CHEF'S CORNER

Hello Members,
I wanted to share some exciting news with you all! Recently, a TV crew from Spain came to the club to film an interview with me for a TV show. It's an incredible opportunity for me to share my story, from my humble beginnings to my journey here in the United States.
I'm so grateful to have this platform to inspire others and show that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. And I'm especially grateful to have all my co-workers, supporting me every step of the way.
The cameras came to the club because it's a special place for me where I have been working for the past 15 years, and I'm so proud of it. Thank you for being part of my journey and for making me feel at home here.
Enjoy it!

BOATING & MARINA NEWS
BY: HARRY SMITH - MARINA MANAGERRenting a boat this season?
If you plan on renting one of our pontoon boats this season please remember the new ordinance that went into effect January 1, 2024.
(lnmc.org)
SECTION
6.
RENTER REQUIREMENTS
Each Renter must: (a) Comply with North Carolina’s minimum boater education requirements; for example, all Renters born on or after January 1, 1988 must show proof of completing an approved NASBLA boating education course. (b) Ensure that they are appropriately trained based on the rented boat’s complexity and the Renter’s prior boating experience. (c) Demonstrate a familiarity with proper and safe means of navigation on Lake Norman, including the use of a navigational chart and/ or appropriate navigation app. (d) Sign and maintain on file a “Pre-Rental/Pre-Ride Instruction Checklist” acknowledging that the requirements of these Boat Rental Regulations have been reviewed and understood by both parties. (e) Comply with all Federal, State, Local, and Duke Energy laws, regulations, and guidelines, including, without limitation, Duke Energy's Lake Permit Guidelines applicable to docks and piers.
In addition to this ordinance, Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club will ask that anyone wishing to rent our boats to please take the boater safety education course. The more educated boaters we have, the safer LKN will be. Instructional training on our boats is also available.

FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS
BY: MIKE LANG - POWER FLEET CAPTAINIt is great to be heading into summer and the peak season for boating and our Fleet Committee events. As in the past, we are excited to be bringing Members opportunities to socialize and enjoy everything Lake Norman has to offer, including the Raft-Ups and Poker Run that have long anchored our calendar.
Gather the kids for our Family Fishing event on June 15th. This year, we will head out on the water, fishing from the Club’s beautiful new double-decker pontoon. We will have fishing guides, poles, and bait available.
The Raft-Up events are a long-popular tradition on Lake Norman, and we have three remaining outings planned:
• Saturday, July 13th, featuring beverages and a live grill lunch served by the Club.
• Friday, August 9th, our early evening event which begins at 5:00 – a great way to kick-off the weekend.
• Saturday, September 7th, our season wraps-up with a Hawaiian theme, food, and drinks.
Our Poker Run Weekend takes place later this month, beginning with the Dueling Pianos dinner on Friday, June 21st. On Saturday, June 22nd we host our 26th annual Poker Run in the afternoon, followed by the Chips for Charity event in the evening. Our theme for the Poker Run – “Love Where You Lake, and Win” –captures the fun and prize opportunities that have made this a highlight of our summer season. If you haven’t been part of the Poker Run previously, we hope you will join us – here are a few things to know:
• The Poker Run begins on the water – visit 5 stops around the lake, picking up a card at each. The cards will be in sealed envelopes; after completing the 5 stops you will have the 5 cards needed to make up a poker hand.

• You can play as many hands as you like – by playing multiple hands, you have a better chance of drawing a winning combination. Hands are purchased in advance, discounted to $18 through June 9th, or on the day of the event for $20.00.
• The stops open from noon to 4:00 pm. It’s not a race – take your time and enjoy an afternoon on the lake. Shuttle boats are available if you would like to ride along rather than captain your boat.
• Beginning at 3:30, we open for card play in the Commodore’s Room. You will sign in, randomly group your cards into 5-card hands, and open the sealed envelopes. If you have a solid hand – but not a great one – you can take a chance and purchase additional cards to improve your standing.
• You do not need to be an experienced card player to win – we will help you assemble your best hand and complete the card play.
• Cash prizes are awarded to the top 3 hands.
• We conclude in time for the evening Chips For Charity event, our annual silent auction and casino night event benefiting The Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center, and Calvin Newman Youth Boating Education Fund.
Have a safe, enjoyable summer on our beautiful lake. We hope you will take advantage of these and the many other events the Fleet Committee organizes each year – details are available through the Club calendar and website. If you are interested in getting involved with the Fleet Committee, please let us know.
Mike Lang Power Fleet CaptainSAILING SCENE : SAILING IS MAKING WAY ON LAKE NORMAN!
With the Wednesday Night Racing Series well underway, the leading boat in the Cruising Division is our own Mark Cook aboard his Catalina 30 "Mad Hatter"! If you happen to be out on the water watching the races, also keep an eye out for John Proctor's Jeanneau 349, sporting the PYC burgee in the non-spinnaker class.
Interested in Sailing? Want to get involved? Meet some new people? Learn a new skill? If this sounds like you, the Sail Fleet wants to meet YOU!
There are so many opportunities to get out on the water and there's nothing quite like sailing. If you've ever thought, "I'd like to try that sometime...", that time is now! We're planning for upcoming events and want to hear from all captains, crew juniors and anyone interested in getting involved either out on the water or ashore, regardless of your sailing experience. Please send an email to me (rob.higgins@gmail.com) or your Sail Fleet Ensign, Mark Cook (markalancook@ yahoo.com).
