Mkhize cites backlog of over 8 8000 Free State COVID-19 tests FREE STATE: Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said that as of 25 May there was a backlog of over 96 000 unprocessed COVID-19 tests. The backlog in the Free State is standing at 8800. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said the challenge is mainly due to the limited availability of COVID-19 test kits. Mkhize dropped the news while announcing the latest COVID-19 figures in the country on Thursday 28 May. Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, Limpopo and the North West do not record backlogs of unprocessed specimens. “The acting director-general was indeed correct when he stated that the backlog was around 80 000. This is to confirm that the exact figure of specimens that have not been processed is 96 480 as at 25 May 2020,” said Mkhize.

Ek is 'n woordeboer. Om jou byline by 'n berig gepubliseer te sien, is lekkerder as jou gunsteling trooskos on die winter. Al sê jy wat ook al vir mense wat my naam in hul huise in ink op papier mis, jok ek vir myself as ek sê ek is okay. Dis daai gipsgesiggie wat mens opsit. Ek mis my lesers en koerant. Dít ten spyte van 'n wonderlike nuwe uitdaging as 'n sakevrou. Onlangs roep 'n senior persoon my eenkant. Hy herinner my van 'n geselssessie oor baie koppies koffie met my so paar seisoene gelede. Dít was nie my toedoen nie. Ek deel my ongeredigeerde gebed: My liefdevolle Verlosser, Drie-enige God, Baie dankie vir lewe. Hou my hand styf vas. The Cheque is in the mail. Waarheen gaan jy anders kyk? 2) “Walk by faith – not by sight”.

Domestic workers may return to work After a long wait, domestic workers are finally allowed to return to work and generate an income. Patel also mentioned that most other industries would make a return under Level 3. Apart from restaurants, entertainment and recreation facilities, most other industries will return to the grind. Restaurants can sell food, have it delivered and customers may collect but they cannot host a sit-down meal. Local governments can operate close to full operation. Council meetings and gatherings can also resume with strict social distancing, hygiene and health measures. “Almost our entire workforce will be back at work, but those who can work from home are encouraged to do so,” said Patel. “Special care must be taken for those over 60 and those with comorbidities,” he added. From Page 4 Patel also encouraged citizens to continue to order online and to work from home where possible. WORKPLACE PROTOCOL Patel says what needs to be done at workplaces should be clear to everybody. The following protocols must remain in place for workplaces under Level 3. Some of them will also be applicable to the return of domestic workers. Employers must ensure that the 1.5 metres distance is maintained amongst employees; Limit the number of people in the workplaces, so that we minimise the chance of infection; Health and sanitation services must be readily available to employees; Masks must be worn and surfaces must be disinfected; and Businesses must have a dedicated sanitation officer responsible for ensuring compliance with health guidelines. UIF COLLECTIONS On 15 May, the Department of Employment and Labour was making all efforts to reach domestic workers and farm labourers so that they could benefit from the COVID-19 relief scheme — this, obviously because they were not permitted to work. The call included making sure they apply and receive Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits. The Department said it is doing everything in its power to help those who are vulnerable, during the lockdown, including domestic workers. “Society is judged by how it tries to take care of the most vulnerable in its midst. This is why as the government in general and the Department of Employment and Labour in particular, are doing everything in their power to shield the most vulnerable from the worst of the pandemic,” said Minister of Unemployment and Labour Thulas Nxesi.

NANKI DU PLESSIS

Sy was ook my verjaarsdag geskenk 10 jaar terug. My 2 poot kind. Veg, vlug of vries jou hond? 9) Is opleiding nodig?

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF If you’re reading this, it’s very likely that you are well aware of how different the world is right now. Our lives have taken this spin that we didn’t see coming, and now we have to make all these quick adjustments and do something that isn’t quite human – stay away from each other.

Having studied both Sociology and Psychology, I can already imagine the effects that this time is having on our society, both individually and collectively. You may find yourself with a loved one for extended amounts of time that you just aren’t used to. Or, you could be finding yourself alone – like me – and absolutely loving your new found sense of freedom. And while we don’t know exactly how long this may last, one thing is certain. Life just won’t be the same after this. This is a reality we’ll all face at some point. But for now, we’re showing up for the world by staying indoors. It’s not the norm, and there are some of us who may not know what to do. Can I offer a suggestion? Take care of yourself. No, I mean it. I really do mean it. If ever there was a time to be still and rediscover yourself in the space you find yourself in, it’s now. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and while we’re all missing how much we used to physically connect with people in social settings, let this time be one where you take a moment to appreciate one thing that makes us human – connection through interaction. I’ve been watching the way that we’ve maneuvered social distancing through digital interaction. It’s been great to witness, but for me, I know that I still need to limit the amount of screen time I get because I’m also getting information overload on every platform I find myself on. So I know I need to step back. And if that’s something you need to do to, please, do it. We may all be physically showing up by staying home, but this also includes showing up for yourself, and doing what you can to take care of yourself holistically during this time. We’ll see each other again. We’ll enjoy the company of our friends and family again. We’ll appreciate the sound of waves crashing onto the shoreline again. There are so many things that we will get to do again once it’s safe to do so. Don’t be saddened by that – rather, get excited for all the new ways that you will rediscover they way to live your life. Plant seeds of hope in your mind that will produce a mindset that knows that this too, shall pass. But for now. Take care of yourself. Show up for yourself. Be kind to yourself. And stay safe… With love, Khalipha Ntloko www.khaliphantloko.blog

Churches may resume services but limited to 50 people In an announcement that followed a lot of criticism from the religious sector, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that church services may resume under Level 3 of the national lockdown. In his address on Tuesday evening, leading a call for a National Day of Prayer, Ramaphosa said the government understood the great impact that the closure of places of worship have had on members of the faith community, which he says has worsened the distress of communities who are unable to worship in congregation. “Churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and other recognised places of worship may resume services, but these will be limited in size to 50 people or less depending on the space available,” says Ramaphosa. He has, however, cautioned that social distancing will have to be observed and all worshippers and participants will have to wear face masks in line with the current regulations. “All religious organisations must put protocols in place for, among other things, thoroughly cleaning and sanitising places for worship before and after services.” One of the proposals the government has received from the religious sector is that there should be a Continue on Page 6

BRAAM BOTHA Churches may resume services but limited to 50 people From Page 6 National Day of Prayer. Ramaphosa says this will take place on the 31st of May. “I therefore urge all South Africans to heed the call of the leaders of our various faith communities for a National Day of Prayer on Sunday, the 31st of May, when we will once again come together to pray for the healing of our land and the protection of our people.” Since the lockdowns began churches have had to be shut down and annual Easter gatherings cancelled. However, with the government’s decision to ease the regulations under Level 3, allowing schools to reopen and certain products like alcohol to be sold for home consumption, criticism was piling on the government to reopen churches too. Various churches are yet to respond and give indication on how they are going to go ahead with holding services with the eased regulations. President Ramaphosa addressed the media where he led a call for a National Day of Prayer.

SASSA processes 75 000 COVID-19 social relief grant applications …but only half to get grants

LOW CARB COCONUT LIME CHICKEN INGREDIENTS

4 chicken breast fillets 1/4 tsp sea salt 1/4 tsp black pepper 1 tbsp coconut oil 1/2 red onion chopped 1 cup chicken stock 2 tbsp lime juice about 1 lime 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped 1 whole red chilli finely sliced (optional) 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (optional) 1/2 cup coconut milk or coconut cream

INSTRUCTIONS Place the chicken breasts between two pieces of cling wrap and flatten them to even thickness. Sprinkle each side of the chicken with salt and pepper. Melt the coconut oil in a large pan over medium high heat on the stove. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until nicely browned. Then remove from the pan and set aside on a plate. Wipe the pan with a paper towel to remove brown bits. Add a little more oil into the pan along with the chopped onion and sauté for a few minutes to soften. Add the chili, if using. Sauté another minute. Add the chicken stock, lime juice, parsley and chili flakes. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce. Add the coconut milk and continue to simmer for about 5 minutes. Add the chicken back into the sauce, cover and cook for about 10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce is to your liking. Serve with rice or cauliflower rice with the sauce spooned over the top. Add an extra sprinkling of parsley & chili for garnish and serve! This may not be the prettiest looking dish, but it makes up for that in taste! Try the recipe, save it, share with your friends! http://www.mammachefjozi.com

Sassa says those who qualify for the R350 grant will be paid at the end of this month The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says it has so far processed around 75 000 applications for the R350 social relief grant meant for millions of unemployed South Africans during the COVID-19 lockdown. But only half of that number have qualified to get the grant. Sassa says those who qualify will be paid at the end of this month. Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says, “On the 15th we paid about 10 people and those 10 people who were paid it was just to test if the system is working. But there is a category of people of about 75 000 which made applications as well.” “Out of that 75 000, half of it unfortunately we disqualified because they are getting one kind of a grant or the other because some of them are getting social grants, some are getting the UIF or some of them are on National Student Finance Aid Scheme (NSFAS),”explains Letsatsi.

Agri SA appeals to government to investigate and act on illegal trade of tobacco products â–şAgriSA The illegal trade of tobacco products has gained irrefutable momentum during the past few weeks. The broader public takes notice and is being informed by the media of the illegal trading of tobacco products on an unprecedented scale. According to News24, police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele confirmed that a 39-year-old man was caught transporting illicit cigarettes worth R636 800 on Friday 22nd May in Botshabelo, Free State. The police found eight boxes filled with illicit cigarettes in a vehicle. The news agency IOL stated that on Thursday, 7th May, metro police officers recovered cigarettes valued at R750 000 in Bellville. According to a SAPS news report, police officers from the eThekwini Central Cluster Task Team arrested three men aged between 29 and 36 after a large quantity of cigarettes were discovered on 3 May 2020. During the operation 71 boxes of tobacco, prescription drugs and illicit cigarettes were recovered. The recovered items are estimated to be approximately R800 000-00 in value. The suspects were charged for dealing in illicit cigarettes. The examples cited above, indicate that the decision to ban the formal and legal tobacco trade has not had the necessary health and social benefits. Smokers are now buying illicit cigarettes at an unprecedented scale. Much of the illicit traded cigarettes do not adhere to industry and Government safety standards and has been found in instances to contain foreign particles and chemicals that pose even more health dangers for smokers. Agri SA is also urgently calling on government to lift the ban on the formal trade of tobacco products. It is now clear that the ban serves no purpose, as consumers have not stopped using tobacco. What is clear is that the legal tobacco value chain and the workers employed, are suffering tremendous economic hardships. The state loses taxes to the tune of R1,5 billion monthly. The only winners are those benefitting from the illicit trade. Surely this is not assisting our efforts to prevent the virus from infecting more and more people and the economy from recovering from the lockdown. Agri SA remains committed to play our full part in all efforts and regulations to help curb the further spread and deadly impact of the Covid-19 virus. However, such efforts and regulations must be rational, common sensical and must be benchmarkable to global best practice. This currently is not the case in South Africa. Government must now act boldly to regain its credibility with the South African people.

3 FOOLPROOF WAYS TO STYLE LEGGINGS Lets have a look at how you can elevate your #WFH legging looks. But first, the all time favourite fashion debate of: are leggings legitimate pants? Or not? Our opinion? Well we believe it really comes down to the fabrication of the leggings. Without getting too technical on product intrinsics, if it holds firm - it is a pant. If it holds light, it is not. However for the sake of not being fashion policed when those video calls are on, lets have a look at what we believe are the top 3 points to adhere to when styling leggings. 1. Business Casoool as we like to say Nowadays being business-presentable, is a fine line between being business and being casual-cool. So when dressing for a day of back to back video calls and possibly a pop into the supermarket, consider your business casoool look. By adding a structured shirt and a oversized cardigan for a cute preppy look, add some brogues and some cute accessories and you are good to go. 2. Snuggle Up Inbetween the #WFH vibes, the chill in the air and everything else, remember to keep it cute... Buddle up & snuggle up with your fav leggings and a cropped knit or oversized knit. Keep it simple, keep it comfy, keep it cute! 3. Sport Luxe Ok ok, sport luxe is a fan fav right now - so we saved the best for last. Whether you like high waisted leggings with a vibrant puffer jacket, or you are more of the head-to-toe black ensemble persona, remember you can always make it pop with an easy denim jacket. Undoubtedly athleisure wear is one trend that is going to grow for the remainder of this year at least. So keep em popping, keep em styling, keep em firm! PS: Another trend to mention is the reboot of logomania- so the bolder the better.

HAMILTON JANSEN IT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH. There are people who feels like nothing is happening with their lives. They feel like their lives are stagnant, they are not progressing and for that reason they feel that they need to take their lives. When a cellphone can't receive or make calls we check the our network connections. Sometimes we even move from one network to another so that we can connect with the network that is covering the area. A complete person is made out of 3 things: body, mind, and spirit. The 3 needs to connected or in sync for one to be fully functioning. Our bodies are like cellphones, minds are like our discards, and our spirit is our network. You can never progress if you are connected to the wrong network. Are you on the same wave that is created by vibration of your position? Did you asked yourself that the people that you have surrounded yourself with, are they the right people who you need to increase your spiritual growth with? Are they on the same spiritual connection that you are in? Check your spiritual connection before you start accusing people of witchcraft, check your spiritual connection before you accuse people of being jealous, check your spiritual connect before you see yourself as useless. You are not the problem, your location or network is the problem. Fix that and you will progress in life. Your are out of touch that's all. https://www.facebook.com/hamilton.jansen

South Africa will now have 3 different coronavirus ‘hotspot levels’ – here’s how it works ► Courtesy BusinessTech Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has explained how government will determine the country’s hotspots areas as part of the country’s new district-based lockdown. Presenting to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday (26 May), Mkhize said that high-risk areas will be classified as hotspots and that these districts will remain at level 4 with intensive implementation of screening, testing and restrictions. He added that the country’s districts will effectively be designated in one of three ways: Areas of ‘vigilance’ (less than 5 cases per 100,000 people); Emerging hotspots (less than 5 cases per 100,000 people, but rapid rise); Hotspots (more than 5 cases per 100,000 people). “To determine the levels per district, the prevalence and incidence rates of each area should be calculated. However. this is currently not possible because of low testing rates and a lack of serological tests,” he said. To accommodate this, Mkhize said that the government will be taking more of a statistical approach. “In the absence of test coverage data, active cases and changes in active cases over 14 days will be used to determine the changes in rate of infection,” he said. MOTHERHOOD IS BEAUTIFUL CHAOS AND THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD BE THANKFUL Breathe in. Breathe out. I wish I could tell you I was busy meditating, getting in touch with my inner self but lets be honest – this breath in, breath out episode is just one of a hundred sighs I tend to give these days. WARNING: I’ve noticed that I’m sighing a lot these days. Because raising kids is busy and full of interruptions and well quite frankly damn hard work. I’m sleep deprived‌ sigh! Waking up every hour because of a grunting (and hungry) baby is exhausting. Just when I thought my 3-year-old is sleeping through the night we signed up for sleepless nights all over again. Oh, how I long for 8 hours uninterrupted sleep! Breastfeeding is hard‌ sigh! We’ve all heard that #breastisbest but let me tell you this: Breastfeeding is hard work. Tears, sweat and blood goes into it. Literally. Not to mention the horror of watching your once perky boobs go downhill. My house is in a constant state of terror‌ sigh! My once beautiful living room is now a playroom. Lego’s, Barbie and a million unidentifiable objects are literally everywhere. There are bits of food, an old Simba chippie and a half-eaten rusk under the couch. Cleaning (with kids in the house) is useless because guess what in 5 minutes you will have to do it‌ again! My hygiene level has reached an ultimate low‌ sigh! I can’t remember the last time I’ve shaved my legs. Why? Because taking a bath with a 3 year old does not leave any room or time to shave your legs. Making sure Ariel finds her voice (and her prince) are way more important than your hairy legs Mommy! Duh! There’s no time to curl my hair let alone straighten it. Dry shampoo is my new best friend. Make up is a luxury and when I remember I brush my teeth. This is considered a good day. Keeping the spark alive is a challenge‌ sigh! Leaking breasts, maternity pads and a messy bun do not exactly scream sex! It’s undoable to stay awake after 21:00, spit up is not sexy and did I mention I’m tired? My house is dirty. My hair is dirty. The house is a mess. I’m a mess. Then I hear a voice inside my head (that’s you Mom) and it says I must try and see things differently because‌ There’s beauty in the chaos. I’m sleep deprived but I get to take care of tiny humans. They will only need me for a small amount of time. For now, I’m the only one that can comfort them and that’s kind of amazing. www.prettybelle.co.za

HELENE OLIVIER

Breastfeeding is hard but so rewarding. The way he turns his head and nuzzle my neck when he wants some more. The way he gives this little giggle when he’s finally full. The way he falls asleep with a smile on his face. The way his tiny body feels against my skin. The late night and early morning feedings when it’s dark outside and its just him and me against the world. I’m giving my baby the best and I’m also doing some cardio! My house is in a constant state of terror but it’s a nice state of terror. If you are craving a snack, but you are stuck breastfeeding, you can literally just lift a cushion and you are guaranteed to find a snack! It’s a mess but it’s a beautiful mess. They are playing. They are learning new skills and maybe someday they will learn another one: To tidy up. My hygiene level has reached an ultimate low but who cares? I know how important appearance is, but I’ve just had a baby. And a c-section. The fact that I’m still standing and I’m taking care of two tinies are a huge accomplishment. Keeping the spark alive is difficult but seeing hubby take care of our babies is enough to melt my heart all over again. We may not be jumping the couch anytime soon, but man when we work together as a team those kids they don’t stand a chance! We bath, feed, play and dance with them and when we finally put (two happy kids) to bed it’s time for our reward‌ Watching The Walking Dead of course! đ&#x;˜‰ Raising kids are hard. Add a newborn in the mix and it gets even harder. But it builds strength, it builds character and it is making our marriage stronger. One day‌ One day my breasts will be my own again, my house will be squeaky clean and “Let it goâ€? will not play in the background. There will be no sticky arms around my neck, no face that lights up when I walk into the room. It will be quiet. Oh, so quiet‌ Motherhood is chaos but it’s a beautiful chaos The messy house, the quick showers, the sticky hugs and the overall constant NEED for you. It’s chaos. But it’s beautiful. One day all of this will be 20 years ago, and you will long for those messy days. It’s a beautiful, busy, messy life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sigh. FOCUS TOP TIPS ON BUILDING A CONTAINER HOME PART 1

This special feature has been divided into a 2 part section.. Here are the top tips for every stage of building your dream container home. Get council approval Most councils are open to innovative types of building and recognise that alternative housing adds diversity to their town. Do thorough research on property restrictions before you buy the land. Have detailed plans drawn up professionally and develop a good relationship with your council; this will save you time and help you to deal with any hiccups along the way. Purchase your container Buy your container through a reputable company. They will help you choose the right kind of container for your needs, as well as ensure the container is structurally sound, waterproof and has not transported anything dangerous. There are two types of shipping containers: one that has reinforced square tubing side top rails and one that has flat bar side rails. Buying the reinforced side railed container will ensure that your home is better structurally sound, and you don't have to pay extra building costs to reinforce the container sides later. Building with a refrigerated container is ideal as they already have insulation but comes with different challenges. Most purchases require an upfront payment after you have seen the container and have the appropriate documentation with a container reference number. A SARS/customs EDI release (SAD500) is very important as it give assurance that the container is legally in South Africa has not been used for any illegal activities and is not part of any investigation. Design your home To achieve amazing things with your modular build, simplicity and great design is key. The more ambitious the designs are, the more time and resource-intensive it will be to build. When deciding on how many containers to use make sure you have considered how much space you need to live comfortably on a daily basis. Many holiday homes make use of only one container; however, you may need more space for daily living. Be clear on the vision for your home to simplify the whole building process. A great way to do this is to look at showhouses. They will give you a good physical indication of how effective use of space can transform a container, as well as provide inspiration for your design. Get a professional to draw your design in 3D. It will give you and your builder a better feel for the space. A professional designer will be able to arrange your living space in the best possible way for your needs. Next week we will look at planning your construction, phasing your build and how to budget

South Africa will now have 3 different coronavirus ‘hotspot levels’ – here’s how it works From Page 10 “To determine an ‘area of vigilance’ (less than 5 cases per 100,000) and ‘hotspots’ (more than 5 cases per 100,000), the average active case data per 100,000 population was used for the period 16 May to 22 May.” To determine ’emerging hotspots’, Mkhize said that government will look at whether a district, which currently has fewer than 5 cases per 100,000 population, has seen a notable increase in cases over the 14 day period. Districts As part of his presentation, Mkhize provided a list of districts across the country which have currently been defined as needing ‘vigilance’, are an ’emerging hotspot’ or are currently defined as a ‘hotspot’. The latest data shows that 14 of South Africa’s 52 districts are considered hotspots, while nine have been identified as emerging hotspots. Mkhize said that this is based on a number of active case per 100,000 between 16 May and 22 May. His department calculated ‘the delta’ or new positive cases by subtracting the number of cases reported on 15 May from the reported cases on 22 May. It also calculated the % change in new positive cases between the same two days.

GO TREND Level 3 lockdown: Here's what's allowed from June 1 and what isn't

HOW TO: DISINFECTING YOUR HIGH-TOUCH SURFACES With many South Africans now working remotely – one of the most crucial aspects of practicing good personal hygiene is ensuring that the devices used on a day-to-day basis for work, such as laptops, cellphones and WiFi routers are thoroughly cleansed and looked after as much as your hands are – as the surfaces on these devices’ have the ability to hold onto germs just as much as your hands do. UNICEF (The United Nations Children Fund) has also highlighted the importance of cleansing and disinfecting these hightouch surfaces using the following protocol: If a high-touch surface is dirty, first clean it with soap, or a detergent and water; Use a disinfectant product containing alcohol (at least 70%) to wipe down your device with; Ensure you leave your cleaning solution on your device for several minutes before wiping it off. This will give the solution enough time to ‘soak’ and effectively remove any existing germs from your device; Always read the directions to make sure you’re using the products as recommended to avoid damaging your sensitive electronic devices; Another solution would be to use wipe-able covers for your laptops and other electronic devices, as this will make the cleaning process much simpler and time-effective. In addition to these guidelines, Lenovo has also come up with some simple yet effective steps on how you can easily keep your devices clean to ensure optimal personal hygiene; Remove and debris (crumbs, dust particles etc) from your device by gently turning it upside down or using compressed air; Apply a cleaning agent* to a lint free towel or cloth; Wring excess liquid out of your towel/ cloth to avoid damage to your device; Thoroughly wipe down all surfaces of your device, and subsequently allow to dry for the specified time on the cleaning agent label; Wipe off any remaining residue or liquid from the surface of your device

► Courtesy IOL President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement of the move to level 3 lockdown on June 1 brings with it the opening of most sectors of the economy as well as the relaxation of a number of regulations which governed the movement of individuals under levels 4 and 5. In his address on Sunday night, Ramaphosa apologised to the nation for the restrictive measures that government had put in place from the start of the national lockdown, but stressed the measures were necessary in order to prepare the country's health systems and slow the spread of the virus. "I am sorry that these measures imposed a great hardship on you – restricting your right to move freely, to work and eke out a livelihood," he said. "As a result of the measures we imposed – and the sacrifices you made – we have managed to slow the rate of infection and prevent our health facilities from being overwhelmed.“ Ramaphosa announced the opening of a number of industries which will help stimulate South Africa's ailing economy, but some businesses where social distancing might not be practical will remain closed for now. LANDBOU RADIO OVK WOLMARKVERSLAG

Daar is in totaal 5,637 bale aangebied, waarvan 85.5% verkoop is.
