GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE
Kathee Dishner General ManagerDear Members, Happy Holiday Season!
This year we are trying something new. We plan to do an electronic Christmas card for our members. Please be on the lookout in your email as we plan to send it around the 12th of December. With so many members, which we are so very thankful to have, we chose to be sustainable and create an electronic card.
We finished many upgrades this year that members have requested. We added new gates and a new gate lock system. It has been 25 years since the last installation. We also added additional cameras on the property.
We have our new poolside Bar & Grill for our members to enjoy this oncoming season. Thank you for your patience and understanding. While it has taken a bit longer than expected due to production delays, the end product is a great place for our members to socialize and enjoy! We have a full kitchen, full bar, two bathrooms and two big 65 inch tvs. We are planning complimentary parties for our members to see the improvements.
The main club roof is being repaired and painted the same grey as the other roofs at the club. We are repairing the sidewalks as well.
The club has over 300 events during the year, so we hope you take advantage of the variety of experiences we have to offer to our members. Our Family Holiday party is December 2nd ($25.00 per person++). It is always a lovely time. Gingerbread house decorating for the kids is the same evening. Please sign up your children so that we prepare for them in advance. Lighted Boat parade is on the 10th of December. If we don’t have 10 members' boats participating we will cancel the event. Please sign up to decorate as it really is a great time. Wine Society Dinner is on the 17th of December.
This New Years Eve we are planning something different club wide. We will be open for dinner on NYE with a special menu, music, a complimentary glass of champagne and all the flair. Dinner reservations will begin at 5pm and the last seating will be at 9pm. Please call to make reservations and we look forward to celebrating with you.
My team and I would like to thank you, our members, for a wonderful year at the Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club. We appreciate you and we look forward to a tremendous new year in 2023.
With Kind Regards,
Kathee Dishner General Manager

Ingredients
•½ c unsalted butter, softened and room temperature • 1 egg • 1 ½ c flour • ½ c sugar • ⅓ c brown sugar, packed firmly • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla • ½ teaspoon sea salt • ½ teaspoon baking soda • ¾ c white chocolate chips • ¾ c dark or regular chocolate chips
• 5 candy canes, crushed into fine pieces about ¼ cup plus a tablespoon
Peppermint Chocolate Chip Cookies

Directions
1. Using a hand or standing mixer, cream butter, sugar and brown sugar until nice and creamy. Add in vanilla and egg and beat until incorporated. You don't want to over do this part or cookies will be stiff. Just enough until the egg is mixed in (about 20 seconds).
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sea salt and baking soda. Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until combined.
3. Stir in chocolate chips and candy canes.
4. Chill the dough if possible for at least 15-30 minutes, seal tightly and chill up to 3 days before baking. (Allow to sit out 10-15 minutes before you bake them).

5. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350°F. Roll dough into balls or use a cookie scoop and line on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until cookies look slightly golden. The key here is NOT to over bake these! They may not look done but they are!
6. Allow to cool for several minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Marina/Dock Safety during the winter months

We are now entering into the winter months and the water has gotten significantly colder. It’s very important to be safe when on the docks and around the water! Here are some important things to remember when on the docks:
1.Wear a PFD
2.Remember there are safety boxes on every dock that contain the following. (1xthrow ring, 1xthrow bag and 1xcollapsible ladder)
Each box is located in the middle of each dock.
3.Do not be on the docks alone. If alone always let someone know where you are at.
4.Locate all boat ladders in your area to aid in getting out of the water.
5.Keep docks free of all trip hazards.
6.Proceed to a warm area as soon as possible. (Inside a boat with heat, inside club, club restrooms after hours

7.Remember when exposed to cold water the effects of Hyperthermia can be deadly so always have a plan when around the water.
Marina Manager Reminder
A message from one of LKN preferred mechanics:
Every year I always say leave your outboard down and in the water over the winter. People hate this because of the growth and algae. However, there is a really important reason. All outboards exhaust systems exit thru the propeller hub (center) When the outboard is up rain water collects inside the hub. Not a big deal until winter comes. Then that water freezes, expands, and ruins the gearcase. The picture attached shows what happened to one such gearcase. The owner attempted to have it welded but the internal shape would not swat the internal bearings correctly and the unit seized completely. New Yamaha lower unit gearcases run approximately $4200.00 NOT counting labor.
So…. Leave the outboard or sterndrive down in the winter to allow the exhaust to stay drained…. Or pay the price.
Please note there is a 48-hr cancellation policy on all club events.

Wow, hard to believe 2022 is almost over. What a fantastic year! I hope you enjoyed the club and took advantage of all the wonderful events we had this year. It was truly a privilege and an honor to serve as the 2022 Commodore and I had the privilege to work with one of the best Fleet Committee. Your 2022 Fleet Committee was a hard-working committee and what made this group even stronger is the spouses/partners behind each fleet member supporting and volunteering so many times throughout the year. Thank you.
The Fleet Committee puts on 20+ events each year and would not be successful without the strong partnership with the SHPYC team. Thank you, Kathee, Jeff, Nikole, and team, for your partnership and everything you have done throughout the year to make these events fun and successful. Yes, it takes many volunteers and a strong partnership team here with the club BUT make no mistake it is the MEMBERS that make the Yacht Club.
Some of the SHPYC Fleet Committee 2022 highlights.
•Annual Car Show
•We had 91 cars in 2022, wonderful event
•First year for the Car Club events
• Power Fleet held the 24th Poker Run
•Members participated in all five of the stops out on the lake
•A total of 230 Poker Hands were sold
•Power fleet held three raft-ups, Spring and Fall Lake Tours
• Sail Fleet held the 30th Peninsula Cup Regatta
•Premier SHPYC/lake wide regatta [3 days] . . . on-the-water competition and extensive on-shore activities
•21 sailboat competitors across 6 PHRF and One-Design Classes
•Distance Race Saturday and Course Racing Sunday
•Sail Fleet also held 10 SHPYC Fellowship Series Races in 2022
• Treasure Hunt / Fall Festival
•Fun-filled family-oriented Pirate Treasure Hunt & Fall Festival with on-shore excitement and on-the water pirate encounters
•Over 100 participants and over 40 member/fleet volunteers
I am also extremely proud on how much charity work we do here at the club throughout the year. We held our annual Polar Plunge in February for the Special Olympics and raised more than $5,000. Great job by the Club, Fleet Committee, and more importantly our membership for their participation and donations.
The next big charity event was our Silent Auction which supports three charities below and was held on June 18th Poker Run weekend. Silent Auction raised over $18,700 for our charities. This was the second largest amount we have raised over the years. Thank you to our Silent Auction committee and all the members for opening their hearts to make this such a successful auction.
•Levine Dickson Hospice House of Huntersville
•Davidson-Cornelius Children’s Development Center
•Calvin Newman Fund for Youth Safe Boating

Also, a big thank you to our club and members for supporting the very important blood drives that were held this year.
As I reflect on 2022, it was a very successful year holding exciting member events and again I can’t thank the 2022 Fleet Committee, partnership with the club, many volunteers and especially the members for making 2022 such a fun year.
The year is not over yet and calling all boaters to take part in the Lighted Boat Parade on December 10th, please register your boat for this traditional boating event.
In closing, your 2022 Fleet Committee would like to extend our best wishes to you and your families for a wonderful Holiday Season and hope to see you at the club.
