CELEBRATINGJUNETEENTH: Honoringfreedomandcommunity

TheCityofPleasantHill’sDiversityCommissionwillhostits3rd annualJuneteenthCelebrationonThursday,June19,2025,from 5:00p.m.to9:00p.m.atthelakeatCityHall(100GregoryLane), bringingthecommunitytogetherforadayoflearning,music, food,andfun.Thiseventwillbeincollaborationwith Off-the-Grid,showcasingfoodtruckselectionsthatcelebrate theculinaryflavorsoftheBlackandAfricanculture.

Juneteenth,observedonJune19th,markstheanniversaryof thedayin1865whenUniontroopsarrivedinGalveston,Texas,to announcetheendofslavery—morethantwoyearsafterthe EmancipationProclamation.Thishistoricmomentisareminder oftheresilience,perseverance,andcontributionsofBlackAmericansthroughouthistory.

Today,Juneteenthisatimeofreflection,education,andcelebration.Itisanopportunitytorecognizetheongoingjourney towardjusticeandequality,whilehonoringthecontributionsof Blackcommunitiesacrossthecountry.

TheJuneteenthcelebrationwillincludeengagingperformances,guestspeakers,andactivitiesthatcelebrateAfrican Americanheritageandhistory.TheJointChiefsBand,aversatile andexcitingdancebandontheNorthernCaliforniamusicscene, willperformaliveconcertfrom7:00p.m.to9:00p.m.

2024 PHPD Officer of the Year: Brett Botelho

ThePleasantHillPolice Departmentishonoredto announcethatthe2024OfficeroftheYearisDetective BrettBotelho.A9-yearveteranofthedepartment,Brett joinedthePHPDInvestigations Bureauinearly2024and quicklyestablishedhimselfas aninvaluablememberofthe unit.

WhenDetectiveBotelho tookonhisfull-timeinvestigativerole,hewasentrusted withworkingonseveralmajor cases,includingtwohigh-profilehomicideinvestigations,completingnumeroushoursofinvestigativeworkonboth homicidecasesthatdirectlyledtotheidentificationofseveral suspects.Heauthored42searchwarrantsforthesetwoinvestigations,ultimatelyresultingintherecoveryoffourgunsand numerouspiecesofvaluableevidence.

Throughout2024,DetectiveBotelhoauthoredapproximately70searchwarrantsandassistedinexecutingaround150 totalwarrants,inadditiontoreviewingandanalyzingover2½ millionelectronicdatarecords.Hisproactiveapproachand attentiontodetailresultedinover30arrests,includingseveral madeduringInternetCrimesAgainstChildren(ICAC)andTheft Suppressionoperations.Histhoroughinvestigationsanddiligentcasemanagementhavefacilitatedthesuccessful submissionofnumerouscasestotheDistrictAttorney’sOffice, resultinginfelonychargesagainstmultiplesuspects.

TheannualOfficeroftheYearawardservestohonorthose whohavegoneaboveandbeyondintheirservicetothePleasantHillcommunity.DetectiveBotelho’sswiftacclimationtohis investigativeresponsibilitiesexemplifieshisstrongworkethic andcommitmenttojustice.Weappreciateandcelebratehis dedication,professionalism,andunwaveringservicetotheCity ofPleasantHill.

ThesurveyclosesonMay2,2024,so pleasescantheQRcodetotakethesurvey.

TheCityintendstoadopttheCAPby2026 andwillincludetargetsthatreflectthoseset bySenateBill32(SB32)toreduceGHGemissionsby40percentbelowthe1990levelsby 2030andAssemblyBill1279(AB1279)that requiresachievingcarbonneutralityby2045.

Withgreatpleasurethe PleasantHillPoliceDepartmentannouncesDispatcherII AmandaCarrollastherecipient ofthe2024ProfessionalStaff MemberoftheYearAward. Thisawardisgivenannuallyto recognizeexceptionalcontributionsmadebyprofessional staffpersonnelatPleasantHill PD.

DispatcherCarrollconsistentlydemonstratesalevelof professionalismanddedication.Heraptitudeinmanaging hercall-takingduties,maintainingclearandeffectiveradiocommunications,anddiligentlyhandlingpaperworkandvarious administrativetaskswithaccuracyandtimelinessisexemplary, asisherabilitytorespondquicklytoofficersinthefield,while payingcloseattentiontoofficersafetyconcerns.

Duringanarsonincidentin2024,DispatcherCarrollhandled multiplecalls,dispatchedquickly,maintainedeffectiveradio communications,andcoordinatedassistancebyConfire.FollowingthelossofDeputyTobinBolter,aformerPHPDofficer killedinthelineofdutyinIdahoinApril2024,Amandaplayeda majorroleinthedepartment’sresponsetothetragedy.She assistedinorganizingandplanningthedepartment’stripto IdahotohonorTobinandattendhisfuneral.Amanda’scommitmentandstrengthhelpedmanyinthedepartmentgetthrough thisdifficulttime.

DispatcherCarroll’sthoroughnessplaysacriticalrolein maintainingthedepartment’shighstandards,asdoherefforts tofosterapositiveworkenvironment.Sheholdsherselfand othersaccountable,andsheisacooperativeandsupportivecolleague.TheseeffortsbyDispatcherCarrollhavemadealasting impactonthePleasantHillPoliceDepartmentandthePleasant Hillcommunity.
