Science Department

This student contacted the faculty months before beginning his freshman year as a new Portledge student. During that time, he contemplated a science project in detail, and when the opportunity arose to pursue it, he was well prepared. His work with computers and artificial intelligence is extraordinary, and he made an oral presentation at the Portledge Science Symposium, a rare accomplishment for a freshman. He is generous with his time, and has often stepped up to help his classmates with their computer programming problems. This year’s ninth-grade Love of Learning Award in Science goes to Rowan Shenoy.

With a calm confidence, exemplary work ethic, and keen attention to detail, this student has performed outstandingly throughout the course of this entire year in Advanced Biology. She remains humble despite her many talents - always setting a positive example for her peerswhile serving as a leader in the classroom. Quick to pick up concepts and often willing to delve deeper into the content, her work consistently reflected her diligent effort, mastery of the material, and genuine desire to produce work of very high quality. She arrived to class each day with a seriousness of task, but also brought humor and enthusiasm to make for a dynamic and enjoyable experience for all. This year’s ninth-grade Academic Excellence Award in Science goes to a true gem, Olga Markovic.
