On May 26, 2020, Pope Francis approved a decree recognizing a miracle attributed to the intercession of Father McGivney and opening the way for his beatification. On Oct. 31, the Mass for Beatification was celebrated in the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Conn. An Apostolic Letter was read from Pope Francis that declared Father McGivney would now have the title of Blessed Michael McGivney. He is the third priest born in the United States to be raised to this honor, and the first priest to be beatified who spent his whole priestly ministry in a US parish.
The pope’s Apostolic Letter stated that Blessed Michael McGivney’s “zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel and generous concern for the needs of his brothers and sisters made him an outstanding witness of Christian solidarity and fraternal assistance.”
The Cause for Canonization for Father McGivney was opened in the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1997, when he was given the title Servant of God. On March 15, 2008, his heroic virtue was recognized by Pope Benedict XVI, and Father
McGivney was given the title Venerable Servant of God. This important step occurred after years of careful investigation of Father McGivney’s life, spirituality and

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.

Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Having been raised to the honors of the altar, Blessed Michael McGivney has an annual feast day of Aug. 13, the day between his birthday (in 1852) and the day he passed into eternal life (in 1890). His cause has now entered the final phase toward canonization or sainthood. One more confirmed miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney is needed for him to be declared saint.
All Knights and their families, as well as all those devoted to Father McGivney, are asked to pray for his intercession in their daily needs, especially in cases of serious illness, and to report any favors and healings to the Guild. You may submit your report at www.fathermcgivneyguild.org.

You can play a key role in advancing Father McGivney’s cause by joining the Guild for free and praying for his intercession and canonization. May Father McGivney intercede for you!

Almost the entire month of November falls during the liturgical season known as Tempus per Annum or Ordinary Time (formerly Time After Pentecost), which is represented by the liturgical color green. Green is a symbol of hope, as it is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. The liturgical color green is worn during the praying of Offices and celebration of Masses of Ordinary Time. The last portion of the liturgical year represents the time of our pilgrimage to heaven during which we hope for reward.
Hello Brother Knights of Northeast Ohio! I hope this finds all of you well. Now that the great summer we had is in a rearview mirror, And we’ve rounded the corner into autumn, this Fall promises to be just as busy as ever! I was blessed and fortunate to be invited to attend the District Duties meeting via Zoom last night. And, as always, the Cleveland Diocese is right next to the Columbus Diocese on leading our great State in growth through the 1st quarter of our Fraternal Year! A sincere Congratulations to all of the Grand Knights, Chancellors, and all of our members , in your outstanding efforts in bringing in new Brothers to our order!
Speaking of new Brothers, this past weekend the Youngstown Diocese welcomed 32 new Brother Sir Knights in the annual Youngstown Diocese Fourth Degree Exemplification held in Boardman, Oho. It was a very hectic, but amazing day to be a part of the ceremony, welcoming our new Brother Sir Knights, and their Families, into our order. Further, it was an Honor to Welcome our New Vice Supreme Master from Michigan, Sir Knight Walter
Winkle.
Why do I mention the Youngstown Diocese 4th Degree Exemplification?
That’s a great question, im Glad you’ve asked! In a way, it took some serious communication, more than likely multiple times, with the 3rd Degree candidates, as they prayerfully discerned on taking their last step in their Journey of Knighthood. You might say, it took consistent “Evangelization” with the 3rd degree candidates; from both the Faithful Navigators of their respective Assemblies, and the Grand Knights of their respective Councils. You see Brothers, Evangelization is not merely a 1 time conversation. It is a consistent commitment of exploring, growing, and sharing our Faith. This is the Foundation of strong Christian Brotherhood. In the September Edition of the COLUMBIA magazine, Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly wrote, “We give men the chance to live a life of courage, to be a part of something greater than themselves -and to do that while connecting with likeminded Men”. As we all know Brothers, the best way we can do this is promoting and Starting COR groups in
our Councils. As of this writing, the Cleveland Diocese has 11 Councils currently having COR meetings, with our Brothers in the Medina Council soon to start their own. We are showing tremendous growth, and that is part thanks to our Amazing District Deputies, Grand Knights and Council E.F.F.’s directors, for their hard work and dedication.
A side note – We receive a monthly report from Supreme, and it appears that a few Councils may not have registered their E.F.F. Directors for our new fraternal Year. I kindly ask that all Grand Knights ensure that their E.F.F. directors have either registered or re-registered, so that your Councils are receiving the latest updates, training, and resources that the COR landing page has to offer. The link to register your Council E.F.F. Director is https://info.kofc.org/EFFOnboarding-LP.html. If any Council has any questions regarding anything about COR, or assistance in registering a new E.F.F. director, please feel free to contact Ty at kofccleveeff@gmail.com.

The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory whose feast is celebrated on November 2.

The coolness in the air is starting to creep into the early morning. And the smell of turkey is in the distance. Yes, November has arrived and the Knights of Columbus are ready to ramp up for the holidays.
On Saturday, November 8th, we will be distributing to the councils our Annual Coats for Kids drive. We have broken the diocese into three delivery areas:
1. 12PM to 2PM: Father Ragan Hall, Avon
2. 1PM to 2PM: Mount Carmel, Wickliffe
3. 4PM to 5PM: St. Hilary, Fairlawn
Thank you to all the councils for participating this year.
Many councils are hosting a memorial mass this month to honor those brothers that have been called home. If your council is hosting a mass, please feel free to join the Chapter on Friday, November 14. More info is available later in this newsletter.
Overall, the Cleveland Diocese’s membership continues to grow. We are still leading the state at this time but Columbus and Steubenville are right there and Cincinnati is not too far behind. Please make sure that you register your Exemplifications on the state website. Your District Deputy can help you with that. Also, your DD is responsible for recording the Exemplification on the Form 450. So, if your council is having an Exemp live or video please let your DD know so he can track the results and record it for the state.
Thank you to the Brothers that turned out for the Columbus Day Parade and OD1 Exemplification this past month. There are some pictures later on in this issue for you to see.

Thank you for all that have completed their forms including the 185, 365, and 1295. If you have not done any or some of those, they are PAST DUE to Supreme. Please file at your earliest opportunity. If you need help, contact your DD or myself and we will assist.
As State Secretary, it is my responsibility to receive payment for state per capita and to ensure payments are sent out in a timely fashion. I am glad to say that Cleveland only has a couple of councils left to pay their state per capita. Thank you very much. Also, all payments from the State Convention Mileage and Per Diem and Super Cash Bonanza Rebates have been sent out to the Financial Secretaries. It has been challenging here in the first couple of months to get everything done. In the last three months alone, I have written over a 1200 checks. It has been fun, and now I am ready for Football. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
We are looking to offer our Chancellors the opportunity to be trained to be liaisons with the field agents. Back at our September meeting with the Benefits Team, we recognize that the
Chancellor is someone that is key in the Admissions Process and would benefit from a better understanding of the fraternal benefits that are available. We are not asking them to sell anything but be someone that can talk to the prospective new member about some of the benefits available. Training will be coming out soon.
Finally, there are a couple of dates that you need to be planning.
• Friday, January 23, 2026: Clergy Appreciation Dinner
• Monday, January 26, 2026: Knight with the Cavaliers
• Saturday, February 14: Super Cash Ticket Distribution
• February 2026: Diocesan Free Thrown (TBD)
Kathy and I thank you and your families for all that you do for our parishes and communities. We hope and pray that you all have a Blessed Thanksgiving and beginning of the Advent Season.
God Bless, Jim
Mea culpa. Last month due to publishing deadline, I made an assumption the State did NOT make our 1st Quarter Supreme goal. In fact I was wrong and we did in fact achieve our goal and as always, Cleveland led the way.
Currently we have several Membership incentives;
Go for Two: Knights who recruit two men between September 1st and December 31st will be entered into a drawing to receive a cash prize of $1500. 10 second-place winners will receive a customized, Knights of Columbus-branded football.
Let's End the Goose Egg: Councils which have shown “zero growth” for this Fraternal Year are eligible to receive $10.00 for each new member you invite! This must occur within the Incentive timeframe. Up to the first 5 new members will be credited to you. Only the first six councils in each Diocese to invite and transfer will win, first come – first served! Some restrictions apply and ends December 31st.
– 11 Month Challenge: The first 100 completed Shining Armor Award cards turned into the State Growth Director, will have their pins paid
for by the State Council and they will be entered into a drawing to win $100. These pins will be purchased by the State and sent to the Grand Knight for presentation at the council. Anyone that sends in their completed Shining Armor Award cards after the first 100 will also be placed into a separate drawing to win $100. Program runs most of the year, beginning July 1, 2025 and ending on the Saturday of the Ohio State Convention, at which time the two drawings will be held.
As your Diocesan Growth Coordinator, I receive any State eForm-100 communication for review and adjudication. https:// fs22.formsite.com/ stambrose/gssmboyytb/ index. Although this has been provided as a service to the Councils; Supreme and State strongly recommends using Member Management for any Fraternal administration; it is quick, easy and accurate.
Coming Soon: "Brandon Chambers Church Drive" this is an updated Church Drive process which leverages our General and Field Agents as a key resource in your Council Growth activities. More information to come which will be sent out in a separate communication and socialized through your District Deputies.
Finally, Please contact your District Deputy and myself as soon as possible and we will reassign any eMember Prospect and they will no longer show up on your Council Prospect Tab in Member Management. Please do not reject the Prospect, I will reassign the Prospect to the State Holding Council. This will allow the Prospect to be reassigned and available to another Council's Prospect tab.
Unless there are extenuating circumstances, Councils please do not expend any further energy; If the Council has made a good faith effort in contacting the eMember Prospect, after 30 days please notify your District Deputy and myself and I will remove the eMember from your Council Prospect tab. I will be contacting Councils soon regarding their progress for those Councils who currently have Prospects. If you have any questions about eMembership, Prospect Tab, Church Drives or anything dealing with Member Management, please feel free in reaching out to me.
Fraternally yours, Teran Taggart Diocesan Growth Coordinator, DD#28 440-665-4078

Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Glory Be
Jesus is the Divine Physician who modeled how to care for the sick during his time on earth. Healthcare professionals share in Christ’s healing mission and are entrusted with the care and protection of human life in its most vulnerable circumstances. Their goal must always be the service and safeguarding of human life, and never its destruction. Yet in a time of scientific and technological developments, there are many instances in healthcare settings in which God’s design for the human person is violated, especially as patients approach the end of their earthly lives.

In 2020, the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith released the letter Samaritanus bonus, “on the care of persons in the critical and terminal phases of life.” The letter reaffirms the Church’s teaching on care for those who are critically ill or dying and offers additional pastoral guidance for increasingly complex situations at the end of life.
Despite our best efforts, it can sometimes be difficult to recognize the profound value of human life when we see its full weakness and fragility. Yet, the faithful care of human life until its natural end is entrusted to every person. Death is a decisive moment in our encounter with God, and the time preceding this encounter holds great significance.
To those who care for the sick, the scene of the Cross provides a way of understanding that even when it seems that there is nothing more to do there remains much to do, because “remaining” by the side of the sick is a sign of love and of the hope that it contains. Healed by Jesus, we become men and women called to proclaim his healing power and provide care for our neighbors, until the very end.
Reflection adapted from “The Witness of the Good Samaritan: Palliative Care and Hospice.”
Act (Choose One)
• Prayerfully reflect on the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10:29-37) and what the Lord reveals about caring for the sick through it.
• Sacrifice snacking today. Enjoy three small, simple meals but refrain from eating in between.
• Offer some other sacrifice or prayer that you feel called to do for this month’s intention.

The Chapter continues to be busy looking for opportunities to better serve you, our members, and the Diocese of Cleveland.
I want to introduce to you our Chapter Chaplain, Father John Mullee from St. Monica’s Parish. Father Mullee and I have known each other for a couple of years now back when he was at St. Michael’s and he is a Past Chapter Clergy of the Year. We thank Father Mullee for his time and service to the Knights of Columbus in the new capacity and look forward to seeing him soon.
Let me apologize for the cancellation of the Columbus Day Dinner. It is not an easy decision when you have to do something like. This dinner is a tradition that is long standing. However, when there is a lack of participation from our councils and their members, we have to make those calls. We will still announce the Chapter Knight of the Year and honor our Immediate Past Chapter President. We just need to determine when we are going to do that. It is our hope and prayers that we can have the dinner again next year with some updates. Save the date of Sunday, October 11, 2026 for now.
This coming month, the Chapter will be hosting our Annual Memorial Mass, presided by our Chaplain, Father Mullee, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 7PM
at St. Monica’s in Garfield Heights. We are assembling the list of brothers that were called home this past year. IF you have not already, ALL COUNCILS are welcome to join us and submit the names of our brothers. Please send them to me, Jim Maslach, at kofcjkm@gmail.com.

Please RSVP to Jim Maslach by Friday, December 4th with how many are attending and what you would like to bring to share. We look forward to share some time with you.
Last thing to keep on your list is our Annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner which is on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Center for Pastoral Leadership Founders Room. More details will be coming out soon. We will also be looking to honor the anniversaries of our priests, the seminarians, and one special clergy who will be named the Chapter Clergy of the Year. Nominations forms will be going out here soon. Keep your eyes open for an email with all the
The Chapter will start in January hosting an Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity before our meeting. The candidate call is 6:15 PM with the Exemplification starting at 6:30 PM. We will then move into the Rosary and Meeting. Please let Jim know if you are bringing any candidates. You will need to bring your own rosaries and pins at this time.
Lastly, we finalized the “Knight with the Cavaliers” for Monday, January 26, 2026, as the Cavs will tangle with the Orlando Magic. A flyer and ticket order form will be coming out this month.
The Chapter is busy and looking forward to an exciting time for the remainder of the 2025-2026 fraternal year. If you have any questions or comments, please share them with me or any of our officers. We are here to help promote all the good works that YOU are doing.
