Camp Behaviour Policy • Health Concerns
It is our goal for all students attending camps to have the best experience possible in a warm and welcoming environment. To promote consistent behaviour expectations among students we use the “FISH” policy. We recommend reviewing the FISH policy with the student prior to camp.
F = Follow instructions = Include everyone = Show respect = Help each other
If any student has difficulty meeting our behaviour expectations, we will follow our four-step plan:
1. Verbal warning: Our first response will be a verbal intervention to help the student understand the impact their behaviour is having on others.
2. Supervised time out: If the behaviour continues, the student will be removed from the program for a supervised time out. The student’s parent/guardian will be notified of the incident and will be asked to review the behaviour policy with their student.
3. Pick-up: If the behaviour continues, the parent/ guardian will be contacted and asked to pick up the student immediately with the student missing the rest of the day.
4. Dismissal: A student may be dismissed if their behaviour prevents safe and effective participation in our programs. Dismissal may occur after a consultation between the parent/guardian, student, program staff and Place des Arts’ Executive Director. No refunds will be granted.
Note: Place des Arts has the discretion to dismiss a student immediately under appropriate circumstances.
Health Concerns
• Prior to the start of the student’s camp, please advise Place des Arts staff of any health concerns, including food allergies or support needs, that the student may have. This helps to ensure a successful experience. Please update the Medical Alert section on the student’s account with any relevant information or email us at summercamp@placedesarts.ca.
• Parents/guardians are responsible for administering any medications required by the student. Although our staff members have First Aid training, they cannot administer medication, except for an EpiPen, in the case of an emergency. If the student has an EpiPen, they must carry it on their person at all times. EpiPens cannot be stored in a backpack. Alternatively, EpiPens can be labelled with the student’s name and left with Camp Staff at sign-in. Please email us at summercamp@placedesarts.ca if you have questions or have more information to share about the student’s medical needs.
