Fibre Arts: Adults new Creative Spin: Intro to Yarn Spinning

18+ years

Learn how to spin as a mindfulness practice or to produce yarn for fibre projects. You will learn how a spinning wheel works and how the features of the wheel can affect your spinning. This class will cover fibre choice and preparation, drafting styles, basic techniques for spinning and plying and finishing yarns for various uses. This class is suitable for students new to the practice and those with some experience. Supplies included. Spinning wheels are available for at-home practice; equipment loans require a deposit. Bring your own wheel if you have one. Registered students can sign-up for studio time to access spinning wheels. Introduction to Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving 18+ years

This class is suited to beginners and those looking to explore weaving using a rigid heddle loom. These looms are lightweight, portable and take up very little space. Best of all, they are user-friendly and can weave a wide variety of items from sturdy rugs and tapestries to beautiful scarves and hand towels. Beginners will learn to plan projects, set up the loom and practice weaving. Returning students will have the opportunity to work on self-directed projects. Supplies included.
