a message from our HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Providence Community, This year marks our 65 th anniversary as a school. 1955 is the year Jonas Salk began inoculating children against polio, the microwave oven hit store shelves, and Disneyland opened its doors. It is also the year of Rosa Parks and Emmet Till.
We hope this new look and format helps us tell the ongoing story of our beloved school even more effectively. Let us know what you think! And we look forward to celebrating this 65th anniversary with all of you throughout the year.
This anniversary year is an opportunity for all of us to take time to reflect upon our past, learn from it, and then look ahead to a BOLD and exciting future.
In Providence,
According to Merriam Webster, this “extensive mental view (as over a stretch of time or a series of events)” is called a vista. Moving forward, the stories in these pages will be designed to help us see the full range of our vista, that wide view we have of ourselves, from our origins as an all-girls school, through our ongoing pandemic response, to our vision for the future. Providence High School used to have a newspaper called Vista and our campus is on Buena Vista – and what a good view it is! So it seems appropriate to mark this anniversary year by renaming and redesigning Pioneer Connections into Vista.
