Polystudents packed their schedules in the summer of 2015 with music festivals, work, sleep, and hanging out with friends as they spent three months outside of the classroom. Some students even preferred to adventure out of their comfort zone and spend their summer in different countries. Various GIP trips were offered this past summer, allowing students to visit Iceland, Peru, and many other service opportunities around the globe. All in all, this past summer Poly students ventured to meet new people and expand their knowledge of new cultures.

fT1his year, the ASB focused on policy meant to reinforce our def ini.tional understanding of community. We took 1 a hard look at traditions. We worked to develop the relationship between students and faculty. We tried new games and systems, with varying success. But we lean1ed from each success and each failure an important lesson about the importance of interdependence. We acted primarily along with the school, because we were elected to serve the school. We engaged students in important conversations about school policy, and we worked to make the community's vision for Poly a reality.

Student Athletic Leadership Council

"SALC is a committee that meets once a month to organize ways to promote sportsmanship, service, and pride through sports in the Poly community. SALC puts together school-wide events like pep rallies, service days, guest speakers, and Lower, Middle, and Upper school events to create an atmosphere dedicated to good sportsmanship on and off the field."

Poly Arts Student Council

"PASC is dedicated to sharing and celebrating both visual and performing arts. Throughout the year we hold 5th Quarters, visual art shows, collaborations with Hillsides and many more events. Not only do we promote art within the Poly community, but also within the Los Angeles area. We want to give students a greater understanding of art and ·what it means to be an artist."

Ambassador Council

"As we gathered at the leadership retreat this past summer, the Ambassador Council developed goals for the upcoming year. Our goals included further diversifying our school by reaching out to more schools in and around the Los Angeles area, and improving communication between the council and ambassadors by creating a pod system. Our pod system allows ambassadors of all grades to communicate directly with certain council members, ensuring that ambassadors are reminded about events they signed up for."

Peer Mentors

"The goal of peer mentors is to be good role models and to ensure the freshmen have an easy transition into the High school. By encouraging the class to come together in advisory groups, clubs and through various fun games, the seniors help the freshmen navigate the day to day life at Poly."

Mens Service League

''This year, the MSL has really focused on playing a larger role in the community, beyond simply raising money for charities and promoting upperclassmenunderclassmen bonds. One such effort was the MSL-GSL families we created with the GSL. Through various fw1d-raisers, MSL has been raising money for the Hillsides' Youth Moving On organization."

Girls Service League

"The Girls Service League is the oldest organization on the Poly campus. Every year our focus is to raise money for a local non-profit chosen by the cabinet. This year we decided to support the Elizabeth House, a nonproxtit in Pasadena that houses women who are pregnant or have small children coming from abusive homes or no home at all. ln addition to raising money for the Elizabeth House, the GSL organizes activities and events for females on campus. Morning Meeting and Assembly are important parts to the weekly rhythm at Poly. Any student can make an announcement regarding community service, club, or class activities. Often, speakers are brought in to share their professions and stories. Over the years, there have been many visitors who have made their mark in the lives of Poly students. This year, Alepho Deng was one of those speakers. A Lost Boy from the Sudan refugee crisis, he received a standing ovation after his speech -a testimony to the large impact he had on the student body. Most Morning Meetings end with ASB President Nikolas Angelopoulos picking a name out of the bucket and encouraging the student body to say something nice about that person. This activity leaves students on a happy note and a sense of community and togetherness.

T his year, the freshmen trips consisted of backpacking in Escalante, mountain biking in Mammoth, fly fishing in Mammoth, sustainable living on Jameson Ranch, and sailing at Catalina Island. The Outdoor Education progran1 at Poly puts students who are used to sitting in a classroom all day out to explore nature. The trip to Escalante took the largest group of students, and as one students says, "The best part was probably sleeping under the stars with my friends at night." The 1nountain biking trip took students to Man1moth, and many agree that the best part of the trip was flying down the mountain. The fly fishing trip also took students to Mam1noth where they spent the time relaxing by the lake. Jameson Ranch taught the students to live on a farm and make food for themselves, and students became comfortable with nature. Finally, Catalina island taught students kayaking in the ocean, proving to be an arduous journey. In all, these trip were all amazing and provided the students with a fun break from school, bonding with friends and educational adventures.

Day hiking in Zion National Park was awe-inspiring and allo\ved students to really experience natures beautiful landscapes. The surfing trip took students for the ride of their lives and biking in Zion National Park bonded students together while navigating the routes. Kayaking in the Channel Islands was amazing and showed students the beauty of the Pacific. Finally, California Coastal biking was one of the hardest trips for the sophomores, yet being around campfires at night helped thmn share those great experiences.

Each year the junior class heads to the Klamath River for a rafting trip. Despite the tradition of the entire class going to Northern California, juniors also had the option of going on a second trip along the Green River in Utah. About a dozen students embarked into the unknown, while the rest of the junior class headed to the Klamath. On the Klamath trip, students spent a week navigating the river in four-person rafts. They learned to work together as teams, as they often had to brave the dangerous rapids and cook meals together. On the Green River trip, students spent seven days in two-person canoes. Though never faced with rapids, the pairs had to learn to be in sync to efficiently navigate the river. Through the relaxing experiences as well as the more challenging ones, the two groups had a wonderful time and left each river with memories that will last forever.

"I'll miss the dance team so much. These girls worked their butts off all season and have consistently been supportive, loving, and overall wonderful. The team bonded so well this year, and I'm just so proud of their work and the people they are becoming. I couldn't have asked for a better final year at Poly."

Brenda Chen '16

"Being a senior kind of snuck up on me, I remember being a freshman and looking up to the older girls; now I'm in that role and although it's scary sometimes, it's very rewarding. Dance Team is a family that I will miss greatly next year. I know they'll do even better next year."

" The amount of work each girl has put in on the pool deck during dryland and in the pool has contributed to our success as a unit. The work we all put in together made us the strong team we are. We encourage each other to strive for our best and to have fun doing it!"

" This year was an incredible season for the girls and I couldn't be more / 1 proud of them. We have grown as a team, not only skill-wise, but also closer as a whole in general. I loved playing alongside these hard-working people, and it was so inspiring to see such desire and dedication to improving both individually and as a team. The best part of the season was seeing tremendous imrpovement, which I know could not have happened without the support and encouragement from each other."

"Being on the team for four years I've seen different coaches, opponents, and new teammates come and go. But this season I think we had the strongest freshman team I've ever seen. They're more passionate, more committed, and more spirited than I can say for myself when I was a freshman. With the help of our great coaches, we've become a promising team with a great chance of Huccess. In the coming winter season,

"The season has been different due to the small number of experienced Varsity fencers. However. we also have a lot of sophmores on Varsity and they have risen to the challenge and made a lot of improvments. AE ever, the tournaments have been really fun. 'With the declining number of upperclassmen on the team, it's nice to see the new influx of fr es hmen and even sophomores on this team. There's a ton of young potential on the track and field team right now, so every meet will only get better."

- Tim Krasnoperov '16

'We had a really special track team this year because we had a lot of inexperience and youth. It was amazing to see freshmen going toe to toe with seniors and even beating them in track meets. Overall, everyone's hard work really paid off, and we enjoyed a great season."

- Ryan Casey '16

'We had a really young group of athletes this year, and it was fun to see people developing and thriving. Track is a lot more of a team sport than people realize, and this team got along very well and is a lot of fun to be around. The team has a bright future ahead."

- Conor Xanders '16

"I was very happy to see so many freshmen join the team, and they were all very courageous and pushed themselves at every meet. I enjoyed watching them improve so much throughout the season, and I am positive that the team will be even stronger next year."

Machinal, by Sophie Treadwell, is an Expressionistic play written in the 1920s. Treadwell was an early feminist and tangled with the limited options open to women in her time, using the style of Expressionism in her play to help make her point. The scenes progress through a young woman's life, from work, to marriage, to motherhood, and then too quickly, almost inevitably, to death. The theatrical form of Expressionism sprang out of the Visual Arts movement of the same name, in which artists distorted reality in order to reveal an inner emotional state. The look is angular and hard, also expressing the fear of the growth of technology. The cast includes 12 Upper School actors and 1 student director, supported by a Tech Crew managing set construction, lighting design, and sound design.

r]lhis year's musical, Hairspray, was a great experience 1 for the cast, crew, and orchestra! With a student group of 85 cast of 66, crew of ll, orchestra of 8 -- it was quite a fabulous group activity, starting with auditions in January through the striking of the set in May. While many were familiar with the movie version of the musical, the students spent the first weeks reading through the script and bal4.tv /d8e335b2 discovering the story anew. The story follows Tracy Turnblad, a young girl whose passion for dancing gets her a spot on the dance show despite being bullied by the other dancers (and producer) for being overweight. Aside from dance, With the help of our talented directors Cynthia Crass, Danielle Pigneri, and Tina Cocumelli, the cast was well prepared for a chance to share their hard work with the community.

I, along with my friends, did not want to go back to our seats, so I remember that Morgan we stayed and played with the beanbag chairs for a few Kail- Ackerman more minutes. That didn't end well. We had to sit at opposite ends of the room and have a timeout because we were acting bratty! I remember being super annoyed because I didn't want to go to class and just wanted to play with beanbag chairs. It was worth it!"

For more than half my life, Poly has been a constant. This is by no means a bad thing, and it would be a lie to say that it hasn't shaped who I am today. While we all now move in different directions, and the part of our lives which is Poly wanes smaller and smaller, I hope that we can all remember a few things. First, this community always has been, and always will be here for you. Second, everyone here will become something great, and keeping these connections strong will, I'm sure, prove interesting. Finally, no matter how many years you attended (be it 13, 7, or 4), Poly is sure to have created enough memories to last a lifetime. I'd like to thank everyone here in past, present, and future knowing well that they'll remember this time as some of the best of their lives.

Thank you for the sticky notes, the nicknames, and the scary movies Your enthusiasm and zeal to achieve great things will carry you far, so play your cards right, and don't let anything bring you down. Go get 'em brother. l '

To the Fencers: As I step down from grand leader, Mark, Maya, Alexandra, and Gwen are your captains now. Listen to them. Yale, I'm watching you. ) Also, I still want my mask mounted on the wall I promise I'll visit.

To my Friends, Teachers, and Coaches: Thank you for wisdom, your quirks, and your lessons. Thank you for the music, the knowledge, and the strength I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you for the rides home, the cheese delivery, the Mario Kart races, the Kindle, the humor on the bad 1 days, the praise on the good ones, the earl grey ice cream, the late night chats, and the kindness that got me through each day. You all know who I you are.

To my 86 friends in the Class of 2016, it took me 14 years of my life to finally meet all of you. Now, after four years it's time to say goodbye. In the future, from time to time, if fate allows, I hope our paths will cross once more. I would like to see all of you again.

To my fellow actors in the Winter Play, especially Ellie McAfee and Aisling Murran, thank you for giving me the freedom to explore and express my creative self. You all have helped me discover a part of myself I never knew I possessed. I have always enjoyed our rehearsals, our warm up games, our performances together; you have given me much laughter and fun both on and off the stage. Those evenings and afternoons I have spent with all of you were some of the happiest I have had in a very long time.

Kindness, Honesty, Humility, Integrity, Love, Compassion, Generosity, Respect, Fairness, Peace, Open-Heartedness, Loyalty, Friendship, Acceptance, Courage

I have tried every day of my life to live up to these values and so many more, but I have failed countless times. But never do I stop trying. All I ask is that we continue to try together and help each other discover the good that lies within us all.

IS OUR CHOICES THAT SHOW WHAT WE TRULY ARE, . FAR MORE THAN THINGS WE LOSE HAVE A WAY OF COMING BACK TO US IN THE END, IF NOT ALWAYS IN THE WAY WE EXPECT

Conor, although your journey has not always been easy, you have treated adversity as a reason to build character, not sacrifice it. We are extremely proud of the fine young man you've become. We love you very much. Congratulations on this important milestone.

The night after Dad left this earth, I looked in to the darkness and wondered how I would raise you on my own to be the man we hoped you would be. But the darkness soon gave way to light that revealed I was not alone; through faith, and with family, friends, teachers, coaches (and, yes, football), you have become a man who has surpassed our greatest hopes and expectations.

Though I am the parent, you often guide me towards greater patience, tolerance, and forgiveness. You are a scholar and a gentleman, a leader and a follower of what is right, and I know that as you leave here and go out in to the world , you will continue to make it a better place.

We have always believed a yearbook is much more than pictures and captions,· to us, a yearbook holds memories of the laughs with friends, celebrations with teammates, and performances with artists. In this we hope you find your own memories, whether they be Joyous or embarrassing.

Poly's environment is one that fosters growth and development - its effects extend past the classroom to the fields, courts, stages, and canvases. Whether pre-k or ninth we have always left the year wiser and more prepared for the tasks we will face in the future None of this could have happened without the aid and support of the wonderful faculty and staff of this school.

We spent countless hours on this yearbook making sure that it is a memento that can be looked at two days after the school year ends or 25 years later. We hope that all Polytechnic students have a chance to look back at this keepsake and remember their fond memories that were shared within this fine community. These years go by quicklu and once they have passed we can only look back and reminisce.

We would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to our dedicated staff We would not have been able to finish this book without your assistance. Along with our staffers, our Jennifer Godwin-Minto, has bem a key supporter and adviser. With her dedication and passion pushing us, we were able to make the be1; possible yearbook. Even we are surprised at how patient you can be with us.

AnJther person who deserves our recognition and thanks is Leslie Carmell. Constantly proofreading our sp eads and checking them for accuracy is a behind -the -scenes but we cannot thank you enough for tht: tremendous amount of help. Also, to Corey our Balfour publishing thank you forworking with us and adjusting to our hectic schedule. We appreciate your willingness to adapt so we produce the best yearbook possible.

Pirallu thank you to every single member of the Polytechnic community. Without yo14 there would be no dawes, games, or morning meetings. Without yo14 there would be no memories.

Thtnk you for making these past years an incredible J·ourneu and we wish you the best of luck going forvard.

"If endings symbolize beginnings, shouldn't the goodbyes be easier to say?" I am grateful for the collective wisdom, experience, and camaraderie of so many outstanding colleagues at Poly who have inspired me and generously supported me in my work with students. I have been blessed to work with such bright, talented, and engaging students and to watch with pride as they launch toward adulthood. And while the college admissions process is rife with the potential for disappointment and frustration, I have been fortunate to have had the support and trust of so many wonderful parents and families. I am going to miss this place - and all of you who have made it home for me. Thank you for loving me, supporting me, and literally helping me to raise my family these past 16 years. As AA Milne once wrote in Winnie-the-Pooh, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."

xo- Alice Cotti

It is virtually impossible to encapsulate how thankful I am having had the opportunity to be a part of Polytechnic School for ten years. Although I am leaving, I carry with me a treasure of beautiful memories; you and this place will always be with me and occupy a special place in my heart. My hope is that I have given each of you but a fraction of the love you have given me. For if that is the case, then we are all rich beyond our wildest dreams. I am truly blessed to have been a part of this experience, our experience, and I thank you from the deepest recesses of my soul for allowing me to share my life with you and for sharing your lives with me. Because of you I am a wiser teacher and a more compassionate and thoughtful human being. Thank you for everything!

Dear Students and Colleagues, After 26 years at Poly, it will be a tearful goodbye in June. I have received from all of you as much as I have given, and there will always be a bond between us. Keep smiling, and keep science alive! What you have learned at Poly may someday inspire you to make the world a better place. With great affection, - Ellen Santochi

Saying goodbye is something I do not like to say. I prefer to say see you next time. I cannot thank the Poly community enough for welcoming me and my family four years ago. Poly will always be a special place to me. It is the place I grew to become a mother for the first time with the birth of my daughter, Quinn. Thank you to my colleagues and students who have been so gracious in supporting me during such an important time in my life. In the the words of Mr. Rogers, " I like you just the way you are". Stay true to yourselves and enjoy eve:ry minute of your life. Take time to be in the moment and not be too worried about the future. It will all be okay. Until next time
