GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

Dear Members;

Season's greetings to everyone! We hope that your holidays are filled with joy! We have a busy December, and we look forward to seeing you and your families here at the club.

The ugly sweater Member Mixer will be held Friday, December 6th!

The Member Holiday party is on the 7th. This is a member only event for those on your membership.

Wreath making is on the 11th.

Santa Brunch is on the 15th.

The Holiday wine dinner is set for Saturday, December 14th. Each course will have a delicious wine paried with it. It is always a popular event for our members. Our lighted boat parade will take place on the 21st of December and we will be a part of the lake wide boat parade again this year.

We will count down the year with a Winter White Gala on the 28th of December with music and a delicious three course meal plus delicious appetizers and a complitmentary glass of bubbly

We continue to offer gas at our cost here at SHPYC and all SHM locations. A wonderful benefit to our members. Don't forget to fill up prior to the end of the year.

As this year comes to a close, my team and I would like to thank you for a wonderful 2024! We added more events for you to enjoy, opended the Dining room on Wednesday nights in October for our members to dine, Sunday wing nights at the Outrigger, used the XXL green eggs for events, salad & baked potato bar, we kept the Outrigger open later in the year, and added more Tapas nights. Just to name a few of the many things that we did since you, our members asked!

We look forward to 2025 with great anticipation of what it will hold. As alway, we look forward to serving you!

BOATING & MARINA NEWS

Are

you ready!!

Colder temperature took their time coming in this year. Milder weather seemed to hang around as if summer was never going to end. Well, it’s here now and you need to be prepared.

Ask yourself these questions!

1. What are you doing or having done to prepare your vessel for the winter?

2. Are you ready for those wintertime temperatures?

3. Has your vessel been topped off with fuel and stabilized?

4. Has your waste tank been flushed thoroughly?

5. Are your batteries safe and fully charged for the winter?

6. Are my dock lines in good condition and are they the right size?

7. What is the condition of my shore power cord?

8. Do I need an oil change?

9. Has my freshwater system been winterized?

These are very important questions you must ask yourself this season. Please email the PYC Marina Ship’s Store and your marina team will be happy to help with any winter service needs. No matter the vessel size, it pays to be proactive not reactive. Take precautionary measures now, that can help keep these problems from occurring.

Don't wait till it's too late!

SAILING SCENE

The countdown to the Peninsula Cup has begun!

We are excited to host the 32nd annual Peninsula Cup Regatta weekend here at the club December 6-8. This will be one of the best events of the year so don't miss out!

We plan to have several "fleet's" or divisions, including at least one "1-design" fleet where all the boats are the same make and model. Sailors will also be racing in "PHRF" divisions (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet). In these races, each boat has a "PHRF" number, similar to a golf handicap. In this way, faster and slower designs can compete against each other on a "level playing field". (A liquid version of one)

We look forward to a very exciting weekend of sailing, with activities on and off the water. For more information, visit https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/27717 or email Mark Cook (markalancook@yahoo.com)

I want to personally Thank the Fleet Committee for all of your efforts! You are all tremendous in my book and I am grateful to each of you and the role you supported on the Fleet. It is a volunteer position but what you get in return are lifelong Friendships and memories. It has been my pleasure working with you – Thank you so very much!

My thanks are also extended to Kathee, Nikole, Katherine, Andres, and everyone from Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club. You are very special to me and the Fleet as we worked together, side by side, to support the Yacht Club Membership. It has been a terrific year, and I thank each and every one of you! We couldn’t do it without you and your support.

Finally, none of our events would exist without the kind support of our Volunteers. THANK YOU for always showing up with a smile and a helping hand!

For our Members, buckle up for 2025 is going to be spectacular because my good Friend Pamela Black will be Commodore! She is AMAZING, get ready!

Happy Holidays, Chris Slocum, 2024 Commodore

After the Pen Cup, temperatures will continue to drop, but the sailing just keeps heating up. The Lake Norman Keelboat Council hosts a winter series of races called the Icicle Series. Each year a different club on the lake hosts the event and this year PYC will be hosting. The first race is scheduled for January 11 and we will be seeking race committee volunteers for all the dates. More announcements coming soon...
