In tune with infotainment

Today’s buzzword is ‘infotainment’. It’s everywhere – including inside your Porsche. Now in its sixth iteration, it keeps getting better, simpler, and more in tune with your needs.

For Porsche’s 911, Taycan, Cayenne and Panamera, this sixth-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) offers a host of new functions including native Spotify integration. A revised interface design, additional voice control optimisation, wireless Android auto connection and improved planning for electric vehicle charging stops are just some of the many benefits. New coloured icons make functions easier and quicker to recognise. In addition to a clearer and brighter display, the PCM update significantly improves the voice control function’s scope. It’s now even simpler to access functions including news, the car’s operating manual and in-car music streaming.

70 million songs at your fingertips

Sit back and enjoy your favourite Spotify songs and podcasts. If you’re a Spotify Premium customer* you’ll be able to link your account to the vehicle using your Porsche ID with Spotify as an additional media source. With the connection built into the system you no longer need to access Spotify via your smartphone. Spotify’s 70 million songs and 3.2 million podcasts are right at your fingertips, with the vehicle showing saved playlists as well as integrating the new Go to Radio option which searches for a piece of music similar to the one currently playing.

Hey, Porsche!

Talking to your Porsche has never been easier. Now, by saying ‘Hey Porsche’ your system will be activated. You can still use an on-screen button or a steering wheel button, but the new assistant has been programmed to understand a much larger list of words and phrases. Use it to adjust your climate control system, change the ambient lighting levels, make a phone call or use the navigation feature. The latter has itself been improved, now updating routes more quickly as well as providing traffic levels on certain roads.

On a charge

The optimised algorithms embedded into PCM 6.0 make driving an electric Porsche even more stress-free. The algorithm prioritises charging stations with higher energy outputs, enabling you to plan charging stops more efficiently. The Charging Planner now accounts for the time required to start and end the charging process at the charging station when calculating the total driving time. Together, these measures create a significantly improved charging experience. A dynamic zoom function for charging stations during the trip has been introduced to provide a more comprehensive overview. The system shows all available charging options in the immediate vicinity, including whether they’re currently in use. The wider view limits the display to fast-charging stations, while a new filter makes it possible to sort charging points by output. The PCM 6.0 navigation system also includes a revised route monitor on which relevant events can be individually displayed or hidden during the trip. PCM 6.0 functions are standard on every newly configured Porsche 911, Taycan, Cayenne and Panamera with the exact scope depending on the vehicle’s equipment and powertrain type. Over-the-air updates ensure that Porsche drivers always have the latest software version. •
