My advice is: "Go outside, to the fields, enjoy nature and the sunshine, go and try to recapture happiness in yourself and in God. Think of all the beauty that's still left in and around you and be happy." ... And whoever is happy will make others happy too. He who has courage and faith will never perish in misery.

I have journeyed to the rainbow's end and have not found gold, but you, my friends.

I think what we have on our hands is a dead shark.

Imaginative power can provide a short cut for escaping the trammels of our mundane life and for seeing the Buddha. If we are endowed with a rich, turbulent imagination, we can focus our attention on a single lotus flower and from there we can spread out to infinite horizons.

Yukio Mishima, from "The Priest of the Shiga Temple and his Love"

All alone or in twos the ones who really love you walk up and down outside the wall. Some hand in hand, some gathered together in bands the bleeding hearts and artists make their stand. It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of art

The most startling and rather alarming thing was to be in a great production car like this with a speedometer that goes to 170 m.p.h. and a rev counter that goes to 7000 rpm, and see both the speedometer and the tachometer needles slowly but surely crawl right off the dial . . . both dials it was astonishing. The Miracle is this The more we share The more We have.

Then one day the boy came to the tree and the tree said, "Come, Boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy."

"I am too big to climb and play," said the boy.

I want to buy things and have fun.

I want some money.

Can you give me some money?''

''I'm sorry," said the tree. "but I have no money.

I have only leaves and apples.

Take my apples, Boy, and sell them in the city. Then you will have money and you will be happy.'

BILL, MALT, and SCOTTIE in their PINK PANTS, went driving up to the BEACH. On the way up, they saw a sign that read DON'T GO ON THE FREEWAY.

"JE NE SAIS PAS what that says," said Scottie.

Bill told them what it said and took a detour. As they drove down the road, they saw a GROOVEY advertisement for the BUGSA BOOMERANG Ranch. No longer in the mood for the beach, but for eating cereal and being western, they decided to check it out.

Boyd Douglas Power

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

The first thing to learn in intercourse with others is non-interference with their own peculiar ways of being happy, provided those ways do not assume to interfere by violence with ours. No one has insight into all the ideals. No one should presume to judge them offhand. The pretension to dogmatize about them in each other is the root of most human injustices and cruelties, and the trait in human character most likely to make the angels weep.

There is no secret and there is no defense; there is no possibility of control except through the aroused understanding and insistence of the peoples of the world.

TO PARAPHRASE THE IMMORTAL WORDS OF RALPH KRAMDEN -

SO ARE YOU KATIE

Congratulations Heather! We wish you well as you embark on new adventures.

The great things of life are what they seem to be and for that reason strange as it may sound to you are often very difficult to interpert.

Great passions are for the great of soul and great events can only be seen by those who are on a level with them. We think we can have our visions for nothing. We cannot.

Even the finest and self-sacrificing visions have to be paid for.

Strangely enough that is what makes them fine.

Oscar Wilde

As you and your class have grown we know we have also grown. We will definitely miss you - your aliveness and stimulations.

In fond memory of Bruce E. Collins

Leonard Skynard's Free Bird

If I leave here tomorrow Would you still remember me? for I must be travelling on now, ;, 'Cause there's too many places I've got to see. But if I stayed here with you girl, Well things just couldn't be the same. 'Cause I'm free as a bird, now, And this bird you '11 never change. And this bird you cannot change And this bird you cannot change Lord Knows, I can't change.

Class of '86

Bye, Bye, baby it's been a sweet love. Though this feeling I can't change. But, please don't take it so badly, 'Cause the Lord knows I'm to blame. If I stayed here with you now, Things just couldn't be the same. 'Cause I'm free as a bird, now How 'bout you?

And this bird they'll never change And this bird you cannot change And this bird you cannot change Lord help me, I can't change. Lord, I can't change. Won't you fly high, Oh, free bird.
