Considering the number of different species on this planet, the chances of being born a human being are about one in two billion. What is most astounding of all, however, is the absence of human awareness ove1· the phenomenal triumph over impossible odds that a single human being represents. Human beings have been able to comprehend everything in the world except their own uniqueness. Perhaps it is just as well. If ever we begin to contemplate our own composite wonder, we will lose ourselves in celebration and have time for nothing else.

Varsity basketball this year was successful, yet frustrating. After a slow start, Poly picked up steam after Christmas break and headed into league play ranked third in C.I.F. with a 12-4 record. But a series of heartbreaking losses left Poly with only a 3-3 league record, and a lost coin flip eliminated the team from the playoffs. However, Poly was left with a 16- 7 record, a fifth place ranking in C.I.F., and its pride.

The JV had a tremendous season, capturing the league championship with a 6-0 league record, 15- 7 overall.
