WILLIS STORK HEADMASTER

To the Poly students:

Once there was a well-known restaurant in Hollywood which had this message over its entrance: " Through This Portal Pass the Most Beautiful Girls in the World." Poly might well paraphrase this expression and say, "Through these doors pass the best students in the world." I do not inten"d to use the word "students" exclusively in the scholarship sense, although, of course, academically you take a back seat to few, if any schools; by students I mean people, and as such you are without comparison anywhere. I respect you and I am devoted to you for your loyalty, sense of fair play, friendship, serious approach to school work, good behavior, love of fun, and general wholesomeness. Because you are so wonderful, I am confident that your future will be happy and bright, and that is my wish wherever you may be.

ALEXANDER B. BABCOCK

ASSISTANT HEADMASTER

DIRECTOR OF THE UPPER SCHOOL

This year has been a particularly interesting and gratifying one for me. If someone had told me five years ago, when' the present senior class an 'd I were "eighth graders" together, that the class would go on to earn the honors and distinctions which have been bestowed upon it, I'm sure I would have had a hard time believing it. Yet over and above the individual honors of National Merit and phenomenal College Board scores, the class as a group has made valuable contributions to the school, and even with college just around the corner, has maintained its position of concerned leadership.

Congratulations to Heidi and her hard-working staff for this fine yearbook; and to her and the rest of the seniors go my best wishes for continued success.

The Independent League Forum, started four year's ago by Stu Korshak, now includes Poly, Flintridge, and Westridge. This years ILF was successful primarily through the efforts of Richard Parry, Flintridge's Student Body President, and Poly's own President, Do by Fleeman. Highlights of the year include two ILF dances in addition to Flintridge's Homecoming Dance, which featured the Wizard Light Show, and an inter-school Dating Game. There were also several exchange days on which representatives from Poly visited the other member-schools, while girls from Westridge and Flintridge's boys spent the day at Poly.

The Girls' Service League, open to all girls in the upper school, has had a most successful year. President Kathee Jones has done a marvelous job of getting the League "back on its feet" and on its way to worthwhile contributions.

In addition to its usual school functions, this year G.S.L. has been affiliated with the Head Start program of Pasadena, providing a Christmas party for underprivileged children. The League also supplied Christmas trees and distributed food to many families through the All-Saints Church of Pasadena.

As a benefit for the American Field Service, G . S.L. again sponsored the annual fashion show in March, and along with the Varsity Club it has sold refreshments at all the home games.

All in all, Kathee ' s enthusiasm has reactivated an organization that girls are proud to be a part of; an organization dedicated to school and community service.

Secretary Cathy Andrews, Treasurer Sally Ellis, Vice-President Gaby Schlueter, President Kathee Jones

A Christmas pinata highlights the party.

IMAGERY

lmagerv is an honest magazine which depends upon contributed articles and is published using facilities at Poly. This year's Imagery enjoyed a very limited success because of a lack of student interest and faculty approval. Poly 's students do not seem to realize the tremendous privilege it is to be able to express an opinion. Perhaps future classes will not enjoy this privilege.

In recent years, the Downbeat has been only partially successful both in the quantity of issues produced and in the quality of the material. This year, however, the Downbeat had two co-editors. Colin Barnett managed the school-related news and production of the paper, w bile Richard Margolin handled an expanded editorial and opinion section. With the help of an excellent staff, Richard and Colin were able to turn out three fine issues in one semester.

This year's Nonesuch was described by its editor, Eileen Cooley, as "an attempt to encourage creativity among the students." The" Lit. Mag." was successful, as a tremendous quantity of material was contributed. The majority of the material came from work done for Mr. Manley's new Writer's Workshop.

The Oakleaves staff wish to extend their thanks to all who facilitated the production of our yearbook. We owe thanks to Mr. Wilber Loe, of the American Yearbook Company, for his guidance, and of course to Mrs. Moses, our faculty advisor, who was invaluable for her patience and sound advice. We would especially like to thank Coach Dan Lichty and John Thomas for their help with our sports division, and Marcy Amos, to whom we are indebted for her talented adaption of our cover design.
