Vertel my hoe jy voel whatsApp my op 061 593 4581. Tot volgende week Gerhard Olivier

THARINE HURTER

DIE SUITCASE. ‘n Rooi suitcase. As die knippe kis toe is, deug 'n tou net so goed. Die tas weeg 'n ton. Beslis meer as die inhoud

Daaglikse roetine. So is dit koöperasie toe vir 'n O-ring. Daar was nie skootasse nie. 'n Checkers moes doen. Waarborg of nie!

Ek het dit in ’n Engelse vertaling gelees en daar sê dit: “One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years...”

NANKI DU PLESSIS

REMEMBER, YOU’RE WORTHY OF LOVE This is still a lesson in progress actually. Going to Joburg and speaking to Hakeem was what I needed to do. No friend or family member could understand the inner workings of what I was experiencing, and so only he could really make me listen by giving me some tough love… And while I still struggle to accept this and truly believe it in the depths of my soul, I know that I am worthy of love and my trip to Joburg was that reminder. It’s a lot easier to believe the negative of a situation sometimes – to tell yourself how unworthy and undeserving you are of love based off of someone else’s actions saying that. But that’s all it really is – their actions, which only reflect their own character. It has nothing to do with you. While I knew this was going to be a tough pill to swallow on my flight to Joburg, it was undeniably satisfying to also know that Hakeem was being as truthful and honest as he always is. Knowing that I had someone who wanted nothing more than to see me thrive on the other side of the pain that was my roadblock, gave me the reassurance to believe him when he said “Khalipha, you are worthy of love.” If there is another thing you should take away from this post, it is to surround yourself with people who genuinely want to see you win. I’ll forever be grateful to Hakeem for being that light for me in my moment of darkness, and I encourage you to do the same. I don’t have a wide circle of friends but the few that I do have, I know that I can trust them to be little lights in my life and truthfully remind me of the value I have. It may seem silly, or a great idea, to take a flight to a different city that’s provinces away, but it was what I needed to do to get back to being the woman I know I am and who I am becoming. It’s not so much the flight to Joburg that I hope inspires you – rather, the brave act of being spontaneous enough to do what I needed to do to heal and remember how worthy I am.

May this post encourage or inspire you to take your own brave, bold act towards doing the same for you! Love & Light,

DENNY MINI MUSHROOM FLATBREADS INGREDIENTS 250 g Denny portabellini mushrooms sliced 1 Tbsp olive oil 2 cloves garlic finely diced 1 tsp sea salt flakes 4 mini naan or flatbreads 1 x 400g Denny Alfredo Pasta Sauce 1 cup cheddar cheese grated 1 cup mozzarella sliced ¼ cup sundried tomatoes torn into smaller pieces Fresh rocket & chilli for serving

RACKS & RAILS

Post Office open for vehicle licence renewals Motorists and fleet-owners, whose car licences expired during the lockdown, can skip the long queues at the Traffic Department by renewing them at their local Post Office during level 3. According to the Post Office’s spokesperson, Johan Kruger, the service has resumed at all Post Office branches that offer it. He reminded people to carry their identity document and that both cash and card payments are accepted. However, motorists are advised to avoid the period between the 4th and 7th of every month, as branches are usually packed with South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) customers. “Another date to avoid is the 21st of every month. Car owners receive 21 days grace after the expiry of their car licences, and Post Offices find that customers flock to the branches on this day to renew at the last minute,” he explained. Kruger said most branches also do renewals offer a bulk renewal service for fleet owners, however, customers are advised to enquire with their local branches first. He said the service was available in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, North West and Limpopo.

3 SHOCKING BOOT TRENDS THIS SEASON! Bet you didn’t see this coming? We aren’t far off from the moment Mother Nature decides to #fliptheswitch which forces us into a spin that results in everyone uttering the following words like a mexican wave through the nation .... “OMG its freezing!” Tad dramatic? Oh well, don’t act surprised about it either - I am a little dramatic. I think the thing that really set off this tone in me today is the shock and slight horror of these three boot trends that we’re mean’t to see this coming winter. Needless to say - I’m not a fan. But for what’s its worth and for you trendy cool cats out there, here they are:

WHITE BOOTS. While this immediately takes me back to my ‘baby spice’ wannabe days - the truth is that this trend could be a little intimidating for most. But if we really think about it.. it wasn’t long ago that the ‘white sneaker’ made its massive come back and we managed that perfectly fine. So perhaps if we almost swop the ‘white sneaker’ with the ‘white boot’ - we could have something going for us. Whatever you do, do not pair this trend with anything brightly coloured. Stay in the neutral lane. Please!

CHUCKY BOOTS. This one we can swallow a little better. If paired correctly with winter staples and styled with a ‘Dr Marten’ in mind - you’re on to something. Some of the most loved designers have exposed their love affair for the chunky boot this season. With brands like The Row, Bottega Veneta, Chanel and Balenciaga - showing us the reasons to keep this chunky trend alive this winter.

SQUARE-TOE BOOTS. OK, While this is not a new trend, brands are stepping up the anti and adding in a mixture of colours, details and embellishments. So brace yourself - and have a little fun if your OCD allows it. Afterall, what’s that famous saying? “These boots were made for walking..”

HAMILTON JANSEN In baie gevalle is ons , ons eie vyande I mean if there is no devil within you then the devil from outside kan jou niks maak nie. You will never be ready for something unless you do it. Our comfort zone is the one that tells us we are not ready. Ons bly sê when the time is right. Nou luister hier each day has the same 24 hours. And from the 24 hours there are no hours written the right hour or the wrong hour. When Peter walked on the water it wasn't the right time. The bible says there was a storm but he believed that if there is no enemy within then the enemy from outside can do him no harm, and he said Lord if you call me I will come. Is dit nie so nie ... So many of us are sitting in our comfort zones waiting to be called into jobs or businesses. You need to go out there and start saying if You give me a chance for just this 1 thing I won't disappoint. Ons luister te veel na what if " we fail more than what if we don't fail. We only fail when we dive up, but when we continues try we don't fail but learn. You can never concur the world if you are still battling with your own fears. You can never expect people to believe in you if you don't believe in yourself. Always remember that you as a person you are your own brand. Happiness doesn't come with a lot of money but it comes with building a life for yourself. Make a habit of making a success of everything you do. https://www.facebook.com/hamilton.jansen

15 THINGS EVERY MOM SHOULD KNOW

HELENE OLIVIER

Motherhood is fun, funny and hard. Here’s what I’ve learned so far: 15. Laugh at yourself (a lot) The next time you realise that the weird smell that’s been following you around is a smear of poo across your cheek or you talk in a baby voice to thank the waitress for your takeaway cappuccino. Laugh. It. Off. 14. Tell The Occasional White Lie I know it’s wrong, but you are a Mom not Pinocchio! Get over yourself and tell the damn lie (if it means that your kids will finally take a bath, brush their teeth or eat some broccoli). 13. Stop Competing Leave the competitive sport to the Springboks! Find your tribe of Moms that support you no matter what. The ones helping you through all the ups and downs of parenting (along with a cold glass of sauvignon blanc). 12. Take A Time-Out I’m talking about you – not the kids. Me time is important for your body and soul. Read your favourite magazine, watch The Bachelor or take a nap. Ask for help and just do it . 11. Stop Obsessing Over Your Mom-Bod Also remember that spanx are like chocolate, it makes everything better. 10. You’ve Got Super Boobs They might be sagging or drooping but if you are breastfeeding you are providing food for your baby. And nobody really cares about your chest right now except baby… That said, go out and find a bra that fits the size you are now.

9. Keep Your Partner Happy When you both feel happy and connected the world is a better place. So hire a babysitter, watch The Walking Dead when the kids are finally asleep and if all else fails find a way to make your man happy in 5 minutes or less. Hey, a Mama needs her sleep and there are reality shows to be watched. www.prettybelle.co.za

8. You Will Sleep Again (Someday) The Sleep Foundation recommend that adults sleep 7-9 hours per night. After you stop laughing, realise that you can survive on 2 hours sleep each night for 12 months. 7. Do Not Listen To Every Opinion Motherhood is a learning curve. Everybody will throw advice at you but that does not mean you have to listen to them all. Choose your advisors carefully (someone as wise as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones). 6. You Love Your Mom More Than Ever You finally understand what she went through. The Struggle Is Real. Tell her that every time you call her! And ask her advice about the kids, again. 5. Stop Feeling Guilty Make a choice that is right for you and your family. Then make a conscious decision to drop the guilt. 4. Be Proud! You made a human being. He could be the next president or Derek Watts. Charlize Theron or Ellen Degeneres. Make people laugh (like Howie Mandall) or saves people’s lives. He is on earth because of you. You are working harder than you’ve ever worked in your life. All day and all night long. Becoming a mother is life changing but know this: 3. You Won’t Ruin Your Child’s Life 2. Your Mommy-Instincts Are On Track 1. You Are A Good Mom. XOXO Helene, Minki & Joshua www.instagram.com/prettybelle.co.za

HOW TO BE PRODUCTIVE WHEN WORKING FROM HOME Following the Covid-19 pandemic many of us are forced to work from home. But many people face challenges when it comes to staying productive while working from home. It’s no new news that there are many distractions at home especially if this is new to you. If you relate, lolittah is here at your rescue with the following tips on how to be productive at home. DRAFT A SCHEDULE As much as many of us work on a schedule/time-table, it makes sense that we do the same at home. It’s quite simple. You can start with a daily to-do-list. If you like planning way ahead then work on a weekly basis. GET READY Treat your work from home as formally as work. Your time schedule might be flexible but try take it seriously. Wake up and prepare. Working in your Pyjamas might be fun. However it make activate lazy ness after a while and you don’t want that. RID YOURSELF OF DISTRACTIONS It might be nice to have the TV on or Netflix however those breed distractions. Find a distraction free zone. If you have a study room then work from there. If not, create your home workspace. Find a study desk or counter to work on. Some people find music relaxing, for those that work well when there’s music on. Try calming sounds. TRACK YOUR TIME Time management is very important so that you track your progress. Especially when working on deadlines. Often tracking your time helps you avoid procrastinating. It also allows you to see if work is actually getting done. For this you can jot down a list and set time available for each task. To make things simpler, you can search for available digital APPS in store. MIND YOUR FOOD HABITS As much as you take lunch at work. It is important to be mindful of when and what you eat. Try to take in foods that are known to boost your energy and productivity. Take in fruits as your snacks and be sure to hydrate regularily. REMEMBER TO TAKE BREAKS Try not to over work yourself. Give your self at least 15 minutes break depending on your work schedule. This is to help you regain strength. There’s no point in overworking yourself when nothing really gets done.

Protecting children during COVID-19 and beyond The Department of Social Development, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, aims to improve the standard of Early Childhood Development (ECD) across the country, as part of this year’s Child Protection Week campaign. This year’s campaign is being held under the theme: ‘Let Us All Protect Children, During Covid-19 and Beyond’. The partnership between the department and the Nelson Mandela Foundation will culminate with the launch of Vangasali-Every Child Counts Campaign, which is targeting unregistered ECD centres, with the view of assisting them to meet the minimum norms and standards for registration, as stipulated in the Children’s Act (Act No. 38 of 2005). A nationwide audit of ECD centres conducted by the department on the nature and extent of ECD provisioning, services, resources and infrastructure across all nine provinces revealed that a considerable number of centres were unregistered. Vangasali, which means “leave no child or ECD centre behind” in Xitsonga, seeks to change all that by encouraging members of the public to participate in finding ECD centres in their local communities. Members of the public are encouraged to find ECD facilities in their local communities. Once a centre has been identified, members of the public are advised to send the word “ECD” to 082 046 8553 on WhatsApp. The name, details and the geolocation of the centre will be entered into the Govchat database for mapping purposes. This will also assist in determining the coverage of ECD services, particularly in poor and vulnerable communities. The campaign will be rolled out nationwide in three phases, namely find and count (phase 1), categorise (phase 2) and intervention (phase 3). The goal is to provide support packages to all identified ECD centres to progressively register and enhance the delivery of quality ECD services, including nutrition, health and safety of children. The package of ECD registration benefits include amongst other things, access to basic social services such as access to government subsidy in the form of a R15 per child a day for 365 days a year

Basic Education gazettes new regulations on schools reopening

THEN AND NOW: NOSTALGIC GAMES THAT ARE JUST AS EPIC TODAY AS 30 YEARS AGO! Reminiscing about the 2D-animated, bulky video, arcade and Gameboy games not only takes us to days back when, but also shows how far our favourite games have come over the years, allowing us to celebrate the technologically-advanced takes on those incredible old classics.

Pac-Man The iconic yellow face that’s loved in arcades around the world to this very day could very well have been one of the first to popularise video gaming among young people in the 80s. Every Pac-Man experience was inevitably accompanied by onlookers either cheering players on or shouting out instructions on which direction players should go: “Go left! No, the other left!” Aside from a few new and contemporary takes on Pac-Man games, toy releases and shows, the basic Pac-Man game hasn’t changed much since it was first released – and why would it? PacMan remains a cultural icon that will live on through the ages and continued to be loved (and played) by old and young alike.

Mario Everything about Super Mario brings waves of nostalgia – from the famously catchy earworm of a theme song to the satisfying ding! of collecting coins and boing each time Mario jumps. Today, parents are introducing their own kids to the wonders of Super Mario through games like Mario Kart and the epic Super Mario Maker series that allows players to create their own courses. Choose the Super Mario 3D World theme for a new school take, keep it retro with 2D elements, or combine both worlds for the whole family to enjoy.

From classic combat games to the loveable round yellow faces and Italian plumbers we all know and love, the nostalgia of our favourite video games and characters continues to live on – even as our favourite video game take on new and exciting modern twists to keep the next generation of gamers entertained.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has gazetted new regulations that will see the phased return of other grades from 6 July - 3 August 2020. Following the return of grades 7 and 12, the Basic Education Department (DBE) said it would monitor the adherence of schools to the stipulated health and safety guidelines before moving to return learners in other grades to the classroom. Schools were shut as the country went on lockdown from 27 March 2020 in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety guidelines for the reopening of schools state that teachers and learners must have adequate personal protective equipment (PPE), social distancing of 1.5 metres must be adhered to and screening must take place at schools. In the regulations published on 29 May 2020, the department outlines that grades R, 3, 6, 10, 11 and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres will return to the school grounds on 6 July 2020. Learners in year 2 and 3 of schools of skills will also return on 6 July 2020. Also returning on 6 July are schools for learners with severe intellectual disabilities, starting with Grades R, 1, 2, 3 and 6. Special care centres for learners with severe and profound intellectual disabilities will also return on 6 July, with learners in year 1 - 3. From 3 August 2020, grades 4, 5, 8 and 9. Schools of skills will also welcome back learners in year 1 on 3 August. Grades 4 and 5 at schools for learners with severe intellectual disabilities will also make a return on 3 August 2020. While the department has mapped out the dates of return, it emphasised that this will only take place if schools have complied with the minimum health, safety and social distancing measures on COVID-19. “A school or office that has failed to comply with the minimum health, safety and social distancing measures on COVID-19, as contemplated in these directions and regulations, will remain closed until all the health, safety and social distancing measures are in place,” the regulations state. According to the directions in the gazetted regulations, parents who choose not to send a learner to school, must apply to the Head of Department, who may exempt a learner either entirely, partially or conditionally, from compulsory school attendance, if it is in the best interests of the learner. A parent who chooses not to send their child to school is also obliged to apply for home education. All events at schools, including sport, choral eisteddfods or choir rehearsals, arts and culture festivals remain suspended. Officials, teachers and learners, who commute between provinces, metropolitans and districts for school, will be allowed to move, provided they have the relevant permit.

WHEELS

AARTO rollout date delayed due to COVID-19 The national rollout date for the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act has been postponed as a result of the outbreak of the Coronavirus. In August 2019, the AARTO Bill was signed into law. Although no date was officially promulgated, it was intended to take national effect by mid-2020. The Transport department said the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak severely compromised the capacity of the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA), which is the entity responsible for the rollout of AARTO. As a result of the outbreak, RTIA could not determine the rollout date and has suffered severe loss of revenue to support the preparatory activities. “For this reason, RTIA is in no position, at this stage, to successfully conduct the national rollout of AARTO. The situation will be reviewed in due course for further determination as to when the rollout date will be promulgated,” said the department

IS THIS THE TOYOTA HILUX FACELIFT FOR 2021? A month back we reported that Toyota was working on a facelift for its popular Hilux bakkie, and this is apparently how it's going to look. The pictures that you see here were allegedly leaked from an official source and recently appeared on the Milele Motors website. While one of them is a rendering, the others appear to be photos of the actual vehicle, although we won't know for sure until Toyota officially unveils the updated bakkie. While the new look is not a radical departure, the upcoming model does get a larger trapezoidal grille that gives it a more menacing stare, while new Bi-Beam LED headlights lend a more modern look. The renderings also show the redesigned halogen headlights, which will feature on the lower-spec models. At the back end we see fresh taillights, featuring vertically stacked ‘C’ shaped LED elements, as well as a redesigned tailgate with creases that flow into the lights. What else do we know about the facelifted Hilux? According to CarAdvice, the 2.8-litre flagship turbodiesel engine is getting an overhaul, which will also bring a power boost although no numbers have been mentioned as yet. For the record, the current 2.8 GD-6 motor produces 130kW and up to 450Nm depending on the gearbox. Dare we suggest Toyota will be playing catchup to the Nissan Navara 2.3D and the next-generation Isuzu D-Max 3.0, both of which offer 140kW and 450Nm. The Australian publication also mentioned that the interior update will include updated connectivity, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone mirroring becoming available. Toyota is also rumoured to be working on a more hardcore GR Hilux that will serve as a direct rival to the Ford Ranger Raptor. The revised Hilux is set to go on sale in Australia around August, but at this stage it’s not known when it will reach South Africa. But surely it can't be too far off...

Drought relief extension welcomed Assistance needed urgently ► ANA Agri SA has welcomed the announcement by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma that the proclamation of drought relief will be extended by a further month, but added that urgent assistance is needed. The summer rainfall season had passed without sufficient rain in most of the regions affected by the devastating drought conditions. The lingering drought had had far-reaching consequences for agriculture and had been catastrophic for local economies in the drought-stricken areas. On Friday, Finance Minister Tito Mboweni issued another notice in the Government Gazette for the immediate provision of unallocated disaster relief funds. However, it was unknown to Agri SA if the R466.4 million referred to was for the coronavirus (Covid19) pandemic or drought disaster relief. Farmers urgently required assistance if their farming operations, workers, and communities and the fragile local economies were to survive. Agri SA was hopeful that some of the funds announced on Friday would be allocated to much needed drought relief, Symington said.
