BETHLEHEM: Premier Soccer League and Orlando Pirates chairperson Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza has mourned the death of one of the founding fathers of the National Soccer League which is the holding company of professional football in the country. Mike Mokoena, chairman of Free State Stars Football Club and also a longstanding member of the Executive Committee, died in the early hours of 17 June after a long battle with cancer.”Our prayers are with the Mokoena family, especially its matriarch, Ausi Joyce Mokoena, who has been a pillar of strength that propped Bra Mike up over the years,” Khoza said from the Parktown offices of the league. He described Mokoena as a self-made man who took the fruits of his toil, which
he could have used for his personal benefit and that of his family, and invested it selflessly in football. The Free State Stars payroll that he created and maintained, sometimes under very trying circumstances, was a source of viable livelihoods for many. Khoza said Bra Mike, as the Stars strongman was better known in football circles, was an epitome of practicality. “People do not come more practical that Mr Mokoena lived,” he added. He founded Stars in 1977 in the small village of Makwane and named it Makwane Computer Stars and then changed it to Qwa Qwa Stars and shined a spotlight on the little known town of Qwa Qwa in the Eastern Free State. This literally put it on the map along with the nearby town of Bethlehem. Almost 10 years later, the club gained promotion to the Premier Soccer League but at the time of his death, the team, which had had a colourful existence and exploits in the professional league, had been relegated to the now GladAfrica Championship in the 2018/ 19 season. “The economic activity generated by Free State Stars in that part of our country is a powerful legacy of a passionate man that always maintained that ‘where there is a will, there is a way’. it has now been confirmed by Free State
premier Sisi Ntombela that 'Bra Mike' will be granted a provincial official funeral. “The President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency, Cyril Ramaphosa has on 22 June 2020, approved the request that the funeral of the late Liphapang Michael Mokoena be declared as Special Official Funeral Category 2," read a statement from government. VIR DIE REKORD Ek beskou myself as ‘n slagoffer van goedhartigheidheid wat misbruik word. Ek weet nie wie om te blameer nie, miskien is die swaarkry groot word jare wat my die mens gemaak het. Ek kan dit nie vat as ek ander mense sien suffer nie. Ek probeer help en in 99% van die gevalle waar ek probeer help word my goedhartigheid misbruik. En die beste van alles is liewe leser ek sweer hoog en laag nooit weer nie net om my ‘n paar dae later in byna ‘n soortgelyke situasie te bevind. Ek probeer myself oortuig dat nie almal so is nie maar as ek na my track rekord kyk wat behulpsaamheid aanbetref sukkel ek om ‘n geval uit te sonder waar dit nie die geval was nie. In ons gemeenskap sit ons met gevalle van persone wat nie wil werk nie en alles mahala wil he. Kos, klere, krag en in sommige gevalle verblyf ook. Moet net nie werk aanbied nie in dit stel hulle glad nie belang nie. Daar word geleef van die een skenking na die volgende een hoekom moet hulle dan worry daar is iewers iemand wat vanaand ‘n gekookte bord kos of iets sal kom aflaai. Sodra jy besluit om nie verder te help nie, is dit nie lank voordat die stories die dorp vol lê oor hoe sleg jy is nie. En tog bly ons gee en bly ons die bietjie wat ons self het deel met die wete dat dit wel ‘n verskil maak al wil die wat dit ontvang nie self begin om ‘n verskil in hulle lewens te maak nie. GOD IS ONS TROOSTER “Geseënd is dié wat treur, want hulle sal vertroos word.” Matteus 5:4. Die Griekse woord wat hier vir “troos” gebruik word, is ‘n ewe sterk woord as dié wat vir treur” gebruik word. Waar “treur” ‘n hartverskeurende woord is, is “troos” ‘n genesende woord. Die woord beteken bystand en ondersteuning. Jy is geseënd omdat jou hartseer jou by God kan bring! Omdat jou hartseer jou by die rooster, die Heilige Gees kan bring. Nie alle hartseer mense is geseënd nie. Nie elkeen wat treur word vertroos nie. Dit hang af waar en hoe jy treur. Waar jy jou troos gaan soek. Droefheid en vreugde word dikwels in die Bybel in dieselfde asem genoem, soos in Spreuke 14:13, Psalm 30:6 en 12. In God se koninkryk verloop dinge net eenvoudig anders. God se kinders ís ánders. Wat vir wêreldse mense onmoontlik klink, selfs belaglik, is vir God se kinders moontlik. Want hulle het God leer ken. En die Trooster woon in hulle! Trooster – dit is die titel wat Jesus in Johannes 14 vir die Heilige Gees gee. En dit is waaroor dit in die lewe van God se kinders gaan. Hulle het die Heilige Gees in hulle lewens! Hy help ons treur. Ons vlug of ontvlug nie van hartseer af weg nie. Ons soek en vind God ook daarin. Ons leer om te huil, ook saam met God oor ons sondehartseer, en ons leer om vertroos te word. Die Trooster gee ons ook hoopvolle hartseer, en hartseer met ‘n toekoms. Want jy weet jou toekoms is by God! God se passie is om heel te maak. Daarvan is Jesus se kruis die bewys. En Openbaring 21:4 beloof dit ook. Gaan lees dit. Tot dan sal daar treurendes wees. En vir ons wat by God gaan treur, is daar God self, die Trooster. Ons is gelukkige mense, geseënd, ook as ons treur. Wat van die siekte, en dood, en egskeiding, en al die ander onomkeerbare gevolge van die sonde? Al die onomkeerbare oorsake van my hartseer? God gee nie op alles antwoorde nie. God gee Homself. Dit is meer as enige antwoord!
Daar is 'n opname wat die ronde doen op whatsupp oor 'n Dr. wat in Italie werk. Sy gesels oor wat sy ervaar en watter effek dit op die land het. Sy praat ook van SA en hoe ons onsself moet voorberei vir wat voorlê. Heel eerste lees asseblief hier, skryf dit neer en plak dit op jou yskas of waar ookal. Jy hoef nie te vrees vir die skrik van die nag, vir die pyl wat bedags vlieg nie, vir die pes wat in die donker wandel, vir die siekte wat op die middag verwoes nie! Psalm 91: 5-6 (1953 Vertaling) Dit is goed om te hoor sodat ons kan voorberei en gereed kan wees vir wat ookal op ons wag. Maar ons moet ten volle vertrou dat God nog steeds in beheer is. Soos die volk van Israel sal sy kinders se huise gemerk word sodat die doods engel verby gaan ... ons moet net bly opkyk na Hom en in geloof leef. God sal ons krag gee ongeag wat gebeur. Ons moet elke sekond ons oë op Hom hou. Hy sorg en beskerm ons ... wees nie bevrees nie. Ons moet bid vir diegene wat geraak word deur die virus ... mag God sy hand oor hulle en ons rus. DECLUTTER YOUR CV Ever sent through a job application to a company and never even got that “your application was unsuccessful” message? I think those hurt more than receiving such a message. Well at least for myself. I’d rather get a follow up response than nothing at all. That way I know where i stand. Even more so, I can give them a call and ask for further information so to improve for the future. I write this text because most companies take a first glance at your resume and never bet an eye on it again. For many reasons that I want to address. I remember back in grade 9 when I was learning how to draft a CV, i would browse through a number of templates to find the perfect one for myself. Interesting enough the shortest CV I came across was somewhat 3 pages excluding appendices. Today, that’s too long of a CV that no one has the time to go through so many pages. When drafting your resume, you need to make sure that page you give through is attractive enough to for the employer not to throw it in the trash. Instead be interested tor find out more that way they give you a call for an interview. Resume tips and tricks. I have formulated a few tips to help you get started. 1) Select the best template you can find. 2) Find the most legible and professional font. 3) Be as consistent as possible. 4) Be creative but concise. 5) Tailor it to suit the job you are applying for. 6) Edit until you do not know what to edit anymore. What to avoid 1) Cluttering your resume is the first mistake many people make. 2) Avoid having spelling errors. 3) Vague and unclear information is what outs of the employer.

FLOP PROOF COTTAGE PIE FAST FLU FACTS AND 3 THINGS YOU INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • •
6 potatoes 1 onion chopped 1-2 tsp crushed garlic 2 tbsp flour 300 ml beef stock 1 kg beef mince 1 tsp dried thyme 1-2 cups frozen mixed vegetables 250 g cheddar cheese grated 1 tbsp butter paprika 1 tsp hot English mustard
INSTRUCTIONS 1) Peel potatoes and cut into quarters. Place in a pot with cold, salted water. 2) Bring to boil and cook for 15 minutes or until soft. 3) Fry chopped onion and crushed garlic in olive oil over medium heat until translucent. 4) Add flour and fry for 2 min, stirring often. 5) Add beef stock, stirring it in little by little until you have a smooth consistency. 6) Add mince, season with salt, black pepper & thyme. 7) Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mince is evenly browned. 8) Add mixed vegetables, lower heat, cover and simmer for about 10 minutes. Empty into oven dish. 9) When potatoes have cooked, drain and place back in pot. Add butter, 200g cheese, teaspoon of mustard and teaspoon of paprika. Season with salt to taste and mash until smooth. 10) Spoon the mash on top of mince and spread evenly. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Grill for 5-10 minutes. http://www.mammachefjozi.com
PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE Last week I waited at the school FLUgate and I saw Minki and a friend playing a game of catch. They were having a great time, but when Minki finally caught her friend in a big bear hug, the friend turned around and all I could see was snot! Gross I know, but unfortunately it’s the snottie season. “I’m sick of the snotties and did you know that breathing can spread the flu virus?” (Based on a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) #scaryfact Needless to say we headed to Mopani Pharmacy that same afternoon to get our flu shots.
SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE FLU Who should get vaccinated? Everyone above 6 months should get a flu vaccine each season as recommended by the CDC Centres for Disease Control and Prevention since February 2010. But I got one last year… Sorry, but you should get one every year. Why? Because the body’s immune response to vaccines declines over time and flu viruses are constantly changing. Does the flu vaccine work immediately? No. Antibodies that provide protection against flu only develop two weeks after the vaccination. It’s better to get vaccinated before the flu season really gets under way. Can I still get seasonal flu even though I have had the flu vaccine? [Excerpt from Still I Rise by Maya Angelou] This was the poem I had used for my now former Always Rise Blog. It formed one of the important foundations for my blog, in the sense that Still I Rise embodied exactly the kind of woman I want to be one day – a woman who continues to rise no matter what life may throw at her. But 2018 was a year where I had to do just that – rise above the many trials and challenges that life kept throwing me. Some of them I won; others… well, let’s just say I took my ‘L’ gracefully. I remember buying the September 2018 issue of the brand new Glamour magazine. Not only was it the first issue for newly appointed editor-in-chief Asanda Sizani, but it was an iconic celebration of 3 black women on the cover who were “Reshaping The Industry, Rewriting The Rules”. “NEW. NOW. NEXT” was the theme of that issue, and as I read through the pages, a wave of inspiration washed over me. My Honours year was slowly coming to an end, and it was time for me to start thinking about the next phase of my life. And I found it in the pages of that Glamour magazine. There’s a particular kind of woman I envision myself becoming, and I began to think “What NEW thing can I do NOW that will take me to the NEXT level?” Reinventing myself was the answer. I got rid of old clothes, cut my hair short and started taking an extra online course. But I also wanted a reinvention with my blog. So I looked back at my past posts on my Always Rise Blog and came across my post about daring to embody my name more and becoming brave. Again, there was my answer! I’m proud of my name, I think it holds a good amount of power, and if I am going to embody my name the way I want to, then I have to do so with every fibre of my being. If I am going to rise then every part of me must rise too. And so KhaliphaNtloko.Blog was born. I’m still all about being authentic and my love for the Lifestyle and Beauty industries hasn’t changed. I’ve just done a bit of growing up; refining my sense of self whilst redefining my aesthetic. I’m still me – I promise – and I hope you’ll always sense that throughout my blog. THE 8K TELEVISION: NOT ALL OF THEM ARE EQUAL! When 4K was introduced, it quadrupled the total number of pixels from standard high definition (HD) TV (which is 1920 x 1080 pixels, whereas 4K is 3840 x 2160). Now, 8K is doing the same with 4K, with resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, which equates to roughly 8000 horizontal pixels – hence the name. “Essentially, 8K has 16 times the number of pixels as the original 1080-pixel HD TVs,” says Bosch. “But beyond this, 8K TVs also need to have more than a 50% contrast modulation (CM) value, according to the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM), which sets these standards. We challenge any manufacturer out there to meet the standards as well as LG does.” These standards for 8K TVs were agreed upon by the ICDM members in 2016, yet some argue that not all 8K TVs are meeting the CM requirements. “CM is a measure of the clarity of distinction between black and white, which you need for sharper images. ICDM standards dictate that the threshold for textdisplaying screens is 50%, and image-displaying screens at 25%. LG’s NanoCell 8K TV has 90% CM – well over and above the requirement of 50% for 8K screens, and we’ve seen some manufacturers build 8K screens that are measuring as low as 12% CM,” says Bosch. Thankfully, brands are required to report on their CM percentages, so consumers can easily find out how the prospective “8K” TV stacks up before purchasing. Another factor to consider is whether the TV uses LED technology or OLED. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Displays, which require more energy to power, require a backlight and have to have a thicker screen. Because of the backlight, the contrast and colour quality are not as good as OLED screens. OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. These screens produce their own light using organic compounds and thus don’t require a backlight. This makes for better picture contrast, thinner screens and improved energy efficiency. LG has recently released an 8K OLED TV. “Some brands use abbreviations that make it seem like their TVs use OLED technology, but they are actually still LCD based,” says Bosch. “Make sure you check which technology a screen uses before making your final choice, especially if picture quality is of top importance to you.”
