Brother Edward Lewis spent nearly 40 years in the television news profession as a photojournalist until his recent retirement in 2023. He spent 25 years at Fox News in Washington, DC, and just over 14 years at CSPAN Brother Lewis earned the trust and respect of many United States Presidents, from Ronald Reagan to the current President, Joseph Biden His professional responsibilities allowed Brother Lewis to travel with each President throughout the United States and the world, capturing decades of pictures and videos documenting crucial moments in Presidential history from the White House, across the country, and around the globe
Brother Lewis was dedicated to his profession and was known for being among the first on duty for breaking news.
For example, Brother Lewis recalls dropping everything when he was called to duty to cover the Osama Bin Laden situation A testament to Brother Lewis’ professionalism and work ethic is, in his own words, a favorite thing to say“this is the White House”
Brother Lewis was born and raised in Southeast Washington, DC He often spoke about being a teenager riding his bicycle by the White House and wondering if he would ever have a chance to work in the White House. Not only did Brother Lewis achieve that lofty goal, but he could observe the inner workings of the White House based on his occupation. He was able to cover meetings, photographing some of the most powerful people in the world People would give their lives to sit in his shoes to see and hear what he observed
When Brother Lewis retired in June of 2023, he was recognized by President Biden’s White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, and presented a gift during his last press briefing. This type of honor simply does not happen to ordinary people Most recently, Brother Lewis was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the prestigious White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) during their annual dinner on April 27, 2024. This lifetime achievement award was created in 2022 and named after two African American women, Alice Dunnigan and Ethel Payne, who were considered trailblazers during their work as part of the White House Press Corps. The Dunnigan-Payne Prize for Lifetime Achievement recognized their work as the first African American women of the White House Press Corps. Like Brother Lewis, these women were noted for their persistence, resilience, and uncompromising reporting. This award is only presented on special occasions, and the WHCA board of directors unanimously voted to honor Brother Lewis with this award for his service in
covering the White House during his vast and impressive career.
Brother Lewis is a 1985 initiate of the Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is a long-time member of the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is also a life member of the Grand Chapter and the Eastern Province of Kapp Alpha Psi, Inc. Brother Lewis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 1985 from Howard University At Xi Chapter, our motto is, “It is easy to be ordinary; it takes courage to excel, and we must excel.” We would like to commend Brother Lewis for an outstanding career and a job well done.

The Danville (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc donated the 6th edition of "The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi" history book to the Ruby B Archie Library in Danville, Virginia This donation is significant as Ruby B. On August 10, 2024, the Brother’s of the Mu Mu Chapter paid a visit to The White House, the current home of the 46 th President of the United States, Joseph R Biden, and the future residence of the first black female President of the United States, Kamala D. Harris. Each year, the Brother’s take a road trip across the Potomac River to visit one of many historical landmarks in our nation’s capital. Last year, they visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The White House, which is considered to be the most revered symbol of freedom and democracy, was built in 1800 using free labor of enslaved people, who cut the stone and timber, made the bricks, and assembled the roof, floors, and walls. For many of the Mu Mu Nupes, this was the first time they had been on The White House grounds or toured inside the building
According to Brother Justin Baines, “it seems unreal when you see The White House on TV Now that I’m actually here, in a place that our ancestors built, where President Obama and
other Presidents have lived, where many important events and landmark decisions were made, is powerful and something that every Brother should experience”

On July 21, 2024, over twenty members of the Mu Mu Chapter participated in their 14th Annual Plot Beautification event on the Fairfax, VA campus of George Mason University (GMU) As the first Black Greek lettered fraternity chartered on campus, the plotexemplifies the Brother’s commitment to ACHIEVEMENT, which has kept Mu Mu at the forefront of student organizations at GMU. During the celebration of its 25th anniversary on October 27, 2010, Mu Mu became the first student organization to establish a plot at GMU. Five years later, on October 27, 2015, the Chapter became the first Greek lettered student organization to bury a time capsule on campus, which currently rests underneath the plot and will be exhumed during the celebration of its first 50th chartering day ceremony on October 27, 2035. Every summer, Brothers gather at the plot to clean and beautify the area as an initial event to kick-off the start of the school year. The event fosters a spirit of unity and fellowship, which has played a pivotal role in forging a Bond of brotherhood between younger and older Brothers alike within the Mu Mu Chapter At the conclusion of the event, Chapter Polemarch Harris Pilson stated, “this event is a tradition that instills a sense of pride in who we are and what we represent as a Chapter here at GMU”
1- Membership request needed from IHQ
In the past, IHQ has charged $50 to provide a list of non-financial brothers. The request fee has gone away Also moving forward, all requests must be made by the province reclamation chairman or your chapter's KOR. IHQ will not provide a list of sustaining or nonsustaining members to individual brothers moving forward.
2- Grand Chapter's Homecoming Reclamation Campaign:
Starting 10/1/2024 ending 11/30/2024 Grand Chapter is executing the "Homecoming" reclamation initiative.
Once a reclaimed brother pays his Grand Chapter dues and any applicable fees if needed His undergraduate chapter of initiation will receive $25. The brother only has to pay Grand Chapter dues (not chapter and province) in order for his undergraduate chapter to receive the $25 donation. This is the perfect opportunity for undergraduates to solicit non-sustaining brothers to pay GC dues and grow their exchequer. Please share this info with your chapter's undergraduate advisor
or any undergraduate chapters/members you might have relationships with. Also use it as a tool to encourage brothers to come "Back to the Bond"
3- Reduction in local (chapter) dues for reclaimed brothers in the 2024-25 fraternal year:
In celebration of the Eastern Province Centennial and to help reach our reclamation goal of 300 brothers..I am asking all reclamation chapter chairmen to petition your chapter to reduce local (chapter) dues to $100 for reclaimed brothers only for the 2024-2025 fraternal year. I've already received a few confirmations since Thursday's meeting.
I would like to have confirmation from all 34 chapters before 10/31. I would recommend that you not wait for the next chapter meeting and make the request to your Chapter Polemarch and BOD immediately.
4- Next Meeting is 7pm Thursday 10/24/2024.

The panelists shared their journeys, emphasizing the importance of resilience and the power of networking within the fraternity Their words resonated deeply, encouraging attendees to harness their potential, take advantage of resources, and continue to pave the way for future generations of Kappa.
The Kappa Relations panel was designed specifically for the Fraternity's undergraduate members and was aimed at strengthening the relationship between collegiate chapters and college/university administration. As such, the panelists included a member from each of the following groups: a full-time university faculty member, a full-time university staff member, a full-time staff member from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated (IHQ), a Vice President
