Tenth-GradeScienceLoveofLearning LUCASBURACHIO

This Portledge sophomore has acted with independence and confidence in Research Methods, studying probiotic bacterial growth when exposed to acids. He set up an incubator and quickly worked through pilot studies to find an effective method. He produced valid data and applied interesting imaging techniques for analysis. In working so diligently, he inspired his classmates. This year's tenth-grade Love of Learning Award in Science goes to Lucas Burachio.

This year’s tenth-grade award for academic excellence is given to an engaged and talented student, who is curious about all topics that come up in his science courses. From the very first day of Advanced Chemistry, he has remained engaged and actively involved in our classwork and discussions. He has continued his development as a thoughtful and diligent worker in the laboratory, who makes detailed observations and follows instructions carefully. He works well during collaborative work with all of his classmates, always willing to help his classmates and contribute valuable questions and comments to our discourse. He has excelled in all aspects of the course, maintaining an average well above 90% for both semesters. In Research Methods, he tackled a college-level question on the behavior of semiconductors exposed to ionizing radiation. He made a sophisticated oral presentation at the Portledge Science Symposium to an appreciative audience. In addition, he is a genuinely wonderful young man who cares about his classmates and school. This year’s tenth-grade Academic Excellence Award in Science goes to Ajay Khandelwal.
