Porsche is the people’s choice at Flinders E
very year on Easter Sunday, a huge gathering of beautiful exotic, historic, vintage and veteran cars line up at Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula. The event is called the Flinders Motoring Heritage, a major fundraiser organised by the Flinders District Lions Club. Previous events have raised more than $150,000 for Peninsula Health. This year, a bumper crop of almost 200 cars arrived for the prestigious event on a sunny Victorian day. A huge range of makes and models were represented, from veteran vehicles dating back to the early 1900s to the latest luxury Porsches. With so many vehicles to delight spectators, the organisers used a 1934 bus to take people for a sightseeing tour around the village, including food, music and a festival atmosphere. Out of all the memorable cars at the show, only one could take the coveted People’s Choice Award, which is judged by the public.
Tom Barr Smith took the prize this year with his stunning 1972 Porsche 365. A long-time exponent of the Porsche marque, Tom was featured in the July 2021 issue of Turbo magazine with another of his distinctive Porsches – the 2003 C4S, a car he and his son Tom used to conquer the Simpson Desert. Other Porsches at the Finders Motoring Heritage show were displayed by Porsche Centre of Brighton, including a Macan GTS in striking Python Green, a Carmine Red Cayenne GTS Coupe and a 911 Carrera in Crayon – a special Porsche colour which is similar to a non-metallic grey but changes hue under different light. There was also an impressive range of other Porsches on display throughout the show, from an early model Speedster onwards. We look forward to another. •
