Taken from the 1994 Disney classic The Lion King, “It’s the circle of life – and it moves us all through despair and hope; through faith and love, ‘til we find our place on the path unwinding...”
A new era has begun in the imaginary world of Disney. Clock hands now unwind to the animated classics of the 90s, and are now transformed into live-action remakes such as Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, and many more hits.
Disney’s reintroductions of classics flick a debate among all ages, most especially among Millennials, Generation X, and Generation Z, where one question stands: What is the purpose of storytelling? If storytelling aims to convey narratives, ideas, and lessons – regardless of audience – must it transcend over significant aspects of human identity like culture, history, race, ethnicity, and gender?
The technology of filmmaking roars, as shown by the latest Disney releases in using cutting-edge CGI, but real-life actors replace animated characters. The original Disney films included iconic plotlines, themes, and soundtracks, but launch standards, stereotypes, norms, and beliefs set onto the next generations. The ideal society must adapt to the demands of times, yet somehow, the human mindset is unable to move traditions, expectations, and generalizations. The media such as Disney plays a big role in shaping society, as it holds the ability to influence wide-ranging audiences, then and now, and certainly in the future.
