World Languages & Cultures Department

This award is granted to students who show a passion for World Languages and Cultures and outstanding dedication to and achievement in their studies. Daniel Shalam has been in Mandarin since level 2. He has a strong passion for learning Chinese language and culture. From having no knowledge of Chinese at all, his grandfather, who is a quarter Chinese, is proud of him today. Dan's attitude toward learning is always ready for action. His love for food has been a great motivation for him to learn about Chinese culture. Not only does he enjoy learning the Chinese language, but he also has an interest in Chinese history. As a result, his perspective on the world has expanded and he has a better appreciation of his identity and the vision he has for his future.
