The Trying Times of the Prophet Job of the Bible.
Volume 2: So Job’s second test begins. Satan left but afflicted Job with painful sores from his feet to his head. His wife told him to curse God and die. Job’s friends and family saw how great his suffering was. Job wanted to die but he never cursed God. He wondered why to those who long for death which does not come; Job 3:21. He says he has no peace, no quietness, no rest but only turmoil. Man is born for trouble. But, if they were I would appeal to God. God in the Hebrew Old Testament bible at this time is Shaddai. Job had 3 close friends who all thought he had many sins and their advise was to repent and God would stop his punishing him. Job knew he was innocent of what they were saying about him. Job finally speaks, Chapter 7:8-11: Therefore I will not keep silent, I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. Another friend said to him, when your children sinned against him (God) he gave them over to the penalty of their sins. So you see folks, there is judgment for our sins. She told Job God will restore him to his rightful place. Our days on this earth are but a shadow. Job says in Chapter 8 Verse 21, although I am blameless I have no concern for myself, I despise my own life. He concluded by accusing his friends and even God of the lack of sympathy. In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. Even though Job didn’t like what was going on, his faith grew stronger. Folks, he passed all the tests Satan threw at him. He made good of God’s challenge against Satan. He valued his faith in God even above his own life. You see folks Job thought God was the one who brought on all his torment. He also says man springs up like a flower and withers away like a fleeting shadow, he does not endure. God did not condemn Job’s varying moods; instead he didn’t like the words of Job’s friends. Chapter 15:16; how much less man who is vile and corrupt who drinks up evil like water. Verse 20 tells us all his days the wicked man suffers torment, the ruthless through all the years stored up for him. Terrifying sounds fill his ears and when all seems well marauders attack him. Job gives us 4 important reminders: A) Going through trying times does not mean that God does not love you, B) Going through trying times does not mean that your faith is either weak or strong, C) Going through trying times does not mean that God is ignoring you, D) Going through trying times gives you the opportunity to discover the grace and power of God.

,Martha “Frances” Browning was born on August 3, 1926 in Thomaston, Georgia to her parents W.C. and Martha (Self) Allgood. She passed away on October 3, 2017 in Arcadia, Florida at the age of 91. Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia and enjoyed family gatherings, the beach and a “real” seafood dinner. She was well known for her excellent cooking skills. Frances leaves behind her daughters Sharon (Avery) Mills of Arcadia, FL, Linda (Dennis) Lamb of Murphy, North Carolina, and Katie Stewart of Daytona Beach, FL; sister Betty Keene of Arcadia, FL; grandchildren Melinda (Pete) Boehm of Arcadia, FL, Melissa (Claude) Corriveau of Arcadia, FL, Joseph Kelly of Griffin, Georgia, and Kim Stewart of Daytona Beach, FL; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. Frances is preceded in death by her late husband William L. Browning, daughter Sandy, brothers Bobby and Bucky Allgood and her parents. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10 am-12 pm with a funeral service commencing at 12 pm at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home. Sally L. Blakeslee (Keefe) 78, of Panama, New York and Arcadia, Florida, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 4, 2017. Sally was a follower of Christ and showed her love for him in all she did. Born in Jamestown, NY on July 29, 1939 the daughter of Donald E. Keefe Sr. and Virginia M. Keefe. Sally graduated from Chautauqua School in 1957. She eloped and married Vermont Blakeslee on October 25, 1957. Sally worked at Weise Hardware and Chautauqua County BOCES and discovered that she loved working with handicapped children. She was a member of Panama Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, Bible Study teacher and AWANA leader. Sally loved her husband, family and friends (both in New York and Florida) and enjoyed sharing her life with them. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vermont W. Blakeslee. Sally is also survived by two sons: Dene (Pamela) Blakeslee of Ashville, NY and David (Amy) Blakeslee of Cumming, Georgia; two daughters: Holly (Mike) Clark, Panama, NY and Amanda Durnell of Kalamazoo, Michigan; three sisters: Vicki Acquisto of Stow, New York, Sue Nelson of Commercial Point, Ohio and Sherry Fitzgerald of Englewood, Florida; Two brothers: Donald Keefe of Stedman, New York and Tim Keefe of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 14 grandchildren: Nathan Blakeslee, Aaron Blakeslee, Evan Blakeslee, Megan Blakeslee, Jacob Clark, Caleb Clark, Ryan Kuenzi, Richele Walston, Virginia Blakeslee, Avery Blakeslee, Ben Blakeslee, Collin Durnell, Allisandria Durnell and Jadon Durnell; six Great Grandchildren: Madeline Kuenzi, Clara Kuenzi, Henry Kuenzi, Liam Walston, Sophie Walston, Sadie Walston and many nieces, nephews, and cousins! Sally is predeceased by her parents and a daughter, Amy Kuenzi. Ann Purvis Dykes, 82, passed away on October 7, 2017 at her home in Lutz, Florida, after a twelve year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ann was born in Arcadia, Florida, on January 19, 1935, to Erma (Richardson) and Judge Lewis Edward Purvis, Sr. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Walter Edmund Dykes, two children, Stephanie Dykes Brooks and Edmund Dykes, son-in-law Dr. Joseph Roy Brooks, and four grandchildren- Joseph Roy Brooks II (Nicole Brooks), Cameran Brooks, Lauren Dykes, and Katherine Dykes, and one nephew, John Mizell (Lisa Mizell). Ann was a graduate of Desoto High School's Class of 1953. She attended Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and Queens Choir. She transferred to Florida State University where she majored in fashion design and was a member of Gamma Alpha Chi Honorary Sorority and The Fashion Institute. She won many local beauty pageants and vocal competitions and frequently competed at state level. She received a Bachelor of the Arts in education from the University of South Florida in 1969. She was a teacher in Desoto County and moved to Tampa in 1968. She began teaching first grade at Citrus Park Elementary, where she worked for many years. She loved teaching children and dedicated much of her life to taking care of her grandchildren. She felt that her children and grandchildren were her greatest gift and always had enormous pride and joy in each and every one of them. She remained active most of her life in Chi Omega Sorority and was instrumental in founding the Chi Omega chapter at the University of South Florida. She was a lifelong member of the D.A.R., Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, American Red Cross, and the Florida Orchestra. Ann was an exceptional mother, grandmother, devoted wife, and friend. She would light up a room with her smile and outgoing personality. She was creative, fun-loving, and endlessly positive in spirit. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. A graveside service will be held at Owens Cemetery also known as Mount Ephraim Baptist Church Cemetery in Owens, Florida, DeSoto County, on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at 10:30am. The Rev. Melissa H. Rucki was born on July 17, 1952 in Wilson, NJ to her parents Stephen M. and Helen L. (Keckner) Matviak. After the unfortunate early passing of her parents, Melissa found a welcoming home with Russell and Violet Read of Washington, NJ. She also gained 2 “brothers” Russell and David Read. Russ and Violet provided a loving home for her (and later her children). When the Reads moved to Arcadia, FL in 1987, Melissa and her children accompanied them and Melissa spent the remainder of her life there. Melissa passed away on September 4, 2017 in Arcadia, FL. Melissa leaves behind her son Stephen E. Rucki of Arcadia, FL and her daughter Valleri (Joseph) R. Lowe of Bradenton, FL; 4 grandchildren; brother Andrew (Sue) Matviak of Sidney, NY; her sister Bonnie Phillips of WinstonSalem, NC; and her loving “mom” Violet Read and “brother” David (Myra) Read; and many extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. Melissa was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and proud Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed board games and most of all, helping others however she could. Daisy N. Waldron was born on May 23, 1929 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky to her parents Paul E. and Frances (Myers) Nelson. She passed away on October 5, 2017 in Arcadia, Florida at the age of 88. Daisy is survived by her son Ron Waldron of Arcadia and Kathy (Waldron) McNeely of Sandersville, Georgia; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. Daisy is preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas H. Waldron Jr. Daisy moved to Florida from Kentucky as a small child. She committed a lot of her time to learning and eventually obtaining her Master's Degree in Elementary Education. She was a dedicated teacher with Sallie Jones Elementary School, Punta Gorda, Memorial Elementary School, Arcadia, and Twin Wells Indian School, Arizona for 30 years as well as sold Tupperware for over 10 years. She was the Missionary Society President and a member of the Arcadia Church of the Nazarene. In the 80's, Daisy traveled with Tom on a mission trip to Dominica to help build a church and school. Her selfless service and desire to help others will never be forgotten. Daisy's family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 10-11 AM at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home. A funeral service will commence at 11 AM. Daisy will be laid to rest with her husband privately at Joshua Creek Cemetery. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home is entrusted with burial arrangements. Junior had obviously come back for the pill. If not, why had he waited so long? I think he thought it was better to stay out of our lives or maybe it was just because it was so far away. Either way, he was here now and it was good to see him and to know he was ok. Hearing about his new life and family was great. I was so happy for him. He was so proud of his family. You could tell by the way he talked, that his little girl was weighing heavy on his mind. He made it clear that she was his biggest priority. As we talked, he continued to ask me about that little pink pill. But, him asking for the pill was different now. It felt like something bigger than us was at work. Now, I knew that he needed that pill and why. I couldn’t help but think that maybe that was why I had never given it to someone all those years. Maybe it was always meant for his little girl. It took me a minute to actually go get that little pink pill. After all, I had that pink pill for a very long time. It had been something I would think about every night before I went to sleep and usually the first thing I would think about when I woke up in the morning. So giving up that pill was going to be just a little rough. I got up and went into my closet, I took out the little glass jar I had put it in. For the first time in many years, I opened the jar and took the pill out. It was just as bright as ever and somehow it felt like it was a part of me. That it belonged to me and no one else. I had never really thought very much about giving it away before. Oh sure I thought about it, but I had never come this close before. Then something came over me. A strange feeling that I had not had before. A funny feeling, like I was going to bust with happiness. I began to feel like I was doing the right thing, that this pill was going to the right person and it was me that had made it happen. What a great feeling I was having. I just stood there and enjoyed that strange feeling. After a few minutes, I started going toward Junior. As I turned and came out of the closet, the feeling was still with me. Walking over to Junior, that feeling was getting stronger and stronger. Still when I got to him, I just stood there. I couldn’t move. And when I did try to give the pill to him, my arm would just not lift up. I couldn’t make my arm push my hand over to him. The feeling now I was having was stronger than ever. After a few minutes my arm began to move again and I handed him the little pink pill. I’m not really sure what happened next. Was it the happiness Junior had for now having the pill that he thought would cure his little girl, or was it the feeling I was having over saving that pill for his little girl? All I know is, I have never ever had any kind of feeling like I was having now. The joy in my heart was about to make it bust. We both just stood there and cried, then we would laugh and then we would cry again. Over and over that went on for quite a while. Junior gave me a great big hug and whispered in my ear that he thanked God for me and how he needed to go to get this little pink pill to his little girl. I agreed and off he went, leaving just as fast as he had come in, Junior was gone. I didn’t hear from Junior for a few weeks and then one night the phone rang and it was Junior. As soon as I heard his voice I knew things were alright. The sound of his words were crackly but in a good way. I finally made sense of what he was saying enough to know the little pink pill had saved his little girl’s life. She was happy as ever and the test had come back showing that her cancer was gone. That’s been many years now and I have not heard a word from Junior. I still wonder when I say my prayers at night, did God heal that little girl or did he just make sure I saved the pill for her? To me it doesn’t matter, she is well and the little pink pill is gone. No more will I have the burden of who to give the little pink pill too… The End
