From the Commodore

G’Day Members,

As we move from Summer into Autumn, we are still experiencing some beautiful weather in which to enjoy the facilities on offer at the ORSSC, so keep a look out at the club notice boards and other media we use to advertise up and coming events and please support as we are putting on function for you the membership.

We have the ANZAC Dawn Service coming on the 25th April this is run by the RSL and with it being the last one at our current location, as the memorial will be coming down after tis one and will be going into storage until the new location is ready, so please make the effort and come down to make it special for our 50 th Anniversary year at ORSSC, more details will be coming up.

As most of you would have noticed that the area around the club is changing as Stage 1 of the construction of the Marina has begun to come into effect and will be on going for the next few years in some shape or form, so please mindful when construction is going on and stay safe as there will be heavy machinery in the area, with some key dates as follows.

March 14 – Installation of temporary fencing of construction sit for ORSSC Patrons safety - please adhere to all signage.

Early April – Establishment of Georgiou site compound.

4

Early April – Closure of Boat Harbour Quays Road.

Around 8th April – Temporary Disruption to Power Supply - Backup Generator already organised so no issues to functioning of the club.

Mid April – Closure of Boat Ramps 5, 6, 7 and 8 along with Beach Area.

Mid April – Opening of Temporary Car Park and Closure of existing.

Please remember we are tenants, and this is a council project so if you have any issues take them up with your local MP as we as a club and committee have no authority over what is happening. With the erection of the construction fencing can I please ask parents to mindful of their children with balls as if they go over, they cannot be retrieved and may have to look at stopping ball games all together if it becomes an issue, also the fences are not climbing frames as we don’t want any accidents or injuries from falling fencing.

Please can I remind hard stand users that your entitlement is for one bay so if you are going to Rottnest over night for example you can put your trailer back in your pen and leave your car in the car park, please do not put it back in the hardstand in what you may think is a vacant bay as people come and go all the time, and may have their boat at home for a while doing maintenance, which is what the facility is about, so please be courteous to fellow users due to a recent incident. We also request that members do not park in front of the hard stand gates. The Hard stand needs to be accessible 24hrs 7 days a week. We have had a few instances of late where vehicles have park in front of the gates making it impossible for others to access their boats in this area. Please note if you do have your vehicle parked there blocking the entry you do run the risk of it being towed.

On a happier note Kym our Club Manager has announced that she is pregnant, so will be going on maternity leave in June. I am sure you will join the committee and wish her all the best. During her absence we are going to employ an interim manager to cover, we will keep you all updated so if you see a new face around the club please say G’day and make them feel welcome.

As we come to the end of our celebration for our 50 th Anniversary we can look back on an eventful year with some good function put on by our dedicated staff that have been successful, well supported and profitable. With all the building work going on please be patient as we are as frustrated as you the members are as the committee are members as well and like to enjoy the facilities on offer, so please be friendly, courteous and understanding to your fellow members during this period of development and improvement for the club and surrounding area and here is to the next 50 years.

Any issues or queries please do not hesitate to talk to one of the committees as they are all friendly and approachable and will do their best to resolve it, or put it in writing to the committee and it will be addressed at the next meeting, please do not unload on to the staff as they will only pass on to the committee to address, which will allow them to carry on the day to day operation and the smooth running of the club which we all want.

So please enjoy what remains of the good weather and will see you around the Club.

From the Club Manager

Hello Members,

What a busy Summer season we have had at the Club. We welcomed over 60 new Members (mostly Family Memberships), reflecting a healthy influx of new members into our growing club. Additionally, we successfully hosted our signature Club Events including New Years Eve, Australia Day and our most popular Event Bali by the Sea, and introduced Friday and Saturday lunches which has been met with very positive responses.

Club Events

We held a very successful Australia Day yet again – DJ Karl kicked things off from midday with our fantastic Social Section running the BBQ. Our resident Face Painters Sunny Kids Face Painting came along and enjoyed an afternoon of painting hundreds of children’s smiling faces. One of the club favourite bands Dr Bogus Band got everyone off their feet at Sunset for the evening.

Bali by the Sea was back for it’s 4th year and once again did not disappoint! The club was filled with smells of Bali and the Bintang was flowing. The Bali Dewata (Balinese Community Association if Western Australia) were here to support the day by providing traditional cuisine, market stalls, massage and traditional performances to really ensure that we hit the mark with bringing Bali to Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club. Our resident DJ, DJ Karl once again kicked the day off in style, while the Balinese priest met guests at the door giving his blessings. Our cocktail bar was overwhelmed with cocktail orders as the sun was out and made for the perfect day for one! Between the music, the Bali Dewata performed traditional dances such as the Topeng Tua, Bleganjur and the Birds of Paradise dance which kept the audience and kids engaged.

At sunset, our Firedancer was back for another breathtaking performance. Pinstripe the Band then had everyone off their feet dancing up until the very end! Once again we raised money to help our Balinese friends, this year the money raised on the day from the raffles went to an Eye Bus, which travels around to remote villages to provide medical assistance to those who have vision impairment. A total of $2,850 was raised which went directly to the Lets Help Bali Foundation. We all love this day, and it supports such a great cause so we get double the enjoyment out of it.

6

Lastly, our inaugural Members Cocktail Gala was held on the 23rd March. It was the first of its kind, inviting Members and their Guests to come and enjoy a night of elegance and entertainment. The function room looked great and the attendees really came to the party in their white cocktail style outfits. There was plenty of cocktail style food to keep everyone well fed, Little Belle performed for the evening who got everyone up and dancing, and we had Margaret River Beer Co kindly come along to provide samples of their products. The night was met with very positive feedback, and we may reintroduce it next year for our Members again.

25th April will see our last ANZAC Day held at our beloved Club before Civil Works continue to work around us. Please join us for the 5:45am Dawn Service followed by a Shotgun Breakfast and Two up from 8am. The Club will be open until 6pm. The Galley will be closed on the day, so we will have a couple of BBQs throughout the day, attendees are welcome to BYO food. Please ensure you put your rubbish in the bin if you do bring your own food – it helps our staff our a lot and also helps the environment so its not blown into surrounding areas.

Thankyou to everyone who come to these Events, and a big thanks to our staff behind the scenes and on the day who work tirelessly to bring it all together. From the Admin Staff, to the Galley and Bar – their efforts do not go unnoticed.

Civil Works around the Club

In the coming days, weeks, and months, Members will notice some changes and developments along the club's perimeter. We wish to reassure you that these changes will not disrupt the operation of our club we will continue to operate as per normal.

Rest assured, we are in constant communication with Georgiou Group who are responsible for the civil works commencing around us, and we will continue to keep you informed as new information becomes available.

Below, we have outlined the upcoming developments:

From March 14th: Installation of temporary fencing within ORSSC for patron safety and perimeter fencing for the project site.

Early April: Establishment of the Georgiou site compound.

Early April: Closure of Boat Harbour Quays Road.

Mid-April: Closure of Boat Ramps 5, 6, 7, and 8, along with the beach area.

Mid-April: Opening of Temporary Car Park and closure of Existing Car Park.

It is important to note that these surrounding works are beyond our control, and they have to happen in order to move forward with the surrounding development. If Members have any feedback, please call the project enquiry line direct (not the Club) on 1800 943 121 or email oceanreefmarina@developmentwa.com.au Kym

Boat Fishing Report - January

Well, the forecast for Saturday’s fishing was on point with gentle east winds forecasted, easing into a south wester for the afternoon. The moon and tides were also on our side for this last comp prior to the two-month demersal ban kicking in. Everything was lining up just perfectly for the boaties to get amongst the fish for the day. We just needed the fish to play the game. 31 keen fisho’s signed on and 14 boats hit the water.

UPCOMING EVENTS

April 6th Boat Comp - club comp

April 20th WAIBAC State Boat Titles

April 27th Boat Comp - club comp

The inshore bread and butter fish was the easy target for most on the morning. Tucking up behind our local reefs and burleying up the critters is always a good way to start day. Some very good tarwhine caught this way and young Crew landed a belter at 0.931kg! Trevally are always a nice one to get into on the light gear and our favourite Collingwood supporter Drew got a solid fish of 1.117kg on the little gear. How are those pies going this year? For those who went a bit wider to chase something a bit bigger had no issue finding one of the “illusive” four demersal to add into the bag. Beach fisho come of age and now part time boat fisho Kiwi nabbed the biggest dhu of the day pushing just over 8 kegs-good eater that size. Sam Broadhurst, wife of Elliot “whiskers” Tunahurst, getting herself the biggest pinkie of the day coming in at 4.14kg, once again giving it to the boys. But in my mind, it was another beach fisho who took out fish of the day-lol. Clive Powell with a monster shark pulling the scales down, nearly breaking them, at a massive 1.078kg! hehe. Good to see you getting amongst it buddy.

14

Onto the weigh and judging by all the bags everyone found the fish. Kicking it off with the mini juniors. The little weapon Crew Bell with 6 species including that monster tarwhine, 6 heaviest, 2.545kg and 101.1 points. Awesome bag that would give most sections a good run.

Next up is Juniors. Stewart Graves taking the chocolates with 3 species including a very nice leather jacket close to a kilo, 3 heaviest of species, 2.763kg and 53.5 points.

Next up are the vets and boy are they all starting to come out of the woodwork, literally. A very close podium this one, with only heaviest of species points separating the top three. In third Terry Bell with 5 species, 1 heaviest 2.424kg and 60.8 points. Second was the Vince “Almond Latte” Cox with 6 species, 2 heaviest - one being a very nice baldchin grouper, total bag weight of 6.113kg and a total of 84.2 points. Rising above and beyond the all-out dog fight for first was the master shark fisherman Clive Powell. Clive had 6 species, 5 heaviest including Jaws junior brother (1.117kg) a total bag weight of 3.663kg and a total point score of 97.3 points - nice work.

The ladies had a great following in this one. Long time no see Carmin Irwin getting out on the boat again for a fish. Carmen ended up with 5 species, 3 heaviest, 1.445kg and 70.9 points. Good to see you again mate and good bag of fish to go with. The dual of neighbours is still running strong, would hate to hit my cricket ball over one

of these two fences lol. In second was the wife of Whiskers, Sam Broadhurst with 6 Species, 3 heaviest including the cracking pinkie, total bag weight of 6.293kg and a total 90.6 points. Coming in first was Belinda “I don’t hold Fish” Mallon with a very good bag of fish, Bel’s bag had 7 species, 6 heaviest, 7.624kg and a total of 121.2 points. Congratulations ladies. The mens had some good bags weighed regarding species. Red Furgson, my awesome deckie that still does not know where the deck wash on/off button is ran in 3rd on the podium with 7 species, 1 heaviest, 9.063kg and 94.1 points. Good work deckie. In second with a very solid bag for a beach boy, Kiwi. Kiwi had himself a cracker day onboard Drews boat with 7 species, 3 heaviest, 16.426kg and 120.9 pointsvery solid bag. In first position was Boat Captain Buckets. My day did not start well and Red my awesome deckie decided to let me know how many fish I did not have compared to him. Thanks to his little pep talk I ended up with 12 species, 4 heaviest, 9.315kg and 162.6 points. Gotcha red.

Thanks once again to the mob that helped get our weigh ins completed. Ricko keeping every bag of fish honest coming over the scales, Daniel Bell for weighing in all fish and Terry Bell for scoring on the white board. Also, our favorite Mumma Maree for all the photos that she takes during fishing competitions. You are all legends.

Our next boat comp is the 6th of April. This the opening of the demersal ban for a couple of months. We have two club comps in April, the 6th and the 27th. There is also the state boat comp held in Cockburn Sound on the 20th of April. If you require any more information you can contact my self.

Boat Captain Buckets signing out.

Beach Fishing Report – January

Summary

Some new faces on the leader board with Bruce Bennett and Adam Broadhead both posting great results including a 4.1kg from Bruce! Ricko dominates the vets with 220 points and 12 species! Some monster herring caught with 3 over 400g with Jeff weighing in a monster at 484g.

Highlights

As I was enjoying some cocktails on an Island off Phuket called Koh Samui, there was a fishing comp in progress. By all accounts it looks like it was very successful, with 20 anglers weighing in and some very impressive catches. Bruce had a very good bag, taking out the men’s division with 4 fish including the only Pink Snapper of the day at over 4kg, a Wobbygong Shark at 9.67kg and a Flounder of 372g. Adam wasn’t far behind and could argue he had an equally as impressive bag with 7 different species including a chunky Tarwhine at 625g and a skippy of 530g.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have any mini juniors weigh in this month but we did have a couple of juniors. Cruz got stuck into a few fish, winning with 53 points leaving Stewart coming second with the one species. Maree not only won the ladies comp but also managed to snag a prime position on the front of the latest tide magazine! Maree liking her new beach combo that much, she decided to give it a run on the boat haha! Maree has mentioned she will be free to sign any copies if brought to her

UPCOMING EVENTS

Port Gregory away comp is coming up on the March long weekend! Not long now! Make sure if you are planning on coming to have your accommodation sorted. This comp rarely disappoints. Over the past few years we have seen Mulloway over 15kg, heaps of Pink, Snapper, Baldchin Groper, big flathead, lots of Tailor and even Spanish Mackeral weighed in. It’s a great weekend away and a highlight of the year.

at the club. Maree managed 3 species and a score of 45 points! Great work!

In the vets Ricko dominated, with 12 different species (including a Wobbygong shark) he was setting himself up for a very high score of 220 points. Terry Bell came second, with a respectable 7 species and 102 points. Locky finished off the placings coming in at third, also with 7 species and 84 points. It’s not only the weather currently, but some of these scores that are getting posted are red HOT!

Summary

A scorching heat wave see’s pelagics move in close, with two school Mackeral getting weighed and some bigger ones lost. Ricko catches an unbelievable bag with 15 different species. Joe and Clive get 2 monster Flathead within a few minutes of each other.

A Shovel and Wobby caught and released!

Highlights

What an absolute scorcher of a weekend! I heard there were a few red faces Sunday arvo, some so red infact they avoided coming to the weigh in haha! Hot weather is what pelagics like Mackeral love and I was having a conversation with my wife mentioning we would of more than likely got stuck into some if we headed away. My predictions were spot on with

two school mackeral getting weighed in. One by Ricko (1.63kg) and a club record 2.2kg specimen by Tyla. Kiwi even mentioned he hooked a really big one (Spanish Mackeral) which he seen jumping out the water before it bit through his mono leader.

Joe and Clive got stuck into some monster Flathead with Joe’s going 1.5kg and Clives 1.75kg. Clive was excited to tell me that he caught it on the first cast of his new Assassin rod he purchased from me only a few days prior. Tyla had a great bag of fish with him narrowly beating Daniel Bell by only eight points. Daniel Bell caught a monster white spot Guitar fish

(Shovel Nose) estimated to be around 70kg which he released after taking a photo with the codeword.

It was a bit quiet on the kids front with only Crew Bell and Ashton Marsden weighing in for the Mini Juniors. Both the lads had a species each and 17 points with Crew winning having the heavier fish. In the ladies, Carolyn Benniman claimed second place with a couple of species including a nice Tailor of 507g. Bron won with four species and 80 points. Bron had a nice Pink Snapper in her bag which weighed 3.21kg. Bron’s husband, Kiwi, also managed a really nice Pinky of 4.46kg which was the heaviest of the weekend but didn’t get him into the top three for the mens. In the Mens, Tyla held off the two Bell’s (Daniel & Mitch) with an impressive bag off 11 species and 150 points. Daniel came second with 9 species including a Wirrah of 762g, a 552g Skippy and the Shovel Nose. Mitchell Bell was also in the mix with a score of 103 points and 8 species.

In the Vets we had some more amazing bags weighed in, with Rickos being one of the most impressive bags I’ve personally weighed in.

Heaviest Species Winners & Sponsors

Ricko had 15 different species including a Sand Bass, School Mackeral, Pink Snapper (3.88kg), Goldspot Sweetlips (713g), Flathead (873g), Tailor (713g), Wobby (caught and released), King George (196g) Wrasse & huge Sand Whiting (250g). Clive’s bag was also impressive with the big flattie we discussed earlier. Clive took out second place with Vince rounding off the placings at third place. Vince had an impressive 9 species and the only Pike weighed in for the weekend.

If this heat continues over the next week or so it will make it a very interesting competition up at Port Gregory. This weigh in will be hard to top but if there is any place that can do it, it’s our beautiful mid-west!

The Sailing Report

Season Summary

The Sailing Section kicked off the season with the Rear Commodores Cup on the club’s opening day, followed by 6 races for the winter season of racing.

After a wrap-up of a great Spring Series of racing just before the Christmas period, we commenced our Summer Series of racing. This year has seen a great turnout of boats, with some old faces and a few new ones joining us on the water to enjoy reasonably good weather throughout.

We had our Christmas party in mid-December, which saw great company and a good time. It was good to celebrate on dry land. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us.

ORSSC Sailing Section have also completed 4 of 5 races in the North Coast Series with Hillarys Yacht Club. The competition is tight as always and the Hillarys fleet are definitely keeping our Ocean Reef fleet on their toes. As always, a huge thank you to the ORSSC and HYC start crew and volunteers who make this happen for us every year.

The Sailing Section has competed in other interclub events, including the HYC Dash for Cash race from Fremantle to Hillarys – an invitational event open to the metro sailing groups.

This year the ORSSC Dingy Section entered the Convict Bay Regatta held by Shelley Sailing Club also, two of our Windrush 14's competed in the state championships, held at Mandurah. Congratulations to Sarah Phipps and Dylan Hess for placing 2nd in their division.

22

The Labour Day weekend, at the beginning of March, the ORSSC dingy section travelled down to Walpole for the annual Walpole In The Trees regatta, this year we entered 5 boats.

Congratulations to Ian James & Micheala for placing 2nd overall, to Sarah Phipps and Dylan Hess for placing 2nd in the Sunday race and to Hollie Hodkinson and Alan Peacham for placing third.

Looking forward, the Sailing Section is finalising the summer series of racing and overall positions for all 3 seasons are tight, with 4 boats in contention for 2023/24 Champion Boat.

Wishing you all the best for the rest of 2024 and thank you to all who joined us in 2023 to make another great year of sailing.

See you on the water,

Andy Hodkinson Rear Commodore, Sailing

The Power Boating Report

Season Summary

Despite facing challenges with high winds at the start of the season, our section members have remained active and engaged. We were unable to put our boats onto the water, but that did not stop us from finding ways to enjoy our shared passion for boating.

Our Friday night dine-in events have continued to be well patronised; the section is constantly on the lookout for new member to come along to our regular activities.

The section arranged a raft up to celebrate Australia Day. Members travelled down the coast from Mindarie and Hillary’s Marinas to Fremantle heads before continuing on the steady journey upriver. We were joined by a new member to the section, Paul Rubotham and family and it was great to have them along for their first section outing.

Our destination was the beautiful Applecross foreshore where we had six boats raft up for an afternoon BBQ, swimming and refreshments to celebrate our country’s special day. We were blessed with fantastic weather which made for great viewing of the fireworks from the Perth foreshore. The following morning we slowly made our way home after a traditional bacon and egg breakfast onboard the boats.

24

In February we held an activity that was a little different for the section. We all met up on the South Perth foreshore for a day of catamaran racing across Perth water.

The event was very well attended, surfcat hire was a regular activity for many of us growing up in Perth so it was certainly a step back in time and it seems most of held onto those sailing skills of yesteryear. Craig and Sindy Dowden were best on water and it certainly brought out their competitive sailing skills.

We had a great BBQ lunch and a catchup with section members under the new ORSSC marquee which was a bonus as the weather was a little inclement for an hour or so.

The section is actively seeking new members for our on and off water activities. Even if you don’t own a boat please get in touch and you will be welcomed along at our regular activities.

The Diving Report

Season Summary

Movember is about men’s health in general - a plea from the heart to take care ….

My story is not just about me, Erick and Martin, but about everyone just taking care of themselves and listening to our bodies and make use of the simple health tests that are made available to us all for our ongoing Health and Wellbeing=Living.

In June 2023 I (David) had my standard blood test to find I was iron deficient and that my PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) had increased slightly from 3.1 to 3.5 since my last test. In the scheme of numbers, not to large an increase but my doctor advised because I had been doing this test for 14 years and have a good record mapping of my PSA levels before this test, with the unusual change in numbers that we should probably get this checked further. I (we) also had no symptoms at the time. This is usually the reason we don’t get checked.

Once I had seen the urologist and an MRI was conducted, it showed a 7mm lump in my prostrate area. In the doctor’s words, “this could possibly be cancer but because a second PSA test had not changed this should be treated/manageable, but if I was to have biopsy, this would tell me what I was dealing with. “The testing system is so supportive once you get going…..”!

2023 Dive Xmas Party

Christmas party 2023 held at Rick & Tricia Green’s with plenty of food, laughter and good times. Another year of Secret Santa presents being stolen and stolen again, one present in particular causing great hysterics to everyone – thanks Rick for the entertainment. Everyone bought a dish to share so quite a smorgasbord of choices. Most behaved themselves – only a couple ending up in the pool fully clothed – 2 females again Dave Baronet and he came off dry. Another great night had by all.

What happens at the Dive Xmas party stay at the Dive Xmas party.

Going along with what was suggested best practice, the biopsy revealed the not-so-great news, I was very unfortunate that the lump was in fact cancerous, was classed as aggressive (stage 2) and there was no guarantee of how chemotherapy would go as a treatment and that chemo’ would further delay any possible surgery in the immediate future. The lump was 7mm and was contained inside the prostate gland, we decided surgery was the best option for me. As did Erick and Martin.

We want to tell this story and alert people of the reality of this situation and the impact. The mental drain this finding can put on people when they are told they could have cancer is huge, also, so very, very stressful for their partners and family, but as a “Team’’ this journey can be a lot easier.

I found as I/we entered this journey and shared the news, you find there are a lot more men and women who have their own stories to tell and with this shared information it does make the journey a lot easier to bare, understand and endure.

Now, the recovery time/mode, it certainly has its challenges, and it did take a mental drain on me (us) and our relationships, as with our partners but with the power of communication and sharing, this journey can be made easier for all.

26

I (we) ask is that each and every one of you, take the time to do your health checks, as the challenges do increase the longer you wait.

Kind Regards,

27

Social Report

Season Summary

Hey Everyone,

Social has been busy over the last 3 months. We had volunteers helping out New Years Eve, Australia Day and Bali by the Sea!

UPCOMING EVENTS (CLUB)

The Club will be hosting an Aussie Rock Night by Filthy Habits on Saturday, 20 April in the Hall. Band nights are always so much fun, if you havent attended one yet, this would be a good one to go and enjoy!

Upcoming Events

The next Social Section event will be Casino Night on Saturday, 25 May 2024. We have lined up amazing showgirls to greet you and do a short performance, we also have a couple roulette tables, black jack tables and a craps table to keep you busy all night, these will be manned by professional croupiers! We also have some live music lines up from DJ Devoe who are resident DJ’s at Crown Casino, so they know how to get the party started. Save the date in your calendars now and start looking for your best cocktail attire!

Following Casino Night, Social is bringing back ‘Bogan Bingo’ due to popular demand. This will be on 17 August. This was a sell out in 2023, lots of people missed out, so be sure to purchase your tickets early, they’ll likely go on sale at the beginning of July.

Our annual ‘Day at the Races’ will be back in 2024 too - we’ve already locked in Saturday, 26 October 2024, so block out your calendars.

If you have an event idea, get it touch, we have a couple dates free that we are looking to fill with something new!

Past Events (last month)

The Social Section recently headed out to Chequers Golf Course on Sunday, 17 March. Firstly, I’d like to thank Norm for putting the event together and everyone who came who made it such an awesome day. This event sold out fairly quickly, so we can’t wait for the next one in 2024!

30

We started the day around 8am at the Club with myself, Brendan, Rob serving plenty of drinks for everyone, then we grabbed a few roadies each and jumped on the coach that took us out to Chequers. We had 32 players (or 8 teams of 4). We played 18 holes with golf buggies (definitely needed them, the day was much warmer than predicted!). Brendan won longest drive on the hole 6 and was treated with a jug of beer back at the ORSSC and Lynn won closest to the pin on hold 8 and was treated to a bottle of white wine. We had a selection of finger sandwiches for lunch between switching between the 9 holes, followed by some hot bar snacks when we finished up.

Huge congratulations to Rob, Leby, Fletch and Mark on winning the game overall with a score of 70. They each picked up a $25 gift voucher for CJ’s Butchers in Beaumaris!

The Club also just threw its New Years Eve Party on 31 December 2023. It was a great day enjoyed by all. Huge thanks to Brendan, Mark and Tom who helped me cook up the first sausage sizzle of the day from 12 – 3pm. Then a huge thanks to Silvio, Norm, Scruffy for helping me with the second sausage sizzle from 5 – 7:30pm! It’s a long day on the BBQ’s so we all very much appreciate the effort these boys put in to keep us all fed and happy!

Social also had volunteers helping out with Australia Day at the ORSSC, including Norm, Elaine and Greg helping on the door to check tickets and make sure you all got in as quickly as possible to enjoy the day.

Maree, Elaine and Greg also helped the Club by sitting on the door for Bali by the Sea from midday to 3pm in February, Greg and Elaine also came down in the early morning with me to help move some of the big wooden tables, set out all the plastic tables and chairs and made room for the Balinese performers later that day. They also put up all the umbrellas, set up the bean bags, wiped down the tables and pick up all the rubbish on the floor left from the night before – absolute superstars!

General Business

The Club is getting busier and busier, this means long lines at the bar. To help us, help you, please consider bringing your empty glasses to the bar with you when you purchase your next round of drinks. The less staff we have collecting glasses, the more we have serving you drinks behind the bar.

Any important information?

Lastly, if you’re interested in getting more involved at the Club, involved in the Social Section and joining the Social Committee or have an event idea you would like us to look into please contact me at social@orssc.asn.au
