The Province Polemarch’s Message
Since our inception 112 years removed, our primary focus has been and still is on “achievement,” and the Eastern Province continues to provide fertile soil for its advancement Today’s truly resolute reporters recognize that their effectiveness is based on certain fundamental principles; chiefly among them are their conscientious devotion to duty and their genuine interest in and concern for our noble clan’s growth and development Thus, The Kappa Chronicle serves a twofold purpose: first, to market our brand; and second, to provide a call-to-action message
In the broadest sense possible, our stalwart corps of self-effacing journalists discharge their assigned performance responsibilities in a manner that enables us to keep Kappa Alpha Psi’s good name and its good works before the public at all times. As the keystone to the execution of the local unit’s comprehensive communications plan, the chapter reporter is primarily charged with discharging the following duties:
1. Maintaining records of chapter successes and member accomplishments
2 Covering events and assisting the chapter in delivering news-related content to the public from a fair and unbiased perspective
3. Serving as a photographer
4 Submitting timely articles to this publication, The Journal, and the news media
5. Using social media platforms advantageously to highlight our body of work
I personally applaud the fine efforts that our cadre of chapter reporters and the province’s editorial panel exert to ensure that our story is properly presented in a meaningful way. As the chief executive officer of the Flagship Province, I cordially invite you to review the commentaries contained in this news organ and to utilize the information provided to the greatest extent possible

MESSAGE FROM THE PROVINCE REPORTER
IGreetings Brothers of the Flagship:
It is my pleasure to share the Spring 2023 edition of the Eastern Province Khronicle with you Coming off a very successful 2023 Eastern Province Council in Norfolk, hosted by the Portsmouth/Suffolk (VA) Alumni Chapter, there is much to be thankful for in the flagship Eastern Province. In just two short years, our province will reach the milestone of 100 years and sharing our story will become even more critical as we enter the second century of the Eastern Province
Telling our story as a province has been a key priority for me since you first elected me to serve in this role for our beloved Eastern Province The undergraduate story is one that is as equally important as the story of our alumni chapters and we need help from all of alumni chapters and chapter advisors to ensure that our undergraduates are sharing their story with both the Eastern Province and the Grand Chapter. My challenge to each of you is to encourage an undergraduate brother to submit an article for inclusion in either the Eastern Province Khronicle or in the Journal of Kappa Alpha Psi
To that end, the Province Reporter Committee is looking for an undergraduate brother to join our team and assist with the following:
Represent the voice of undergraduate brothers as it relates to chronicling their respective chapter stories.
Aid the committee in brainstorming ways to increase undergraduate engagement within the story-telling process.
Review Eastern Province Khronicle and Journal of Kappa Alpha Psi submissions and provide feedback to chapters, where appropriate
Here is where we need your help Please send nominations of undergraduate brothers who you think can serve in such a valuable role to provincereporter@epkapsiorg Be sure to include the undergraduate brother’s first and last name, email address, phone number, chapter, and advisor’s name. Someone from the Province Reporter Committee will reach out to all nominees
The Province “Brothers Only” portal has been updated by our Eastern Province Director of Technology, Brother Haugabook, and my committee and I will facilitate training at the 2023 Eastern Province Officers Workshop to ensure that our new chapter reporters are trained properly and our returning chapter reporters have access to a refresher on portal submission.
Lastly, I wanted to remind all brothers that submissions for the Summer 2023 edition of the Eastern Province Khronicle are due on Saturday, July 29, 2023, via the submission portal

4 Nupes Earn Their Six Star Medal while raising 100k for Charities
Woodbridge (VA) Alumni
By: Antar Johnson
It’s an elite group- there are only 11,192 people in the entire world who can claim the honor. And of that elite group, there are only four Nupes That group is the Six-Star Finishers for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, who are recognized for completing the World Marathons in Chicago, Boston, New York, London, Berlin and Tokyo. In addition to running hundreds of miles in pursuit of the Six Stars, these Nupes individually have raised tens of thousand dollars for charity through the marathons.
The Abbott Corporation created the Six Star Medal in 2016 to increase the enthusiasm for running the 262 mile races that constitute a marathon. The corporation encourages participation by both professional and nonprofessional athletes, who earn a star for each of the world marathons they have completed Six Star Finishers who complete the six races under all the rules and time restrictions are given the coveted Six Star medal. Additionally, Abbott set up the World Majors Marathon (WMM) Hall of Fame webpage, where all the Six Star Finishers race stats are stored and ranked by different categories The Six Star Medal has quickly become the Holy Grail for runners around the world.
Four members of Kappa Alpha Psi- Bryant Fields (Kappa Rho, Spring 87, Life Member), Steven Johnson (Omicron Kappa Chapter, Fall 1990, Life
11
Member), Chris Gray (Epsilon Chi , Spring v 92), and Antar Johnson (Nu Sigma, Spring 90, Life Member) joined in the quest for the Six Star Medal when they were seeking ways to stay active, healthy, and fit as they got older Bryant and Chris were veteran marathoners with many marathons leading up to the WMM. Steve and Antar were marathon novices, having only run two or three marathons before beginning their quest. At the beginning of their WMM journey, there were less than 900 Six Star Medal recipients in the United States and 4,000 worldwide.
Running the WMM is a difficult and expensive journey. There are only a few ways a runner can participate in a race: through lotteries and timed qualifications, or by raising money for charities affiliated with the different races. Bryant, Steve, Chris, and Antar were successfully vetted through various charities, and their combined philanthropic efforts raised 100 thousand dollars in donations
After starting on their Six Star journeys at various times, the four Nupes got to meet and fraternize in Berlin. They noticed that they were unique - there were usually very few African Americans running the races, outnumbered by 100-to-1. And as African American males we were outnumbered 10 to one most times with African American females The most astonishing part was that we were the only Kappa Alpha Psi members that we met while running the international races on the WMM Six Star journey.
Like most people, these Nupes had big plans for 2020; we all had secured the charities for the last races on their Six Star journeys However, we all know what happened in 2020. The world shut down in March 2020, just a week before travel worldwide ground to a halt At the same time, millions of people got sick or passed away. During this time, the Nupes still encouraged each other to hold on to their Six Star dream. They stayed in touch through
social media and Facebook workout groups. Their workouts and check-ins helped relieve the stress of living through a pandemic
In the fall of 2021, the group was able to run the Boston Marathon and earn another Star Bryant and Steve became Six Star Finisher members and probably the first Six Star Finishers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Chris and Antar had to wait for the Tokyo Marathon to reopen to get their Sixth Stars Finally, after a three year wait, on March 5, 2023, Chris and Antar received their Sixth Stars and the coveted Six Star Medal in Tokyo Chris and Antar joined Bryant and Steve as the only Six Star Finishers who are members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Because of pandemic delays, over 3,000 earned the medal in Tokyo, setting a new Six Star record that is now listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. Since they received their Six Star in Tokyo, Chris and Antar are part of this world record. There are now a total of 2,368 Americans and 11,192 Six Star Finishers in the world
Antar’s journey was covered twice on the local Washington, DC news as he was fortunate enough to travel the World with his family. However, the journey for these Nupes to the Sixth Star was long and arduous, filled with many unexpected twists. Along the way, each had to overcome injuries, setbacks, and even battle medical issues that could have potentially derailed their quest. But with the support of their brothers, each one preserved and eventually achieved their goal

DVA's Annual Adopt-AFamily for Christmas
Danville (VA) Alumni
By: DeAndre Howard, EdD
Each year at Christmas time, the Danville (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi adopts a family in need for the holiday. Usually, the name comes from the Division of Social Services or another community organization that works with those families in need This year the chapter was given a family of 6 who requested toys and clothes for 5 children. Several brothers went shopping at several stores to fulfill the wish lists and we were successful. When we delivered the items to the families, they were surprised and very thankful DVA has been serving the community for years and will continue to do so.

The Brothers of the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter had a powerful second annual Walter E. Fauntroy Legislative Day on Thursday May 18, 2023 It was truly magical having so many unified black men walking the halls of the John Wilson Building, which is equivalent to a city hall We had over 50 brothers in attendance that included Eastern Province Senior Vice Polemarch Brother
