WHAT CAN YOU DO

The Cause for Canonization of Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney is at a favorable stage at the Vatican and you can help him on his way to sainthood. Since he was declared a Venerable Servant of God in March 2008, and a miracle through his intercession has opened the way to beatification, we are near the final phase of the process. One more miracle is needed for him to be eligible for sainthood.

The long and complex process is explained in more detail on another page. But your part is simple and direct, and can be summed up in three words: Pray. Report. Join.

PRAY. Your prayers can take two forms: to and for. Pray to Father McGivney that he may intercede for you and others in times of need, especially in cases of serious illness. Pray for Father McGivney’s cause, that it may continue to move forward with favorable reports.

these prayers, but anyone who is devoted to Father McGivney can and should pray for his intercession and canonization.

Remember that prayers to and for Father McGivney are really prayers asking God to act through and on behalf of the Blessed Servant of God.

REPORT After asking Father

most likely to be judged miraculous under strict Vatican guidelines. It is easy to report favors through a form on Father McGivney Guild website.

JOIN Step 3 is to join the Father McGivney Guild. Membership is free and you receive many benefits, including a quarterly newsletter with spiritual insights and updates on the cause, and a weekly Mass offered for the intentions of all Guild members. Take a moment now to access the online enrollment form.

A Call to Holiness

Most importantly, the cause of Father McGivney is not simply about him being declared a saint. It is an opportunity for each one of us to seek his intercession and draw closer to God.

You may join members of the Guild throughout the world in reciting the official Prayer for Canonization, or you can pray in your own words.

Knights of Columbus councils and families especially should engage in

McGivney to intercede for a particular intention, it is important to report any favors received – to let the Guild know if the prayer has been answered. You are encouraged to report any and every favor, big or small, so we can appreciate better the spiritual activity of the Blessed Servant of God. Medical and physical healings are especially important to report since they are

PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF BLESSED MICHAEL MCGIVNEY

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.

Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen

As the Second Vatican Council made clear with its universal call to holiness, we are all called to be saints. Father McGivney’s cause, in particular, is a summons to laypeople to embrace the mystery of Christ in its fullness so each of us will see that we are called to heroic virtue. Through the prayers and example of Father McGivney, we can come closer to loving God with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves.

You can play a key role in advancing

Father McGivney’s cause by joining the Guild for free and praying for his intercession and canonization. May Father McGivney intercede for you!

EVANGLEIZATION & FAITH FORMATION

The first 24 days of December fall during the liturgical season known as of Advent and are represented by the liturgical color purple a symbol of penance, mortification and the sorrow of a contrite heart.

The remaining days of December mark the beginning of the Christmas season. The liturgical color changes to white or gold a symbol of joy, purity and innocence.

What

A Great Time to Evangelize!

December is upon us. And as some of have already seen the years’ first snowfall, while some others are still barbequing and smoking on your patio’s … (not that im jealous or anything!). This month I’d like to touch on what a great time December is to Evangelize …. but first, some “housekeeping” items.

If you have not already done so, please make sure your Council’s EFF Director has registered. This ensures that your Councils EFF Director receives updates and communications from Supreme regarding Training, content and more. If you are an EFF Director for your Council, and have not registered yet, please go to Info.kofc.org/EFFonboarding-LP to register.

All registered EFF Directors for our Diocese have received an email from me. The purpose of this is this email so that all of us can stay connected, ask questions, make suggestions, share what’s worked; (and, what hasn’t!) with each other. Think of it as an open forum to discuss anything and everything COR! If you, or anyone you know, are interested in starting a COR group with your Council, please contact me at any time at kofcclevelandeff@gmail.com, . Also, you can visit

www.kofc.org/COR for more information.

A HUGE congratulations to EFF Director Mike McNulty and our Brothers from the Fr. Maruskin Council #10936 at Holy Family Parish in Stow. They had their first COR meeting on Nov. 20th, with 31 men in attendance! What an amazing gathering! The meeting then focused and concluded, with group prayer. They are meeting twice month on Thursday evenings, with other prayer content on specific Saturday Mornings. If you are interested in attending, please go to https:// www.holyfamilystow.org/ kofcStow for more information.

Now, on to the proverbial “Christmas Turkey and Potatoes.”

The oxford Dictionary defines Evangelization as the “conversion of someone to Christianity”. the Biblical definition of Evangelization is to “bring the good tidings and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ”. Brother Knights, Jesus was the first, and true, Evangelizer. Jesus said, “Those who have seen me, have seen the Father; those who have heard my voice, have heard the voice of the Father; and Those who believe in me will have ever -lasting Life”. Now some might say “Brother Ty, we know that part. But how can WE evangelize?” I’m going to answer that question with a question. What’s the first thing that Jesus

did, even before He made His ministry public? He went out into the public and introduced himself to Men. He called Brothers unto Himself, and He shared the promise of Eternal Life. That’s all evangelization is Brothers, sharing our Faith with other Men.

Now I can almost hear some of you out there asking, what we can do to share our faith?” We do the same thing that Jesus did. We go out and introduce ourselves to men. We sit, talk, and listen to them. And we invite them to join us. This is the very foundation of COR; forming authentic, genuine relationships and brotherhood.

December is the perfect time to evangelize. Why? We all know that The Advent and Christmas Season is some of the busiest times of the Calendar year; Parish functions, community events, gatherings with family and friends, some of whom we don’t see very often. What better time to Open the proverbial door and welcome a new Brother into a more fulfilling relationship with our Savior, and with Us. This is what COR is all about. In much the same way as Jesus did, we have the opportunity to go out and meet men “where they’re at” and invite them to join.

That’s all for now Brothers. I want to wish you and your families a safe, Blessed, and Joyous Advent, Christmas and New Years season, Vivat Jesus!

The month of December is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.

The Holy Father's Intentions for the Month of December 2025

For Christians in areas of conflict. Let us pray that Christians living in areas of war or conflict, especially in the Middle East, might be seeds of peace, reconciliation and hope.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.

STATE OFFICER REPORT

Happy New Year!

I remember teaching PSR and Children’s Liturgy of the Word at St. Ambrose a number of years ago and coming in and saying that. The kids all confused just looked at me like I was crazy. However, starting on Sunday, November 30th, we are in the Advent Season and the new liturgical year for the church. So, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Knights of Columbus in the Cleveland Diocese were truly out in force. Starting the month with our Coats for Kids campaign. We unloaded over 400-cases in Avon, loaded a U-Haul truck and delivered cases to Wickliffe, Fairlawn, and Canfield. A total of 375-miles and 15hour day. It was worthy it to ensure that the kids in Northeast Ohio had warm coats this winter. Thank you to all the councils that came out and helped and participated in the state program. We will see what next year brings, but for now, it was a great showing.

Many councils held a memorial Mass or prayer service for the brothers that

were called home to the Lord in the last year. We have lost a lot of great members that now can be our advocates in heaven. We will never forget the joy and presence they were here on earth. Thank you for all that you did for us here. Rest in peace.

A number of councils are helping to get ting people ready for the harsh winter with clothes and food drives. Specifically, councils help cook, deliver, and serve so many of our brothers and sisters here in the Cleveland area. Your service is greatly appreciated.

Do you know where your council stands in growth, administration, and programs? As a diocese, Cleveland is in second place with 125 new members or 35.77%. We led for most of the year till recently. Columbus has jumped up and leads by 0.76% or 1-new member. We should be around 40% which puts about 3-4 new members behind but we are ahead of last year at this time by +2 members. Keep up the good job recruiting. Schedule your Exemplifications of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity on the state website. If you need any assistance, let me know.

To all the FSs out there, Supreme passed a resolution at the Supreme Convention last August opening the door for the removal of the semiannual audit and replacing it with just an annual audit that will be due in August. So, if you have not completed your audit that was due August 15, do it now and you are done till 2026.

Programs and activities are the life of our councils. They can lead directly to more new members than a church drive. 76% of active councils in the diocese are/have participated in the state general program. I understand that we have councils that are doing great things out there, but do not want

any recognition. It is through you reporting programs that state and Supreme programs develop. For example, Supreme programs like RSVP, ASAP, Wheelchair, and even the Ultrasound Imitative, got there start at the local council level. State programs like Measure Up, Matching Funds, and Support Our Seminarians gained recognition at the state convention as key council programs. So, no matter how large or small the program is, you can spark someone else and create a state or Supreme program. Please take the time to report what you are doing.

31 councils are OYP Safe Environment compliant. If you are looking for Star Council, you MUST complete the Form 365 and the Safe Environment Training/Background Check. If you need help getting into the system, ask your DD or contact a member of the diocesan staff.

We are far behind in the Fraternal Benefit Events. Granted, the data from Supreme has not been updated since November 7th, but that showed 2 councils have met their requirements. Please reach out to your Field Agent to set up a FBE for your parish. If there is no Field Agent available, contact me and I will find one for you to work with.

Overall, there are 41-councils that are tracking toward Star Council with another 26 close behind. We are here to help you make it to Star.

Kathy and I want to wish you and your families a very Blessed Advent and Christmas Season.

Vivat Jesus,

Jim

Worthy District Deputy, Grand Knight, Financial Secretary, Council Membership Director and Fraternal Leader, Congratulations on a great month of November. Growth in the Diocese is up compared to last year and trending higher. Please continue to invite men to learn about the Knights and encourage them to sign up; First year is still free via BLESSEDMCGIVNEY code.

Currently there are several active Membership incentives;

Go for Two: Knights who recruit two men between September 1st and December 31st will be entered into a drawing to receive a cash prize of $1500. 10 second-place winners will receive a customized, Knights of Columbus-branded football.

Let's End the Goose Egg: Councils which have shown “zero growth” for this Fraternal Year are eligible to receive $10.00 for each new member you invite! This must occur within the Incentive timeframe. Up to the first 5 new members will be credited to you. Only the first six councils in each Diocese to invite and transfer will win, first come – first served! Some restrictions apply and

GROWTH REPORT

runs through December 31st

Shining Armor Award – 11 Month Challenge: The first 100 completed Shining Armor Award cards turned into the State Growth Director, will have their pins paid for by the State Council and they will be entered into a drawing to win $100. These pins will be purchased by the State and sent to the Grand Knight for presentation at the council. Anyone that sends in their completed Shining Armor Award cards after the first 100 will also be placed into a separate drawing to win $100. Program runs most of the year and ends on the Saturday of the Ohio State Convention, at which time the two drawings will be held.

As your Diocesan Growth Coordinator, I receive any State eForm-100 communication for review and validation from state website. Reminder, any new or existing transfers requires the Signature of both incoming Council Financial Secretary and the Grand Knight. The Council should also inform their Field Agent of the new or transferring member.

Although this has been provided as a service to the Councils; Supreme and State strongly recommends using Member Management for

any Fraternal administration; it is quick, easy and accurate.

Unless there are extenuating circumstances, Councils, please do not expend any further energy on contacting eMember Prospects; If the Council has made a good faith effort in contacting the eMember Prospect, after 30 days, please notify your District Deputy and myself. I will move the eMember from your Council and they will no longer appear on your Council Prospect Tab on Officers Online. Please do not reject the Prospect, I will reassign the Prospect to the State Council. This will allow the Prospect to be reassigned and available to another Council's Prospect tab in the future.

I will be reaching out to the Councils who have active Prospects to find out the status of their recruitment at the beginning of December.

If you have any questions about eMembership, Prospect Tab, Church Drives or anything dealing with Member Management, please feel free in reaching out to me.

Fraternally yours, Teran Taggart Diocesan Growth Coordinator, DD#28 440-665-4078

INSURANCE & INVESTMENTS

A blessed Advent to you all.

As we anticipate the coming of Christ at Christmas, it’s undoubtedly a busy time of year for so many of us. There are meals to prepare, gatherings to attend and gifts to buy, but we know these are labors of love. We love our families and want this holy time of year to be special for them.

These moments we share with our families are precious, and they should cause us to reflect on what it is we cherish in our lives and strive to protect. What would life look like if the unexpected were to happen?

I invite you this season to consider protecting what matters most through the gift of life insurance.

The right life insurance coverage can mean financial security for your family. It can mean the ability for them to have income to help minimize the impact of an untimely death on their level of financial comfort. It can shield against debt or remaining mortgage payments, so your family is protected if you or your spouse dies unexpectedly.

Depending on your policy, it could also be the seeds of a growing financial legacy a foundation to give your loved ones so they can continue to build upon what you’ve worked for.

Simply put, life insurance is the gift of protection and stability for the most important people in our lives.

Let’s schedule time to connect before the end of the year so we can explore affordable options together that can help make a big difference for your peace of mind in 2026 and for years to come.

Thank you!

Jason

The Christmas Season is upon us.

Tom Donovan, DDC Cleveland

DISTRICT LEADERS

It is a time of preparation and joy for what is to come.

Hopefully all DDs, their families and councils had a Happy Thanksgiving and are well rested for all activities of the Christmas Season.

Don’t forget attending Council Christmas parties is a great way to connect with all the council members and it counts as a council visit. Or perhaps your District is holding a District wide Christmas Party. The more the merrier.

As our Church begins its new year we are called to examine the victories and challenges we experienced the past year and seek the graces needed to move closer to God in the coming year. So too it provide a great time for we , our District and councils to evaluate what’s going good this FY and what challenges we may face moving forward.

Are you councils growing as we envisioned? Have they hosted successful church drives at all parishes in their council? Do they have any growth drives planned for the coming months? Are you or the Field Agent going to be involved?

Are your councils doing more activities than last year? Are they inviting all in parishes to participate?

Are they utilizing new programs or just doing just what they did last year?

Are your councils working together Many councils worked together with the Coats for Kids campaign or our Diocesan Ultrasound Iniative or invited neighboring councils to their Advent Men’s retreats? Some other councils share aiding local homeless shelters and food pantries. We Are All Knights and should share our resources and results Both Small councils and large Many hands make light work in the kitchen.

You, as DD, have been entrusted by Supreme to ensure all your councils continue in Blessed Micheal McGivney’s mission. You, as DD, are there to share insights and direction

to make all your councils successful. Make sure they have the next 6 months of programs planned.

If you or any of your councils need assistance there is plenty of resources available and people who know how to use them. Ask.

We have a few important dates coming up:

• Jan 9-11 Midyear DD meeting in Columbus ( mandatory) All DDs should have received the invite last week. Please advise if you did not.

• Jan 23 Greater Cleveland Chapter Clergy Night at CPL.

• Jan 31 From 1728 (Report of Fraternal Activities)

Keep up the good works and continue to add all CUFs to the Schedule on the kofcohio.org.

Advent is here and it is time for the Chapter’s Annual Christmas Party. This year, it will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10806 Granger Rd (Garfield Council 4130). The you will have to register so we know how much food and beverages we will need to have. We are also asking for you to bring a dish to share side or dessert. Unfortunately, again this year, I will not be able to join you as I will be in Cincinnati for State Officer Meeting. I trust our Worthy Chapter Vice President, Tom Donovan, to handle anything that comes up.

We will be having a meeting on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Garfield 4130. This is ONE week later than normal due to the State Mid-Year Meeting where Tom Donovan and myself will be. Please adjust your calendars appropriately.

Our next major event is the 2026 Annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026, at the CPL in Wickliffe. The flyer is on the next page. The cost is $35 per person. The council is responsible for purchasing

the number of seats, excluding seminarians, that they would like to have. There is a maximum of seven (7) seats available at each table. If you are specifically requesting a seminarian, please fill that out on the form. If the council is inviting clergy to the event, the council should paid for them. The Chapter will pick up the seminarians, staff clergy, and honorary guests. Nominations for Clergy of the Year are also available. Please contact me if you would like to nominate someone.

The Chapter is continuing to look for opportunities. We will have some guest speakers in February and March 2026 showing some local events that we can get behind.

All the officers and our families would like to wish you and yours a Blessed Advent and Christmas Season. God Bless.

Winter EOWC 2025-2026

There are literally, hundreds of unsheltered souls in and around the Greater Akron area. Many of them are living in tents and doorways and parking garages and abandoned buildings. Without travelling overseas, they are genuinely, “… the least of these brothers and sisters…” that most of us will ever have the opportunity to interact with and offer comfort to.

This is the 13th Year that The Peter Maurin Center will be coordinating the efforts of the Akron Emergency Overnight Warming Center. Over the past five years, working with a myriad of partners, the EOWC has hosted over Fifty-Five Hundred Nighttime Stays and protected more than 111,000 fingers and toes that we guarantee left the facility the next day, intact!

For the past 12 years, we have arbitrarily set a “15 degree F or lower” threshold for the facility to be open. We acknowledge that NONE OF US… want to sleep on our back porches at 25 degrees because it is still dangerously cold.

This year, thru collaboration with our partners, we are raising the threshold temperature to 25ºF or colder!

We all know what that means. The EOWC will be open many more nights.

The EOWC will need far more volunteers and provisions.

If nothing else is remembered about this simple message, Please remember: AKRONEMERGENCYSHELTER.OR G

Please, visit the website and simply sign-up, with no strings attached, to receive information and alerts as to when the Center will be open and what provisions are needed.

Thank You, for the many, many outstanding, wonderful people that have freely given of themselves so that “… the least of these brothers and sisters…” would have a safe, warm place to sleep at night.
