AUGUST 2025

For more than a century, Father McGivney’s legacy has been lived out in the hearts, minds and helping hands of his Knights of Columbus. Where there is a need, there is a Knight.
Numbers do not tell the whole story of Father McGivney’s ongoing inspiration of the Order he founded, but they do provide an important perspective.
Today, there are more than 2 million members of the Knights of Columbus in more than 16,000 local councils located in more than a dozen countries around the world. In 2019, these Knights together donated $187 million to charity and provided 77 million hours of volunteer work. Over the past decade, the Order has donated more than $1.6 billion to worthy causes.
In addition, the insurance program that Father McGivney began in 1882 to support families when a member died has grown from the simple seeds he sowed. Today, the Knights of Columbus is a modern Fortune 1000 company that has more than $119 billion in financial protection in force for Knights and their families. Death benefits to survivors and regular dividends to policyholders translate each year to thousands of mortgages
kept, college tuitions paid, retirements secured, and futures assured and every dollar of assets is invested according to Catholic moral principles.
The legacy of Father McGivney is also found in the countless smiles of children receiving winter coats; bags of food delivered to families in need; extra gifts beneath Christmas trees; homes built by sweat equity with Habitat for Humanity; unborn lives saved through the Ultrasound Initiative; and millions of prayers offered every day by Knights and their families for peace, healing and reconciliation.
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.
Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen
The heart and soul of the Order are found in the local councils, where ordinary men work together to perform extraordinary deeds for church and community, according to the Faith in Action model.
With an Order based on charity, unity and fraternity, Father McGivney unleashed the grace of good works for generations, and today’s Knights carry on his legacy of building a better world for all.
You can play a key role in advancing Father McGivney’s cause by joining the Guild for free and praying for his intercession and canonization. May Father McGivney intercede for you!
The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild serves as a source for information about the life, works and spirituality of Father McGivney. The Guild publishes a quarterly newsletter and offers a weekly Mass for the intentions of members.

The entire month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arousesin the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. It is used in the offices and Masses of Ordinary Time.
Hello Brother in Christ! This is Ty Tyjewski, your Cleveland Diocesan COR Director.
As our new Fraternal year marches on, more and more Councils are starting Cor groups! I had the pleasure of attending the first COR meeting at Council# 14111 in Norton this past Saturday morning! We discussed the Gospel of Mathew, and had some great open discussion and participation from all that attended. The next thing we know, almost an hour and half went by! A big thank you to Grand Knight Craig and Deputy Grand knight Bob for the invitation! (and hopefully G.K. Craig’s little ones didn’t run him over looking for the left-over doughnut holes!)
Speaking of a COR meeting, below is an example from the Supreme website, www.kofc.orf/COR, on how to structure and run a meeting:
“This general structure is meant to provide a simple framework for the leadership to fill with appropriate content according to what is previously planned and shared with the pastor/ chaplain. Each gathering must have a designated leader to manage the content flow and timing.
Set Up: Considering hospitality, if any materials or books are needed for prayer, formation, or fraternity, either provide them or communicate in advance. Ensure that the space is set up to match your predetermined content.
Welcome & Opening
Prayer: Open with a prayer, even if starting with food and social fraternal time. Clergy should be asked to lead the prayer, if present. The opening prayer alone does not satisfy the required “prayer” element.
Introduce Theme or Focus: Make any needed introductions or announcements such as the focus or theme. Use this as an opportunity to transition into the main content or focus for this specific gathering.
Cor Content – Prayer, Formation, Fraternity:
Begin the predetermined content structure, either emphasizing the key elements equally or with a specified emphasis.
Formation and fraternity usu-ally occur first, concluding. The examples provided above have the content arranged with formation and fraternity occurring first and ending with prayer.
Wrap up: Always end on time. This honors everyone’s time. Recap any action items, reminder for next Cor, and invite to any upcoming council and/or parish events.
Closing Prayer: Consider using a consistent prayer and asking for prayer intentions that allows for repetition and familiarity. The closing prayer alone does not satisfy the required “prayer” element.”
Again, all COR resources can be found on the Supreme website, www.kofc.org/COR, and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at tyknight4847@gmail.com, kofccleveeff@gmail.com, or (440) 867-4503.
Thank you Brothers and Vivat Jesus!
of Mary.
The Holy Father's Intentions for the Month of August 2025
For mutual coexistence: Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems more difficult might not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethnic, political, religious or ideological reasons.
With Mary Immaculate, let us adore, thank, implore and console the Most Beloved and Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Here we are brothers. We are already one month ito the new fraternal year and in true KofC fashion we are off and running.
July certainly was a busy month. Thank you to all of the brothers and councils that came to the State Tour Meeting in July at Holy Family in Stow. Thank you to Fr. Maruskin Council 10936 for hosting. Yes, the meeting went longer than expected and we do apologize for that. We hope you got the opportunity to meet with some of the state officers and staff that will make up State Deputy Mike Felerski’s administration. Let the fun and games begin!
Hopefully, you picked up your Football Crazr tickets at the tour meeting. If not, contact PSD Gary Eckstein and he can hook you up. This program serves so many needs across our communities and state. Where else can you have minimal upfront costs, no overhead, and can earn profit? These tickets help put funds into your accounts for your operational and charitable needs but also help support the state council on statewide programs and events.
As State Secretary, I am responsible for collecting State Per Capita. State Per Capita invoices were sent out via email back in early July via the state communication system to the financial secretaries. If you paid already, thank you very much. If not or you did not receive the invoice for some reason, please contact me, Jim Maslach, and I will forward to you. Emailing allows us to save on our expenses by reducing USPS expenses. We all know how stamps keep going up and up. Just mailing out the per capita would cost the state $10k. Those funds can be used to help support so many groups and events. Per Capita is due by August 31. In September, invoices will be sent out both via USPS and email.
I am writing this article and putting together the newsletter as Kathy and I head to Washington, DC, for the Supreme Convention. We made a stop along the way to Flight 93 Memorial here in Pennsylvania. I never really understood when my parents discussed where they were when President Kennedy was shot. I recall President Reagan being shot and the events of September 11, 2001. Reading the timelines, seeing the faces of those involved, and the scope of the entire day put things into a different perspective. Maybe it is just because I am getting older. I certainly do not think so, but it does help me to appreciate what we have to share.
The Supreme Convention is this coming week, August 5-7 in Washington DC. This is a great opportunity to see how the Knights of Columbus, on a global level, continue to spread our faith and charitable outreach to so many in need. Watch the highlights on EWTN, YouTube, and Salt and Light. You might even catch a glimpse of the Ohio delegation!
August is also a time that we ask our District Deputies to get together with their councils. If your council would like some training or have questions or
concerns, please reach out to your DD to schedule some time. Anyone from the Diocesan Team would be more than willing to come and talk with you and help wherever we are needed. Our goal is help you reach Star Council.
Also, please schedule your Installation of Officers. I know, it is a ceremony that may or may not be completely necessary. It recognizes those members that have taken the plunge to help lead our councils. That is no easy task and supporting them and giving them the respect they deserve is a wonderful thing. Schedule your installation with your DD and if they are not available, I would be more than honored to visit your council and install your officers.
Your council should be working on finalizing your annual event plans and setting your budgets. Planning and budgeting go a long way to help councils operate and stay focused on the task at hand.
Finally, the feast day of Blessed Michael McGivney is August 13th. It is celebrated annually by the Catholic Church to honor the founder of the Knights of Columbus. The date was chosen because it falls between his birthday (August 12, 1852) and the date of his death (August 14, 1890). Consider celebrating together as a council with a cookout or family gathering.
Well, will be hitting the road to finish the trek to Washington DC. Kathy and I continue to pray for you, your councils, and our Order so that we can share our principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism to all our Catholic families.
Vivat Jesus, Jim
Worthy District Deputy, Grand Knight, Financial Secretary, Council Membership Director and Fraternal Leader,
Great month for the diocese. As of last weekend we brought into our Councils twelve (12) new members. With that said, we still show thirtyeight (38) men still assigned to Councils on their Prospect tab awaiting council conversion. Over half of these men have been assigned almost 40 days ago. I ask Councils to try to contact these prospects and encourage them to join your Council and if not a good fit, please notify me and your District Deputy.
Reminder, as in past years, for every ten (10) eMembers that sign up, Supreme will reduce the State growth goal by one. Last Fraternal year, due to the number of eMembers who signed up, Ohio Supreme goal was reduced to about 1800. eMembership is heavily favored by Supreme and
is preferred when signing up new members.
Finally, I want to thank those who attended the July State Tour and remind everyone of the current prizes that Councils could earn if they hit their Growth Goals early.
The Council Membership Director in each Diocese with the highest percentage Growth for the period July 1.2025 to August 31, 2025, will receive either:
A Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Carbon Life Tech Bait cast reel or a Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Platinum Signature Spinning Reel.
eMembership Fast Start Challenge – Q1
The Council in each diocese who recruits AND TRANSFERS the most eMembers in the period July 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, will receive a $100 gift card.
Shining Armor Award – 11 Month Challenge
The first 100 completed Shining Armor Award cards turned into the State Growth Director, will have their pins paid for by the State Council and they will be entered into a drawing to win $100. These pins will be purchased by the State and sent to the Grand Knight for presentation at the council. Anyone that sends in their completed Shining Armor Award cards after the first 100 will also be placed into a separate drawing to win $100. Program runs most of the year, beginning July 1, 2025 and ending on the Saturday of the Ohio State Convention, at which time the two drawings will be held.
If you have any questions about eMembership, Prospect Tab, Church Drives or anything dealing with Member Management, please feel free in reaching out to me.
Fraternally yours, Teran Taggart Diocesan Growth Coordinator, DD#28 440-665-4078

Will you have enough income in retirement?
The last thing any of us wants to worry about is running out of money to cover our needs, especially in our golden years.
An annuity from the Knights of Columbus can help give you peace of mind with a guaranteed income stream.
How does it work?
Simply put, an annuity is a retirement savings product. You make contributions, and, after a specified amount of time, the annuity pays you regular income.
Unlike other ways you may be saving for retirement, annuities remain stable during volatile market conditions. In fact, each Knights of Columbus
annuity comes with a guaranteed minimum interest rate. No matter the market fluctuations, your annuity is guaranteed to never earn less than the contractually stated amount, on an annual basis.
As you prepare for retirement, you can also consider the tax advantages, income flexibility, and estate planning benefits that permanent life insurance offers. It’s a potentially valuable, and often underutilized, tool for families when it comes to preparing for retirement.
You’re hopefully maximizing your contributions to savings plans like a 401(k) at work or Individual Retirement Account (IRA). What about other
investment options that take your targeted retirement date and risk threshold into account? Knights of Columbus Asset Advisors, a wholly owned subsidiary of Knights of Columbus, has resources to help you understand your options. If you need assistance, I’m happy to connect you with a registered advisor.
Let’s look at your finances together to see what plans you already have in place, and what gaps you may have to ensure you don’t run out of income in retirement. Safeguard your future today set up time to meet with me in the coming weeks!
Thank you!
We are seeking financial professionals to serve as insurance agents and investment advisory representatives (IAR).
Working with the Knights of Columbus as a financial professional is unlike any other career opportunity you’ll come across. We are a not-for-profit charitable membership organization that helps provide financial security to its members and their families through its insurance programs and investments while also engaging in charitable works.
Each Knights of Columbus financial professional is assigned to a territory of Knights of Columbus families. Our agents and advisors offer meaningful insurance and financial solutions to our Catholic members and their families and join our members in building our church and serving our communities.

Our Father, 3 Hail Mary's, and Glory Be.
The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the Blessed Mother’s entrance into heavenly glory. Mary’s Assumption into heaven reminds us that life on earth is a pilgrimage to our ultimate destination. We prepare in hope for our own passage into eternal life by the choices we make today. When we choose to love and follow God in our daily lives, we strengthen our relationship with Him, and this relationship is the true meaning of heaven: “To live in heaven is ‘to be with Christ’” (CCC, 1025).
We can see how, throughout her life, the Blessed Mother continually chose to go deeper into her relationship with God. She modeled how to value and respect His precious gift of human life, from the moment of conception to its natural end. In the Annunciation, through her “yes,” Mary witnessed to the undeniable humanity of pre-born children as she conceived and carried the Christ child in her womb. After the Annunciation, having learned that her cousin Elizabeth was with child, she went in haste to her aid.
Our Blessed Mother shows us how the way we live today can prepare us, in hope, to also enter into heavenly glory at the end of our lives. Are we open to God’s precious gift of new life? How do we support pregnant mothers and parents? Do we prioritize showing our love to those who are ill or aging? Do we care for them in a way that respects God’s gift of life?
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Act (Choose One)
Read and meditate on the Mass readings for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Reflect on how the Blessed Mother consistently exemplified how to welcome and cherish God’s gift of human life. Choose one night to sleep without your pillow or on the floor. Consider how Mary welcomed the Christ-child in humble surroundings and pray for mothers who welcome their children amidst poverty and difficult circumstances today. Offer some other sacrifice or prayer that you feel called to do for this month's intention.
One Step Further
Read the short reflection, “Called to Serve Moms in Need,” and reflect on how the Blessed Mother shows us how to support mothers and their children.

June 23, 2025 – St. Augustine, Florida
The historic and sacred city of St. Augustine proudly hosted the 2025 International Knights on Bikes (KonB) Bi-Annual Rally. This momentous event brought together Knights of Columbus members from across the United States and Canada many riding their motorcycles all the way to Florida for a week filled with faith, fraternity, and spiritual renewal. The rally welcomed 110 Knights, 48 wives whom KonB reverently recognize as Lady Knights and four young participants under the age of 18. This turnout of over 160 attendees reflected the growing unity and devotion among Catholic riders who evangelize and serve the Lord on two and three wheels.
Among the many blessings of the week was the presence of the Most Reverend Archbishop Thomas Wenski of the Archdiocese of Miami, who celebrated Mass throughout the rally. Two priests, Fr. Murchadh O’Madagain of St. Vincent de Paul Parish (Diocese of Venice) and Fr. Kenneth Bolín of St. John Fisher Parish (Diocese of Orlando), rode in with the group and offered daily Masses. Deacon Lawrence Martin Paczkowski also traveled from Michigan to participate in the rally.
The week began with Monday’s Ceremony for the Fallen, honoring KonB brothers who have gone home to the Lord since our last rally. As each name was called by their respective state president, the thunder of motorcycle pipes roared in tribute a
deeply moving and unforgettable moment.
On Tuesday, the Pilgrimage Ride led groups of 25–30 bikes across five churches. Guided by our Road Captains, Blockers, and Gunners, each group prayed a decade of the Rosary at each stop. The ride concluded at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, where Mass was celebrated, followed by a powerful talk on the Florida Martyrs.
Wednesday featured the International Business Meeting, during which it was voted that the 2027 Rally will be
hosted in the great state of Michigan. The meeting was followed by a policeescorted ride up scenic A1A, offering breathtaking coastal views and the iconic stretch known as “The Loop.” Riders stopped for lunch at Destination Daytona and then attended Mass at the peaceful St. Joseph Carmelite Monastery. That evening’s Gala Dinner, themed Havana Night, featured a vibrant buffet, prize raffles, heartfelt speeches, and stories from the road shared by brothers and sisters in Christ.
Thursday morning, Archbishop Wenski again celebrated Mass. As World Wide Chaplain of the Knights on Bikes, his presence brought deep grace and reverence to the week, after which the rally was declared closed.
For more information on Knights on Bikes here in Ohio, contact John Giglio from Council 3541 at skydrol64@gmail.com.
