The tenth-grade Love of Learning Award for Music goes to a student who enjoyed every moment of rehearsals and performances. This student brought a positive spirit to class meetings, consistently lifting up those around her. As a member of the Select Chorus, this singer demonstrated a strength for music arrangement, often creating harmonies for her fellow altos or even suggesting a brief tempo change to strengthen a piece. Her persistence on a particular song recommendation resulted in an impressive finale at the Spring Concert, and her lead vocals at the Upper School Black History Month Town Meeting left many in the audience in tears. The recipient of the tenth grade award for Love of Learning for Music is Joie Jean-Paul.

The Academic Excellence Award for Music in the tenth grade goes to a student who demonstrated performance of the highest caliber all year while working on technically and musically demanding pieces in her ensemble. Never shying away from a challenge, this musician always took it upon herself to learn her parts quickly for her band class and helped the group make it through extremely difficult pieces. Leading by example in the flute section, this musician stood out by not only playing flute and piccolo, but also humbly accepting roles that required her to support the ensemble. Her acceptance to the 2023 Nassau AllCounty Ensemble coupled with her recent All State NYSSMA scores of 99 and 100 demonstrate her ability to perform at the highest level. It is with pleasure that the Music Department awards the tenth-grade Academic Excellence Award to Madison Cohen.
