Ein Ergebnis der interkulturellen Beziehungen in Südostasien sind die immer noch existierenden portugiesischbasierten Kreolsprachen Papia Kristang und Macaísta, die zu Muttersprachen von Generationen von Menschen in Malakka und Macau geworden sind. Welche Faktoren bewirken den Sprachwandel dieser Idiome, und wie ist dieser erkennbar? Dieser Band beschäftigt sich nicht nur mit der Sprachdynamik der portugiesisch-basierten Kreolsprachen Südostasiens, sondern auch mit anderen wesentlichen Fragestellungen der Variationslinguistik. Als Basis dienen die Ergebnisse einer empirischen Datenerhebung, die insbesondere die Veränderungen im Sprachgebrauch dokumentieren. Darüber hinaus stellt der Autor neue Resultate hinsichtlich der Sprachidentifikationen vor, die nicht nur für die Kreolistik von Bedeutung sind, sondern auch fachübergreifend für das Interesse der allgemeinen Sprachwissenschaft.

Portuguese as a contrastive reference brings together a set of studies that analyze discourse markers of European Portuguese in comparison with other languages. The analysis is based on corpora, translations and other relevant linguistic resources. The works included in this volume show the crucial importance of the contrastive perspective in the analysis of discourse markers, for translation, teaching foreign languages and linguistic description in general. The relevance of the book comes from placing Portuguese discourse markers as the center of reflection and contrastive analysis. We highlight the variety of theoretical points of view, of discourses in which the markers are analyzed, of languages whose markers are compared with those of European Portuguese.
