Thetargetaudienceisresidentsandbusinessownerswantingto learnmoreaboutandbeactiveintheircommunity.Sessionswillrun from6:00–8:00p.m.onThursdayeveningsbeginningonMay30,2024.The finalsessionwillbeheldonJune27, 2024,andparticipantswillbeinvitedto attendtheJuly1,2024meetingofthe PleasantHillCityCouncil,wherethey willbepresentedwithGraduation Certificates.

AlignedwiththeNovember5,2024,GeneralElections,PleasantHillresidentsofVotingDistrictsOne,Two,andFivewillvote foronenewCityCouncilmembertorepresentthemwithineach ofthethreedistricts.Residentsmayonlyvoteforacandidate withintheirdistrict.ViceMayorSueNoackandCouncilmember ZacShesswillcontinuetheirfour-yeartermsonCityCouncil, servinginDistrictsThreeandFour.ResidentslivinginDistricts ThreeandFourwillvotefortheirCouncilmembersin2026,when thecurrentCouncilmembers’termsconclude.

Theannualcampaigninvitesourcommunityto engagewiththeBuildingDivisiononacollaborative levelwiththisyear’sthemeof“MissionPossible.”

Themonth-longeducationalcampaign,which raisesawarenessabouttheimportanceofbuilding codesinestablishingandensuringthesafetyofthe builtenvironment,kicksoffonMay1,2024.This year’stheme—“MissionPossible”—encouragesthe communitytogetinvolvedinallaspectsofbuilding safety.Forthethirdyear,theBuildingDivisioniscelebratingbuildingsafetythroughaCityCouncil proclamation,educationalmaterialatCityHall’s frontcounter,andparticipationinthe“OffTheGrid” onMay15and29.

BuildingSafetyMonth2024willexplorehow buildingsafetyisamissionthatisonlypossiblewhen weworktogetherwithourlocalcommunitiesfor positivechange.Theweeklythemesforthisyear’s campaignare:

Intersection Safety Program update

Aprogramdesignedtoincreasesafety aroundPleasantHillSchoolsisinthefinal stages.The2023IntersectionandCrosswalk ImprovementsProjectstartedinthefallwith theawardingoftheconstructioncontractto GradeTech,Inc.inOctober2023.

ConstructionbeganinNovember,but installationwasdelayedatsomelocations duetolongdeliverytimesfromthemanufacturerofthestopsignsystems.Allstopsign systems,speedhumps,andstripingwere installedandoperationalinMarch2024.Flashingbeaconswerescheduledtobeinstalled abovethenewstopsignsbytheendofApril. Thenewimprovementswillbenefitthe entirecommunitybyprovidingyear-round safetyforpedestriansandbicycliststhrough theinstallationofcurbramps,additionalsignage,newhigh-visibilitycrosswalks,flashing beaconsystems,LEDflashingstopsigns,and speedhumps.

ThePedestrianSafetyProjectisn’tjustaboutpaintedlinesandnewsigns—it’s atestamenttothepowerofunityandcollectiveactiontoprovideincreased safetyfortheentirePleasantHillcommunityandsaferoutdooradventuresnear theschools.Theladdercrosswalks,illuminatedstopsigns,andtrafficcalming measureswillbeineffect24hoursaday,yearround.Thiswillallowforsafereveningwalks,summertripstotheparksnexttoschools,andduringschoolhours fortransitionswithstudentsandmulti-generationalfamiliesalike.

TheCivicActionCommissionisalreadyat workplanningforthisyear’s 20th AnnualCommunityServiceDay. Thisyear’seventwilltake placeonSaturday,September21,2024.Partof theprocessofgettingreadyforthisamazing communityeventisinorganizingprojectsforthe volunteerstoundertake.

New CERT graduates, New CERT course!

Congratulationstothefirstgraduatingclassof 2024!TwelvePleasantHillresidentscompletedthe CERTcourseinFebruary.Theylearnedtoprepare theirfamiliesandhomestobetterwithstandearthquakes,flooding,windstorms,andfires.Their trainingcontinueswithotherCERTmembersduringareameetingsandexercisesasCERT volunteersremainreadytoassisttheirneighborhoodswhendisasterstrikes.
