Dear Brothers, I trust this message finds you in good health and high spirits As we continue advancing our fraternal mission, I want to share a brief update on the financial standing of the Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. This update highlights key outcomes from the recent fraternal year-end and outlines our upcoming financial priorities, aimed at fostering growth and sustaining the legacy of our Flagship Province.

This represents an 8% overall increase compared to the previous fraternal year, driven by prudent financial management, adherence to budget guidelines, and unrealized market gains.

Revenue and Expenses:

Revenue: During the 2023-2024 fraternal year, we generated $657,317 in total revenue, derived from membership dues, leadership workshops and conferences, MTA, investment income, and our annual Province Council. This reflects a 2% increase compared to the previous year.

Expenses: During the 2023-2024 fraternal year, our total expenses amounted to $550,966, reflecting a 7% increase compared to the previous year. These expenses encompassed office and general administrative costs, committee and appointee activities, programs and initiatives, Province Council planning, as well as province events and travel.

Exchequer Highlights

Automated Expense Process: In May 2024, we introduced a new payment request process designed to streamline operations and ensure the prompt and efficient management of financial transactions. This improvement has greatly enhanced both efficiency and accountability in our financial procedures.

Zelle: As part of our automated expense process, we introduced Zelle as a new payment method, enabling fast and secure peer-to-peer money transfers. Traditional mail payments are now optional and available only upon request.

Monthly Financials: During each regularly scheduled board meeting, the Board of Directors receives financial reports to provide a clear understanding of the Province's financial health and stability. These reports are accessible in the Document Library on the Eastern Province dashboard under KOE → Board Reports.

Chart of Accounts Format: We revised our chart of accounts to consolidate and group similar accounts, enabling us to better evaluate the effectiveness of various areas within the Province.

Upcoming Priorities

Budget Planning Fraternal Year 25-26: As we approach the upcoming Province Council, the planning and preparation of the annual budget for the next fraternal year is well underway. We look forward to presenting this information at the Province Council.

Investing: In addition to being responsible stewards of the funds entrusted to the province, we are exploring safe and secure investment options that provide better returns compared to noninterest-bearing checking accounts.

501c(3) Foundation: Similar to our local chapters, the province is currently registered as a 501(c) (7) organization, which is the designation for social clubs. We are exploring the possibility of establishing a 501(c)(3) status to take advantage of the tax benefits it offers.

Your continued support is vital to the success of our Province. Whether through active participation, donations to EP Kares, or simply sharing your valuable feedback, every contribution plays a key role in strengthening our financial foundation.

--- Sunday, January 5, 2025

The Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated celebrated 114 years of honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor on January 3-4, 2025, at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles Conference Center in Chantilly, Virginia. The Founders’ Day Program, an official program of the Eastern Province, was co-hosted by the Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter and the Gainesville-Manassas (VA) Alumni Chapter, respectively, and was a resounding success. With an impressive turnout of past and current grand chapter officers, national awardees, national committee chairman, province awardees and other distinguished fraternity dignitaries, over 450 brothers from across the province are present to celebrate our fraternity's rich heritage and legacy within our beloved Eastern province.

Friday, January 3, 2025, commenced with check-in and a welcoming Province Hospitality Suite. Several other chapters hosted convivial hospitality suites throughout the weekend, as well The province would like to send a hearty thank you to the following chapters who graciously volunteered to host hospitality suites during the celebration weekend: Salisbury (MD) Alumni Chapter, Gaithersburg-Rockville (MD) Alumni Chapter, Dulles-Leesburg (VA) Alumni Chapter, Hyattsville-Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter, Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter, and Gainesville-Manassas (VA) Alumni Chapter. The presence and location of the hospitality suites allowed brothers who were able to make it to town the night before an opportunity to intermingle and fellowship before the formal program began

On Saturday, January 4, 2025, the vendors set up at 8:00 am and the various hospitality suites opened at 1:00 pm. The Eastern Province Polemarch also hosted a closed banquet walk-through with the committee at 1:00 pm to ensure that all was in order for the banquet Local brothers began to check in and/or register throughout the afternoon, and the cocktail reception began at 5:00 pm. Processional staging for fraternity dignitaries, dictated by the Protocol & Etiquette Manual, to process into the closed banquet began at 5:00 pm sharp.

After the procession, Brother Eric Holmes presented Brother Roderick Hall of the Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter as the toastmaster for the evening The Reverand Dr Sedric R Roberts,

Province Chaplain, delivered an invigorating invocation and blessed the food. After the roll call of the chapters, Carl Brown of the Ft. Gregg-Adams (VA) Alumni Chapter, recognized the Senior and 50-Year Brothers. Brother Hall recognized the national awardees in the room. Three Guy L. Grant awardees and one Elder Watson Diggs awardee were present.

Eric Brown, Polemarch of the Gainesville-Manassas (VA) Alumni Chapter, provided welcoming remarks, and Dexter Burnam, Polemarch of Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter, provided the statement of the occasion. Province Historian Donald Malcolm Smith delivered a remarkable historical perspective of the Eastern Province. Dinner was served promptly after the musical interlude.

Brother Jeremy Coleman, a Gainesville-Manassas (VA) Alumni Chapter member, introduced the keynote speaker immediately following dinner. Our esteemed Executive Director of Organization Effectiveness and 2-time Pillar of the Province, Joseph L. Wiggins, delivered the keynote address. Brother Wiggins captivated the audience, emphasizing the importance of fraternity involvement and the vital role that our shared history plays in shaping our future.

Wiggins challenged and inspired the province’s packed audience with this timely reminder:

“As you ponder your contribution to our fine fraternal organization, we sincerely hope that you will join us in prayer that all Kappas may pause for a moment to meditate. Each one of us is only a member, but we are a member. We cannot do everything, but we can do something. What we can do, we ought to do, and what we ought to do, we should do by the Master Kappa’s compassionate grace and mercy (Wiggins, J.L., 2025).”

His stirring words resonated through the room as he concluded his impactful message:

“Let it never be forgotten that on the day that the brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Psi is no longer able or no longer willing to meet the dynamic needs of its members, especially its collegiate brothers, and those who look to us for support, then on that day we shall lose the name of brotherhood. On that day, the final sentence shall be written in the final chapter of a once illustrious organization As we wind our clocks and rise with a new day, ever cognizant of the work that must be done in preparation for the fraternity’s next milestone, each of us must accept the challenge of trying valiantly and daring greatly, so that the charge given us by our founders will be carried out fully to their everlasting glory and to the glory of all who love our noble clan and who believe in the intrinsic worth of Phi Nu Pi (Wiggins, J.L., 2025).”

Senior Province Vice Polemarch Robinson, joined by Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Jenkins and Province Polemarch Mattox, presented Keynote Speaker Wiggins with a plaque of appreciation for is inspiring and needed address to the Eastern Province at such a pivotal time of need.

Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Jenkins addressed the brothers and asked for the province’s support as he seeks re-election to the Office of Senior Province Vice Polemarch. He also encouraged brothers to attend the 87th and 88th Grand Chapter Meetings. Province Polemarch

Mattox thanked the host chapters, the planning committee, and the Senior Grand Vice Polemarch for their engagement He then re-capped the needs of our brothers in the law field as we move forward for positive continuous change and led the brothers into the oath of rededication. The hospitality suites reopened immediately following the closed banquet, and the host chapters’ after-party began at 10:00 pm in the Fairfax Room of the host hotel.

In conclusion, the brothers enjoyed a great weekend. All registered brothers received a souvenir gift, which included a centennial logo lapel pin with a matching pair of cufflinks. The weekend's highlight was the heartfelt closed banquet, where brothers enjoyed a delectable meal, which provided an opportunity for fellowship. The achievements of the founders were celebrated that weekend, reinforcing the spirit of unity and community that the Founders’ Day Program brought to the province.

Feedback from brothers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the opportunity to connect, fellowship, and celebrate our collective heritage The success of this year’s event reaffirms our commitment to honoring our past while looking forward to a collaborative future of Kappa The Eastern Province Polemarch, Host Chapters, and Founders’ Day Committee would like to thank everyone who made the 2025 Founders’ Day Program possible. Your support is invaluable, and we look forward to building on this event in the years to come.

Carrying the Torch Forward

As I move forward in my personal journey entering the IT field and using the problemsolving skills I’ve developed both in and out of the classroom I carry with me the lessons learned as Polemarch of Eta Xi. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of what it means to lead with integrity, to serve without expectation, and to harness the power of brotherhood for the greater good. I will carry these values into my professional endeavors, future community involvement, and personal relationships. The Eta Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi has shown me that our brotherhood is more than historical milestones, monuments, and financial contributions It is a living entity that evolves as each new brother joins, contributes, and then passes the torch to those who follow. The impact of our first 50 years will echo into the next half-century, as we continue to invest in one another, in our communities, and in the world around us

As you read these words, I hope you feel the same sense of pride and purpose that defines our bond Together, we will continue to learn, achieve, and serve, ensuring that the legacy of Eta Xi at VCU remains a shining example of what can be accomplished when vision is matched by effort and guided by unwavering principles

Movement with the Mind

Columbia (MD) Alumni

The Columbia (MD) Alumni Chapter (CMD) started off the 2024-25 Kappa League year deep in thought with an exciting and interactive presentation on brain waves that can manipulate drones! The Guide Right Foundation has been pushing Kappa League’s initiative forward since 1922, and to this day, it’s been focusing on the betterment of the community for the youth CMD ensures that it keeps up to par with today's generation and inspires them to be trained for leadership, instilling core values to take with them into the future.

Brother Dr Chris Crawford (Fall 2006, Eta Chi), the inventor of this fantastic technology and key presenter, said, “I’ve been working in robotics since my undergraduate studies started in 2009. I had a teacher who pulled me out of class and asked if I wanted to do research. I became more interested in it as I attended grad school at the University of Florida” Dr Crawford explained that he does mentorship in his home of Alabama with local high schools, but this was his first time working with the Kappa League Telling us that “the purpose of this lesson is to get them engaged

with technology, and perhaps going into a STEM career.”

Brothers Arinze Ifekauche (Fall 2006, Eta Chi) and Xavier Fikes (Fall 2009, Eta Chi) are the Guide Right/Kappa League Program's respective chair and co-chair. These brothers have the insight to take the mentoring program to new heights this year with a session focused on AI technology and robotics. “The Purpose of this session is career advancement Show what a Black scientist and a former Kappa League student look like and how they’re changing the world. I was surprised when asked, “Who’s coded before?” and all the kids raised their hands.”, stated Ifekauche.

He continued, “ Kids are much further ahead and what it might spark Even if it’s not in this field My favorite thing about technology and AI is how it democratizes power and wealth. Free coding labs, advanced technology, and more These tools used to be very few and exclusive, but now it can be instilled, and kids can work with the same tools If we can be a part of that with Kappa League and push the ball forward, that’s where we’ve done our jobs”

The head of the Morgan State University Human Experience Lab, Dr Najah Mack, a Claflin University and Morgan State University graduate, joined the presentation and further explained what the team is and what they’re doing with the students. “Our focus is on designing, developing, and evaluating user interfaces Devices we’re using today are using brain waves to play the game. Computer Interface.” Dr. Naja Mack has been working with Baltimore Inner City Schools (BCI) since 2014, as well as Baltimore County schools, and works with a nonprofit organization called Black Success Oriented Networks (Black Sons) 38

The mentors at this session were elated to show the next-generation technology through brainwaves, and the mentees were excited about it, such as Jayden, a 16-year-old student in CMD Alumni’s Kappa League program. “My favorite thing about today’s lesson is learning about drones and how you can control them with your brain waves while focusing. I like how you can use your head and control like a remote. I would suggest other kids to play this.” When young Jayden is asked about his college plans, he says he’s probably majoring in aviation or mechanical engineering.

Eta Xi Chapter Celebrates Monument Dedication on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University

Eta Xi

As I sit down to reflect on the past year, my heart is filled with gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose I am humbled to serve as the Polemarch of the Virginia Commonwealth Univerisity Chapter, the Eta Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi a role that allows me to lead, learn, mentor, and grow. Like many of you, I was drawn to Kappa Alpha Psi because of its timeless values and traditions. These values have helped shape my own aspirations as I prepare to graduate in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. I hope to leverage my academic foundation paired with real-world experience as an intern with the Department of Defense and as a technician at VCU FixIT to forge a path in IT, focusing on fields like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, project/product management, and software development.

Reflecting on 50 Years of Excellence This year, our Eta Xi Chapter reached a remarkable milestone its 50th anniversary In 1974, the “Nine Midnight Wanderers” founded a chapter at a predominantly white institution during an era of social transition They worked tirelessly

after class and jobs to build something greater than themselves. In doing so, they established a legacy that has guided generations of brothers through academic pursuits, community service, and the relentless pursuit of achievement Standing on their shoulders, we continue to honor their sacrifice, courage, and vision.

A Monument to Our Legacy To commemorate this half-century of impact, we unveiled a permanent monument at Shafer Court designed by our very own Brother Andre Thompson (VCU ‘86). The monument is a tribute to the founders’ perseverance and the bonds of brotherhood that have flourished here. For me, as Polemarch, this isn’t just a structure it’s a symbol of what we stand for: unity, service, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to uplifting others It memorializes our past and encourages current and future brothers to uphold the standards that make Kappa Alpha Psi a beacon of inspiration

Eta Xi Chapter Gives Back and Hosts C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference

Eta Xi

Investing in Our Future Through Philanthropy

As a chapter, the Virginia Commonwealth University chapter, the Eta Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and as individuals, we are

committed to contributing to the communities that shaped us. Earlier this year, we made an unprecedented $50,000 donation to support minority-focused programs on campus, including the Developing Men of Color (DMC), The Porter Foundation, and the Black Alumni Council. By investing in scholarships, mentorship programs, and diversity initiatives, we’re lighting the path for generations to come. This is the largest donation from any student organization at VCU, underscoring our collective resolve to make a tangible difference.

But our philanthropy doesn’t stop there

During the C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference, which we were proud to host at Eta Xi, over 300 brothers gathered to share best practices, network, and hone leadership skills At this event, we presented a $1,500 donation to Henrico Police Athletic League (PAL) to support at-risk youth. Moments like these remind me why I pledged Kappa Alpha Psi We don’t just speak of leadership; we put it into action, connecting our principles with meaningful deeds that enrich our communities

Leadership, Learning, and Uplift As an undergraduate leader approaching graduation, I’ve been privileged to see firsthand how the fraternity’s values manifest on campus. Through Guide Right and other mentorship programs, we invest time in cultivating future leaders Our study sessions, professional development workshops, and community outreach initiatives help young men and women recognize their potential It is incredibly rewarding to watch a younger brother excel academically because of chapter study groups or see a mentee become more confident after participating in an achievement workshop.

The C Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference we hosted epitomized our philosophy: that leadership, at its core, involves serving others and providing the tools and support needed for them to thrive. By sharing our experiences, honoring tradition, and encouraging creativity, we equip rising leaders with the confidence and competencies required to forge their own paths of achievement
