SPRING BREAK CAMP 2025

Kindergarten - Grade 2 (Choose one half-day block)

Sign-in begins at 8:45 AM and classes start at 9:00 AM

Kindergarten - Grade 5 Spring Break Full-Day Camp

Monday – Friday, March 17 - 21 | 9:00 AM - 3:35 PM

Students from kindergarten to grade 2 and grades 3 to 5 choose one full-day block. Each block contains six classes. Please refer to the timetable for the content of each block. Students must bring a nut-free lunch and a snack each day.

Kindergarten - Grade 2 Spring Break Half-Day Camp

Monday – Friday, March 24 - 28 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Students from kindergarten to grade 2 choose one half-day block. Each block contains three classes. Please refer to the timetable for the content of each block.

Grades 6 - 9 Spring Break Youth Half-Day Camps

Monday – Friday, March 17 - 21 & 24 - 28 | 9:00 AM - 3:35 PM

These six, week-long, half-day youth camps are designed specifically for youth, allowing them to delve more fully into their chosen art form. Students taking both morning and afternoon camps should bring a nut-free lunch and snack each day. Please note: Place des Arts does not provide supervision. (see: Youth Camp Supervision Policy)

Registration opens on January 26, 2025

Registration opens on Sunday, January 26, 2025. Registration may be done online starting at 7:00 am or at 1:00 pm in-person or by phone by calling 604-664-1636. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment of program fees must be made at the time of registration.

Withdrawal Policy

A student may withdraw up to seven (7) days prior to the camp start date. A refund of the camp fee will be granted less the non-refundable registration fee. Refunds will not be granted after the seven (7) day period has passed. Exceptions for medical or compassionate reasons may be considered upon receipt of a written request submitted at least 24 hours prior to the start date of the class to info@placedesarts.ca. A medical certificate may be required. Upon approval, a refund of the camp fee will be granted, less the registration fee and any applicable supply fees.

Place des Arts is a nut-aware facility during camps. As some camp participants have allergies, please do not bring foods with nuts or nut products to camp.

Colour & Pattern Play

Have fun with colours and patterns! Learn about the colour wheel and colour mixing through finger painting, collage, printmaking, drawing and painting. Make exciting projects like pattern Mandala vinyl records using posca paint markers and use squishy paint to make abstract art works. This class is rewarding for young artists of every skill level. Creative Cardboard Canvas

In this hands-on class, students will discover the innovative technique of DIY cardboard painting on canvas. Explore creativity and self-expression by transforming ordinary cardboard into stunning three-dimensional art pieces! Teacher: Matin Komeili

Dance & Movement

Have fun and learn how to express yourself through a variety of dance and movement activities. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking, indoor running shoes or bare feet. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Dramarama

Make up stories, characters and new worlds using your imagination. Learn about creative expression and teamwork through fun and interactive theatre games.

Hip Hop & Breakdance

Explore the fundamentals of hip hop and breakdancing and kick it old school with classic moves like 6-step and learn how to pop and lock, then combine the moves into a wicked piece. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking, indoor running shoes or bare feet. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Origami Band Room

Capture the spirit of music with origami!

Using colourful paper and easy-to-learn techniques, you will create origami musicians and musical instruments including guitar, piano, tambourine and more.

Origami Springtime

Create a delightful spring scene with origami!

In this class, you will learn to fold a charming chicken and her adorable chicks, alongside vibrant flowers and fluttering butterflies. Celebrate the beauty of springtime nature with paper creations that bring the season to life. Teacher: Sarah Park

Origami Wizard Forest

Let’s make magic with origami! Learn to make a magical forest filled with a witch’s house, crows, a wizard’s cauldron and other enchanting props. By the end of week, you will feel like a true master of magical paper crafting. Teacher: Sarah Park

Play Guitar!

Discover the guitar in this fun ensemble setting. Learn basic chord shapes, rhythms and techniques for playing simple song arrangements. Cover basic theory and learn about musical genres by listening to and playing blues, jazz, rock, country, pop, hip-hop, classical and more! Guitars are provided for use in this class.

Puppet Garden

Create your very own Puppet Garden! Learn to make a bird and/or bee puppet and design a cardboard garden back drop along with other elements including a watering can, a leaf butterfly, a bouquet of smiling flowers and a sock puppet gardener. All puppets created will live in the garden waiting for you to bring them to life.

Rhythm Changes

Rhythm is a basic element that makes music universal. Explore rhythmic patterns from various cultures and genres around the world. Then learn to compose, improvise and perform with these rhythmic elements. Teacher: Austin Ching

Printing Magic

In this class, children will gain a good understanding of the concept of printing as they learn different methods for transferring textures and images onto paper. They will learn about positive and negative spaces, explore lines, shapes and colours, and then experiment with the idea of layering to create unique and intriguing artwork. Teacher: Mariana Frochtengarten

Spring Palette

Learn how to incorporate the bright and vibrant colours of spring with dry and wet materials to create unique mixed-media paintings inspired by nature. Get inspiration from flower blooms, green grass, rainbows, birds and butterflies. The sky is the limit with your imagination!

Water World

Dive into the exploration of marine and coastal life through drawing, painting, modeling clay and collaging. Utilize a palette of bright, vibrant colors and diverse techniques to create an aquatic masterpiece. Find inspiration from sea sponges, octopi, fish, seals, turtles and more!

Expressive Arts

Hone your drawing and painting skills, learn about contrast, negative space, composition and more while looking for inspiration in unusual places like your name, feet or a mirror. The week will include word games, movement and modelling with polymer clay. Express yourself in this dynamic, engaging class for bold and shy artists alike. Teacher: Lena Savic Fibre Explorations

Learn about different fibres and their uses while creating beautiful projects. Explore a variety of techniques such as spinning and dyeing, weaving on a table loom, wet felting and more. Teacher: Catherine Dumaine

Fundamentals of Hand-Drawn Animation

Explore animation from its basic principles and techniques to its unique capabilities as a storytelling medium. By the end of the week, create a short animation. Finished projects will be emailed to families approximately three weeks after the camp end date. Teacher: Riley O’Neill

Minimalist Painting: The Art of Simplicity

Dive into the world of minimalist painting by exploring the beauty of simplicity. Create your own minimalist masterpieces and discover the impact of space and composition in art. Less is more! Teacher: Matin Komeili

Stitch, Bead and Bedazzle

Create your own jewelry, tote bags and more using decorative hand stitching and embellishment techniques. Explore embroidery, basic sewing machine skills, work with beads and rhinestones and up-cycled materials while learning about sustainable fashion practices. Students are encouraged to bring in a second-hand item or a personal item needing repairs.

Theatre Club

Actors to the stage! Learn to follow your impulses and improve your rehearsal and performance skills. Work creatively and connect with your peers to devise your show. Perform it for your friends and family at the end of the week.

Youth Camp Supervision Policy

Place des Arts does not provide supervision before or after camp or during break times for students registered in our youth camps. Place des Arts does not assume responsibility for the well-being and safety of minors who are left unattended. If your child(ren) are registered for both the morning and afternoon camps, they are welcome to eat their lunch at tables in the atrium or outside on the Place des Arts grounds during the lunchtime break between classes (12:00-12:35 pm). Students must remain on the Place des Arts grounds during lunch and within the designated boundaries, which will be identified on the first day of camp by a Place des Arts staff member. Alternatively, parents are welcome to pick up their child(ren) and leave the Place des Arts grounds during lunchtime.
