Looking for something creative to do with the family?

Curious about programs at Place des Arts? Join us for an art-filled afternoon with fun activities for all ages led by our skilled teachers. At this free event, explore our current exhibitions, experiment with art materials and discover the performing arts. Any creations made during this event can be taken home. Preregistration is encouraged.

2025 Spring Break Camp

March 17 – 21, 24 – 28, 2025 • K - Grade 9

This camp provides beginner and experienced students the opportunity to try new activities in the visual and performing arts.

March 17 – 21, 2025 • K-Grade 5

Students choose one full-day block (six classes).

March 24 – 28, 2025 • K-Grade 2

Students choose one half-day block (three classes).

March 17 – 21, 24 – 28, 2025 • Grade 6-9

These innovative youth camps allow tweens and teens to explore specific artistic disciplines in-depth.

Registration opens January 26, 2025.

Mr. I’s Slightly Spooky Songs and Stories

Mr. I’s popular annual Halloween concert will enchant youngsters and their parents alike. Costumes are welcome and audience participation is encouraged.

Tickets: $10/person (+GST)

Our popular events and performances include faculty concerts, exhibition openings and fun, art-filled events for the whole family.

General Information

Day of the Arts runs from 9:00 AM to 3:35 PM. Students choose from activity blocks which are a mix of art activities. For a list of activities in each block, please refer to the timetable inside this brochure. Small class sizes in each block ensure that students receive quality instruction. Students should wear clothes for movement and getting messy. Students should also bring nut-free snacks, lunch, a water bottle and a bag or box to hold completed artwork.

Withdrawals

A student may withdraw up to seven (7) days prior to the camp start date. A request to withdraw must be submitted to the registration desk, over the phone at 604-664-1636 ext. 0 or via email to info@ placedesarts.ca. Upon receipt of a withdrawal request, a refund of the class fee will be granted less the non-refundable registration fee. Refunds will not be granted after the seven (7) day period has passed. Exceptions for medical or compassionate reasons may be considered upon receipt of a written request submitted at least 24 hours prior to the start date of the class to info@placedesarts.ca. A medical certificate may be required. Upon approval, a refund of the class fee will be granted, less the registration fee, processing fee for online enrolments and any applicable supply fees.

Camp Descriptions

Abstract Pattern Painting

Create beautiful pattern paintings using oil pastels and watercolour paint within a grid framework. Explore shapes, colour combinations, textures and colours to create a fun and beautiful abstract painting. Teacher: Cyd Eva

Drumming and Rhythm

Learn to play rhythms of the world with shakers, bells and body percussion. Use your hands, drumsticks, mallets and voices to make music. Teacher: Jason Overy

Drawing an Imaginary Creature

Conjure up an imaginary creature by using your imagination and real-world animal form and structure. Explore an array of artistic techniques to bring your creature to life in all its strangeness and splendour . Teacher: Riley O’Neill

Eccentric Animals

Learn to draw, paint and decorate unusual animals! Draw animal characters with a unique personality, then use your imagination to add details to the scene. Use paint, markers and pastels to add colour and bring your work of art to life. Teacher: Cara Bain

Friendship Bracelets

Friendship bracelets are popular around the world and worn by people of all ages. Learn basic fibre art techniques to make bracelets for your friends and family. Teacher: Catherine Dumaine

Hip Hop Kids

Dance to the beat and learn some moves from a variety of hip hop styles! Take part in various movement and coordination games and fun activities. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking running shoes or bare feet. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Hip Hop and Breakdance

Explore the fundamentals of hip hop and breakdancing! Kick it old school with classic moves like the baby freeze and learn how to pop and lock, then combine the moves into a wicked piece! Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and non-marking running shoes or bare feet. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Mixed Media: Arctic Art

Create beautiful mixed media artwork inspired by the lines, shapes, colours, textures and patterns found in various arctic animals such as polar bears, snowy owls, arctic foxes and beluga whales! Teacher: Clarissa Banos

Musical Theatre

Learn to dance, sing and act in this lively class! Play fun, interactive drama games and learn physical and vocal warm-ups. Then dive into the basics of musical theatre including character development, coordination and storytelling. Teacher: Joanna Kovats

Origami Spring Wreath

Make a spring decoration with origami! Use paper-folding skills to create a paper wreath with cute paper puppies and flowers. Teacher: Sarah Park

Storytelling & Fairytale Adventures

Dive into the enchanting world of fairy tales! Engage in interactive storytelling, roleplaying and imaginative exercises to spark creativity and boost confidence. Work together to create scenes, solve problems and express yourself in a supportive and fun environment. Teacher: Crystal Koskinen
