoughts shape our actions, so we’re more likely to act productively with thoughts like: “I'm in learning mode,” “I'm in discovery mode,” or “I’m on a faith journey.”

Example 1 Circumstance: I have a question about my faith.

Thought: “I’m having a faith crisis.”

Feeling: Panic Action: Frantically consume information. Stop participating in faith-building activities.

Result: Remain doubtful and confused.

Example 2 The term faith journey has a more long-term connotation (unlike crisis which feels like, “I’ve got to solve this NOW!”).

A journey mentality leaves us open to curiosity and seeking answers.

You can slow down and take thoughtful steps forward. You can push pause and open yourself to answers. You can take a step back and try a different perspective.

The CTFAR Model helps us recognize how our thoughts shape our feelings,

Circumstance: I have a question about my faith.

Thought: “I’m on a faith journey.”

Feeling: Calm Action: Intentionally look for reliable sources of information. Continue faith-promoting activities.

Result: Gradually find clarity and answers.

By neutralizing the situation from faith crisis to faith journey, you generate less panic in your life. You create space for curiosity, acceptance, and love.

3 Underestimated Strategies for Your Search for Truth We live in an age of information. There are massive amounts of content and opinions available to us. When facing questions of faith, it’s important to be responsible in choosing legitimate sources and using them in ways that serve us well.

1. Consider Your Sources We naturally search for evidence to validate our thoughts. Whatever our focus, we tend to look for evidence that we are 100% correct. That means when we start to doubt our faith, our brain often looks for all the ways to support that doubt. The problem is, if we only look to the contrary, it validates rather than challenges us to find answers.

If you want to hold on to your faith, make sure to balance the information you turn to. If you’re going to welcome information into your life that opposes your faith, give at least 50% to faithpromoting sources. For example, if you listen to podcasts that provide a contrary view, give equal airtime to podcasts that share a positive view.

2. Keep an Open Mind If you’re challenging your beliefs, consider whether those beliefs may still be true despite conflicting information. Push pause and be open to how your doubts may be incorrect. (Maybe you’ve been wrong about this, but maybe you’ve been right.) Ask yourself if you’re still open to evidence for both sides — especially the side of faith.

If a person’s opinions are influencing you, consider looking into that person’s background. How has their life story influenced their message and opinions?

Also, take a look at the intent behind the source. Is it to persuade you to believe or disbelieve? Is it a worthy source to base your testimony on?

3. Check your thoughts & emotions This may be the most important strategy. At the root of it all, truth is light. Remember as we take in information, we have an emotional experience based on our thoughts.

Take note of which thoughts bring more light and joy into your life.

Ask yourself questions like: “Does this thought drive me to be more or less of the person I want to be?”

“Does it draw me closer or further away from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ?”

“Does it feel like it is a thought Heavenly Father wants me to think or one from the adversary?”* You’re not alone in your search for truth. The Spirit, or the Holy Ghost, is one of Heavenly Father’s greatest gifts and helps us discern truth.

These questions can help you keep a clearer perspective as you sort through information available to you.

How to Develop Your Faith through Creation As moms, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind of parenting and put our interests on the back burner. You may feel like you don't have the time or energy to pursue your own passions. But while sometimes it’s all we can do to simply survive, we are made for so much more.

Dive into something that lights a spark in you — something that brings excitement to your day! It’s more than just self-care; it's a form of spiritual development too.

That’s because Heavenly Father is a Creator — and you connect with Him as you tap into your gifts, talents, and uplifting interests.

What does an act of creation look like for you? An act of creation can be anything from a beautifully organized closet to an international organization.

It might be a hobby, a business, or a volunteer program. Your unique light and talents mean your creation will look different from everyone else’s.

Your creative pursuit should be for YOU — one not directly tied to being a mom. When you nurture your creativity, you grow as an individual. That growth can then translate to your motherhood journey.

Another important part of creativity is problem-solving. Our brains love a challenge. If we don’t use our energy to tackle creative problems, we tend to see our kids or husbands as the source of problems to solve. On the other hand, when you use critical thinking skills for a creative outlet, you can step back and look at your family with a clearer perspective.

Also, when you make time to do something you enjoy, you fill up your cup and reduce stress. This means showing up as a happier and more fulfilled mom.

The Door to Faith-Building Creativity isn't all smooth sailing. You'll hit roadblocks, and that's where your faith kicks in. You can pray, ask questions, and seek inspiration from Heavenly Father along your creative journey. You can receive guidance on what to do, how to do it, and ways to improve.

When we create something, we tap into our divine gifts, abilities, and talents. We use our hands and our minds to bring something new into the world. Whether it's a delicious new recipe, a piece of useful technology, or a service project, creation gives us a sense of empowerment and accomplishment.

As you approach your creative outlet with faith, you’ll be amazed at how things come together. Lessons, resources, and people will come out of the woodwork to support your efforts. Watch your faith grow as you bring goodness into the world.

You are capable of beautiful creation.

Keep in mind that your creative outlet is completely customizable to you. If you’re not sure what project is right for you, that’s ok! Even if you don’t consider yourself a creative person, everyone has some capacity to create in some form.

Reflect on your natural interests and abilities, and don’t be afraid to explore and redirect as you go. Start small and work your way up. Join a local art class, start a blog, or simply experiment with a new recipe.

You’re not limited to a single creative outlet either. Allow yourself to be flexible and try a variety of interests along your creative journey.

Whatever it is, remember that the world needs your unique perspective and talents. You will develop faith as you see God work through you.

Raising Confident Mothers has highlighted these and many other inspiring women. Each has a unique story of developing faith through creativity. Here are just a few examples of how moms are making a positive difference with a focus on faith.

Brooke has published several books and resources for parents to build healthy relationships with their kids.

She teaches how to raise children and teens to be kind, confident, and wellmannered. Her book, I Like Me Anyway, reassures women of their worth and inspires them to connect with Christ.

Ali Essi g

rowne Lindsay B Lindsay is an interface and experience designer with Adobe. She’s recently started exploring physical art as well.

Lindsay sells small-batch handmade wood and clay jewelry. Her experience with design helps her create a beautiful customer experience.

When Ali’s husband suffered a stroke at age 37, Ali took it upon herself to research approaches to healthy eating. She’s become an expert on plant-based eating. With divine inspiration, she has developed nutritional programs to help families eat well and live healthier.

Where AI Meets Faith Software development wasn’t something Kinzie dreamed of going into as an undergrad. She studied sociology and then worked for years in media. But when she started learning about information systems, her gut told her to apply to grad school.

Kinzie entered a highly technical world in a male-dominated program. Her faith and support system kept her reassured that she was on the right track.

In this interview, Kinzie shares how a lens of faith has built her trust in God. She says that even though it may not come together all at once, you’ll be amazed at what can happen when you take that first step.

Kinzie and her grad school partner developed PodFlow, a helpful AI writing tool for podcast creators.

How to Tap into the Power of Reverence Reverence

by Lacey Jones

As you pursue your creative passions, you will find problems to solve.

These are opportunities to deepen your relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Currently, my creative process involves 40+ hours a week solving massive problems for a multimillion-dollar company. Having this in my life allows me to answer large questions and seek divine help.

Through this experience, I’ve learned not to wait for Heavenly Father to talk to me, but to put myself closer to Him. I’ve had more soul-searching prayers. Not just surface-level ones — the kind where I'm praying from my soul instead of just my brain. I’ve realized that challenging myself to create opens a channel to develop a closer relationship with my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Part of this is putting myself in a reverent atmosphere. In my case, it’s the temple. It’s a quiet place where I can schedule time to walk away from the noise of the world and talk with Heavenly Father. For others, this could be another type of peaceful place to be still and reflect.

On one of my drives to the temple, the lyrics of a primary children’s song came to mind:

Reverence is more than just quietly sitting: It’s thinking of Father above, A feeling I get when I think of his blessings.

I’m reverent, for reverence is love.

When I’m rev’rent, it shows in my words and my deeds.

The pathway to follow is clear.

And when I am reverent, I know in my heart Heav’nly Father and Jesus are near.*

This song triggered a lightbulb moment. I realized how perfectly these words fit into the CTFAR coaching model: Circumstance > Thought > Feeling > Action > Result.

The circumstance was being in a sacred place. My thoughts involved thinking of Father above. The feelings that followed were love and reverence. These feelings inspired me to take reverent action, like sitting quietly, pondering, and reading the scriptures. The result? I knew in my heart that Heavenly Father and Jesus were near.

They are near because I put myself near to them by thinking of them and creating that reverence and love.

So instead of asking, “Why aren’t they near me?” let’s put ourselves in a state of reverence. Then we are open to receiving answers and inspiration to buoy us up on our journeys.

But Stephanie Anderson—a mom and middle school teacher—tells us why it's so important.

In this episode, Stephanie opens up about how while social media can be a fun break, it can also be used to escape uncomfortable emotions. In those moments, Stephanie asks herself her true reason for scrolling. If it’s to escape a difficult emotion, she instead takes a moment to observe her thoughts.

In these moments Stephanie says we can discover important lessons about ourselves.

By observing her thoughts without judgment, she realized that she was terrible at asking for help. That realization would help her make changes and improve her entire motherhood journey.

So instead of numbing your emotions, try observing your thoughts without judgment.

You can discover ways to lighten and improve your life. This in turn will impact how you interact with your family and others around you.
