Thousands come out to Light Up the Night! It was a beautiful winter evening in Pleasant Hill as people from throughout the Bay flocked to the annual Light Up the Night holiday festival. Around 3,000 people braved the intermittent rain and packed into Crescent Drive to enjoy the myriad of entertainment and activities provided by the City of Pleasant Hill and the Downtown Merchants. The Holiday Express Trains were a big hit again this year, with families lining up for a fun ride up and down Crescent. At either end of the street, stages were set up with a wide variety of performances. On the Main Stage singers and dancers kept the crowd moving, while on the Kids’ Stage families were treated to magic, storytelling and circus antics. Hundreds gathered for the Lighting of the Tree, with Mayor Tim Flaherty and Santa Claus ushering in the twinkling lights. City Commissions and area non-profits lined the street with booths, featuring crafts and activities for young visitors, while the Pleasant Hill Chamber had hot coffee for the grownups, and White Pony Express took in food donations as part of a City Food Drive. Free hot cocoa and cookies rounded out the experience. All in all, Light Up the Night was a wonderful start to the holiday season!s
