Bursaries & Subsidies Increasing Accessibility

weeks before the class/lesson start date to which the bursary will be applied.

At Place des Arts our goal is to increase engagement with, and accessibility to, the arts. We aim to make it possible for everyone to enjoy the benefits of participating in the arts regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Visit our “Scholarships and Bursaries” page to find our bursary guidelines and an application form.

To advance this goal, we raise funds through sponsorships, grants and our annual online auction (see page 41) which allows us to remove financial barriers through bursaries and program subsidies as well as low-cost and no cost programs and events. Bursaries Anyone in our community, age 17 and under who wishes to take classes or lessons but may not be able to afford our full fees, is eligible to apply.

All applicants will be notified of the status of their application within two weeks of the submission date. Awarded bursary amounts will be placed as a credit on the applicant’s Place des Arts account. Program Subsidies In partnership with the City of Coquitlam’s Financial Assistance for Recreation (FAR)* and our local social service agencies, we provide full and partial subsidies to our arts education programs.

Subsidized programs and events Place des Arts fully subsidizes our Artist-inResidence program for local school children, providing fun and engaging arts workshops at no-cost to schools. Our Creative HeARTs program provides newcomer families with free opportunities to engage in the arts. Each year, our fully subsidized Summer Theatre Troupe program provides youth the opportunity to mount a show and perform it for the public at Coquitlam parks. Check out our events on page 42 to learn about the low-cost and free events on offer to the public.

*to be eligible for FAR, please apply through the City of Coquitlam. For more information visit coquitlam.ca/499/ Financial-Assistance-for-Recreation
