We would like to thank DMI for their letter on the next page: The DMI Reading Week (June 5th-9th) brought together local schools to celebrate an amazing accomplishment. DMI challenged students to collectively read one million minutes on behalf of their schools throughout the year. Those who succeeded (and many did!) got to attend Reading Week and participate in a carnival full of fun games. Peace River Library staff volunteered and had a fantastic time leading readers in exciting events like Laundry Basket Basketball, Separation Anxiety, and Boot Scoot! We would like to thank DMI and Amber Armstrong for organizing the Reading Week and encouraging our local students to love reading as much as we do. 2

SPECIAL EVENTS On behalf of Daishowa-Marubeni International Ltd., Peace River Pulp Division, we would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the staff of the Peace River Library. Our organization has been working with regional schools for over 26 years through our reading program. Our first program, Patti Poplar, was focused on individual reading success; however, we believe that when individuals combine their efforts towards a team, magic happens. In 2012, we reinvented and introduced our new program “A Million Minutes to Win It.” Each student, class, and school were asked to read and track their minutes. We promised them a wonderful celebration at the end of each reading year, and much like a good book, they had to finish their part of the story to find out how it ended. This year, we needed help with our celebration. We had it planned at the same time as our annual mill shutdown, and there were no extra PRPD hands to help host the students in this massive undertaking. I was concerned, worried about how to execute the 18 events, and that’s when the PRML came to our rescue. Nathan Miné -Goldring, Programs Coordinator, enthusiastically stated that he had a solution. The PRML has been working so hard to connect with the community, to showcase their exceptional talents and wonderful library and programs, so we were honoured to partner with them and readily accepted their offer of help. To Megan Toker, Madeline Martel, and Garrett Cosgrave, we say thank you. You spent a week in June with smiles, energy, enthusiasm, and it made a difference to 1,200+ students from Dixonville, Grimshaw, Peace River, Nampa, and Little Buffalo. We used no technology. We played 18 simple games. We laughed a lot. But perhaps most importantly, we made new friends, and saw how volunteering and working together makes a difference. That, to us, was the perfect end to a great story. Read a little, gain a lot. Work together, change the world. On behalf of your friends at PRPD, Amber Armstrong Communications and Public Relations Superintendent

MOVIES IN THE LIBRARY July 8th The Mysterious Island

A plague of locusts strikes the Great Valley, decimating the plants and forcing the dinosaurs to migrate in search of food. When the adults in the herd begin fighting over the scarce resources, young Littlefoot and his friends Petrie, Cera, Ducky and Spike split off from the main group, becoming stranded on an island after their path was destroyed by a tsunami. As they search for a way off the island, they encounter an old acquaintance who may become friend or foe.

July 15th The Secret of Saurus Rock

Grandpa tells Littlefoot about their mythical hero called the Lone Dinosaur, a legendary Longneck who protected the Great Valley from the most ferocious Sharptooth to ever live. Soon after the battle, a huge monolith resembling a sauropod with life-sized Sharptooth teeth arranged around his neck comes out of the ground during an earthshake. Later, the kids accidentally chip the lucky Saurus Rock, and need to fix it before the bad luck hits after.

July 22nd The Stone of Cold Fire

Littlefoot and his pals set off in search of a "stone of cold fire" that fell from the night sky. Since he's the only one who has seen it though, nobody really believes him. Petrie's uncle Pterano offers support only because he thinks the stone has secret powers and wants it for himself but conceals this from the rest. The young dinos must figure out the truth, before Pterano gets the power.

July 29th The Big Freeze

When the dinosaur families get trapped in a valley by an ice storm, one family of "spike tail" dinosaurs volunteers to leave since they consume more food than the others. Meanwhile, the young dinos and a new adult dinosaur named Mr. Thicknose, head out to bring back their friend Spike, who has left his friends to be with members of his own species.

All movies begin at 2pm unless otherwise noted. See our website (www.prmlibrary.ab.ca) for synopses. 9
