► Gerhard Olivier ‘n Man wat tien tal Rekord lesers al ingedoen het is nog steeds op vrye voet nadat ‘n leser van Clocolan sy mees onlangse slagoffer was. Mr. Johndre van der Merwe (25) het al verskeie persone ingedoen deur items op verskeie WhatsApp groepe te adverteer. Sodra ‘n koper kontak maak belowe Van der Merwe om die item so spoedig moontlik af te lewer sodra hy die betaling ontvang. Van der Merwe doen sy huiswerk voordat hy op ‘n groep adverteer. Hy maak kontak met persone wat reeds in die omgewing bly en verkoop die slenter dat hy eersdaags daarheen verhuis. Wie’s die dokter, predikant, skoolhoof, beste area om in te bly ens word gevra alvorens hy die items op die groep adverteer. So wanneer die koper hom skakel is hy gou om staaltjies oor die skoolhoof ens te deel wat ‘n gevoel van vertroue by die koper skep. Sodra die Koper betaal het begin die verskonings en stories totdat Van der Merwe sy kontak nommer verander en weer op ‘n ander groep toeslaan. Maar hy kom weer terug binne ‘n paar weke met ander items en nommer, maar die FNB bankrekening bly dieselfde. En hy doen dit landwyd. Rekord kan vandag onthul dat ‘n Boer wie se naam aan Rekord bekend is van Oudsthoorn met duisende rande ingedoen is nadat Van der Merwe toerusting aan die boer sou aflewer. ‘n Boer van Cradock wat ‘n trekker in Bethlehem gekoop het geld verloor het deur Van der Merwe wat weer die vervoer sou verskaf te gebruik. Die Boer het sy trekker ontvang deur weer vir vervoer te betaal maar nog steeds geen inbetaling van Van der Merwe nie. - ‘n Inwoner van Clocolan wat ‘n kragopwekker gekoop het by Van der Merwe verlede week en nie die kragopwekker of terugbetaling ontvang het nie.

Nog ‘n inwoner van Clocolan het byna sy geld verloor deur dit vir ‘n sitkamerstel te betaal wat glo in Ladybrand gestaan het. Die inwoner het slim gedink en besluit om te betaal sodra hy die sitkamerstel in ontvangs neem, deur te ry Ladybrand toe net om daar te kom en geen sitkamer stel en Van der Merwe te kry nie. Soortgelyke gevalle is reeds aan Rekord bekend gemaak in Parys, George, Aliwal Noord en Burgersdorp. Van der Merwe gebruik ook die name JP en Johan en is so sjarmant en oortuigend dat hy letterlik ys aan ‘n eskimo sal kan verkoop. Een leser van Ladybrand was egter baie gelukkig om sy geld terug te ontvang vir ‘n Samsung Galaxy foon wat hy by Van der Merwe gekoop het. Van der Merwe gebruik ook gereeld die nou gelikiwideerde besigheid Machine Distributors South Africa in George waar hy glo nog werk – Rekord het vasgestel dat hy wel in 2017 daar saam met sy Pa gewerk het. In ‘n telefoniese onderhoud het Van der Merwe se Pa dit bevestig maar was heel onbewus van wat Van der Merwe besig is om aan te vang. Volgens sy pa het hulle al meer as ‘n jaar laas kontak gehad. Rekord kon ook nie vasstel of daar alreeds ‘n saak oopgemaak is teen Van der Merwe nie. Volgens Van der Merwe se Linkedin profile het hy ook by Barloworld gewerk in Johannesburg en werk tans by CLAAS as verkoopskonsultant. Rekord kon nie bevestig by watter tak nie. Van der Merwe is op verskeie maniere gekontak vir kommentaar maar het teen saktyd nog nie op enige van Rekord se versoeke gereageer nie. Intussen word “admins” op WhatsApp groepe versoek om hulle lede van die geval te verwittig en enige leser wat inligting het of heel moontlik ingedoen is kan met Rekord kontak maak deur ‘n e.pos te stuur aan editor@rekordmediafs.co.za

| HEUNINGDRUPPELS Ons lees in Matt. 16:13 dat Jesus vir sy dissipels vra: “Wat sê die mense oor My, die Seun van die mens?” Party sê Hy is Johannes, ander sê Elia of Jeremia of een van die ander profete. Niemand het raakgesien dat dit Jesus is nie. Hy was daar by hulle. Hulle het Hom hoor preek, hulle het Hom sien wonderwerke doen en tog het die mense nie besef dat Hy die Seun van God is nie. Dan vra Jesus vir sy dissipels: “En wat sê julle van My? Wie is Ek volgens julle?” (Matt. 16:15) Voordat ons Petrus se antwoord lees, dink ’n bietjie wat jóú antwoord sou wees. Wie is Hy volgens jou? Sommer ook net een van die profete? Sommer net ’n geskiedenis figuur? Sommer net iemand wat lank gelede geleef het en goeie dade gedoen het? Sommer net ’n fiktiewe karakter uit ’n storieboek? Dalk iemand wat jy nie nodig het nie? Iemand wat jy liefs uit jou gedagtes en hart wil verban? Iemand sonder wie jy kan klaarkom? Of... kan jy ook sonder huiwering, soos Petrus sê: “U is die Christus, die Redder wat deur God na ons gestuur is. U is die Seun van die lewende God.” (Matt. 16:16) Om so ’n belydenis te maak, sê Jesus vir Petrus, is nie iets wat hy by iemand anders gehoor het nie, dis iets wat God sélf aan hom geopenbaar het, dis iets wat hy sélf ervaar het. Sonder so ’n Goddelike openbaring sal Jesus vir mense net ’n profeet of iemand uit die verlede wees. Maar wanneer God jou oë oopmaak sal jy wéét wie Jesus is, sal jy Hom persoonlik ken, sal Hy die Koning van jou hart word. Kyk vandag eers na wie Jesus is, voordat jy na jou probleme of jou swaarkry of jou behoeftes kyk – kyk en sien en glo dat Hy die Seun van God is.

| WAT ‘N FOTO

| VIR DIE REKORD Suid-Afrika gaan nog kwaai gebuk onder ekonomiese druk as gevolg van die korrupsie van ons vorige president en sy “bende” wat soveel beloof het, maar glo ook net soveel gesteel het en nou is Eskom ook in sy maai in. President Cyril Ramaphosa het soveel vure om dood te slaan net om te probeer verhoed dat ons land se ekonomiese status nie op dieselfde vlak as alledaagse rommel beland nie. Ek glo Kapitalisme kan ons moontlik red. Nie kommunisme of sosialisme soos waarop Julius Malema, EFF-leier, hamer nie, al is sy idee oor kommunisme of sosialisme nie 100% korrek of dieselfde as Karl Marx s’n nie. ‘n Kapitalis sien geleenthede vir beter ekonomiese groei en hoe om produksievlakke op te stoot teen die laagste moontlike koste. Dit is presies wat ons nodig het om uit hierdie ekonomiese ashoop te kom. Dis nie asof ek dink kapitalisme is diè oplossing nie. Ek is ‘n student in menslike hulpbronne Bestuur en verstaan al te goed dat werknemers se welstand baie meer werd is as enige mate van wins, maar daar is maniere om hierdie stelsel te laat werk sonder om vakbonde om te krap. DIS NIE ‘n KITSOPLOSSING NIE Die oplossing is maklik, maak ons groot openbare entiteite beskikbaar vir die publiek om te koop. Selfs al lok dit moontlik buitelandse kopers, is dit ook nie die einde van die wêreld nie, solank hierdie entiteite weer soos ‘n onderneming bedryf kan word. Ja, dit gaan wel beteken dat die regering nie meer in beheer is van hierdie entiteite nie, en ook nie meer ‘n sê gaan hê oor hoe dit bedryf word nie, maar dit kan die omvang van korrupsie in die openbare sektor aansienlik verminder. Ministers sal nie meer hul hande in die spaarvarkie, soos wat Eskom bekend staan, kan steek om ‘n vinnige paar rande uit te haal om vir hulle ‘n nuwe sportmotors te koop nie. Met hierdie oplossing kan die vrees dalk ontstaan dat die werkers nie goed behandel sal word nie. Ons almal ken die prentjie van die vet oompie wat ‘n sigaar rook terwyl hy deur sakke vol geld omring is terwyl sy werkers hul vir pennies moet afsloof as die versinnebeelding van kapitalisme. Maar dit is die 21ste eeu en werkers en hul vakbonde sal sorg dat niemand benadeel word deur die stelsel nie. Hierdie is ook nie die kitsoplossing nie. Dit gaan tyd neem om ‘n onderneming 180° om te draai, maar bekwane sakelui met die regte ingesteldheid kan dit regkry. Die oplossing sal ook Mnr Ramaphosa se werklas verlig en hom meer tyd gee om op ander belangrike kwessies te fokus. Waar kan ons hierdie entiteite adverteer? Wat ek bepleit is kapitalisme waar ons die ekonomiese toestande sowel as die werkers in ag neem. Dit gaan nie ‘n stryd veroorsaak soos in die 1970’s in Amerika toe gewone mense teen “The Man” in opstand gekom het nie. Kenners in menslikehulpbronne sal beslis ook hul hande vol hê om te verseker dat sowel private eienaars as die arbeidsmag tevrede is (werkskepping). Gelukkig het ons vakbonde wat die werkers se belange op die hart dra, en sakelui wat weet hoe om ‘n onderneming so te Bestuur dat dit meer winsgewend is. Ten slotte, verkoop ons entiteite Meneer die President. Dit gaan vir ons geld gee om dadelik aan ander dringende sake te bestee en dit gaan ons ministers se werklas verminder sodat hulle eerder op ander meer dreigende kwessies en probleme kan fokus, want die nuwe Bestuur van hierdie entiteite gaan soveel meer moeite doen en ook die bevrediging kry om hul boeke vanuit die rooi weer na die groen te bring. Die vraag is net, waar adverteer ‘n mens hierdie entiteite, want ek het nog nooit so ‘n advertensie op OLX gesien nie.

Verstaan ons nog waaroor die Geloftefees- viering gaan? ► Jan Greeff Ons hede is onlosmaaklik met ons verlede verbind. Wie en wat ons vandag is, word bepaal deur ons geskiedenis, maar ken ons nog hierdie geskiedenis en besef ons hoe intiem God by ons geskiedenis be-trokke was en steeds is? Vanjaar se Geloftefeesviering plaas die kollig op die invloed wat die Here se betrokkenheid op ons identiteit gehad het. Hierdie Goddelike betrokkenheid loop soos ’n goue draad deur ons geskiedenis. Dit begin met die aankoms van Jan van Riebeeck en bereik ’n hoogtepunt by die slag van Bloedrivier, maar gaan steeds voort. Selfs ons voorouers se hardkoppigheid het Hy op wonderbare wyse gebruik om konflik in vrede te omskep. Die rede vir en die verloop van die Groot Trek sal tydens die viering met vertellings, voordragte en geprojekteerde foto’s geïllustreer word. Die aard van die destydse binneland waarheen die trekkers op pad was, asook die verspreiding en dinamika van stamme wat in die binneland gewoon het, sal geskets word. Ons staan ook stil by die aard en karakter van die trekker as mens, hul leefwyse, interaksie met die natuur, hul deursettingsvermoë, hul sedes en waardes. Ons wandeling deur die geskiedenis neem ons verby die Kaapkolonie, die eerste trek, Vegkop, ons eerste Volksbestuur en grondwet, die eerste Kerkraad, Piet Retief en Dingaan, die Vlugkommando, Andries Pretorius en die Gelofte, asook die Wenkommando. Selfs Paul Kruger maak sy verskyning as ’n 10-jarige kind in die vertelling. Deur hierdie boeiende geskiedenisverhaal lei God se genade na vrede vir die trekkers sowel as die onderlingverdeelde swart stamme. God het ons ’n geskiedenis gegee waarin ons sy teenwoordigheid kan sien en daaruit kan leer, want ons onveranderlike God bly betrokke. Wanneer ons dit in ons geskiedenis sien en besef, kan ons die toekoms met vrymoedigheid en vertroue tegemoet gaan. | KLITSGRAS Jy sien die hele idee van ‘n “secret” whatsApp groepie is dat dit ‘n secret moet bly en dat jy nie iemand in die secret groepie moet afpis nie. Want soos dit nou die geval is het onse dorpie se secret whatsApp groepie public knowledge geword nadat die admin en ‘n member so bietjie vasgesit het en die besluit het om die “regte ding” te doen en vir die wat in detail bespreek is die whatsApps te forward. En mense die dorp is in rep en roer… want jy sien die 22 members moes voor hulle in die geheime kring toegelaat word bevestig dat hulle nie met enige van die volgende persone vriende is om toegelaat te word nie. Klitsie vermoed ‘n paar het gelieg maar die comments het gevlieg hoor. Van ‘n pastoor wat so lieg in die week oor sy lewe en dan Sonsdag wil staan en preek tot die moffie wat dink hy’s untouchable en nog gebliksem gaan word oor dit wat hy kwyt raak. En dan is daar die vet girlie wat by die admin wat al ‘n dosyn kinders het se een eks vlerk sleep…as die arme girl die comments gelees het sou die admin sekerlik nie deur haar oë kon kyk nie. En wat van die family wat uitgeskop word omdat hulle glo stink? O ja en wat van die gesiene man wat betaal as jy vir hom ‘n stoute foto stuur? Nou word daar woes omverskoning gevra en fone wat gehack is en dat die of daai nooit by so iets betrokke sou geraak het nie, want ons is mos kerkmense. Ons is so gewoond dat vuil wasgoed op Facebook gewas word maar dit lyk nou of die vuilste wasgoed vIr whatsApp gelos word. En die beste van alles is dat sommige van die lede wel familie van die is wat bespreek is. Dit wys jou net die makste hond byt die seerste…

Butterflied leg of lamb This recipe serves six to eight people. Ingredients for the lamb 1.5 to 2 kg leg of lamb, butterflied (ask your butcher) 200 ml buttermilk 2 portions of Worldly rub Oil Ingredients for the Worldly rub 1 tbs ground cumin 1 tbs paprika 1 tsp onion flakes (you can use fresh onions too) 2 tbs dry rose petals (not essential) 1 tbs salt 1 tbs turmeric 2 tbs chilli flakes (leave out if you don’t like hot spicy food) 1 tbs tamarind paste (often difficult to find and not essential) 3 tbs fresh parsley, fi nely chopped 2 tbs pine-nuts, toasted and ground ½ teaspoon pepper. Slice and serve.

Worldly rub Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl. You can refrigerate the rub in an airtight container for up to two weeks. Lamb Mix the buttermilk and Worldly rub to form a marinade for the lamb (for best results, rub directly into the meat before marinating). Ideally leave overnight, otherwise leave for at least three to four hours. Brush kettle grill with oil. Cook lamb over medium coals for 30 to 40 minutes depending on your preference. Remove and set aside for five to 10 minutes

Geen verandering aan nasionale minimum loon ►Vrystaat Landbou VRYSTAAT: Daar sal vir eers geen veranderinge of verhogings aan die nasionale minimum loon (NML) gemaak word nie. Die kommissie oor die NML het op 21 November 2019 vergader, maar weens ’n gebrek aan kworum kon geen besluit geneem word nie. Volgens Gernie Botha, Regsadviseur van Vrystaat Landbou, sal daar in Januarie 2020 op ’n nuwe datum besluit word wanneer die kommissie weer vergader.

Misdadigers teiken store met saad ► Vrystaat Landbou VRYSTAAT: Landbouers moet seker maak hul store is genoegsaam beveilig, omdat misdadigers nou glo plase teiken waar saad en kunsmis gestoor word. Volgens Vrystaat Landbou (VL) se inligting is daar reeds groot hoeveelhede saad in die omgewing van Bothaville, Ventersburg en Marquard gesteel. “In een geval in Desember is werkers vasgebind en van nagenoeg 360 sakkies saad geroof,” sê dr Jane Buys, Veiligheidsrisiko-analis van VL. Landbouers word ook versoek om enige inligting oor moontlike verdagte voertuie en mense aan hul Veiligheidsverteenwoordigers deur te gee, sodat dit weer aan VL se Veiligheidslessenaar oorgedra en misdaad bekamp kan word. FIVE YEARS OF THIRST: THE EASTERN CAPE BATTLES BRUTAL DROUGHT ► AFP EASTERN CAPE: Farmer Steve Bothma heaved a sigh of relief when the weatherman finally predicted rain. His excitement was shortlived. Just a few days later, the forecast changed. It was back to cloudless sunshine. In the Eastern Cape, no one can remember the last proper downpour. Some say it was five years ago, others six. "This is a disaster," said Bothma, 51, who in his three decades working the land has never seen such dry weather. "Older people who are 70 or 80 years old would tell you exactly the same thing," he added. Southern Africa is grappling with one of the worst droughts in decades -- the outcome of years of absent or erratic rainfall, and temperatures that have reached record highs. Millions are facing hunger due to poor harvests and dwindling livestock. "It is usually beautifully green at this time of the year," said Bothma, as a hot gust of wind swept through his sheep pen. "But now even the pine trees are dying." South Africa is one of the world's driest countries at the best of times. Rapid urbanisation and growing water consumption have placed a strain on water reserves and caused the coastal city of Cape Town to almost run dry in 2018. But the ongoing drought has compounded the situation. Dam levels dropped dangerously low in October, prompting President Cyril Ramaphosa to call for "drastic measures". South Africa is in "a dire situation", said Ramaphosa in October, highlighting that five out of nine provinces were badly hit. TO THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE Bothma has had to cull around 60 percent of his merino sheep, including lambs. Because of the drought, he could only afford to keep 2,000 as "breeding stock". "Usually I keep them until they are five or six years old," Bothma explained, as his staff selected animals for the next trip to the slaughterhouse. The price he gets for his merino wool has plunged by around 40 percent over the past year due to the drought and a footand-mouth disease outbreak in the north of the country. "The wool is full of dust and not very strong," said Bothma. Years of dry weather have left scars in the landscape. Arid fields flanked the windy gravel road leading to the nearest town of Adelaide, tucked at the bottom of a mountain range. Cows chewed pieces of wood and sheep ambled in search of food. In town, livestock roamed the streets and nibbled at scorched grass on the golf course. The nearest dam dried up at the start of the year. CAN'T WASH Some of Adelaide's 15,000 inhabitants had been without running water for seven months. A South African aid group, Gift of the Givers, has been helping by delivering water to the area since April. On a recent water mission, hundreds of people In the township of Bezuidenhoutville rushed up with

an array of empty bottles, buckets, iceboxes and even paint cans. "We are keeping it for food and drink," said Rodney Douglas, 59, pushing a wheelbarrow piled high with plastic jerrycans. Assanda Sais, 38, complained that she could only spare enough water to bathe once a week and that her house was "smelling". "We keep dirty water to flush," she explained. Bezuidenhoutville's local middle school has had to shorten its week by half a day due to the lack of water. Many children were missing class altogether. "Kids have to help parents to carry water," said teacher Zeenat Gangat, sweltering as the sun beat down on the container walls of a classroom. "They can't wash," she added. "They complain about stomach issues." POOR INFRASTRUCTURE Local authorities have tried to ease the situation by connecting sections of the town to a reservoir fed by Fish River, around 50 kilometres (30 miles) away. The water is allocated on a rotational basis, but even then the pipeline to the river is way too narrow. Adelaide deputy mayor Bornboy Ndyebi said the town's pipelines were in poor shape, and Thandekile Mnyimba, who heads the regional district of Amathole, told AFP that water trucks supplied by the government had broken down. South Africa's main opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA), has accused the ruling party of acting too late. "It is only when the dam reached a very low level - around four percent -- that they woke up," said DA councillor Ernie Lombard. Ramaphosa has sought to pin the blame on years of poor governance under former president Jacob Zuma, whom he succeeded in 2018. "Corruption in the water sector has in no small part contributed to the situation we currently face," he declared. Bridgestone becomes first SA manufacturer to produce 19-inch tyres Bridgestone South Africa has become the first local manufacturer to produce 19-inch tyres, thanks to an investment in new technology at its Brits facility. The new tyres are being produced for the BMW X3. “Bridgestone has a long relationship with BMW as an original equipment supplier and given that the BMW X3 is assembled in South Africa, it’s obviously a huge step forward for us to not have to import this size of tyre,” says Bridgestone South Africa. Tyres play a huge role in ensuring that highly engineered automobiles perform as designed, and Bridgestone has been supplying tyres in 11 sizes from its Alenza 001 range for the new BMW X3 since 2017. Bridgestone’s engineers worked alongside BMW to develop a tyre that would allow the vehicle to perform optimally. “The capacity to produce this specialist tyre here also signals our intention to ensure that Bridgestone South Africa continues to compete on the world market,” he says. “South African manufacturers are facing stiff competition from overseas imports, and we need to invest wisely in new equipment in order to carve out new niches for ourselves in both the domestic and global markets. “This brings not only new equipment and capability into the local tyre manufacturing market, but it’s also part of our initiative to upskill our local workforce in order to equip it for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

These cars could win the 2020 AutoTrader South African Car of the Year! The top 14 finalists for the 2020 AutoTrader South African Car of the Year have been announced - one of these cars will win the sought-after crown! The cars can also win one of seven categories: Family, Leisure, Lifestyle, Premium Car, Premium SUV, Sport/Performance or Urban. The most hotly contested category is Leisure, with four finalists: the Peugeot 5008, Toyota RAV4, Citroën C3 Aircross and Volkswagen T-Cross. The Premium SUV category is also well populated, with three finalists: the BMW X5, Jaguar I-PACE and Mercedes-Benz GLE. There are two finalists in the Urban and Family categories. The Hyundai Atos and Suzuki Swift Sport are fighting it out for laurels in Urban while the Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla Hatch are going tooth and nail for top honours in the Family category. There is one finalist in each of the remaining three categories: the BMW 3 Series is the finalist in the Premium Car category, the Sports/Performance category has the Toyota GR Supra as its finalist and the Ford Ranger Raptor is the sole finalist in the Lifestyle category. A win in the prestigious 2020 AutoTrader South African Car of the Year competition will be significant for all of the brands involved in the contest. For some of the finalists to win, it would really be one for the history books. Citroën, for instance, has yet to win South Africa's most sought-after motoring accolade - and the timing could not be better, given the fact that the French manufacturer has just re-entered the South African market. Suzuki did exceptionally well in the 2019 AutoTrader South African Car of the Year, with its Swift and Jimny winning their categories (Urban Compact and Lifestyle Utility respectively). However,

it's never notched up an overall win. An electric car and a bakkie have never won the competition either, meaning an I-PACE or Raptor victory will be truly momentous. According to Vivien Natasen, chairman of the 2020 AutoTrader South African Car of the Year competition and honorary secretary of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (which organises the competition), there are some really strong contenders in this year's contest. "Right now, there is no clear frontrunner, it anyone's guess as to which car will win," he notes. AutoTraderCEO, George Mienie, reveals that members of the public would like to see a win by the Mazda3. "It triumphed in the consumer vote, where we had hundreds of thousands of votes. The consumer votes act as the 28th Juror in the competition. Mazda's last win was back in 2008, with the Mazda2 1.5 Individual - so it will be interesting to see if this Japanese company can take top honours," he comments. Mienie adds that fellow Japanese automaker, Toyota, has good odds for a possible win. "Toyota is the only company with three finalists in the 2020 competition," he points out. Toyota notched up two overall wins in the 1980s - the Toyota Corolla Twin Cam won in 1986 and the Toyota Corolla GLi Executive took the title in 1989. However, a win has proved elusive for the company since then. The finalists were named at an event in Johannesburg on December 4. The next step in the 2020 AutoTrader South African Car of the Year journey is the track and road testing of the finalists in March 2020 by 27 of South Africa's top motoring journalists. The category and overall winners will be announced at an event hosted by AutoTrader in April 2020.
