KUA News KUA gana 6 premios Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority ganó seis premios en los Golden Image Awards de 2019, una competencia anual a nivel estatal patrocinada por la Asociación de Relaciones Públicas de la Florida. Los ganadores fueron anunciados en la noche del 6 de agosto en la 81ª conferencia anual de la Asociación en Tampa. La competencia reconoce a las empresas y organizaciones que exhiben y emplean proyectos integrales de relaciones públicas que cumplen con los más altos estándares de excelencia en los cuatro componentes de la programación de relaciones públicas: investigación, planificación, ejecución y evaluación. KUA obtuvo dos premios Golden Image, un premio de distinción y tres premios de jueces. KUA wins 6 Statewide Public Relations awards Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority won six awards at the 2019 Golden Image Awards, an annual statewide competition sponsored by the Florida Public Relations Association. The winners were announced Tuesday evening at the Association’s 81st annual conference in Tampa. The competition recognizes companies and organizations which exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of public relations programming: research, planning, execution and evaluation. KUA earned two Golden Image Awards, one Award of Distinction and three Judges’ Awards. A Golden Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in each category. An Award of Distinction is presented to an entry that meets the standard of excellence set by a panel of judges. A Judges’ Award is presented to an entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money.
In the internal communications category, KUA received an Award of Distinction and a Judges’ Award for its employee blood drive campaign. In the annual report category, KUA received a Golden Image Award for its 2017 Annual Report. In 2018, the utility produced an annual report that gave readers a behind-the-scenes look at how advanced planning, investment in infrastructure, teamwork and good old-fashioned grit contributed to the utility’s power restoration efforts after Hurricane Irma — the costliest storm in state history. In the institutional video category, KUA received a Judges’ Award for its Day of Giving video. In 2018, utility employees participated in their annual Day of Giving where they packed more than 20,000 meals to aid the most vulnerable in our community and abroad. A video about the event was produced by the utility to generate awareness and support. The video garnered 26,500 views on Facebook and 449 reactions, comments and shares in the first week after release.

The utility received more than 150 reports from customers who were threatened with service disconnection for unpaid account balances, even though these customers were not behind on their payments.

The customers were contacted by phone by individuals claiming to be from KUA, warning them that their service would be shut off immediately unless the customer purchased a MoneyPak prepaid debit card from an area retailer, loaded a cash payment, and called back the scammer to provide the card number. MoneyPak and similar reloadable cards are not traceable. Threats of immediate disconnection are generally a sign that customers have been contacted by a scam artist. KUA provides a mailed past-due notice and an automated reminder call before terminating service, but never demands direct payment over the telephone. If customers wish, they can arrange for a payment by check, credit card or debit card if they speak directly to a customer service representative or pay online at http://ebill.kua.com.

Esta recepción conto con la participación de Tony Ortiz, Comisionado del distrito 2 de Orlando, líderes comunitarios e invitados especiales. Celebration of Ecuadorian civic week in Orlando Orlando, FL - On Friday, August 9, the Commemoration Act for the Independence of Ecuador was held in the City Hall of Orlando. This reception was attended by Tony Ortiz, Commissioner of the Orlando District 2, community leaders and special guests. The program included: the anthems of Ecuador and the United States, in addition to dance groups and participation of local leaders. The traditional event that takes place for several successive years consisted of three consecutive days of activities, this year began from August 9 to 11 that included: Solemn Act, Gala Dinner and Sports Event of Soccer. On Saturday, August 10, the Dinner Gala was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Orlando. On this evening, there was a special guest, the singer María Elena from Ecuador, who captive the audience with her voice.
A group of leaders and personalities received special recognition for their leadership and great involvement in social causes and the development of our community in Central Florida. Among them were Luis M. Orange County residents can get free sandbags Orange County, FL – In an effort to prepare for the peak of hurricane season, Orange County Government is hosting a free self-serve sandbag program for residents at five Orange County park locations starting Aug. 19, 2019 through Aug. 31, 2019. The program is free and open to all Orange County residents. UCF - Valencia College Downtown actualización Orlando, FL – UnionWest en Creative Village es una torre de viviendas para estudiantes de 15 pisos desarrollada de forma privada y abierta a estudiantes de UCF y Valencia. Hay 640 camas de alojamiento para estudiantes en los niveles superiores, con aulas, un centro de recreación, clínica de salud estudiantil, servicios para estudiantes y un innovador laboratorio de artes culinarias hecho posible con el apoyo de Walt Disney World en los niveles inferiores. A partir del 5 de agosto, 563 estudiantes, que es una capacidad de ocupación del 90 por ciento, se han inscrito para vivir en UnionWest. El edificio de uso mixto recibió un Certificado de Ocupación Temporal y se instalaron muebles en todas las habitaciones de los estudiantes. Se están instalando mesas altas, sofás

Orlando, FL – UnionWest at Creative Village is a privately developed, 15-story student-housing tower open to UCF and Valencia students. There are 640 beds of student housing on the upper levels, with classrooms, a recreation center, student health clinic, student services and an innovative culinary arts lab made possible with support from Walt Disney World on the lower levels. As of Aug. 5, 563 students – which is 90 percent occupancy capacity - have signed up to live in UnionWest. The mixed-use building has received a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy and furniture has been installed in all student housing rooms. High-top tables, couches and armchairs are
being installed the study areas and collaborative spaces. The equipment for the 7,900-square foot Recreation and Wellness Center has been delivered and is being set up. Offices, lounges and meeting rooms in student services areas are stocked with furniture, and computers have been installed. Graphic work and other cosmetic touches will continue in the weeks ahead. As of Aug. 2, an estimated 7,000 students are enrolled downtown this fall. Three hundred faculty and staff will work on the campus. Faculty will gradually move to the new campus in the weeks ahead, student residents will move in to UnionWest beginning on Aug. 21, and the first day of classes will be on Aug. 26.

PROJECT TIMELINE Project begins (July 2019 to September 2019): During this period, preconstruction activities, mobilization and material procurement will occur. Phase 1 (September 2019 to Jan 2020): The rehabilitation of the existing sewer system including the removal and replacement of manholes and sewer lines will be conducted in the San Remo Rd., Floridian Dr. and Mayan Pl. area (please see map for phase 1). Phase 2 (January 2020 to March 2020): The rehabilitation of the existing sewer system including the removal and replacement of manholes and sewer lines will be conducted in the San Remo Rd. and Carlsbad Dr. area (please see map for phase 2). Phase 3 (September 2019 to June 2020): The rehabilitation of existing sewer system including the removal and replacement of manholes and sewer lines will occur in the San Remo Rd. and Mendoza Dr. area (please see map for phase 3). Approximately the first six months of this phase will be related to site preparation in order to conduct the rehabilitation project. This may include approved relocation of power utilities, tree trimming, fence removal and site dewatering. Phase 4 (August 2019 to May 2020): Spot repairs on sewer system and lining

Residents will be notified in advance should their driveway be temporarily blocked. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution when approaching these areas. Speed limits may be reduced in certain areas. Signage will be placed as needed to keep residents and the traveling public informed of the project. UPDATES Toho will work to minimize any impacts on the community as much as possible. Area restoration will be conducted as the project progresses. Personas con deudas de impuestos deben actuar para evitar revocación de pasaportes Washington - El Servicio de Impuestos Internos insta a los contribuyentes a resolver sus deudas tributarias significativas para evitar poner sus pasaportes en peligro. Individuals with significant tax debt should act promptly to avoid revocation of passports Washington - The Internal Revenue Service urged taxpayers to resolve their significant tax debts to avoid putting their passports in jeopardy. They should contact the IRS now to avoid delays in their travel plans later. Under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, the IRS notifies the State Department (State) of taxpayers certified as owing a seriously delinquent tax debt, which is currently $52,000 or more. The law then requires State to deny their passport application or renewal. If a taxpayer currently has a valid passport, State may revoke the passport or limit a taxpayer’s ability to travel outside the United States. When the IRS certifies a taxpayer to State as owing a seriously delinquent tax debt, the taxpayer receives a Notice CP508C from the IRS. The notice explains what steps the taxpayer needs to take to resolve the debt. IRS telephone assistors can help taxpayers resolve the debt. For example, they can help taxpayers set up a payment plan or make them aware of other payment options. Taxpayers should not delay because some resolutions take longer than others. Don’t Delay! It’s especially important for taxpayers with imminent travel plans who have had their passport applications denied by State to call the IRS promptly. The IRS can help taxpayers resolve their tax issues and expedite reversal of their certification to State. When expedited, the IRS can generally shorten the 30 days processing time by 14 to 21 days. For expedited reversal of their certification, taxpayers will need to inform the
IRS that they have travel scheduled within 45 days or that they live abroad. For expedited treatment, taxpayers must provide the following documents to the IRS: •Proof of travel. This can be a flight itinerary, hotel reservation, cruise ticket, international car insurance or other document showing location and approximate date of travel or time-sensitive need for a passport. •Copy of letter from State denying their passport application or revoking their passport. State has sole authority to issue, limit, deny or revoke a passport. The IRS may ask State to exercise its authority to revoke a taxpayer’s passport. For example, the IRS may recommend revocation if the IRS had reversed a taxpayer’s certification because of their promise to pay, and they failed to pay. The IRS may also ask State to revoke a passport if the taxpayer could use offshore activities or interests to resolve their debt but chooses not to. Before contacting State about revoking a taxpayer’s passport, the IRS will send Letter 6152, Notice of Intent to Request U.S. Department of State Revoke Your Passport, to the taxpayer to let them know what the IRS intends to do and give them another opportunity to resolve their debts . Taxpayers must call the IRS within 30 days from the date of the letter. Generally, the IRS will not recommend revoking a taxpayer’s passport if the taxpayer is making a good faith attempt to resolve their tax debts. Armed robberies Osceola County, FL On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an Armed Robbery to the Dunkin Donuts located at 2385 N. Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee. Employees at the location told deputies a male entered the business approached the front counter, displayed a firearm from his waistband, and demanded money. The suspect ran from the location towards the back of the business and was described as a white male in his mid to late 30’s, approximately 6 feet tall, with dirty blonde hair, light colored
eyes, wearing jeans, a black tee shirt with a logo, and a camouflage baseball cap. The next day, August 8, 2019, deputies responded to another Armed Robbery at the Mobile on the Run gas station located at 1979 E. Osceola Parkway, Kissimmee. Employees told deputies a White male in his mid to late 30’s entered the business, approached the front counter, displayed a firearm and demanded cash. The suspect then ran towards the back of the business. When detectives compared video surveillance from Dunkin Donuts to the Mobile on the Run, the determination was made the suspect in both robberies is the same person. This is an open investigation.
