Kreatiewe talent se passie word ‘n suksesvolle besigheid!

Nestlè discontinues Chocolate Log Nestlé has announced it will be discontinuing the production of their Chocolate Log product in South Africa from August.

My kollega en vriendin, Hesti Wessels is 'n drukkiemens. Dis dalk my liefdestaal. Maar hierdie virus-situasie begin sy tol eis. Ek MIS daai onverwagse drukkie by die winkel. As hy my liggies wil tackle is dit so...dan stoei ek terug. Omdat my liggaam halt geroep het. So…as Corona Smorona my wil kom haal beteken dit my finale streep is getrek. So hoekom vrees hê? Bang wees? Jy weet mos wat in jou binneste aangaan. https://www.facebook.com/Kroonstad-Times-368326463896514/

PASOP! Sy kom toe daar staan en sê: “Here, hinder dit U nie dat my suster my alleen laat bedien nie? Sê sy moet my kom help! My ek-plekkie sluit natuurlik dikwels my vrou in, wanneer ons die hele wêreld reg probeer filosofeer. Mag daar ook in hierdie dag vir jou 'n ek-plekkie wees waar die sorge van die lewe in die grond in kan wegsyfer.

Last night I watched the Dreamworks film Rise of the Guardians. There is one thing that stood out to me. When talking to Jack Frost one of the guardians told him to look at a simple Russian doll, it had many layers, he said each layer represented a part of his character. He said some times he is courageous, other times jolly, but then he came to the center piece, and said but all of these things that I do come from my center, which is full of wonder. He asked Jack Frost, what is your center. Because it is out of the center of his being flows all that he is. The bible says: Pro 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. What is your center. Is it kindness, love, gentleness, compassion. God’s goal is to keep our center good. Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance

You can't control someone's loyalty. No matter how good you are to people, that doesn't mean they'll treat you the same. No matter how much they mean to you, doesn't mean they'll value you the same. But never let that turn you into a person you're not. Remember there will always be one negative person who criticizes you. No matter what people thinks about you or talk behind your back, your place in this world is unique and nobody but nobody can ever fill it like you. People will let you down no matter what you have done for them in the past. No matter how hard you try to do good to other's, people will ways have a problem with what you doing and achieving in life. Always remember that as long as you live you will get people that will talk poorly and try to discredit you always maak nie saak wat jy doen nie hulle sal jou sleg maak net om jou by te kom but Don't consume yourself with trying to please people, moet jou nie moeg maak met sulke mense nie, you can't control what others think and say about you but you can control how you choose to react to it just leave them to their own judgment the people that are meant to be in your life will love and respect for who you are that's important.. Don't listen to people who make you feel like nothing good will ever come from your life, and are always throwing your failures and your past in your face. God doesn’t see your past. He has forgiven your mistakes. He has said this is a new day. Let people talk , God has a plan for all of us , our blessings come in stages . TALKING TO STRANGERS – WHAT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE WE DON’T KNOW, BY MALCOLM GLADWELL Allen Lane/ Penguin Books Malcolm Gladwell is a bestselling, interesting and insightful writer credited with developing the 10 000 hours theory of success: anyone can be an “overnight” winner when they’ve put in the hard work, usually around 10 000 hours of it. Until Talking to Strangers, I’d read two of his books, The Tipping Point and Outliers, both of which I found fascinating. Actually Talking to Strangers is interesting too, full of striking anecdotes about how strangers tend to misunderstand each other, often with fatal consequences. A story familiar to most of us is that of the meetings between Britain’s Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and Adolf Hitler in Germany a year or so before the outbreak of World War 2. Hitler was being increasingly bellicose and, amid fears of war, Chamberlain went to see him to judge whether he was going to be satisfied with annexing Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland, or whether he had wider territorial ambitions.

Hy is my "companion". 3) Wat vind jy is die sterkpunte in hierdie ras? Veg, vlug of vries jou hond? 9) Is opleiding nodig? In my opinie Ja.

When I started my very first blog 3 years ago, (Always Rise Blog), alongside my dormant YouTube channel (Always Khalipha), I did this because, at the time, I felt like there weren’t enough black, female and Cape Town-based YouTubers and bloggers for me to look up to as I started discovering various aspects of myself in varsity. Of course, location isn’t really the biggest problem when it comes to finding a source of inspiration (I mean, I look up to Beyonce and she’s living her best life continents away), but there’s something about a more localised role model that helps me better connect and trust the person I look up. So I took the age old saying “Be the change you want to see in the world” and figured I’d fill this gap and become the very role model I was looking for in Cape Town. Fast forward to years later, and a decently established brand under my belt, I still find my journey as a content creator continually growing. But with that comes all these doubts about my work – more so, wondering if I am actually seen as a creative. I remember reading a tweet from someone, saying how ‘slept on’ and not-so-recognised my creative work is – particularly the beauty portraits I’ve fallen in love with capturing. I couldn’t help but agree because it left me thinking “Why doesn’t my high quality photos ever reach the 500 Like mark?”, “Why am I not seen for all the hours I put into a single photo or video?” and “How come my content is not nearly as viewed as the next creator?” Comparison really is the thief of joy, because I fell into this slump of thinking that perhaps I shouldn’t actually be creating content when I am so small compared to other creators with a higher following. Then again, how on earth can I expect to be seen and recognised if I have a limiting and comparative mindset like this? While I was watching a Peter McKinnon YouTube vlog, I came across a guy named Cody, who shared his philosophy of #NoSmallCreator – how he doesn’t believe that the words ‘small’ and ‘creation’ can be in the same sentence because creation is so big and unlimited that adding the word ‘small’ to it is an oxymoron; a kind of impossible concept. A light bulb switched on in my head then, and my ‘Why’ for being a content creator resurfaced beneath all my doubt. You see, much like my old blog and YouTube channel, I aim to inspire people with the content that I create – from photos and videos to blog posts like this one, and much like creation, inspiration is not limited to a set amount of people. No matter how small I may feel, or how my following may be even smaller compared to other fantastic creators, the numbers will never take away from the fact that my creations are worthy to be seen – whether by 10 people or 10 000.

LG’S K61 SETS THE TONE FOR MID-RANGE EXCELLENCE.

The latest release of LG’s new mobile phone the K61, has brought many different questions around the release of the mid range phone and how it performs when it comes packed with five built in cameras! LG are dubbing this the #PentaCamera smartphone and we got the opportunity to test it out! Making sure to jump right in, we’ll start with the basics. The phone packs 4GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB internal storage options. There is also a microSD card slot available for expansion of storage (up to 2TB). The quad camera setup at the back of the LG K61 includes a 48-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel super wide camera, a 2-megapixel macro shooter, and a 5-megapixel depth camera. The camera is the huge selling point of this device, I mean, it’s not everyday that a phone boasts five cameras. It’s WideAngle 118° camera captures wider scenery as well as more people in one screen, which makes a great addition to the camera and incentivises the user to create better shots. We got pretty in depth with the camera and found that it packs a pretty mean macro function allowing you to get up close and personal for those creative shots. Also, a 16 megapixel camera makes any selfie look good and LG clearly have their priorities straight as the camera includes beauty mode and many other functions to get the insta-worthy shot. A robust 4,000mAh battery, DTS:X 3D Surround Sound for realistic 7.1-channel experience with headphones and MILSTD-810G standard for durability all add to the attractiveness of the LG’s new K61 for consumers eager to upgrade from their mediocre smartphone experience while staying within budget. Not just that, but the phone is generally a good looking one! Boasting a dedicated Google Assistant button and back panel finger print reader means you’ve got personalised security on the go. Probably one of the best looking features on this device is the #PentaCamera. LG just knew how to implement it without making it look unnecessarily flashy. The LG K61 has definitely made its mark, whether you’re a budding mobile photographer or just looking at a brand-new upgrade to a phone with powerful specs (at a mid range price), we feel like this one could be for you! https://www.gotrend.co.za

HOW TO FIND YOUR STYLE? More often these days, people are asking ‘how do you know what your style is’? Truthfully, this question can be a lot more complicated if your first instinct when buying items is “Its cool, i like it”. Such a general acceptable understanding of purchasing behaviour right? If you find yourself struggling to make your closet work for you, or have your clothes represent exactly who you are then you need to find your personal style. Take a look at your closet, is it full of ‘cool, i like it’ items - is it a combination of piece-meal items that you have without an actual plan? This could be daunting most mornings when trying to put a look together. So here are some tips to help you identify exactly what your personal style is and how you can maintain and manage your wardrobe better.

1.

DOCUMENT YOUR OUTFITS

What do you have? How do you style them? Are there any consistencies?

2. IDENTIFY A COLOUR SCHEME Max 5 colours - build a basis to work off and compliment with added items seasonally.

3. ASSESS YOUR CURRENT WARDROBE What suits your personality? What suits your body?

4. IDENTIFY YOUR BODY STYLE Longer legs? Shorter Torso? Vice Versa? Broad shoulders? Hips? Booty?

5. WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED COMFORT LEVEL AND DAILY ACTIVITIES? Heels vs flats vs loose vs structured vs soft vs flows vs short vs long. You get the picture. Its time to be ruthless and considered. Follow these steps to achieve your timeless wardrobe that you own, the most basic standard pieces that you know you will still be wearing 3 years from now. www.racksandrails.co.za

Appeal to South African Citizens from the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize As Government, we have mobilized every resource, every faculty and wherewithal at our disposal to effect the necessary interventions. But government cannot manage this unilaterally. Every single South African now needs to focus on adhering to recommendations pertaining to non-pharmaceutical interventions. We are extremely concerned that fatigue seems to have set in and South Africans are letting down their guard at a time when the spread of infection is surging. We see poor or no social distancing in communities. Masks are being abandoned or not worn properly and there is laxity setting in around frequent hand-washing. This will directly influence the rise in numbers in the next two weeks. We must all appreciate that there is a direct causal link between the surge of cases and our ability, or inability, to ad- here to these very basic principles. We do not have a vaccine. We do not have a cure. Our ability to break the cycle of infection depends on our willingness to remain focused and disciplined and take non-pharmaceutical interventions seriously. We can beat this pandemic together. We have already proved this during the lockdown. It remains in each and every citizen’s hands to admonish family members, colleagues, friends. who refuse to adhere to measures that protect lives by limiting the spread of this virus. Dr Zwelini Mkhize Minister of Health

Doctors explain how to handle testing positive for Covid-19 With Covid-19 infections expected to spike in coming days citizens are facing an increased chance of contracting the virus. Briefly.co.za explores what to do if that test comes back positive. Dr Karin van der Merwe and Dr Varanna Gharbaharan have weighed in on what to do if you or someone you know tests positive for Covid-19. Covid-19 numbers are increasing in South Africa and it is inevitable that many of us will get infected. Some will be diagnosed by having a positive Covid-19 test while others may have typical symptoms and a false negative test or no test at all. The question then remains: what should you do if you are pretty sure you have Covid-19? 1. Keep calm Most people will be asymptomatic and at least 95% of those infected will recover completely. Only 10-15% of symptomatic people will need hospitalisation, which means 85% of symptomatic people will experience mild flu-like illnesses at home. Continue reading on Page 13

WHY YOU SHOULD LET YOUR KIDS DRESS THEMSELVES

They say motherhood is a rewarding experience. To be honest some days I don’t feel like I’m getting any rewards. One reward of motherhood was putting together outfits for Minki. But now she’s laying down the law regarding her clothing choices. She’s no longer granting me that one teeny tiny little favor.

CHECK OUT MY CHEAT-LIST TO MAKE YOUR UNCOOPERATIVE TODDLER STILL LOOK CUTE RIGHT HERE! So I did what any respectable Mom would do. I hit Google for a solution. And according to Parents.com congratulations are in order. Why?

LET THEM CHOOSE Provide choices. You still get to pick her outfits (just make sure to pick two outfits that you love) and she gets to choose one of the two.

LET THEM CHILL Ah, the wonderful winter coat struggle. You know it’s freezing outside + Kiddo is not cold inside = winter coat struggle. Solution: Take kiddos jacket with you and go. If she’s cold, she will ask for her jacket, before she’s frozen. Lesson learned. Next time remind her gently how cold it was.

LET THEM LOOK Jane Nelsen, Ed.D., co-author of Positive Discipline for Preschoolers says kids this age love looking at photos of themselves. Create a step by step picture guide of morning activities. Photos where kiddo wakes up, brush her teeth, eat porridge, and get dressed. Then the chart is in control (and the bad cop), not you!

LET THEM DRESS THEMSELVES Obviously kiddo does not have the same urgency to get out of the front door and would much rather watch Lollos for the 42nd time. But plan ahead because not only is it helpful when a child can dress him or herself, but it’s also beneficial to kiddo in many ways. They work on building up strength, range of motion, coordination, memory, sequencing, spatial awareness, and body awareness, as well as learn how to complete a daily activity that is important and meaningful to them. Sorry, that was teacher talk. But you get the idea? Enjoy shopping (while you can)! Stay Stylish Helene (& Minki) www.prettybelle.co.za

Doctors explain how to handle testing positive for Covid-19 From Page 12 The chance of hospitalisation increases with age and in those with chronic medical conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, particularly if these are poorly controlled. Avoid an information overload by limiting the number of articles and posts that you read on the internet about COVID-19. Not all of these will be from reputable sources and many will cause undue fear. Some trusted sources include the National Department of Health (sacoronavirus.co.za); the NICD (National Institute of Communicable Diseases) and WHO (World Health Organisation). If in doubt, ask your GP which sources you can trust to get reliable information. 2. Monitor yourself Take note of how you are feeling daily and what symptoms you experience. Symptoms you may experience include: the loss of taste or smell, fever, sore throat, dry cough, muscle aches, headaches, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea and fatigue. It may be useful to take your temperature daily. If possible, you could measure your oxygen saturation using a pulse oximeter. This is a handy device which clips onto your finger, telling you the percentage of oxygen in your blood. The level should be more than 90%. These are available at pharmacies and are covered by some medical schemes. Continue on Page 14

ARE YOU READING ENOUGH BOOKS?

One of my 2019 resolutions was to read books like never before. I kept it at a book a month. I must say, if reading isn’t for you, this commitment is a little bit extreme if you’re studying or working, or doing both like I am. However, for myself I’m enjoying it so far. Reading books is essential especially if you want to grow in certain aspects of life. It could be a personal thing or a professional growth strategy. I’m sure you can tell the difference between a person who reads and one who doesn’t. If you haven’t read any book in the last three months, hmm. Maybe try get yourself something. PDF or hard copy, depends on preference. I personally like hard copy book. It keeps me away from the distractions of social media anyways. So how do you choose what type of book to read? Personally I’m a novel person. I tried branching into more motivational books and entrepreneurship related books. I must say, I skip through most parts of those types of books because I feel dictated. Not that there’s something wrong with the book. I just don’t like being told what and what not to do for the most part of it. So Novels just tell a story that one can learn from. For you to choose the perfect book for you, find out what you like. Your personal interests and your interest span. If you get bored easily never go for books that are too long. You probably won’t get to finish it. If you read books that you don’t resonate with, what’s the point? If you think you can learn from a book then buy it. But be careful, some book titles are too catchy with the exact opposite in the contents of the book. So read that little extract at the back of the book to find out what the book is about before you purchase something that will sit for the most part of it. Lastly, don’t go with the flow. Just because everyone is reading a particular book, doesn’t mean you should too. Read what you like and want to learn from.

Doctors explain how to handle testing positive for Covid-19 3. Check in Make sure you have a GP or clinic that you can check in with  – preferably by phone. It is especially important to contact a doctor or go to hospital if you have any of the following: difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain, confusion, inability to stay awake, bluish lips or face, or oxygen saturation less than 90%. Do not hesitate to contact your doctor if you have any concerns. The doctor will ask you questions about how you are doing and decide whether you need to be admitted to hospital or should continue to recover at home. Treatment at home may include supportive measures such as paracetamol and supplements such as Vitamin B3, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc. Please discuss any other treatments with your GP and do not stop any chronic medications. 4. Self-isolate Be responsible. Isolate yourself from others. This includes your family members. Isolation refers to separating people with a contagious disease from those who are well. You need to stay in a separate room and use a separate bathroom if possible. If you are sharing a bathroom, it needs to be disinfected after use. Eat your meals in your room and when having any contact with others, including your close family members, wear a mask and keep 1.5m away. Make sure your laundry and dirty dishes are handled with gloves. If you were asymptomatic, you need to isolate yourself for 2 weeks from your positive COVID test. If you have a mild infection, you need to isolate yourself for 2 weeks from the start of your symptoms. If your infection was more severe, you need to isolate for 2 weeks from the time you no longer needed oxygen. You do not need to have a negative COVID test to come out of isolation. If any doubt exists, discuss when you can come out of isolation with your healthcare provider. 5. Enlist help Ask your family and friends to assist you with your physical needs whilst you are self-isolating. Getting food, medicine and other essentials delivered is advisable. If you live alone, ask a friend to call and check in with you daily. 6. Notify your contacts Anyone who has had recent contact with you without a mask or was at a distance of less than 1.5m for longer than 15 minutes is called a contact. Contacts only need to be tested for Covid-19 if they become symptomatic. At this stage, a positive test would mean a definite Covid-19 infection; but a negative test does not mean the contact is clear of infection so quarantine must continue until 2 weeks after the start of symptoms. If contacts have no symptoms they do not need a Covid-19 test but even if they were to test negative for Covid19, they would still need to complete the 14 days of quarantine as false negative tests are common. BMW M135i XDRIVE

►CARS.co.za The all-new 1 Series was launched in mid-2019 and arrived in South Africa towards the end of the year. The F40-generation premium hatchback remains the entry point to the brand and the top-of-the-range M135i xDrive is purported to offer performance kicks to match those of the Mercedes-AMG A35. This generation of the 1 Series differs from the last; like the X1, X2 and Mini Cooper, it's built on a front-wheel-drive platform (so is the 2 Series Gran Coupe). BMW has also replaced the previousgeneration M140i's 3.0-litre turbopetrol with a lighter, more efficient 2.0-litre turbopetrol. Furthermore, the firm has fitted the M135i with xDrive (its all-wheel-drive system) and some gofaster exterior addenda. Previously, the BMW M135i/M140i stood out from the rest of the hot hatch rabble with its 6-cylinder engine and rear-wheel-drive configuration. Now that things have changed, is it a case of "if you can’t beat them, join them?“

PERFORMANCE In the world of performance cars, manufacturers rarely replace models with less-powerful variants. Well, BMW has done just that here: the 2.0-litre turbopetrol 4-cylinder in this M135i produces 225 kW and 450 Nm, compared with the preceding M140i's 250 kW and 500 Nm. In truth, 225 kW is enough for a hot hatch! The new model doesn’t lack for straight-line performance; it hits its marks with a 0-to-100 kph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 kph. The other prerequisites are there too: the 8-speed auto 'box rips through shifts rapidly, even if there’s a deliberate fake kick in the back every time you flick a paddle in manual mode. The shifts are also accompanied by a fake-sounding braahp. The midrange torque delivery is responsive and in-gear shove excellent. The torque-pull tapers off towards the top of the rev range, but the engine sound isn’t appealing at higher revs – there's no real need to play in that zone.

RIDE AND HANDLING In terms of the M135i's suspension, buyers have to choose between specifying smaller wheels (18-inch) with optional adaptive suspension or 19-inch wheels with M-Sport springs that lower the car's ride height by 10 mm. Our test unit came shod with the latter: 19s in conjunction with the M-Sport suspension, which regrettably firms up the ride to such an extent that the BMW feels choppy and harsh to drive on a bumpy tar road.
