The hospitality industry has been amongst the hardest hit in the last 18 months and we’re thrilled to see the sector reopened at last.

Paisley town centre boasts a great selection of bars and pubs with more than just a drink on offer…let us take you on a tour of Paisley’s finest!

e start our journey at Gabriels on Gauze Street. With a new menu recently launched, food is served seven days a week until late. Guests can also watch a variety of sports and enjoy events such as Quiz Night on a Wednesday, Karaoke on a Friday and a DJ on Saturdays. There is also a private function suite available for hire.

Next, we pop around the corner to the Abbey Bar on Lawn Street. Another favourite for delicious pub food served daily, also offering a wide range of premium beers, wines and spirits. For entertainment, there’s the Abbey Open Mic night every Monday, a General Knowledge Quiz on Wednesdays and Karaoke on Saturdays.

Back onto Gauze Street and we find ourselves at the Anchor Bar. As well as an extensive drinks menu, you can also watch Live Sports, and enjoy a mix of Live Music and Karaoke every weekend with regular Open Mic and Quiz Nights too.

Turning onto Smithhill Street now for one of the town’s more traditional pubs, the Tile Bar. With friendly staff, an authentic welcome is always guaranteed along with a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Just a few doors along, we arrive at the Old Swan. Famous for its regular live music and events, Swing Tuesdays and Afternoon Tea has also made a welcome return to their events calendar this autumn. With an all-year-round beer garden on offer, this venue is also Paw Friendly, outdoors only excluding Saturdays.

Moving on to Old Sneddon Street and we head to the Patter Bar offering that ever popular combo of Live Music and Karaoke with the latter every Friday and Monday. As well as pool, there’s also

outdoor seating when the weather allows, this venue is also Paw Friendly.

Further along Old Sneddon Street and we find another of the town’s traditional pubs, the Argyll Bar. Another friendly venue offering the chance to watch Live Sport with regular Karaoke too.

Next, we are turning up and into Moss Street and heading to The Club Bar where a friendly welcome always awaits.

As well as Live Sports on TV, there’s live music regularly on Friday evenings plus Karaoke every Saturday and Sunday night too.

Across the road on Moss Street, we arrive at the Brewers Tap, another traditional pub selling beer, lager, wine and spirits as well as showing Live Sport.

If you are lucky, you might pop in during one of their regular party nights.

Heading down to County Square and you will find yourself at The Last Post.

Housed in the town’s former post office building and just across from Paisley Gilmour Street Train Station, the drinks offering includes real ales, craft beers and food is served daily until late. There’s also an outdoor seating area looking out across the Square.

Turning right now onto Gilmour Street and we arrive at The Keg. Serving Americana style food daily, you can enjoy Live Music on Fridays and Saturdays along with events like Quiz Night on Tuesdays and Open Mic on Wednesdays.

As well as giant screens for Live Sports, they also have a large outdoor covered beer garden. This is another Paw Friendly venue, daily until 6pm.

Just a few doors along on Gilmour Street and we’re at the Bankhouse. With an extensive menu of homemade food served all day, kids can also enjoy a sit down meal until 8pm. As well as 11 large

screens for Live Sporting action, there’s also Karaoke and Live Music on offer at weekends, and outdoor seating available when the sun shines!

Our tour of Paisley’s bars and pubs now takes us on to the town’s High Street.

Here we soon find ourselves at the Ugly Duck. Another great pub with a mouth-watering bar menu. As well as regular Karaoke, this autumn will see one winner walk away with a £1000 prize as part of the Ugly Duck’s first ever Karaoke Competition. As well as outdoor seating to the front, there’s also a covered outdoor beer garden at the back and a private function suite is also available to hire.

Further along, De Beers can be found at the corner of the High Street and Storie Street, just a stone throw away from the University of the West of Scotland. Another great place to get caught up in a friendly atmosphere with all the Live Sporting action, De Beers offers a great selection of drinks and a cracking outdoor beer garden.

We’re heading back down the High Street now to another of the town’s traditional pubs which could be straight off the telly, the Wee Howff. With a great selection of drinks and a friendly atmosphere, if they didn’t know your name when you arrived, they will by the time you leave. Another of our Paw Friendly Paisley pubs.

Now we’re turning right and heading down New Street, where you’ll be spoiled for choice regardless of your favourite tipple.

First stop is at the Bull Inn. Established in 1901, The Bull Inn claims to be the oldest pub in Paisley but is bang up to date – you can order your drinks from their app without leaving your seat. With a Quiz Night on Tuesday and all the Live Sporting action you can watch, the Bull Inn is also Paw Friendly.

Next up is Gantry with its relaxed vibe and all manner of quality drinks on offer including premium and classic cocktails, whiskies and malts and not forgetting, their ever popular Prosecco Sundays.

With an Open Mic night every Tuesday, Gantry also hosts a Pub Quiz every Wednesday evening.

Staying on New Street and Whisky Joe’s Bar has recently reopened following an extensive refurbishment by new owners. Pop in and welcome

them to Paisley town centre, enjoy a great selection of drinks and there’s Live Music most Friday evenings and a DJ and Karaoke every Saturday too. #Bar is next up on our tour and another great place to enjoy a few drinks and watch Live Sports on multiple screens. With free Pool on Mondays and Karaoke Thursdays and Sundays, Friday and Saturdays are party nights with free entry wristbands for KLUB Fantoosh upstairs on offer before 10pm.

If all this walking has left you peckish, have no fear we’re heading to Barga Paisley on New Street next. A great new bar housed in the old Café Borgia building, the team here are serving up an assorted mix of street food daily along with cold beers and an extensive cocktail menu. Barga is also Paw Friendly.

Now we’re heading across to the town’s Shuttle Street whose cobbles were awash with outdoor seating throughout the sunshine this summer.

First up is The Lane where you have the choice of chilling out with a cocktail in GOSSIP or relaxing with food and drinks in the Ginger Slug, their modern gastro bar restaurant. With table party packages available, booking is advised for parties of eight or more. The Lane also offers outdoor seating.

Next, we head to the Bungalow, an institution in Paisley when it comes to Live Music. Operating as an independent and ethical live music venue and bar, the Bungalow is open Wednesdays through to Sundays. Booking is advised in advance to be sure of a ticket to enjoy the best of upcoming, new music and popular tribute acts. Outdoor seating is also available.

Staying on Shuttle Street and our next stop is at Bar Pre, a cocktail lounge creating a city centre feel in the heart of Paisley. Offering hand-crafted cocktails and shots with a modern but relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy their DJ events, catch up with all the Live Sporting action or take advantage of their fantastic large beer garden.

Back onto New Street and now we’re headed to another of the town’s venues popular for live music, The Cave. Here

you’ll find a warm, friendly atmosphere with Live Sports on offer plus Live Music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Cave is another of our popular Paw Friendly venues.

Now, we’re turning our attention to Causeyside Street and first stop, Kennedy’s Bar. Serving food daily including favourites such as macaroni cheese and steak pie, afternoon tea is also available but must be booked in advance. There’s Karaoke on offer every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Kennedy’s Bar also has a private function suite available for events and celebrations.

Northern Way is the next stop on our journey, serving up an array of beers, lager and ciders, plus local and national cask ales, spirits and cocktails. A spacious pub, you can also enjoy Live Sporting action across 10 large screen TVs.

For those late, late night owls, Paisley town centre is also home to two amazing clubs and so, we need to end our tour back on New Street.

KLUB Fantoosh is open Thursdays 10pm until 2am, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm until 3am with waitress service and VIP booths with drinks packages available. Don’t forget your free wristband entry in #Bar before 10pm at weekends!

Vienna’s Nightclub is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm until 3am with brand new seating areas, VIP booths and drinks packages available. Their ground level bar Blur has just reopened after an extensive refurbishment and offers the best in 90s music.

If this has whetted your appetite, then head to Paisley’s bars, pubs and clubs for a great night out. The majority of venues serving food are family friendly until 8pm.

With the perfect gin nailed down, the team set to work on branding and marketing but the actual launch of Buddies Gin happened by accident.

“It perfectly fitted what we were trying to achieve. Buddies Gin is a small batch craft gin, created here in Scotland and it’s very, very moreish.”

“You know the kind of friend who gets very excited and is your number 1 fan,” said David. “Well, my friend Mark Rowley, fellow Paisley Buddie and star in The Last Kingdom, is that friend. I shared a picture of a bottle with him, asking for his opinion. He loved it. In fact, he loved it so much he

shared it with his 300,000 followers on Instagram.

“So that was that. Buddies Gin was accidentally launched and it’s been growing ever since. Our very first order came from the Philippines. We had someone looking to buy a bottle of gin for their parents who live in Scotland. It was at this moment I realised our huge our gin could be.

“Everyone has been so supportive, and friendly with amazing feedback and reviews. This is exactly what we wanted to build with Buddies: a community of people who love gin. People who come together to enjoy a drink together. To share the experience with their families - and their buddies of course.

he Butterfly Room is based within What If and offers an alternative and holistic health service, aiming to help people unlock wellbeing. On the first Monday of every month, you can join the Meditation Group from 7pm – 9pm – tickets are priced at £5 with refreshments included. Amanda at the Butterfly Room also hosts the ever-popular Angel Evening on the first Friday of each month from 7pm – 10pm. Demand for these sessions are high but there is a waitlist available – Refreshments are included in the £7 ticket price.

Feel Good Friday takes place on the third Friday of the month from 7pm -10pm with either a donation for refreshments or paid tasters available. en Bailey may not be a native Buddie, but the locals have taken him and his Aladdin’s cave of treasure, Bailey’s Antiques, to their hearts in the place he’s now happy to call home.

child, my parents and grandparents always took us to charity shops and car boot sales. I’ve had about a million jobs over the years and never really been very good at any of them so I have always had a dream to have my own wee shop.

“My Dad had a vintage market stall for a bit and my Grandad had a vintage shop in Leicester before I was born so I suppose it’s in the blood. Family are the real inspiration and that’s why I wanted to call the place Bailey’s. My Grandad passed away a few years ago and he was one of my heroes so it feels like a nice way to celebrate him.

“I moved to Scotland from England about 13 years ago, firstly to Edinburgh, then across to Glasgow and finally Paisley,” says Ben. “In that time, I met my partner Victoria and we now have a two year old daughter called Ramona so Paisley very much feels like home and I love the town and the people.

“I have always had an interest in vintage and antique items and, as a

“I sell a bit of everything, some higher end, antique items and some vintage oddities. I love antiques and old things but I sometimes find antique shops a bit stuffy or exclusive. So, I wanted Bailey’s to be a place where everyone felt welcome and where you could find things that wouldn’t break the bank and where people felt comfortable to browse and touch things and basically enjoy it.

With such a real enthusiasm and passion for the business, is Ben ever tempted to take his work home with him?

“Yes, every day!” laughs Ben. “I do take quite a lot home with me and Victoria usually leaves with a bag full of stuff every time she comes in. My home looks a little bit like the shop but not quite as crazy!

“Personally, I like a lot of the 80s vintage stuff as it reminds me of my youth and I’m a big fan of jewellery and watches and we’ve had some lovely Victorian pieces come through the door too.

“However, the most popular item ever in the shop would have to be Dave the Dalek. He’s a handmade, 6 foot replica Dalek who stands in the window – I get offers for him every day but for now, he’s not for sale. I plan to maybe auction or raffle him off at some point though so watch this space!”

COMICRAZY CAFE When John Gilbert completed his studies at the University of the West of Scotland, he knew he wanted to be his own boss. By combining his passion with his business expertise, he’s created a community hub for fans of comic books and board games for all ages.
