The Witness , pokes fun at the breeding ground of scandal we Poly. We are a tight knit community where tabloidesque rumors can explode like gas tanks in an inferno of gossip. Oakleaves 1999 has chosen to illuminate the enormous humor in this reality.

"Oh no! The Poly Panther Club's game schedule sign was stolen! How will we be able to inform our fans about the Poly atheletic games?" the Panthers wonder. Please help us get it back before we lose all of our fans! "Those houlligans stole our ping-pong paddles!" Leigh signs. Now what will the seniors do during their free periods? Help us find them!

GRRRRRRR! Paul and Leigh, the Mascots, found a gut wrenching sight at the Polytechnic School; their Panther Lair was robbed of so many important Poly artifacts! As Leigh cried in the courtyard, Paul swore to her that he would find the culprits of such a heinous crime. Paul requests that the readers of The Witness search from high to low, from Sports to Faculty, and from Arts to Clubs to relocate the stolen items. The Panthers believe the thieves may very well be some of their own beloved students who just want a bit of Poly history. "You just don't know how much some of these things mean to us!" Leigh mimed. "I just don't know how I can go on!" gestured Paul. So , the search is on! Find these lost items and you will be rewarded by two very happy and purring Panthers!

Paul has lost all hope for finding his beloved Pinky and the Brain statue. Without the inspiration of these two critters, Paul isn't sure if he 'II be able to pass AP Biology! "For the sake of my education, bring the mice home!" Paul motions.

Pasadena, Ca: Foreign Exchange Student falls victim to bitter wrath of mistreated hose-master.

Tragically, a f oreign exchange student from Indonesia who recently began attending Polytechnic School no longer sees America as the land of oportunity he once thought it to be. He came to this country with dreams of Mickey Mouse and Epcot Center, only to be swept into a world of brutal assault. Derek-lkameritsu Yu ' s body was found soaked and

the Boswell Courtyard here at Poly. Allegedly, Derek - lkameritsu had been taunting the bitter maintenance man, not knowing the powers of the perilous hose he held.

Whe.n interviewed in his hospital bed last weekend, lkameritsu Yu stated, "Aaiya, he was so violent, this hose man ... he towered above me. He was at least eighty feet tall. I was impressed by his powerful force." When we asked Derek - lkameritsu Yu whether or not he planned to continue attending Polytechnic School, he replied, "Aaiya." Authorities are still searching for Yu ' s assailant. Upon questioning, Poly representative T revor Schwertz commented, "It's a shame to see such blatant mistreatment of foreign ambassadors to our nation. I liked Derek - lkameritsu Yu, he was a handsome devil."

The recent discovery by a maintenance worker of a disturbed young man with a grotesque and abnormally large amount of body hair living in the bushes here on the Poly campus has been linked to the ongoing disappearance of staplers, paper clips, and other shiny objects from classrooms. Researchers from Caltech have confirmed that this wily beast, whose diet seems to consist of grilled cheese sandwiches from the lunch truck and stolen jolly Ranchers from Ms. Pixton's room, is of human origin. When asked the most plausible explanation for this bizarre mutation, Caltech professor and resident expert on freakish gnomes, Wizzo Tate replied, "His physique is remarkable, and beneath the primitive mask of grunting and drooling, lies a highly advanced thought-process. My best guess is that at an early age this young boy was lost in the amazon jungle, where he was subjected to the harsh and highly radioactive urine of the Brazilian howler monkey. Poly administration, along with the advice of Caltech authorities, has decided to hunt the jungle boy down, find his secret lair and destory any evidence of his existence. The staplers and Norton Readers stolen by the enigma wil be returned to their pro per owners and peace will be maintained on the Polytechnic High School campus.

We are proud to dedicate this year's Oakleaves to Mr. Dunn, one of the most cherished recent additions to our faculty and the Poly community. With his sincere dedication to his students, the enthusiasm he brings to his classes, and his quirky sense of humor, it's no wonder he immediately endeared himself to both students and faculty the moment he stepped on campus only four years ago. Eastern Philosophy is an optional, nonacademic class offered to seniors which focuses on the religious and social philosophies of Eastern cultures. This class is taught by Physics teacher, Craig Flether and meets weekly. The basic principles of Buddhism and Hinduism are studied and discussed. Many

HUMAN SEXUALITY AND RELATIONS

This optional class gives students the opportunity to discuss issues involving relationahips and sexuality. Beyond the educational aspect of this class, I was able to meet new people and learn that others are concerned with the same issues that I am. The weekly meetings also gave me a chance to relax, discussing romantic relationships and friendships mixed with good snacks, laughs, and memories. Thank you to the Hanson/Hawthorne group. We were awesome!

The staff of The Witness, Oakleaves '99, probably spent an equal amount of time this year working their fingers to the bone and laughing like crazy maniacs. I am proud to present what I believe you will agree is one of the funniest and most creative yearbooks in the history of the Polytechnic School. Of course, this was no accident. On the contrary, the hilarious and original staff of Oakleaves lent their tremendous skills and their great amount of patience to this book. I would first like to thank each one of them for their dedication and hard work. To the Oakleaves staff of '99: thank you so very much! Without your skills and time, we would never have made it this far without losing our minds.

Michelle and Ali: You are the two most organized and diligent human beings in existance. I don't think that it is possible to count the number of times that you have saved us from certain death. You have been the left and right hands of this production and I thank you for all of your efforts. You astound me.

Rusha and Margaret: You steadily worked through the long, long lists of pages to be layed out with such attention to detail. Being a two year veteran of layout hell, I know that your job is probably the least exciting but defnitely vital. This book was certainly a layout piece and you used your great design ideas so effectively. You should be extremely proud of your hard work.

Neetu and Joanna: The great humor in of Oakleaves '99 came from the brains of you two; you deserve so much credit for your careful satires! I will sincerely miss reading the hilarious captions that you put on pictures! Good work this year; you are both such characters

Ashley and Christina: You did a phenomenal job raising funds for the yearbook this year! You never tired from meeting with parents for the Ads and Dedications, you never complained about sending out hundreds of letters to parents, and you never showed any signs of panic when arranging Winter Formal! Thank you so much for all of your patience, hard work, and for the many updates.

Tenley, Adia, and Traci: The three of you were such a powerhouse at the beginning of the year! Though seniors can sometimes ( ) be unruly, you still vigorously made all of your deadlines. And though Traci began the year as an Assistant Editor, it is necessary to note that she went above and beyond the duties of her position and took on the responsibilities of a full editor. You are all inspirations to me.

Christina, Oliver, and Derek: Your amazing artwork livens up the yearbook so much! Thank you, Christina, for your dedication and for sharing your great talent. Thank you, Oliver, for all of your organization, originality, and interesting though sometimes impractical suggestions. I trust you now. And thank you, Derek, for always asking what else you could do and for always being positive. You all made my job so much easier.

Jeremy and Jan: Though proofing and indexing are some of the most tedious and difficult tasks, you always deligated effectively and got the work done. Thank you for always respecting me even when I pilled on the work.

Paul, Amit, Nathaniel, and Mark: Photography is probably not the easiest or the most glamorous role in the creation of the yearbook, but you worked so hard to organize yourselves this year. As with Traci, it is necessary to note that Nathaniel began the year as an Assistant Editor but was promoted after the first deadline. Thank you all for not losing your minds with all of my nagging and pestering!

There are a few other people who deserve recognition for their help in the creation of Oakleaves '99. First of all, Mr. Barry, thank you so very much for all of your great advice and guidence. Cory Mundwiler, thank you for your encouragement and support. I would like to acknowledge and give my sincere thanks to the staff of the Paw Print (especially Jon and Chris) for sharing such a small space with us and for giving us much needed computer assistance. I would like to recognize everyone who overlooked the bags under my eyes after all night yearbook sessions as well, especially my family and friends. And finally, I would like to sincerely give my gratitude to every person on our staff, every person who showed up for a picture, every person who finished his or her senior page or ad by the deadline, and every person who offered advice or help. Without your cooperation, we would have been lost.

So ends another long day in the publications room. Though when I look back over this long year, 1 realize that I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Congratualations to everyone who helped in the production of Oakleaves '99! It has been a wonderful experience working with you You have created something to truly be treasured.
