IT’S TIME TO SHAME THE SHAMERS

The practice of belittling people has reached an unsustainable crescendo the past 14 months as those who don’t understand the very essence of free speech and conflicting opinions continue to hound and pound the weak, the gullible and the economically vulnerable. Recently the Coca Cola company’s top dog endorsed a move by Major League baseball to relocate the All Star Game to Denver because of a perceived interpretation of Georgia’s election laws. The state that received the game has election laws most would perceive as much more Draconian than those of Georgia. Georgia also has more minorities than Colorado but they haven’t legalized pot yet so the woke crowd is reluctant to move there. Maybe the mantra should be “Woke Lives Matter” but there are no recognized founders of the Woke Movement and if they are out there they aren’t investing in multimillion dollar properties for personal gain as at least one BLM founder has been doing.

The world has always been made up of risk takers and tsk-tsk makers with most folks in the middle, governed by common sense, the common good and instinctive reality checks. That’s why war rationing worked, immunization without politics succeeded and people were rewarded for unselfish whistle-blowing. Not today. Not with a hell-bound media monolith determined to ignore the distaff side of any issue. Not with the millions of latchkey adults and their helicopter-parent induced fragility. No…if you don’t toe the party line (see extreme Democrat), you’re a Neanderthal….or worse. Today smugness and self-satisfaction rises higher than a healthy society can tolerate and those who are not mainstream Neanderthals have the propensity to take on many of those aspects, creating conflict and potential bloodshed in America. Are those implicit in the violence against fellow humanity in the 2020 riot protests not acting out the very base elements of what they consider a Neanderthal? Or is that okay that, to paraphrase Spiro Agnew, “extremism in the pursuit of force-feeding my extreme liberal points of view is no vice.”

Even science gets beat up. The quotes of “follow the science” or “trust the science” means that we should be 100% on board with recent postulations, which, by the very definition of science, are subject to change and even reversal. Science was created by humans; it’s universal truths sometimes are not so universal. Quoting from Brain Pickings, various notable scientists have conflicting definitions of what constitutes science. Stuart Fierstein stated in Ignorance: How it Drives Science: that “real science is a revision in progress, always. It proceeds in fits and starts of ignorance.”

Issac Asimov stated in 1988 that “science does not purvey absolute truth; science is a mechanism (of trying to improve your knowledge of Nature.) Carl Sagan said “Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge.” Freeman Dyson offfered “all of science is uncertain and subject to revision. The glory of science is to imagine more than we can prove.”

These are all different ways of saying “hold on, Hoss….there’s a more than slim chance that some of this universal truth may be subject to further review.”And why not? The longer society steers away from practicing societal norms, the longer people chaff at rapidly unsupportive restrictions. If not, then there is not a society of free folks but a disparate community of desperation.

Watch your language but let those with invincibility on their chest and smugness in their demeanor know that you know that there is more than one way to handle a crisis. We do have crises you know; Newspeak cannot erase them from reality. And hold your position: not that many have the power to alter your world to any great degree and by being steadfast, you show those with a higher pay grade than you that the price they pay for a bigger foreign power payday will not go unchallenged. Just reaching out to the truth; climate change, border situations and continued improvement in Black society’s role among the rest of nonblack Americans will remain a reality but they really don’t drive the agenda in today’s political world. Shame on you, shamers! We’re all Americans, even if you don’t think so. Most of us would help you in a heartbeat, listen to your story and might even have the propensity and ability to save your life. Imagine that! Your life saved by a Neanderthal!

Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Pearl River Wildlife Management Area Closed Due to Flooding, LDWF Announces The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has closed the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area in St. Tammany Parish due to flooding. The Pearl River flood gauge has reached 16.5 feet, triggering the closure, which is an automatic benchmark set by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission.

The gate at the entrance to the WMA on Old Highway 11 is closed and locked. This gate will remain closed until the river recedes below 16.5 feet and the roads have been inspected.

Included in the closure is the Pearl River-Honey Island Shooting Range, located in the Pearl River WMA. The Pearl River WMA, which consists of 35,618 acres, is located approximately six miles east of Slidell and approximately one mile east of Pearl River.

Well, it’s that time of year again, Graduation.

Another group of young graduates will be leaving the comfort of home and heading off to college, the military, or the workforce. Are we ready for this? Our little growing up and leaving the nest. We wonder what will lay ahead for them. We worry if they will be safe and able to adjust to where the next chapter of their lives lead them. We hope we have raised them to be self reliant and confident in the decisions they make. Our jobs are done, except for being there for them when they us. Because you know, they will need a word of encouragement or advice every once in a while.

So with all that being said, today’s project is dedicated to all those wonderful graduates! This one I painted for a coworker as a gift for her daughter’s best friend. The wood was special ordered, could not find any locally. So this is a one of a kind piece. Painting this piece was special as my granddaughter goes to the same school and will be graduating from there in just a couple years.

Well, that’s my project for this time. What will your next project be? Mine....I don’t know, But I know it will be fun. Congratulations To All Graduating Classes of 2021!!!

There is no particular place that the fish are there consistantly. The water is muddy and 2 hours later it is clean.

I am waiting for these fronts to break and the fish get into a reasonable pattern. Everything is s lined up except the weather.

There were other fish passing by to keep the day interesting. We were able to land 9 good puppy drum and added them to our food collection. The box was looking better as the morning went on. We also had a lot of hard heads and sting rays to keep the poles bent.

I ran a trip for Venice Fishing Lodge. It was another very windy day. I had one spot in mind but we would have to cast into the wind. This would make things a bit difficult. As it was we were casting right into the beach and the angle was not directly in our face.

As it was we ended up having a one stop shopping day. This would be the only place we would fish. We started out by landing this 28 incher that gave him a good fight using the current to it’s advantage.

I had one other boat in my group. He was trying other places with no success. The talk on the radio made me decide to just sit and wait for the fish tocome past me looking for food. I had plenty to offer them. I called the other boat to find out what he had and see how he was doing.

He had nothing and decided to come join me.

I already had 3 reds in the box. It took him 20 minutes to get there. By this time we added to our catch with a nice trout.

Around 11:00 the winds got up enough that the guys decided to call it a day. We already had a nice box and conditions were not improving. It was a very successful one stop shopping day. I want to thank Venice fishing for useing me in their group.

Words to GREAUX by IMPATIENS – STILL MAKING HISTORY Mr. Claude Hope, known in plant lover circles as the “father of impatiens,” was exactly that. He is the reason for why we have come to know impatiens as being one of the most popular bedding plants amongst home gardeners. Mr. Hope first noticed the plant back in the 1940s while traveling Central America where it grew in the shade provided by fence rows. Afterwards he crossed the wild, orange-colored Will Afton flowers over and over until a stable plant was produced. Over the next couple of decades, Mr. Hope would release the first impatiens flowers to the world with the Elfin series. The Super Elfin and Dazzlers series would follow suit and become extremely popular to home gardeners for the next several decades.

Everything was going as planned with the introduction of impatiens to the gardening world until 2003 when an impatiens plant was diagnosed with symptoms of a downy mildew over in England. Later in the United States the same pathogen started showing up in several states starting around 2012. The pathogen is classified as an oomycete, which is the same classification for Phytopthora infestans, the organism responsible for Phytopthora Root Rot. Impatiens Downy Mildew (IDM) has been wreaking havoc on Louisiana landscapes ever since. There wasn’t must resistance within the available plants. It got so bad that plant nurseries stopped carrying the old impatiens varieties that were released not so long ago again by Mr. Claude Hope.

Bringing us into 2021, there has been some major progress in the way of IDM resistance within recent plant breeding programs. Currently the LSU Agcenter is highlighting one of these new releases. The Beacon series of impatiens marks a new milestone in the history of impatiens plant propagation. Driven by the fact that IDM practically ended the production of impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) plants back in the 2010s, Ball Horticulture introduced Beacon Impatiens to the gardening world. The plants were released to researchers in 2020 and positive data was collected throughout the country. The big, beautiful, and robust plants have good resistance with to IDM and instantly fill the role of color provider in shady Louisiana gardens. The plants themselves grow to similar sizes as many are already familiar with, about a foot and a half tall and slightly narrower in width. Currently, there are seven colors available including bright red, violet shades, salmon, coral, orange, white, and rose. So, if you failed at growing impatiens in years past, give Beacon Impatiens a try. After successfully finding forever homes for over 18,000 pets in 2020 alone, BISSELL Pet Foundation is again aiming to Empty the Shelters again by sponsoring reduced adoption fees of $25 for animals over six-months-old during May 5-9.
