Marina Manager Reminder: Shore Power Cord Inspection
Take a few minutes and inspect your cord. Start at the boat side and make your way to the shore side. If you need a cord replaced call or email the store and we will pull the old one and replace it with a new one. Cord protectors are also available.
Caution: Make sure the power is shut off at the pedestal before conducting any inspection!

FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS
BY: ROB HIGGINS- SAIL FLEET COMMANDER
Fall is around the corner! We’ve already enjoyed a few cool mornings and evenings that hint at the coming autumn season. Those cooler temperatures signal the beginning of what I consider the BEST time of the year to be out of the water. The water temperature is still warm enough for tubing, wake surfing and skiing, but the air becomes cool enough that a warm sweatshirt feels great after climbing back on board. The days are still long enough to be able get out on the water to enjoy dinner and a beautiful sunset. And for those of us cut from a slightly different (sail)cloth, we know that the changing season brings.... WIND! I’m looking forward to more consistent breeze and the most delightful sailing.
On Saturday, 8/24 we kicked off the fall sailing season with our Fall Sail Crew Party. Many thanks to Sail Fleet Ensign Mark Cook who organized and emcee’ d the event which attracted 30+ sailors. There were skippers looking for crew and crew looking for skippers. Many matches were made, and we look forward to seeing many new faces out on the water.

SAILING SCENE
All hands on deck! If you’d like to get more involved, meet some new people and have FUN, the Sail Fleet is looking for volunteers for the upcoming 32nd Peninsula Cup Regatta in October. The “Pen Cup” is our signature sailing event and one of the best weekends of the year. We still have a few volunteer slots to fill, both on the water and on land. No experience is necessary. Fun and fellowship is guaranteed.
If you missed the Fall Sail Crew Party on 8/24 don’t despair! We still want to meet you and help connect you with more PYC sailors.
For info about opportunities to get involved with the Pen Cup, or simply to plug into the Sailing Scene at PYC, please contact me (rhiggins@fcapllc.com) or Mark Cook (markalancook@yahoo.com), Sail Fleet Ensign for more information.
Speaking of water, make sure to block your calendar for these upcoming on-the-water events:
9/7 – Hawaiian Raft-Up 12-3pm in Reggie’s Cove 9/14 – Fall Lake History Tour 1-3pm
Fall is also when we host our signature sailing event, the 32nd Peninsula Cup Regatta. This event is open to all sailors and crew. There are several levels of competition that promise fun for sailors of all experience levels. There are even enough land-based activities that non-sailors can enjoy the festivities without leaving shore!
We’re looking for a few more volunteers to round out our team. NO experience is required. This is a great opportunity to get involved, meet some of the most wonderful people, and learn a bit about sailing at the same time.
Block your calendar now for the weekend of October 11-13 for the Pen Cup Regatta and Oyster Roast. Don’t miss out on the festivities!
Fair winds and following seas, Rob Higgins, Sail Fleet Commander
Finally, we want to congratulate our friends at Outrigger Yacht Club on celebrating their 50th anniversary in September. There is a rich history of competition and camaraderie between PYC and OYC. In fact, our club is located at the site of the former Outrigger Marina, where the “Outrigger Harbor Sailing Association” was founded in 1974. They later changed the name to Outrigger Yacht Club in 1990. The flagpole that we proudly fly our colors from was built by Warren Beck, a past Commodore of OYC and financed by the OYC membership. In 1990 it was dedicated to the memory of Nick Wodogaza and Bob Curtis, whose lives were lost on May 6, 1989 when a freak storm blew in during the Michelob Cup Regatta. Today, our flagpole stands as a reminder of those lost sailors and of the ties that bind our two clubs.
Godspeed, Rob Higgins Sail Fleet Commander
