A big thank you to the
to Issue 520 of your Deals on Wheels Magazine
Nothing says dedication and passion more than braving braving cold, wet, weather to stand outside and be part of a big event.
As children we always take it for granted that Mum or Dad will be standing on the sideline early on a Saturday morning in the middle of winter to cheer us on as we shoot hoops, and kick or throw footballs of one shape or another.
It's only as an adult, when you realise they had a choice in the matter, that you truly understand the love they had for us kids and marvel at their dedication.
There was a bit of that going on for me on King's Birthday weekend when I arrived at Alexandra in country Victoria with the temperature hovering at a balmy seven degrees (celcius) and the drizzle just heavy
enough to make you think an umbrella would have been a clever idea.
While I was there before the official start, so too were a whole heap of exhibitors and the earlybird truck loving public, and they were there in solid numbers. In fact an estimated 12,000 people wandered through town on that Sunday.
Thanks to our friends at Larsen's Truck Sales, I was able to grab a spot in a tent near an outdoor heater for the morning, handing out hundreds of their beanies and biscuits, and copies of Deals on Wheels magazine to attendees at the 28th Alexandra Truck Ute & Rod Show who came out to celebrate all things transport, and a bit of woodchopping too.
It wasn't my first rodeo. I had been before. I knew Alexandra at the start of winter could be chilly, and, I also knew, just like everyone else there I suspect, that the drizzle would clear during the day, the entertainment would be rocking on the stage and the camaraderie and celebration of another year of hard work and spectacular machinery would be well worth the effort. It certainly was and I'm already looking forward to seeing everyone again in 2026. Thanks again to those who dropped by to say hello this year.
Anyone working on truck events in disaster-impacted communities might want to check out Australia Post’s updated community grants program
National letter, parcel and freight carrier Australia Post has announced a major expansion of its community grants program for this year to allow for more support to be provided to disaster-impacted communities.
An additional $250,000 has been made available to support grassroots initiatives in these areas, with eligible not-for-profit groups now able to apply for grants of up to $10,000 to support projects enhancing mental wellbeing, foster connection and build resilience in local communities.
Since 2020, Australia Post has awarded more than 350 grants to community groups across Australia. Last year, the program awarded 71 projects across the country, providing them with more than $500,000 of funding. More than half of successful applicants were based in regional areas.
“In times of disaster, it’s local organisations that are best placed to support the recovery process. They understand their communities, know what’s needed and are there for the long haul,” Australia Post general manager of community and stakeholder engagement Nick Tracey says.
“That’s why we’re proud to offer an additional allocation of up to $250,000 in community grants this year, to support projects in disaster-impacted communities across Australia that promote mental wellbeing, strengthen social connections, and build resilience within their communities.”
Professor and head of school of psychological sciences at Macquarie
University Dr Maria Kangas says community groups play a vital role in helping people recover and rebuild after disasters.
“They offer a unique combination of practical support, emotional connection and shared purpose that fosters resilience and a sense of hope. Unlike larger institutions, grassroots organisations are deeply embedded in the fabric of their communities,” she says.
“They understand the needs of their communities, have earned trust and can offer tailored support that’s realistic and responsive. Supporting these organisations is an essential investment in the long-term recovery and wellbeing of disaster-affected communities.”
The 2024 recipient, Windemere Child and Family Services in Mirboo North, Victoria, played a vital role in supporting community wellbeing through its Storm Recovery Whittle and Chat group.
In the wake of destruction following a major storm, the group helped participants to create meaningful items from storm debris, fostering resilience, social connections and community cohesion.
Organisations interested in applying are encouraged to review the Community Grant guidelines carefully to check eligibility requirements, with eligible organisations able to apply until 11.59pm AEST on Monday July 7, 2025. To check eligibility, visit: auspost. com.au/grants. Successful applicants will be notified in September 2025.

Ever thought about the truck enthusiast behind the truck photo? Jaymin McGuire tells Deals on Wheels how his love for big rigs came to be
Words: Tiane Gavillucci
Images: Jaymin McGuire
Photography
Jaymin has a love for vintage vehicles
It’s admirable really, a truckies’ love for their rig. It’s the kind of passion that makes you search for one of your own.
“Their trucks are their pride and joy,” Jaymin McGuire says. “That’s one of the reasons I got into capturing trucks on the road.”
You must admit that without a good truck photo, the Aussie passion for a classic rig just wouldn’t be the same or nearly as widespread.
Jaymin’s love for truck photography didn’t come from books or gallery visits, but from a mother who enjoyed painting and the creative side of life.
Long before Jaymin sat crouched down with a steady camera in hand capturing roadside rigs, his interest in photography lay elsewhere.
“It started back in high school in 2010, I
wasn’t really into trucks back then, I only got into it about five years ago,” he says.
“I’ve always been into loud stuff, like graffiti and cars. Then I started to post a few truck photos on Facebook and slowly it started to reach more and more people.”
But he’s not just shooting for likes on socials anymore, (though that’s where it all started).
“It began with roadside truck photography and grew into photoshoots with drivers and getting their name out there into magazines,” he says.
Now he’s eyeing contracts with dealerships, truck companies and brands that need a striking style he can deliver. A regular gig with Kenworth for example is high on Jaymin’s wish list.
Jaymin’s photography style called ‘light painting’ is what he describes as “unique”. His sessions don’t take place in cosy studios or pristine daylight, but at night under the light of the streetlamps, LED truck lights and the stars.
“I haven’t seen many people use light painting, it’s a bit unique, not a lot of photographers take pictures at night, they mostly do their work in the daylight,” he says.
“But I'd rather go out, spend time at night and capture something different so other people can see the truck differently as well.”
It’s a style few venture into, but for Jaymin it’s the only way to do a big rig justice, with its lights, reflections and shadows.
While truck photography is still his niche, he’s also dipped into car culture and even quirky gigs like judging cat shows.
“They pay pretty good so why not,” he laughs.
But no matter the side gigs, trucks remain his obsession.
He doesn’t want to be just behind the camera either, but in the cab of a truck also.
“I got my HR licence, and I want to work my way up to getting my HD one day as well,” he says.
“I want to get behind the wheel of a truck soon. I moved to Australia from New Zealand in December, so I’m still trying to learn all the
That background is marvellous areas and road rules because they are quite different. So I’ve been on my best driving behaviour here.”
We asked Jaymin, for the truckies who want to take a ripper photo of their truck, what makes a good photo?
“Location is important, get yourself a good back drop,” Jaymin says.
“When the truck is all clean, and has certain stand out features, that makes a good photo.”
So, truck lovers, if your rig has custom lights, a crazy paint job or maybe it’s just the way it’s been cared for, that’s enough to get you an incredible pic — plus, you can truly tell when someone loves their truck.
There’s a diverse option of trucks Jaymin has the opportunity to photograph — but his favourite?
“I’m a big fan of a Kenworth or anything
old school and loud,” he says.
“Because I like to take photos at night, any truck with cool lights is amazing, makes everything look so much better in the photo.”
Out of the thousands of pictures Jaymin has captured over the years, there’s one photo he remembers best.
“It was an old school Mack back in New Zealand. It had just finished being rebuilt, and had a new paint job,” he says.
“It was taken on a quiet, little country road at nighttime, and I played with the reflection on the road. You can see the moon and trees in the background, it gives a real old school-cool vibe.”
And somewhere else, on another quiet road under a full moon, Jaymin is setting up a camera, waiting to seize his next story on wheels.

Gloomy weather didn’t stop the Bundaberg Heritage Show on May 17 from being a success, with 2,000 people strolling through the gates to see vintage vehicles
Life is all about giving back. Well, it should be anyway.
Truckies tend to live by that line. You see it in the support for charitable causes and their random acts of kindness on the road.
For the Bundaberg Heritage Show, now in its seventh year, the support of truckies and truck lovers is raising money for Rotary.
Event organiser Reuben Vanderwolf says this year's event raised $8,500 for Rotary Lodge Bundaberg.
This time capsule of an event gives the community a chance to come together and relive the memories sparked by vintage cars, bikes, trucks and everything in between.
Despite the gloomy forecast that drenched Bundaberg with rain in the days leading up to show day, the sun eventually broke through the clouds, and 2025’s event was still a success.
“We had about 250 entrants, but we were down about 100 from last year's numbers,” Reuben says.
“About 2,000 people came through the gates, but compared to previous years, we were down maybe 1,000 to 1,500 people.
“The weather most definitely affected crowd numbers, it has been so unpredictable lately up here in Queensland.”
There was a broad mix of vehicles to entertain the crowd, with historic machines from the '40s and '50s, Holden utes, vintage cars and bikes and all manners of vehicles on show, through to modern four-wheel drives.
Beyond the chrome and polish, there was a stationary engine display, chugging pumps and old chaff cutters humming away — alongside local emergency services like the ambulance, police and SES sharing
their stories and gear to curious adults and children alike.
“Tractors were brought over, and they were even racing lawn mowers,” Reuben says. “Though I didn’t catch that one myself because when you’re running the show, you’re everywhere at once.”
For Reuben, the day’s highlight wasn’t a single event, but the culmination of it all.
From starting before dawn, juggling judges and awards, prizes, announcements and parking logistics, it’s a massive undertaking.
The moment he locked the gates and drove out at half-past-five was when the stress of the day melted away and he was able to finally reflect on the day it had been, a sentiment echoed by the steady stream of smiling faces and engaged crowds.
“We got there at the end of the day, and look, for the weather we had prior to the show, it was a very good day's effort, and everyone I spoke to really enjoyed the day, and that’s the main thing,” he says.
All in all, the Bundaberg Heritage Show is all about giving back.
“The folks from the Bundaberg Rotary Lodge rely on the money we raise and really appreciate what we do.”
Beyond the Lodge, the club extends their efforts to aged care homes around the town and sets up car displays for them as well.
"We do it to give back to the community so people can see some of these cars, stand there beside it, ask questions, and get a photo sitting inside the car.
“There are cars at the display you may only see at two other events in the year. For many, this may be the only chance they get to see a rare car like that and get this opportunity.”

Deals on Wheels sat down with VTA CEO Peter Anderson to uncover his opinion on the trucking industry

No, the transport industry isn’t perfect.
There’s still a lot of work to be done and changes to be made, and the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) continues to be a voice for the transport industry.
Earlier in the year, 200 people gathered at the VTA State Conference to ask the vital question: 'what can we do better?'
VTA CEO Peter Anderson had some clear cut answers for that question, and unravelled the importance of truck safety, change and the importance of these conferences.
“We focus on safety first, empowering people, boosting productivity and shaping transports future,” he says.
“We spoke about understanding that people are our greatest resource in transport, and we need to be able to manage them the right way.”
With over 30 speakers in a day and a half, the conference was fast paced, packed with content and impossible to ignore.
“We always flow through these issues with a great deal of alacrity, there’s no falling asleep during a VTA conferences,” Peter laughs.
“It’s all go, go, go!”
From government ministers like Tony Pasin and Melissa Horne, to industry leaders and representatives, everyone brought real world subjects and issues to the table and were fuelled by an urgency to address them.
Chief among them? Safety and empowerment.
“Transport reform is what we’re pushing really hard for, to look for an understanding of what industry really needs — communication and direct involvement by bureaucracies — and at the moment they don’t really do any of that,” he says.
“They tick the box in terms of engaging and dealing with stakeholders, but they don’t understand the issues in the industry.
“So, we’re pushing very hard to find some degree of transport reform so those agencies that are empowered to make positive changes for the industry live up to the responsibilities, such as AustRoads, and the National Transport Commission.”
Upon reflection following the VTA conference in March, Peter says the problem is that VTA isn't able to implement changes,
and the organisations that are there to help aren’t doing their job, which is why the VTA is looking to drive a transport reform agenda.
“We want change.
"We want practical things like understanding what the value of a time slot is for a long distance driver at a decent distribution centre,” he says.
“We want them to understand what it’s like to pay your superannuation on time, to understand what safe driving and training is all about, why we need training and how we can strengthen that.”
To add to their list of innovative ideas, the VTA is looking at a new facility for changeovers, to give drivers better relief when driving long distances.
It is also looking at cybersecurity and the need for regulation to catch up with the changes in transport technology.
The VTA State Conference not only raises issues in transport but educates the younger generation.
Peter says VTA encourages businesses to invite their young workers so they can engage with experts, rub shoulders and network with people who have loads of experience.
“This builds their confidence and knowledge, and makes them a better contributor in the workplace,” he says.
“And that's what these conferences do. They enable individuals to learn more and get
better at what they do. When they return to work, everybody takes something away from our conferences.”
If one thing is made clear from the conference, it’s that Peter doesn’t shy away from being the voice the industry needs, even when it’s unpopular.
“We're not afraid to put our head up,” Peter says. “People want to knock us off and have a crack at us, and people will say that we are wrong, and that's okay.”
“But somebody has to stand up and say ‘hey listen guys, we need to change what we're doing because it's not good enough,’ and the VTA will do that.”
And the feedback from the event, was overwhelmingly positive, with even the food and entertainment receiving praise.
“It was well attended and we're very fortunate to have such a strong network of individuals in our industry that are willing to participate.”
As for Peter’s personal takeaway?
“There’s a long way to go,” he admits. “We’re on a journey, and it’s a long one, but we’re trying.”
Led by Peter who is unwilling to settle for less in transport, conferences like these give Aussie’s and truckies reassurance that standing still isn’t an option. The transport industry will continue to push and move forward… quite literally.
We’re on a journey, and it's a long one
but we’re trying
Bringing people together to talk about industry issues is what conferences are all about. Image: VTA
The calendar has well and truly ticked over to Winter and new truck sales in Australia are staying cool in line with the weather.
As at May 31, 2024, the Truck Industry Council’s T-Mark data showed a total of 20,237 vehicles had been sold across all recorded categories — heavy, medium and light duty trucks and commercial vans.
Kenworth will be hoping its new models, launched at the Brisbane Truck Show, will keep it on top of the heavy-duty sales ladder. Image: Prime Creative Media
The total figure for the same categories for 2025 shows 17,694 vehicles sold this year, and overall sales volume decline of 12.6 per cent.
Digging into the data the heavy-duty category is down 18.5 per cent, year to date, in 2025 vs 2024, with 5,662 sales recorded to the end of May this year.
While Volvo had sold the most trucks up to the end of May last year, this year it’s Kenworth out in front with 1,317 trucks delivered by May 31.
In the medium duty category the YTD drop is not as high, showing a decline of 6.85 per cent year on year, from 3,150 sales in 2024 to 2,934 in 2025. Isuzu dominates this sector with 49.4 per cent of the market.
Light duty truck sales are showing a 13.37 per cent decline in volumes compared to this time last year, from 5,645 trucks sold to May 31 in 2024, to 4,890 to May 31, 2025.
Isuzu, with 2,596 of those sales, accounts for 53.1 per cent of the light duty truck segment.
For the month of May 2025 there were 1,172 heavy trucks sold in Australia. In May 2024 that figure was 1,615.
In order of sales for May, the top 10 best-selling brands were: Kenworth (280), Isuzu (186), Volvo (178), Scania (91), Fuso (88), Hino (61), Mercedes-Benz (60), DAF (60), Mack (49), UD Trucks (44)..
Eighty less medium duty trucks were sold to customers in May 2025 when compared to the same month in 2024.
This year, 670 medium trucks were sold in May, with Isuzu accounting for 337 of those, followed by Hino with 231 and Fuso with 67.
The remaining sales went to Hyundai (9), IVECO (8), UD Trucks (8), Volvo (4), Mercedes-Benz (3), MAN (2) and DAF (1).
The rush to buy light duty trucks before the end of financial year last year does not seem to have been replicated yet in 2025.
While the 1,319 light duty trucks were delivered in May 2024, this year 1,090 have found new owners, a 17.36 per cent drop, year on year.
Isuzu led the charge with 612 sales in May, accounting for 56.1 per cent of all sales.
Coming a distant second was Fuso with 166 sales, followed, in sales volume order, by IVECO (72), Fiat (70), Hino (66), Renault (37), Mercedes-Benz (32), Hyundai (20), LDV (10), Ford (3), Foton Mobility (1) and Volkswagen (1).

What are some things you would expect to find sitting at the bottom of a quarry?
I bet your first answer wouldn’t be a 1970 International C1840, but here we are.
“I bought the truck for $1,000 from a guy that owns a big quarry around Shepparton,”
Ian Sidebottom says.
“It was straight, bit rusty and scraped, plus the brakes and motor were bugging. So, I bought it, fixed her up and named her Gracey.”
“A bloke up the road didn’t cut the rust out,
just bogged her up which cost me $1,500, so then I put some of my own decent dollars on it.”
Gracey is just one of four of the Internationals Ian owns. His collection all sport the same beautiful coat of paint — beige and red.
“I’ve got the same truck, just different models. I’ve got the 1960 model, then a ‘66 then a ‘70 then a ’72,” he says.
“A lot of people think they’re all the exact same truck, but really, they’re all just brothers and sisters.
“I've also got an old Ute that I use every day. It’s my service vehicle.”
This 1970 International has now been in Ian’s life for 28 years. But not long after owning it, did he decide to “step up” his choice in vehicles.
“Working Gracey for four months gave me enough money to buy a Benz, which I decided to upgrade to because they were the better truck,” he says.
“The C1840 International was originally painted that specific beige and red colour.
“I got the Benz after that purchase and decided to stick to the colour theme.
"Soon after I bought another three Internationals and painted them up the exact same colours also.”
Each International truck has been restored, and though Ian has a deep love for each one,
It’s coming together!
Gracey’s story is what he wanted to share with Deals on Wheels
“I got a working motor out of the scrap yard and got that working inside the truck,” he says.
“I bought an old fuel tanker to put on it and I started doing some road-works. I spent about $7,000 on it all, and it paid off itself in no time.
“When I bought the Benz, I was able to put it on the tank to make things a bit easier.”
The other Internationals — including Gracey — are still working trucks — carting water.
And Gracey’s still going strong. Only a few years ago was she driving all the way up to Alice Springs and back with a pop-top
caravan on her back to a truck show.
At 71, Ian’s love for vintage vehicles has never dulled, and his devotion to them has remained unwavering.
“I grew up on a farm when I was a kid, and my old man had trucks on the farm, so I always had a love for them,” he says. “But no more purchases now, I've got enough.”
Ian has spent a lot of his life breathing life back into old rigs, and despite his love for each of his trucks, Gracey has earnt a special place in his heart.
Besides, not too many people could find beauty at the bottom of a quarry.

Deals on Wheels loves to find out about the people behind the trucks and this month we met Anthony Black, Michael Ellis and Michael Johnson
Words: Tiane Gavillucci
The Ford Farmer
It all started at a casual catch up. Anthony Black and his brother Grant, both members of a car club, were chatting cars and trucks with fellow enthusiast Keith Mackinlay at a local meet.
The Ford has been kept fairly original. Image: Anthony Black
The Blacks have owned their family farm for 99 years. Image: Anthony Black
“We struck up a conversation regarding the different vehicles we admired and spoke about our love of trucks,” Anthony says.
“We shared that we owned a silver LNT 9000 that we were using on the farm at the time. Keith also shared that he was still using a 1987 LTL Louisville for his business and mentioned how good the truck was.
“We had always thought we would like an LTL at some point and Keith did mention that he would sell it in the future. And sure enough, in May last year we had the opportunity to purchase the truck, which we did.”
The LTL has had many homes, first bought by Comet Container Transport before being taken over by TNT Equipment and then landing in Keith’s hands.
Keith repainted the Ford and kept nearly everything else untouched.
“Mechanically, he never touched it. It retained its original day cab, bull bar and fuel tanks right up until we purchased it,” he says.
“It turned up at our farm basically how Keith had run it since his purchase in 1997 I believe.
“We’ve owned it since May last year, so we decided to bling it up a bit. We removed the spring suspension and installed airbag suspension, which was necessary to help us load accurately on the farm for bulk products.
“The front axle was upgraded to support some bigger front brakes, we put a new air seat in it, a red dot air conditioner on the roof, and blinged it up with some stainless steel and aluminium trims. Grant was the inspiration behind the build.”
But one thing for sure about this Ford, though it sure does look good, it’s a worker more than anything.
The Rutherglen Rumble was the first ever show Anthony and Grant has taken the Ford to, which is proof enough that it’s not your usual show truck.
“Truck shows aren’t something we usually do, but Rutherglen is a local event that we support each year,” he says.
On a daily basis, the Ford spends its time far away from truck shows and events, but on the Black family’s farm.
As most know, many bulk products come in and out of farming, so it’s important to own a truck that’s reliable and capable, which is where the Ford comes in…
“Our family farm has been around for 99 years, it’ll be 100 next year, and we've been
using Ford trucks since my grandfather’s time, we have a history of using them,” he says.
The LTL is a backup to the farm’s primary hauler, a Freightliner Columbia with an AB double setup.
One thing is for sure with this rig, it works hard, and it looks damn good doing it.
Sadly, Keith passed away in May this year, but the Ford will forever be a reminder of the connection the Black family shared with Keith and his shared love of trucks.
It's quite common to have a love-hate relationship with your siblings, it’s almost like a rite of passage to argue and disagree.
But Michael Johnson has nothing but respect for his older brother Paul — in fact he dedicated his truck and trailer to him.
Michael’s brand new 2023 T610 Kenworth SAR features a beautiful Anzac mural painted as a “tribute” to his brother.
“My brother is still alive, but I wanted to pay him respect for his service in the military,” he says.
The artwork captures Paul Johnson on patrol in Somalia. Image: Michael Johnson
Both sides of the truck and trailer are painted in cinematic detail.
“I did this because he’s a good dude,” Michael says simply.
Michael wanted to pay respect those who serve in the military. Image: Michael Johnson
Michael took home almost all the awards with his truck at the Kingaroy Truck Show. Image: Michael Johnson
On one side, Michael’s brother stands at the peak of a rocky hill in Afghanistan, against a forward operating base in the background.
The other side features Paul again, but this time rifle ready on patrol in Somalia in 1993 and at a food distribution centre.
“The trailer shows his actual medals with the Australian flag and the ode to the fallen soldiers in Afghanistan, which is actually written on a memorial in Afghanistan,” he says.
“Similarly, the other side has my brother’s medals painted up there, but faded into a set of rifles, meaning ‘stand down’, with the Australian flag and Anzac ode.
Deals on Wheels discovered this brotherly tribute at the Kingaroy Truck Show where Michael didn’t turn up to win, but left with nearly every award on the table.
“I only brought the one truck with me,” he says, almost downplaying it.
But anyone who saw the T610 SAR roll into the Kingaroy showgrounds could tell that this truck is not only hard to look away from, but also has a story to share.
Michael’s transport story didn’t begin as a farm boy or a fifth-generation truckie. It started at age 17 inside the Transport Corps in the army.
“When I came out of my service, I started running a business named Gordonbrook Sand Quarry, and I needed trucks to cart the resources,” he says.
“I’ve got a sand quarry and a landscape yard, so we cart mostly sand, but also mulch and gravel for the landscape yard as well.”
The Kenworth wasn’t a restoration project or a collector piece, it was bought to be a canvas.
The truck doesn’t mourn a loss like many may suspect, it honours service and tells a story to anyone who is willing to stop and listen.
It all started with a scroll.
No dusty barn discovery. No 10- year odyssey to retrieve a family legacy.
Just a regular afternoon scroll on Facebook Marketplace, until something big caught Michael Ellis’ eye.
There it was, a 1975 Ford LNT9000, just sitting there, waiting for its next owner.
“I grew up around that era of trucks,” he says. “I was on the lookout for a cheap project to do up, and these are the kind of trucks I like.”
Michael wasn’t looking for perfection, he was looking for a task to keep him busy, and this old school Ford would do the trick.
The truck had a past too, or at least a whisper of one.
All Michael knows is it used to haul for P&O down on the wharves, a workhorse for the ports, day in and day out, but the full tale of its past remains unknown.
For Michael, it wasn’t about restoring the rig to showroom conditions.
“I just wanted to tidy it up really, give it a clean,” he says. “I fixed an oil leak on the gearbox, put in some new brakes and the drums replaced the brake hoses as needed.”
“There’s new rear main seal Rockwell diffs
and two new universals done. It drives as it should, but it has some rust.”
Michael and the Ford had about 12 months together before he recently sold it. A short ride, but a good one.
So why let it go?
“We didn’t use the truck, we were planning on restoring it completely, but we never got that far,” he says.
“Now I’m downsizing my business which is in earth-moving, so I decided to sell it.”
Though he never got to see it fully restored, Mic hael was part of breathing some life back into the old rig.
As most truckies do, Michael grew up in transport and explains that as the reason for his love of trucking.
Now, somewhere out there, that 1975 Ford is waiting again for a proper restoration.
And so, the next chapter in its rumbling story is only just beginning.
They may have had to crack ice off the windscreens to get there, but fans and participants still turned out in force at Alexandra Truck Show
KBeanies, coats, gloves and boots were the fashion of the day at the 2025 Alexandra Truck Show on the King's Birthday weekend
King’s Birthday weekend means just one thing for Victorian truck lovers, and that is the wintery fun of the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show.
Found about 130km from Melbourne, heading out towards Lake Eildon and the snowfields beyond, Alexandra sits about 240m above sea level.
This year the town celebrated its 28th running of the Truck, Ute and Rod Show, and the experience shows.
Despite a drizzly, cold weekend, Saturday’s Truck Run from Yarck to Alexandra was a well organised event, with a solid turn out for the commemorative ceremony at the Truck Driver Memorial where 17 truck drivers were honoured by having their names added to the memorial wall.
Those drivers were: Steven Sala, Craig Walton, Bradley MacGibbon, Peter Bate, Vernon Fraser, Michael Fraser, Gary MacDonald, Wayne Couch, Linton John Cram, Robert Johnson, Robert Purcell, Gregory Bruce McIntosh, Rod McGowan, Adrian Wightman, Karl Wightman, Paul Colafella and Robert Moloney.
Braving the rain and near zero temperatures, volunteers and drivers were up as early as 4am setting up stands and parking up trucks on the main street.
Roads in the centre of town are blocked off to allow the trucks to be parked up on bitumen, a key to the event’s success, particularly in winter where cold, wet sports grounds could easily be destroyed by heavy trucks lining up.
Trucks, utes, hot rods, and various merchandise and transport industry products and services were on show up and down the main street, with community groups manning food stations offering everything from pizza to sausages in bread and roast beef rolls.
This year’s Truck, Ute and Rod Show ambassador was named as Warren Davies, The Unbreakable Farmer. The show’s auction, raffle and sponsors dinner was held in support of the cause of rural mental health, with more than $100,000 raised for a mobile mental health support clinic.
The topic is particularly relevant for the locals with Murrundindi Shire having the second highest ratio of men’s suicide in Australia, second only to Darwin.
Talking about the mobile mental health clinic Davies said one in five people will have issues with mental health.
The theme was also covered with the TradeMutt Truck, Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds’ new Kenworth and various trucks and stands showing their colours in support of the Dolly’s Dream charity.
Trucking with CJ’s Casaurina Smith was along to the show in support of her partner
Aaron Reid who drove the SRV Road Freight Logistic’s newest T909 down to be part of the show. Just two days old the truck has been kitted out with all of the latest equipment and a good dose of chrome.
Aaron, who has been with SRV for 12 years, said it would be used to move freight along the Eastern seaboard from SRV’s Queensland base.
CJ, who has amassed more than 78,000 followers on Instagram for her no-nonsense coverage of life as a young truck driver, was off the clock for this event, along to say hello to friends before heading off on a new adventure driving a Kenworth for Supercar’s Team 18 to the Perth and Darwin rounds. As with most truck shows there was polishing, judging and shining to be done, with the judges braving the rain from 9.30am to log their scores on 17 categories, while visitors cast their votes on the People’s Choice Award category.
People’s Choice went to Michael McDonald of Fred’s Transport for his 2022 Kenworth T909.
Truck of the Show was awarded to G & D Inverno for their 2024 Kenworth SAR Legend, a working truck that runs two trips a week back and forth to Adelaide for the business.

An annual show held as a tribute to Queensland machinery lover David Hack is busy raising money for research into leukemia cures too

In the late '90s, a young man from Toowoomba named David Hack had two great loves: cars and photography.
Diagnosed with leukemia in his twenties, David had a vision to mark his 28th birthday with something unforgettable, involving fancy cars and aircraft at the Aerotech hangar at the airport, home to a legendary collection of warbirds.
Unfortunately, he wouldn’t live to see it.
“David died two days before his birthday,” event organiser Wolf Sievers says.
“But his family and friends wanted to do
it anyway. So, they did, raising money to go toward the Leukemia Foundation and Blue Care.
“They ended up realising, this event may not be a bad money spinner, so they now run it every year.”
The David Hack Classic today remains true to its mission, donating money raised to the Leukemia Foundation, along with other charities.
“It’s not a huge amount, but it’s something,” Wolf says.
What started as a tribute has grown into one
of the region’s most treasured annual events, the David Hack Classic. And this year marked the 25th time engines have roared in David’s memory.
The sun-drenched day saw around 5,000 people gather at the showgrounds wandering through rows of lovingly maintained vehicles.
From modern towering Kenworths to monster Macks, there were rigs from all decades including the 50s and 60s.
“We probably had 450 exhibitors,” Wolf says. “That includes cars, trucks and motorbikes and then we had 25 to 30 aircraft, so the show was a success.”
While the vehicles are the main draw, beyond the scent of polish and petrol, this isn’t just a display, it’s a gathering of shared passion and quiet remembrance for a fellow machinery lover.
“This is a chance for people to own their work and bring in what they love,” Wolf says.
“You get to see so many great vehicles, along with the work people put into them which is so impressive. Then we get to admire it as a result.”
Each truck with its dents, shine and character, carries a slice of history and serves as a reminder of the road warriors who built the highways, farms and freight lines to keep Australia moving.
“This show is a calendar item now,” he says.
“It’s an annual event in the Toowoomba region where people go to display their trucks and vehicles. It’s an event in the community calendar.”
What started as a young man’s final wish, has become a legacy far bigger than anyone could have imagined.
Every dollar raised, engine rumbled and wheel turned, helps to keep David Hack’s story alive.

An incredible amount of over $200,000 was raised for DIPG – a deadly brain cancer that affects young children – at the Convoy for a Cure

The pink flames and blue backdrop make 'Mythical Magic' a rolling piece of art for all to enjoy
If you happened to be anywhere near Townsville on May 25, you’d have heard it before you saw it… 250 trucks polished to perfection, growling, horns blaring, rolling down the streets for a purpose.
That purpose is for the Convoy for a Cure.
The trucking community showed solidarity and drove for a mission: to fund research into Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), one of
the world’s deadliest brain cancers that affect young children.
“This convoy started 10 years ago, and it’s dedicated to Ren Pedersen’s daughter Amy, who lost her fight with DIPG in 2009,” event organiser Todd Martin says.
“If your child is diagnosed with this cancer, there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
There’s no state or federal funding even; for
Check out these two beautie from the Jones Transport fleet!
this particular cancer, it’s all based on public funding.”
And so, every year for a decade, the public has been coming together, and this year 15,000 of them lined the streets and more than $200,000 was raised in just a few days to go toward the research foundation: ‘The Cure Starts Now’.
Companies big and small chipped in to support the cause.
Northern Stevedoring Services was the event’s naming rights sponsor and has
contributed $40,000 so far, with more to come. The donation landed NSS the coveted lead truck position.
Other businesses like Penske Australia, Western Truck Group, Brown and Hurley and RGM Maintenance also donated to the vital cause.
And there were some big donators with even bigger hearts, like DF & DL Drain Transport, who gave a total of $20,265 to finding the cure, with Ellsey Metal Recycling contributing a kind $4,031.
More than $200,000 was raised toward ‘The Cure Starts Now’
“Nortrans Townsville are always generous,” Todd says. “Over the 10 years, I reckon they’ve put in around $100,000.”
Any trucking fan along the 10km stretch on Webb Drive from Bohle to Ross Dam Park on May 25 would tell you the day was trucking heaven.
There was a pristine 1979 Kenworth and a 123 model, a yellow Mack called ‘Undefeated’, a White Road Commander and a number of Mercedes trucks were featured among the highlights of the convoy.
“I was born and bred around logging trucks in New Zealand, so anything old is good for me,” Todd laughs.
But trucks obviously don’t drive themselves, so the magic of the convoy is
really in the people behind those windshields.
Todd says this convoy brings people together and allows truckies to show off what they do and be celebrated for it.
“Blue collar workers are the hardest working people around,” he says.
“I'd hate to know how much metal polish, truck wash and gerni pressure is used every year. Truckies just go berserk on their trucks.
“So, this convoy is a thank you to the truckies and the owner drivers out there.”
But most importantly, Todd says this is the best opportunity the Queensland town has, to come together.
“There’s the Brisbane Truck Show yes, but outside of that there’s no social get together for the heavy vehicle industry,” he says. “And that’s what this event is all for.”
A staggering 200 trucks tooted their horns around Townsville!
It took three trucks to fix up this 1978 cabover Kenworth, and Sean Denny couldn’t help but preserve its history and story
Words: Tiane Gavillucci

This Kenworth was put together with three trucks!
The 1978 cabover Kenworth that you see on this page is a product of three different trucks.
This rig isn’t your average vintage vehicle that’s been left outside only to be discovered in mildew and rust 20 years later.
No, this truck was made from random bits and pieces.
“It was made up from Kenworth chassis rails, a Kenworth cabin and a Ford Motor gearbox and diffs,” owner Sean Denny says.
Back when Phillips Transport was king of the roads in Shepparton during the '60s through to the '80s, every truck that entered their growing fleet got its place in line.
But by the time Sean found it, the truck had been laid to rest for close to a decade.
“It had been sitting for probably eight or nine years, and it was pretty rundown, just driveable. It needed a bit of work to get it back together,” he says.
been playing around with it for the last eight months.
“You’ll always find something to do to an old truck, but I don’t want to change too much of it, I like preserving its past.
“It’s a '70s model truck, so you got to leave it the way it is because at the end of the day, that’s history.”
And that history is splashed across the truck’s original paintwork, the unmistakable colours of Phillips Transport.
“The truck hasn’t been painted since that time. And you’ll find that people want to paint their trucks up different colours and modify them, but then that history is gone, and it will never be seen again,” he says.
“Maintaining our past is what a lot of people actually want.”
Sean’s been around trucks for as long as he can remember, as his dad bore the love for transport first.
“My dad used to build trucks for a bloke
many years ago when I was around three or four,” he says.
“I can just remember going to his workshop in Ringwood and there dad was, building trucks.”
The smell of grease and steel I’m sure brings back moments of nostalgia — so it’s no surprise that his property is more museum than home…
“I’ve got about eight or nine trucks just sitting at home,” he says.
“You do some work on one for one week, a little bit on another the next week and so on.”
But ‘number 45’ wasn’t just another old truck to do up, it’s a rig with a story.
“I’ll get it out on the road one day soon,” he says. “There’s just always something to do.”
And if it weren’t for truck lovers like Sean, these historical rigs, that tell stories of the old Aussie roads, would be completely rebuilt, left rotting away in a shed, or simply, have their history painted over.
(Above left) Back in time at Phillips Transport. (Above right) It’s quite the hard worker!

Brisbane’s wet weather failed to put a dampener on the Heritage Truck Show held at Rocklea on May 17 and 18
IThe rain threatened to stop this year's event going ahead, but in the end there was just a tiny bit of mud to be dealt with
f you’re going to have a whole week about trucks, it can’t all be the new shiny kind.
At least that’s obviously been part of the thinking process around the Brisbane Truck Show and the timing of this year’s Heritage Truck Association of Australia’s 2025 Rocklea Heritage Truck Show.
In further great news for attendees at the Brisbane Truck Show who have a keen interest in the trucks of yesteryear — there was a free bus running all day Saturday to shuffle people from South Brisbane to Rocklea to see what it was all about.
Although it’s been a while now, if you cast
your mind back to mid-May you might recall Queensland and Northern New South Wales were copping a fairly hectic series of rain events.
For the organisers of the Rocklea Heritage Truck Show, Friday, May 16, looked like being make or break for their event.
Too much more rain and it would simply be too difficult to put heavy trucks on soft ground without creating massive issues for the showground venue that was playing host.
Luckily it slowed up, and a compromise was decided upon. Rather than having the trucks in the centre of the showground field
– they would park up around the more solid dirt road on the outside and leave the grass alone to live another day.
For exhibitors and visitors alike, this seemed to work pretty well — allowing the organisers to park the trucks up and step them through history, including a Mack truck from every decade of its 125 year world wide history – and UD trucks in honour of that brand’s 90 years on the world stage.
Deals on Wheels caught up with the Heritage Truck Association of Australia (HTAA) president Mark Plunkett on the Saturday afternoon of the event in Brisbane and he was upbeat about the number of members participating and the crowds flowing through.
“The crowds have been incredible today. We’ve had full buses — working with the HVIA has been really good for us,” Mark said.
“Probably some of our biggest ever crowd numbers.

“There’s some really significant older trucks here.”
Mark points out a Leader brand truck, the only one of its kind in Australia, and the lineup of Macks, from classic to cutting edge as drawcards capturing plenty of attention.
He said the participation reflected a strong
interest in trucking heritage, and mirrored the passion of the 560 active members on the HTAA’s list.
Long time truck enthusiast George Breedon was among the exhibitors on the day, with his red and white1960’s Austin standing out from the crowd.
Lovingly restored over five years, the Austin has been fitted with a stock crate in honour of its original use.
In the Mack line up was a blue Thomas Mills & Sons removals and storage truck from 1928, complete with hand on a stick turning signals that would pop up on either side of the vehicle when the driver wanted to tell people where they were going.
There were also a couple of Commers, including the Old Blue Commer bought by John and Betty Potter of Gladfield in Queensland in 1971 to transport grain.
Originally manufactured in South Australia by Chrysler it features a six-cylinder Perkins engine, a 5-speed Eaton gearbox and a twospeed differential.
It was lovingly restored by Barry Bruce from 2020 to 2022 and is now owned, and worked on, by Ian “Woody” Woodward.
Along with plenty of classic trucks, the Rocklea Heritage Show also featured a range of fundraising food stalls, trucking paraphernalia and a bar for those keen to catch up and swap stories.
There were trucks from just about every manufacturer, as the pictures will show.

When Auswide Landscape Solutions went digging for the best solution for their tipping needs they unearthed an Isuzu truck or two
Tony Muscara knows which tools are right for the job.
boom, jumping from six jobs a year to an average of 30 jobs a year.
Auswide Solutions' trusty Isuzu is handy on site
Tony Muscara of Auswide Landscape Solutions
The co-director of Auswide Landscape Solutions put his prior experience in the construction and landscaping industry to use when building up his truck fleet.
Fond memories of his tried-and-true classic Isuzu trucks played a role in his OEM of choice.
Alongside business partner Jason Mawer the duo offers landscaping and playgrounds for the childcare industry and since opening the doors back in 2020 have seen business
Key to business success is a well-stocked equipment locker made of up of Isuzu Ready-to-Work Tipper trucks and an Isuzu F Series with a custom tipper body.
“Our Isuzu Tippers are among the most frequently used tools on the job sites. They can get into tighter spots and carry everything we need plus our staff,” Muscara says.
“The multiple uses for our Tippers really highlight the flexibility that Isuzu Trucks delivers.”
These Isuzu trucks are the backbone of the Auswide operation, offering the flexibility to deliver playgrounds, landscaping materials, sand, and staff to location.
The newest edition to the fleet is the FSR 140-260 Auto with a custom tipper body, organised and built by Tony’s Isuzu dealership of choice.
With a nominal load capacity of just over 8,000 kg and a 14,000 kg GVM, the FSR 140260 Auto fulfils Auswide’s need for a larger truck capable of loading pallets, bins, and materials like gravel and sand.
The FSR features a turbocharged Isuzu 6HK1-TCC engine that outputs 191 kW (260 PS) of power and 761 Nm of torque @ 1,450 –2,400 rpm.
Auswide also has a tipper accessible to staff with a standard car licence, choosing the 4.5-tonne GVM NLR 45-150 AMT Tipper from Isuzu's popular Ready-to-Work range.
With a smaller footprint but not lacking in grunt, the NLR Tipper is underpinned by a 4-cylinder 4JJ1-TCS engine providing 110 kW of power (150 PS) at 2,800 rpm and 375 Nm of torque @ 1,600 - 2,800 rpm.
“With Melbourne city traffic, I decided to go with the AMT to prevent clutch breakdown for us and make it easier for navigating congestion on the streets,” Muscara says.
Rounding out the pack is the NMR 60-150 AMT Tri-Tipper, with its 6,000 kg GVM and 8,000 kg GCM (capable of towing up to 4,000 kg), plus 2,895 kg nominal payload.
The narrow-cab workhorse has a two-cubicmetre volume capacity steel body that tips in three directions, supported by multi-leaf rear suspension and an independent wishbone front suspension, which ensures a smoother ride for the driver.
“With the Tri Tipper, there are multiple ways of tipping your load, which gives us options in hard-access areas or awkwardly shaped playgrounds,” he says.
“This is important when you're transporting playground sand; the Tri Tipper doesn't contaminate it like other equipment potentially might — you're still in the truck and can tip it right into the sandpits.”
The no-nonsense approach to building the Auswide fleet with tippers of varying sizes has paid off in terms of project deadlines and productivity for its teams, who are never left waiting for contractors to deliver.
“We don't have to wait for deliveries. That’s
why we've got our own trucks to go and pick up materials,” Muscara says.
“Auswide staff deliver our products, install the play equipment, and then our landscapers finish off the job, giving us quality control from start to finish.
“We manufacture our playgrounds and equipment in-house which helps us maintain quality control and reduce material waste for each job.”.
Since opening doors, the business has branched into Western Australia, New South Wales, and South Australia, and has sights set on Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Tasmania. With an expanding customer base, they might just need to expand the fleet again too.
“We have big plans over the next 12 months,” Muscara says.
“This includes hiring more staff, expanding our equipment lockers and continuing to invest in Isuzu trucks with the support of our dealership.”

You don’t see many of them on the road, but Colin Hillier-Daines wants to rebuild a 1969 Bedford into an art deco truck — one not even he has seen on the streets
Words: Tiane Gavillucci

This truck was born to be a rarity
What the inside used to look like
Colin Hillier-Daines has a unique vision for his 1969 Bedford J1 (as if restoring a vintage rig isn’t unique already), and it’s to transform it into an art deco fuel bowser truck.
“I’ve been to a thousand shows and seen a thousand trucks or more. I've never seen one like the one I’m building up,” he says.
“There's only one I've ever heard of and it’s in a museum in New Zealand.”
By the time Colin found the old Bedford on Facebook Marketplace, it looked like its days of glory were far gone.
Rust ridden and barely running; Colin admits it wasn’t much to look at.
“It was in pretty rough shape,” he says. “It was running, but only just.”
But this project was a blank canvas for Colin, something he had never done before.
“I’ve always been around trucks, and fancied an old rig,” he says.
“Previously I’ve worked on American cars, hot rods, even a bubble top car, but I fancied doing something completely different — which I thought my bubble top car was — but I’ve never done anything like this before.”
Colin originally bought this truck to do his own special thing with it, he knew he wanted to make it into tanker and liked the round shape of the vehicle.
“The next Bedford up from mine is very square shaped, and I didn't want to go too old, because the older you go, the harder it becomes to get parts for,” he says.
The truck came with no papers or written history. All Colin knows is that it somehow made its way from Sydney to Queensland, passed through unknown hands and then landed in Colin’s garage about four years ago.
The restoration process has been quite the journey.
It started off with the basics, stripping the truck down, tidying the engine up and tackling the chassis and body rust.
“I painted everything and tried to make it all look newer, or serviceable at least, and

It took four years to transform this rig
Colin looked at various possible treatments for the back end of the vehicle
It was in pretty bad form when Colin bought it
Slowly coming together
bedded what I needed down,” he says.
The heart of the project lies in the rear of the truck, which doesn’t exist yet.
Colin plans to build a wooden framework and place fibreglass over the top of it, then mould the back into smooth, sweeping curves, echoing a vintage design era.
“I’m really into Texaco,” he says. “On the back I’ve made a slide on camper, so I can take it off and drive with a flatbed truck.”
Colin’s restoration progress however has not been linear. Life, as it tends to, intervened.
After starting the project, his wife was diagnosed with brain cancer and spent a year in hospital, and understandably, not a lot of work was done.
Then came another blow; his son-in-law passed away and his daughter was left grieving.
“They were working on an F100, so I took that into my garage and tidied that up for her,” he says. “What should have been a simple fix, turned out to be a whole new paint job and new engine, but family comes first.”
Today, Colin is nearly ready to drive the Bedford.
“By next week, I should be able to take it for a spin,” he says. “But I hope to have it all up and running by the end of this year.”
So, keep your eyes peeled for this beauty on the road, because trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

A 1972 International Pumper was on its way to the scrapyard before it got saved from the crusher, and turned into a vintage masterpiece
Words: Tiane Gavillucci

A rolling time capsule capturing fire fighting from the past
It was almost cut up for scrap 10 years ago, loaded on the back of a low loader heading to what would have been its final destination.
That’s where Paul Campbell’s story with his 1972 International Pumper C1600 begins — not in a classified ad, or on Facebook marketplace, but right on the brink of the crusher.
“I’ve been in a vintage truck club for years,” he says. “And there was a fellow in it — Paul Harrison, who has now passed away — he had a big transport company in Newcastle, and everyone knew he owned old vehicles.”
“He got a call from the low loader driver, asking if he was interested in the International. He was, so he bought it for peanuts and owned it for a while.
“I’m an ex-firie myself, and told him if he’s interested in selling it, to let me know. Unfortunately, he got sick very quickly and said to me, ‘come pick it up. It’s yours.’ It was then that I started my six-year restoration project on it.”
The truck was once number two off the line from a batch of 15 built for the New South
Wales Fire Brigade by a mob called Presha back in 1972. It went straight into service at the Mortdale Fire Station in Sydney that same year.
Paul even bought the black and white newspaper from the Sydney Morning Herald where he found a photo of that exact truck after it had rolled into Mortdale looking spick and span. After years at Mortdale, the International eventually rotated through the city as a spare. Its last known job was a house fire in Penrith in the late ‘80s.
It was then sold to another company as a firefighting appliance until 2014. After that it was decided that whatever wasn’t bolted down, was off to the scrap.
That was nearly it for the old rig, but fate had its way of bringing it into Paul’s hands and giving it a second chance at life.
“When I got it, it was still operational, but it was pretty rough,” Paul says. “It needed a good paint job and had a bit of panel damage.”
“So, we stripped it down. I wouldn't say to a nut and bolt, though it was pretty close to it.
“It was brought into a workshop to chase out what little rust it had, that way we could have a really good look over it, then paint the panels and rebuild it again.”
The cab was fully repainted, the engine was dyno-tuned to smooth it out, and then began the chase to track down original gear for the restoration.
Rebuilding the truck was one thing but rebuilding it ‘period correct’ along with the fire equipment that goes in it, was a whole different ball game.
“It’s not just restoring the vehicle, but finding the period correct gear that comes with it, so it’s quite a unique restoration,” he says. “The tinkering and fixing up of the old trucks never really ends.”
Joining the Historic Fire Engine Association has made sourcing that equipment a lot simpler. Still not super easy, but definitely easier than doing it privately, especially because where Paul is located in Newcastle, there aren’t a lot of vintage fire engines just hanging around.
So, what do you do with a 50-year-old fire engine once it’s back to looking like it just rolled off the line? You drive it, show it and share it.
“We take it to charity fundraisers, open days, Santa runs, Carols by Candlelight and even bring it around to schools,” he says.
The kids would go mad for it I’m sure, and the firies would love to see an ol’ rig up and at em’.
“I’ve always liked old gear,” Paul says. “I’ve been into trucking for 20-odd years now. I’ve sold and downsized a lot, now this truck is all I have.”
“I’m definitely getting more use out of this truck than anything else I’ve had as far as display purposes go.
“I guess this silly little hobby is quite unique, but I enjoy doing it.”
This truck resurrection was a tribute to a fire brigade era that’s come and gone.
Thanks to Paul, the stories of the past have been kept alive.
From the doom and gloom of the scrapyard to finally showing off at Open Days where smiling faces shine, another vintage vehicle has been rescued and preserved.
And we have two Pauls to thank for that…
Now the truck indulges in shows and open days instead of attending to fires all day
It doesn’t get much better than this — you don’t see trucks like this around these days!
Afte living out a long-time dream of holding a truck show, Tracey Armstrong gives Deals on Wheels a rundown of the inaugural Scenic Rim Truck Show
Words: Tiane Gavillucci

There were Macks, Kenworths, Peterbilts and anything else you could think of
It all started over a drink — as it often does.
Tracey Armstrong’s long simmering dream to hold a truck show sparked over a conversation with her good friend, Janet Smith.
The result? The wheels were finally set in motion and the Scenic Rim Truck Show came to light at last.
“I’ve wanted to run a truck show for years,” Tracey says. “I’ve always had this idea, so over a drink with Janet, we decided to run it together as a team effort, and my dream was created.”
A simple night out, an ambitious idea, and suddenly, Jimboomba had a thundering new event.
There were almost too many trucks to admire!
Despite the weight of months of planning and the moody weather, the day seamlessly came together.
“The days leading up to the show were very stressful due to the weather,” she says. “But it actually went off wonderfully.”
Around 100 rigs rolled into the grounds on May 31, and it was an array of only the best.
“There were Kenworths, Western Star’s,
Corbet’s
About a hundred rigs showed up on the day
Nothing better than a classic white Kenworth
Optimus Prime had its own chance to shine
Knight's Heavy Towing's massive rig was hard to miss
You'd be forgiven for thinking the Fulton Hogan tipper never saw a day of dirt
This unique and vintage vehicle sure turned a few heads

Many trucks and enthusiasts couldn’t make it due to the weather, but still the crowd easily numbered in the thousands and surged through the showgrounds, as seasoned drivers swapped stories and little kids sat perched on shoulders to get a better look at some monster machines.
And although there were sights to behold and roaring sounds that would keep your ears ringing, there was an even bigger purpose behind the day of gleaming chrome and diesel.
A hefty $30,104 was raised toward the KIDS Foundation, with a remarkable $12,830 raised from the auction alone.
“It’s really heart-warming and humbling that we have been able to put on such a great event for the community and to give so much deserved money to a wonderful foundation,” she says.
For Tracey, the most unforgettable moment came quietly, not with the sound of engines or applause, but with a simple look around.
“Seeing all our hard work and effort come together, with all the trucks on the ground and everyone around us having a fabulous time — that was the real reward,” she says.
And the town of Jimboomba felt it too.
“We had so many compliments, I think it meant a lot to our community,” she says. “And people can’t wait for us to do it again next year.”
The Scenic Rim Truck Show will be back again in 2026, with even more horsepower, diesel, and even brighter chrome.

Greater connectivity is enabling eet managers to create a more informative and personalised experience for operators that is designed to simplify onboarding, maximise productivity, reinforce safety and emphasise engagement to improve workforce retention.
Eighty years later, Crown is a widelyrecognised, global material handling equipment manufacturer and technology provider with more than 19,600 employees, serving many of the world’s most recognisable brands and category leaders.
The fourth generation of the Dicke family continues to lead Crown from its global headquarters in New Bremen with regional headquarters in Australia, China, Germany and Singapore. The company provides sales and service through its Crown Li Trucks retail locations and select independent dealers in more than 80 countries.
“I’m honoured to be a part of this company,” Crown Equipment president Jim Dicke III says.
“Since the beginning, Crown has earned a strong reputation for working closely with its customers to enhance e ciency, productivity and safety.

“We could not have reached this point without the support of the communities in which we operate, and our employees, an incredible group of people dedicated to our customers’ success.
“We are excited to continue our legacy for developing innovative technology and equipment that keeps businesses moving around the globe.”
Crown has a long history of exploring and developing advanced technology that has helped direct and de ne the future of material handling.

Customers are identifying and prioritising the type of data they want to gather and establishing a plan and processes to share relevant, timely information with the right departments and individuals at the right time. Data is presented in a manner that makes it actionable to create meaningful operational and behavioural changes.
Companies are looking at innovative power sources for their forkli s to eliminate some of the pain points associated with the lead-acid battery power source. V-Force® Lithium-Ion is one option that o ers a number of productivity, maintenance and operating cost advantages.
