In baie gevalle sonder ‘n salaris. Lekker lag! Groete Gerhard Olivier

THE BIBLE IS NOT YOUR AK47 AND IT'S VERSES AREN'T YOUR BULLETS Met erkenning aan die skepper van dié sin. Dis 'n feit soos 'n koei. This too shall pass. The good, the bad and the ugly, kry 'n make-over.

Pragtig. En nou bly geloof, hoop en liefde. Hierdie drie. Ware liefde is onvoorwaardelik. 1 Kor 13 sê, dis:- geduldig, vriendelik, verheug hom oor die waarheid. Bedek alles, glo alles, hoop alles, verdra alles. 1 Joh 4 : 7 – 11 Gaan lees hele gedeelte. God is liefde. God IS liefde. Die Here kom wys Sy liefde so ongelooflik prakties in Joh 3 : 16. 2 Liefde is 'n werkwoord. 3 Liefde lê in fisiese handelinge. Het jy vir jou vrou of man of kinders 'n drukkie gegee?

Petrol price for July 2020: Brace yourselves, a monster increase is coming The official petrol price is set to skyrocket in July, as the demand for oil takes off once more. The forecast spike will go a long way towards wiping out the huge decreases seen this year. Figures from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) show that the petrol price for July 2020 could rise by up to R1.59per-litre. The predicted price of diesel is also similarly eyewatering, rising by as much as R1.48-per-litre in two weeks’ time. Although the rand has staged a significant recovery against the US dollar, it hasn’t been enough to mitigate the oil surge. South Africa is largely dependent on fuel imports, so when the need for ‘black gold’ rises, so do our diesel and petrol prices. Fears over a localised fuel shortage in SA have also done the consumer no favours. Taking these forecasts and first estimates into account, here’s what you can expect to pay for fuel (price-per-litre) from the first week of July onwards. However, we have to stress that these mid-month estimates are liable to change by the time the Department of Energy set next month’s costs in stone COASTAL: Petrol: R14.29, Diesel: R12.28 INLAND: Petrol: R14.79, Diesel: R12.88 Courtesy: The South African

HAMILTON JANSEN Someone needs to hear this, When someone makes it hard for you to make it in life, you make it hard for them to make it hard for you to make it. Tell them they're going to need a poison stronger than that! Don't make it easy for someone to take you out of what God has put you in. Tell the enemy those weapons are not sharp enough to take you out. Tell those jealous people trouble makers to bring it on, because you know how to swim. Tell the storm that you're going through to wait for the rainbow. Remember what you have survived! See you know how to make it jys al deur baie meer moeiliheid. That sickness didn't take you out. That accident didn't take you out. That lie didn't take you out. That abuse didn't take you out. Nothing is going to take you out of what God has put you in. People are attracted to your spirit. People are being used by the enemy to stop you from becoming who you are destined to become. They are trying to stop you from stepping fully into your calling. That's why they keep making you uncomfortable. Trap die duiwel op sy kop. Don't let anyone take you out. You can let them in, but don't let them take you out. You don't have to fight this battle because God has fought the battles for you longtime already. He says, "Keep doing what you know to do. Your work is sufficient.“ When you are not used to conflict, you don't know how to handle conflict. But others have made conflict their business. They use conflict as a tool for manipulation. Don't let them take you where they want you to go. - OFM Nuus

JEANNE-RIETTE MARTINS

EASY PORTUGUESE BEEF TRINCHADO INGREDIENTS 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 3 tbsp butter 3 tbsp olive oil 1,5 kg cubed beef sirloin or similar 2 white onions chopped 3 small red chili peppers chopped (retain seeds) 3-4 tsp minced garlic 2 tbsp corn flour Maizena 1 cup beef stock 1 cup red wine 2 bay leaves 1 tbsp sugar 75 g tomato paste 2 tbsp tomato sauce salt & pepper

INSTRUCTIONS Combine Worcester sauce and soy sauce and marinade the beef cubes in the mixture for 30 minutes to an hour. This will tenderise the meat. Drain marinade well into a separate bowl before cooking the beef. In a large pan, heat 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp olive oil over medium high heat. When the butter is sizzling, add about a quarter of the beef cubes (not letting them touch) and brown well, about 3-4 minutes. Brown the meat in batches, adding 1 tbsp butter and olive oil each inbetween the batches. Once a batch is done, set it aside in a dish to rest. Once all the meat has browned, reduce heat and add onion, chili with seeds and cook for about 5 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for another minute. Sprinkle over the corn flour and stir continuously for about 2 minutes. Add the stock, balsamic vinegar, red wine and bay leaves. Stir until the sauce thickens and simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and tomato sauce, then add in the beef cubes and their juices and simmer gently for a further 10 minutes. Matrikulant deel COVID-19 ervaring YOU’VE GOT TO STAY STRONG

Amidst these tough time, we’re all surely wondering how we are going to survive this lockdown. We definitely need to stay strong. Hold on till it dies down. Anxiety has kicked in for the most of us. Especially now that the lockdown has been extended. I know I was counting down to the last few days. Although deep down I knew that there was a high possibility that it could be extended. It definitely is hard to believe anyways. But my question to you is, how are you holding up? Are you in a safe space? Are you mentally and physically ok? I think these are the important questions that I ask my loved ones. You really don’t want to be stuck in a place where days drag to years. If the answer to the questions above is yes, consider yourself blessed. If the answer is no, there are a lot of channels opened up to help you. Especially those that are abused in these trying times. Don’t be afraid to speak out. Take a moment and pray. Pray for you, your family and friends. Pray for the country and all the people in the front line to help us get out of this healthy and safe. One thing I’ve learnt as the days of the lockdown went by is that prayer does heal the weary. Take time out if needs be. Give yourself that break because now of all times you need the strength and courage to keep on. Call your loved ones regularly if needs be, more especially if you are alone during the lockdown. It will help you feel closer to someone. Remember, you are strong and you can do this. xoxo – Lolittah

Ek stap na my klas. Ek laat sak my skooltas van my skouer af en soos ek na my vriende stap klop my hart in my keel (tipiese eerste dag van skool gevoel). Ek haal my bril af om my my vriende se bekende glimagte te sien, maar soos ek doen sien ek net 'n kring kinders, elkeen staan 1.5 meter uit mekaar uit, elkeen se warm glimlagte is verskuil agter een of ander vorm van 'n lap. My skouers sak, my oë begin brand.

WILL CORONAVIRUS CHANGE THE FASHION WORLD AS WE KNEW IT PRE-COVID?

Can we really imagine a world where fashion is deemed unnecessary or tackless, given the harsh realities Covid-19 has forced our way? As much as we probably find it hard to see the need for flashy glam designs - Designs that we would have traditionally welcomed with open arms at the start of each fashion season. However, The reality is that while we all sit back and watch in disbelief as the world begins to adjust to the new-normal. The fashion landscape has been subjected to similar reformmeets-crisis-management before. While we acknowledge that the 2008 recession and the 2020 Covid-19 crisis have entirely different harm potential. There are similiarities we can draw when it comes to the business side of it all. The hit of the 2008 recession had us questioning the survival of brands, logos and the need of unapologetic materialism. Now with the Coronavirus pandemic, we sense similar uncertainties as we hear about many fashion leaders around the world resetting the ways of working. Considering new routes, different channels, new muses and drawing fresh conclusions. This time around, we are a little more understanding that a pandemic doesn’t necessarily mean - doom & gloom. Its more about improvising, adjusting and evolving to the circumstances that surround us. Improvising the usual flashy, extra looks to more sophisticated laid back glam. Adjusting our perceptions of what is commercially desirable. Evolving our products to suit the need state of all style communities. One thing is for sure - this is merely a fork in the road we are on.. we will see the days again where we can get all dressed up for a night out dancing. No doubt! Looking on 12 years since the 2008 recession crisis - we were in a world were human content creation is part of daily and hourly outputs. A world were everyone has a right to do and be who they want to. A world were nothing can go undocumented. A world where our fresh faced Gen Z’s have come in with a whole new perspective on how and when they want to be acknowledge. So, looking on from where this pandemic could take our pretty industry is exciting - is it not? How can we, knowing what we know now, sit back and want things to go back to normal? What was normal? Are we ok with normal? Have we honestly learn’t nothing in these last 12 years? As Mr Darwin said, its about survival of the fittest. So lets adapt, lets embrace this new-world. Lets get excited about what’s to come and lets support this sentiment across industries www.racksandrails.co.za

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO HAVE PRENATAL DEPRESSION: MY STORY

editor@rekordmediafs.co.za | 09

HELENE OLIVIER

I’m a happy person. Let me rephrase that: I use to be a happy person. Let me just say that while I’m writing this I’m thinking of not posting it. Why? Because it’s embarrassing, it’s personal and I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there ready and willing to judge me. But here goes… I’m Pregnant But… I’m pregnant but I’m depressed. I know it’s wrong and it’s frowned upon because how can you be depressed when you are so blessed? Please don’t get me wrong – This is not to dismiss the miracle of pregnancy but to address a very real condition. While it seems like postnatal depression is widely accepted and talked about it occurred to me that prenatal depression is frowned upon and most women keep quiet about it. There is the expectation that a woman’s experience of pregnancy should always be joyous, but the truth is that pregnant women often put emotional and mental pressure on themselves to feel happy all the time. I’m in the middle of it right now and it’s hard. It’s so damn hard. Feeling Anxious… It was a slow downward spiral for me since the first moment I realised I was pregnant. I was overwhelmed with fear, not joy because I could not imagine that I have to go through hyperemesis graviderum (extreme nausea) again. Read my previous blogpost about this crippling disease. And the worst part? I tried. I really tried. I try every single day to be positive. To stop the constant worrying. To not be anxious. But it’s like an uncontrollable wave bursting over me and I’m drowning. I cannot control it. Nothing is funny anymore, I avoid my friends, I dread each day. I cry a lot – out of desperation, fear, when I vomit, when I lie down, when I try to explain these feelings to those close to me. Admitting The Truth… It’s not something I’m proud of but it happened. And it happened to me. Bubbly, happy go lucky Helene. It just did. I got sucked in a big black hole and I miss my life. I look at photographs where I’m healthy and happy and I long for those days. One morning I woke up with unbearable ear pain, a pain that shot down to my throat. I went to the doctor, thinking it’s an ear infection, but he surprised me by asking (out of the blue): “Are you very anxious about something?” Needless to say his kind tone was all I needed to spill the beans and I told him everything about my fear for nausea, my anxiety attacks, how I cannot enjoy this pregnancy because I’m constantly paralysed with fear. He just sat there, listened and then he said: “I would never wish HG on any of my patients. It’s a horrible, crippling disease. But the reason for your ear pain is because you are so stressed out. We need to find you help and you need to find a way to cope and maybe even start to enjoy your pregnancy.” The Turning Point… www.prettybelle.co.za

That visit was the turning point. My body was literally getting sick, because of the constant angst and fear. I realised then that I needed help and that I could not go on like this anymore. After speaking to my gynea, we decided that I need to take a mild anti-depressant amongst other lifestyle changes (eat better, exercise more) and I’m not sharing this to promote anti-depressants during your pregnancy! I’m just sharing my story, because I’m sure that somewhere there’s maybe someone who’s feeling the same desperate feelings. You Are Not Alone… It’s such a cliché but you really are not alone: One in ten woman is suffering with the condition during some point in their pregnancy. At a time when everyone expect you to be glowing, I was down in the dumps and couldn’t’ deal with the stress and anxiety by myself anymore, my brain checked out. The Way Forward… I still have a long way to go, but I’m already seeing light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Thanks to my Mom, who had to console me endless times, my doctor Dad who puts me on IV drips to stop the nausea and of course my patient hubby, who just wants me to get back to my old self. My lovely little baby girl, suddenly so grown up, who just wants her Mommy to get better to play and laugh with her again. I’m not there yet… but I’m on my way and for now that’s enough for me. *’If you feel down at least every other day for a couple of weeks, see your GP to rule out pregnancy depression. Your GP will be able to diagnose your symptoms, and help you get the support you need. Until next time… Helene www.instagram.com/prettybelle.co.za

KHALIPHA NTLOKO

Everything seems alright with my physical body in these past 2 weeks (except for a painful Abscess Tooth I’ve had to sort out), but there has been this dynamic shift in my mind and soul that’s caused me to take 1000 steps back along my journey of healing my broken little heart. It’s no secret that I experienced the most emotionally traumatic moment of my young life a year ago – the strange phenomenon called ‘ghosting’. It’s a different kind of pain, to open up to someone and forge a beautiful connection with them, only to have those ties cut suddenly and without warning. And there’s no amount of information that prepares you for such a moment… I thought my years of studying Psychology would help me deal with the vast amounts of emotions I was going through at the time, but really, so much of it was suppression and compartmentalizing the sad emotions I didn’t want to face head on. And then I thought I was on my way to dealing with things when I was reminded, months later, that ghosting has nothing to do with me – it’s a reflection of that person’s character and their choice to act on their own will. But thinking like this seemed like an encouragement to not take ownership for the pain I was feeling, and to hide behind the idea that love is a beautiful thing – I’m just not meant to have it. I’m not enough for the very thing I hope to truly experience one day. I lost my sense of self worth all because a boy wasn’t man enough to say he no longer wanted me. This notion of self worth was a challenge for me, and I found myself opening up to one of the most beautiful human beings I’ve come across – Hakeem Anderson-Lesolang. As I listened to his podcast “Being Enough” I was heavily impacted by the words “I am whole regardless of someone else’s love. I am whole regardless of someone else’s regard.” I’m far from perfect, but wow, I listened to this podcast and realised I’ve lost my sense of being enough for me. I’ve forgotten that my purpose and sense of being isn’t found in another person, and in turn cannot be lost because of another person. I find this in a higher authority, the God in heaven who’s placed all the love, purpose and peace well inside me – and I lost this insight when I got blinded by being ghosted. In a recent conversation with Hakeem, he presented the concept of ‘Expansion’ to me – trusting that the severe turmoil I’m in right now is happening because God deems it necessary. It’s breaking but doing so beautifully because God will collect the pieces to make me whole again. Oak trees didn’t come to be the great trees that they are without branches that broke through the stem and trunk. In a similar fashion, greatness won’t magically appear from me – I need to expand. Truth be told, ‘Expansion’ hurts. There’s nothing pretty about having to face the cold emotions I’ve kept buried away to gather dust, but I’m writing this post to tell you that if you ever find yourself in a place where it’s time for introspection, consider that the dark spot you’re currently in is a seed that’s been placed in soil, and the pain you’re experiencing is ‘Expansion’. Love yourself enough to know that this is part of growing into the greatness that’s meant for you. God’s got you, so expand, and do so gloriously! With love,

LEAKED PATENT PIC IMPLIES THAT MERCEDES-AMG IS WORKING ON A GLB 45 Given that the Mercedes-Benz GLB is more practical and rough-road-friendly than most other members of the three pointed star family, you likely wouldn’t have thought it an ideal candidate for the ‘full-fat’ AMG ‘45’ treatment. But these days carmakers seem to have an “if not, why not” approach to these kinds of things, which is why it’s likely that we’ll soon see a Mercedes-AMG GLB 45. This is strongly implied by a set of leaked patent images, which first appeared on the Automobile website. The leaked renderings show some unique design features not seen on the GLB 35 AMG, including quad exhausts. If it ever sees light of day, the Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 will inevitably offer the same powertrain choices as the GLA and A-Class ‘45’ models, which are powered by the world’s most potent production four-cylinder engine. In ‘standard’ GLB 45 guise you can expect it to offer 285kW and 480Nm, while the GLB 45 S will be good for 310kW and 500Nm. Both versions of the 2-litre engine rev higher than you expect from a turbo unit, producing their peak power at 6750 and 6500rpm respectively. The engine will inevitably be paired with the familiar eight-speed DCT 8G dual-clutch gearbox and AMGtuned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which can also selectively distribute torque between the rear wheels as needed thanks to the presence of two multi-disc clutches in the rear diff. At this stage there has been no actual confirmation of a Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 model, but the patent images imply that it’s more likely than not. Watch this space.

Employees diagnosed with COVID-19 to return to work under strict conditions The Department of Employment and Labour has refuted media claims that COVID-19 patients no longer need to test negative to resume work. "It is not correct that COVID-19 patients no longer need to test negative to resume work," said the department’s Chief Inspector for Health and Safety, Tibor Szana. However, according to Szana, in terms on the new directions, if a worker has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and completed the mandatory 14 days of self-isolation as per the Department of Health guidelines, an employer may only allow a worker to return. Other conditions include the worker undergoing a medical evaluation confirming fitness to work if they had a moderate or severe illness in relation to COVID-19, he explained. “It was vital for the employer to ensure that personal hygiene, wearing of masks, social distancing, and cough etiquette amongst other known best practices identified is strictly adhered to by the worker and, the employer must closely monitor the worker for symptoms upon returning to work." The employee may also be required to wear a surgical mask at least for the period of 21 days from the date of the diagnosis in their interest and the best interest of those around them especially, the department said. According to the new directive, the employer must assess that worker's exposure in accordance with the Department of Health’s guidelines if they have been in contact with the employee who has tested positive to ascertain whether it carries a high or low risk of transmission between staff. “If there is low-risk exposure, the employer may permit the worker to continue working using a cloth mask complying with standard precautions and, the worker's symptoms must be monitored for 14 days from the first contact,” he said. In addition, if there is a high risk of exposure the worker must remain in quarantine for 14 days, and the employer must place the worker on sick leave, Szana added. People are encouraged to continue to adhere to the lockdown regulations. "Stay home, wash your hands regularly and keep maintaining the social distance.” Employers who need further clarity on understanding and interpreting the direction can contact the Chief Inspector on 082 883 5737.

SA posts healthy agricultural trade surplus

| 13

The South African agriculture sector has increased its trade surplus by 16% in the first quarter of 2020, with minimal disruptions experienced due to the coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic. In the first quarter of the year, which is the period before the [COVID-19) lockdowns were implemented across the globe, South Africa’s agricultural trade was vibrant. The country recorded an agricultural trade surplus of US$773 million (about R13,2 billion). This is up 16% year-on-year, with exports having increased at a much higher rate than imports.” Current exports consisted of grapes, maize, wine, wool, pears, apples, plums, lemons and macadamia nuts, among other agricultural products. “We expect these products to continue underpinning South Africa’s agricultural exports in the second quarter of 2020, but with some decline in wine exports, which had briefly been impacted by domestic lockdown regulations.” Citrus would feature prominently from the second quarter onwards, as exports for this year were expected to reach a record 143,3 million cartons for the Southern Africa region. Trade statistics released by the South African Revenue Service for January to April, showed the country’s total trade balance for all sectors was minus R326,97 million, with exports down 3,5% compared with the corresponding period last year. “The decline in exports was led by the minerals and precious stone [sectors], as mining operations and exports were affected by the COVID-19 crisis in the first quarter of 2020.”
