The eleventh-grade Love of Learning Award for Music goes to a student who arrived at each rehearsal with genuine eagerness and energy, whether it was during second period or the end of the day. Her upbeat demeanor highlighted a true love of music, while her powerful voice displayed talent for it. As a member of both the Concert Chorus and Select Chorus, this singer mastered challenging harmonies, and was also comfortable taking center stage with her beautiful performance at the Music Showcase. Always looking to challenge herself to be the strongest musician she can be, the recipient of the eleventh grade award for Love of Learning for Music is Olivia Drummond.

Never wanting to be the center of attention, the recipient of the eleventh-grade Academic Excellence Award for Music is a student that is the model for excellence in music. Chris Hong received perfect scores on NYSSMA evaluations, which allowed him acceptance into the prestigious All-State Symphonic Orchestra. After a stunning performance in December with the best musicians in New York state, he was then invited to perform with the highest ensemble in the county available to him at the "All-Eastern" festival. There, Chris played in a symphonic band that included musicians from thirteen states as well as Europe. While he is truly a model musician, what stands out is his humility and his desire to help those around him be better. He is an invaluable member of the Portledge Concert Band and a student who has as much character as he does musical talent. The Music Department proudly awards the Academic Excellence for Music distinction to Chris Hong.
