The peculiarities of the site, given by the climatic conditions, as well as the particular needs of a jewellery production, together with the desire and the vision of a new modern and eco-sustainable factory, make it necessary to understand which are the most important principles that should guide the firm's decision-making choices, in order to face the challenge of the design in the best possible way. The shape of the area influences the morphological structure of the new building, it will have to be set up with a linear typology. The new area will house the new factory and the office/showroom building. The southern part of the area will host the new production building, to keep a large open and green area in the northern part, where the new office/ showroom will be located. In the area of the old factory there will be various facilities for workers, changing rooms and security control rooms and a car park. In addition, all workers' accommodation will be located on the east side. The two main points regarding the energy strategy are the production of renewable energy and the design of passive energy buildings. For the new factory and office/showroom the challenge is to design a building that will be able to reduce energy waste, as it will have to exploit the conditions of the natural environment to control the indoor climate. Workspaces, production needs, environmental factors and sustainable energy will be the guidelines for every design decision. Through deep thinking the challenge will be to compose a harmonious system, able to give the right answer to each strategic point mentioned.

The challenge is to design a building that will be able to reduce energy waste.

Le peculiarità del luogo, date dalle condizioni climatiche, come le particolari esigenze di una produzione di gioielli, insieme al desiderio e alla visione di una nuova fabbrica moderna ed ecosostenibile rendono necessario capire quali sono i principi più importanti che dovrebbero guidare la scelte decisionali dello studio, per affrontare al meglio la sfida della progettazione. La forma dell'area influisce nella struttura morfologica del nuovo edificio, dovrà essere impostata con una tipologia lineare. Nella nuova area saranno collocati la nuova fabbrica e l'edificio degli uffici/showroom. La parte sud dell'area ospiterà il nuovo edificio di produzione, per mantenere un'ampia e grande area aperta e verde nella parte nord, dove sarà collocato il nuovo ufficio/showroom. Nell'area della vecchia fabbrica sono previsti diversi servizi per i lavoratori, spogliatoi e stanze di controllo della sicurezza e un parcheggio. Inoltre, sul lato est saranno collocati tutti gli alloggi per i lavoratori. I due punti principali riguardanti la strategia energetica sono la produzione di energia rinnovabile e la progettazione di edifici ad energia passiva. Per la nuova fabbrica e l'ufficio/showroom la sfida è quella di progettare un edificio che sarà in grado di ridurre lo spreco di energia, in quanto dovrà sfruttare le condizioni dell'ambiente naturale per controllare il clima interno. Spazi di lavoro, esigenze produttive, fattori ambientali e attitudine all'energia sostenibile saranno le linee guida per ogni decisione progettuale. Attraverso un pensiero profondo la sfida sarà quella di comporre un sistema armonico, in grado di dare la giusta risposta ad ogni punto strategico menzionato.

A characteristic element of the project is THE SIGN, a common thread which visually unites the three buildings and the public spaces.

THE SIGN

With The Sign project, located in an area of Milan's Barona district, this part of the city takes on a completely new look, in line with the cultural and creative ferment that characterises the area in which it is developing. The mixed-use complex consists of three office buildings of 9, 11 and 3 floors above ground, a square and green spaces. The buildings are characterised by the presence of a central core, including stairwells, lifts and technical rooms, and by workspaces arranged around the perimeter. The ground and first floors of buildings A and B house doubleheight common entrance halls, commercial spaces, meeting rooms and common areas overlooking the green areas and the square which, in continuity with the IULM park, represents the key element of the project. Large green terraces have been created on the top floors of buildings A and B, staggering the height of the two volumes separated by the central core, while the top floor of building C will be covered with a green roof. A characteristic element of the project is the SIGN, a common thread, a line of LED light, which visually unites the three buildings and the public spaces. The sign originates from the arrival of the pedestrian flow at the Romolo underground station, crosses the offices and the square. This single simple gesture holds the intervention together, reconnects it with its context and makes it recognisable. Con il progetto The Sign, situato in un’ area del quartiere Barona di Milano, questa parte di città acquista una veste completamente nuova, in linea con il fermento culturale e creativo che caratterizza l’ambito in cui si sta sviluppando. Il complesso mixed-use è costituito da tre edifici direzionali da 9, 11 e 3 piani fuori terra, da una piazza e da spazi verdi. Gli edifici sono caratterizzati dalla presenza di un core centrale, comprendente corpi scala, ascensori e locali tecnici, e da spazi di lavoro disposti sul perimetro. Il piano terra ed il primo piano degli edifici A e B ospitano atri comuni di ingresso a doppia altezza, spazi commerciali, sale riunioni e spazi comuni affacciati sulle aree verdi e sulla piazza che, in continuità con il parco dello IULM, rappresenta l’elemento cardine del progetto. In corrispondenza degli ultimi piani degli edifici A e B sono state allestite ampie terrazze verdi, sfalsando l’altezza dei due volumi separati dal nucleo centrale, mentre all’ultimo piano dell’edificio C è prevista una copertura a verde. Elemento caratterizzante del progetto è il SEGNO, un filo conduttore, una linea di luce LED, che unisce visivamente i tre edifici e gli spazi pubblici. Il segno origina dall’arrivo del flusso pedonale alla fermata della metropolitana di Romolo, attraversa gli uffici e la piazza. Questo unico semplice gesto tiene unito l'intervento, lo ricuce con il contesto e lo rende riconoscibile.
