Fridays at 10:30 are a welcome reprieve from the tedious work week. For one hour each week , the who le community comes together to watch anything from hypnotists to Chinese acrobats. The ASB does an excellent job bringing in speakers that the who le Upper School will enjoy. Some of the most popular assemblies this year have included a school
wide carolling session to celebrate the com ing winter break, a speaker from a local food bank, an author of a best-selling novel, and who can forget the all school assemblies where the cheer leaders perform and Mrs. Reed talks about her love of community. All in all, assemblies are a great way to bring the Upper School closer together.

• So we hear you have a boyfriend back home, what does he think of your year abroad?
Well, we have been in a relationship for about 2yrs and Smo. I think he is kind of jealous when he sees pictures of me on Facebook because he really would love to be here in the US.
• What does he think aobut all the friends you have made?
It's weird for him to see me with so many girls because in Germany, I hang out mostly with guys.
• What has been your favorite thing about staying with the McConnell family?
I just love sitting together at dinner and talking about our days. We never have time to just "talk" in Germany. Oh and Mrs McConnell's lasagna; she makes an amazing lasagna.
• What fun things have you done so far this year?
I went to a Rose Bowl game (my first American football game ever!), and it was incredible! During Halloween we went to Universal Studios and I almost got killed by zombies in a maze. Oh and we have been to the beach so many times. The beach is well, so California.
• What is the best part about going to school at Poly.
Although it is way harder than I expected, the teachers are so nice and the classes are small. Also, I really enjoyed being part of the dance show. I thought I wouldn't have a chance to be on the stage in the US, but this was an amazing opportunity. Lastly, what is with all of these boys and their high socks?! Boys in Germany would never wear socks that high!

In the math classes at Poly, each day presents a new challenge, whethe r it be a simple ca lcu lation or complex equation Every day b r ing s a new lesson for students to learn with the help of their teachers. At Poly, the students and faculty are a team who wor k toge t her to so lve li fe's complicated problems. With a burning passion to succeed and overcome obstacles, students and faculty are part of a bigger community who strives to achieve success. With the long bunches of numbe r s and variables streaming down pages, students can find them selves lost within the jungles of math's complex ity; however, teachers assist the br illiant minds of stu dent s, and toge t her, they develop solutions to every prob lem.
Numbers and le tte r s are so simp le a lone , but together they become a strenuous and confusing monster. T hey grind down and st imula te the young minds of students, and teachers at Poly help deve lop and mold the mind to f ight off the beast and lead students t o su ccess. The foundat ions in ba t tling and solving mathemat ical prob lems carry on to the outside lives of stude nts, where they apply the same concepts in tackling problems that occur in the ir da ily l ives. Math class e s at Poly no t only teach students the brilliance and power of numbers and the integr i ty of math but also lays a foundation for students to succeed and gives them a character to work hard i n finding a solution.

Dear Orianna:
You are compassionate, intelligent, and beautiful. Every time we talk to you, you take our breath away with your insightfulness, the depth of your kindness, your "you." This essence animates you. You have been endowed with these gifts. Embrace them, honor them, hone them, especially because the world is about to open up for you. Embrace the excitement and the challenge. The most important thing is not to be afraid. So step up, step out- be it with people, experiences, or opportunities. Don't be afraid to fall or fail. We will always be here to support you, but we trust your strength and resilience to pick yourself up.
We are proud of you and love you very much!

Dear Reader:
Poly is more than just a school. It's all about the snacks in the commons, the late nights and the early mornings, the ping pong during free periods, the grade versus grade rivalries, and the connections between students and teachers. Poly wouldn't be Poly without all of the memories and individuals that walk this campus. and in order to capture the year, we really had to capture the school; therefore this year's theme and book was truly All About Poly.
We first of all would like to thank our new, but incredibly dedicated Advisors Ms. Barnes and Mr. Barry. Without their presence during numerous yearbook weekends, attention to detail, and pivotal guidance, we could never have completed this yearbook. We cannot thank them enough, and for us seniors that are leaving, we wish them the best of luck next year!
Behind the scenes, we thank Jennifer Godwin-Minto for the majority of the photographs in this album. Also, we are incredibly indebted to our Publishing Representative Corey Mundwiler, who makes nightmares disappear and miracles happen.
And finally we thank you, the student, the parent, the teacher, and the family friend, for without your support we could not have funded such a feat, and without your presence Poly truly wouldn't be what it is today. As much as this book is All About Poly, it is very much All About You.
From Kelly and Catherine: Our goal two years ago was to change the face of the Poly yearbook and really turn it into something that did more than just display a year through pictures. We have truly come a long way, and we appreciate the support of our friends, our families, and the faculty who helped us along the way to make this into something we are truly proud of. We wish Kaitlyn and Stephanie the best of luck next year to raise the bar and create another memorable album.
